To be abandoned is one thing. To have your heart ripped out while you are left broken on the cold, tiled floor is another.
Jessie is no stranger to loss, but when trust is broken and leaves a gaping hole of uncertainty, she no longer knows where deception ends and the truth begins. Caught up in a web of lies, Jessie needs to find out who she can trust, and fast.
When she is faced with an uncertain future and discovers she may not be who she thinks she is, never before has trust been more important.
Spending the last few years near the Queensland coast, Becca is rarely out of the sea or off the beach. Dragging her long board with her and her overworked Kindle Fire, Becca enjoys her three addictions: reading, surfing and ogling surfers, one of whom is her husband of ten years.
She can still be found regularly on the beach with her family. Becca tends to leave the surfing to her boys; she's far too busy immersed in her own writing or, of course, with her head still buried in a new read.
A mafia story with a twist and a sting in its tail!!!
As beautiful as this cover is, I may have overlooked it had I not caught the word "Mafia" in an email from the author! Mafia stories are always a plus for me but having read so many recently I was sceptical whether this could satisfy my ever demanding addiction to this genre.
After starting the book, I did flick back to see if it really was about mafia as it started out more like an emotional contemporary romance. As the pages turned, I was enjoying the story but still wondering "where are the Mafia?” Then, BAM, all of a sudden I was thrust into a battle over Jessie, the sweet female character who was trying to put her life back together after the death of her husband, and his prior rejection of her. Lucas, her friend and confidant is waiting in the wings to help her heal broken heart but Lucas isn't necessarily Jessie's knight in shining armour! Despite being a friend of both Jessie and her late husband, Lucas has clearly been waiting to claim Jessie as his own but when Jessie receives a cryptic message from beyond the grave, she starts to wonder who, if anyone, she can "Trust" in her life.
After visiting the location of her inheritance, Jessie's life takes an irreversible change in direction when she comes face to face with previously unknown family members. And that's where I receive my fix of Mafia. With both her Grandfather and Uncle pointing the finger at each other as being responsible for her mother's death, Jessie doesn't know who she can trust, especially when it transpires that Chris and Lucas have been lying to her for years.
I LOVED Becca Lee's writing style in this book. Talk about smooth and sexy! With each page turn, her words unforgiving drew me deeper into the book and its hidden secrets. I loved the characters, although I felt a need to rein in my need to proclaim my undying love for Lucas until I knew I could trust him!
My only frustration with this story was that I felt it was wrapped up far too quickly. It was almost like the author had decided enough was enough and just ended it in a few pages when I was ready for another 20%. Had the ending been drawn out more, this story would have been a solid 5 Stars for me. Despite this, I have absolutely no reservations about recommending the book or the author. I'm not sure if Becca Lee intends to continue this story in the future but I have to say, it's just too good to leave a powerful Mafia themed story as a standalone. That would be sacrilege!!! I definitely think readers would benefit from a prequel to see the build up to this book from Chris' perspective.

Once again, it looks like I’m in the minority here. With all the rave reviews this book garnered, I was really looking forward to some romance and intrigue. What I got was a ridiculous story and a TSTL heroine who became stupider the more she screwed her new love, Luca. Let’s start from the beginning. Right away Jessica’s husband, Chris, tells her he “doesn’t want her” and walks out the door only to die in an accident that same day. Fast forward six months. Jessica finds out that her so-called husband has been lying to her from the very beginning. Jessica’s best friend, Luca, has been there for her during her time of need but then she finds out that Luca too has been lying to her from the very beginning; she learns that she’s got an uncle and a grandfather both of whom may or may not be part of the Mafia and may or may not have killed her parents. Jessica feels betrayed and so she should. However, after some “space” of a few days, she accepts everything as is regardless of who’s lying to her. Gone are the feelings of betrayal only to be replaced with absolute love for Luca (who’s been in love with her from the day they met). I’m sorry, but it’s hard to accept that a woman would be okay with everything she has just found out, especially all the lies spewed her way since she first met Chris and Luca. Instead, everything is all good. She and Luca have fallen in love and she can’t get enough of him and with every screw blindly accepts Luca for who he is because he’s so sexy, has a beautiful body, gorgeous ass and makes her come so often to the point of exhaustion. She accepts everything, she gets engaged and lives happily ever after. Yes, I know it’s fiction but come on, let’s make it at least somewhat realistic. It’s unbelievable how naïve Jessica really is. When Luca pulls out a gun out comes the shock and then the excitement as to how much Luca loves her and wants to protect her. As far as Luca is concerned, everything about him is perfect to her even with all his lies. Sorry people, but I honestly can’t take TSTL heroines. As for the story itself, even though so much took place within a couple of hundred pages, it only hit the surface, none of it having any depth. Even the ending and what took place was so cliché and in a blink of an eye it was over. Honestly, there was never anything to sink your teeth into which is too bad as this novel had a lot of potential. At the end of the day I can only give it one star.

Trust is beautifully compelling and intensely thrilling story that will test the boundaries of your heart, the strength of your soul, and the mettle you are made from. Nothing is off limits or out of the reach of this truly marvelous and breathtaking journey of some of the most brilliantly outstanding characters. You will run the full gamut of human emotions throughout these pages, and you won’t recognize your own heart at the end. This story will steal your breath away and capture your soul without a second thought.
Jessie is proud of how far she can come with her life. She had a rough start, but she fought long and hard to get her life to where it is right now. She is mostly happy with where her life is at this point. She couldn’t love her best friend Luca anymore if she tried, but recent circumstances have her questioning where her future is headed. When she is dealt a heartbreaking twist of fate, its Luca that offers her a strong shoulder to lean on, a no-nonsense push back into the land of the living, and a fiercely devoted friendship that only exists in dreams. Will Fate bring Jessie a future of darkness and despair, or will it instead offer her an olive branch of hope and promise if she only has the courage to reach out and take it?
I have only come across a few books that could literally be labeled in my heart and mind as perfect. This is one such story with no doubt whatsoever. It offers an ideal blend of dark mystery, captivating romance, breathless thrills, and a flawless hope that hopelessly captivated me completely and left me in a delightful state of bliss and awe. The characters were wondrously extraordinary and utterly flawless, and they effortlessly make a forever home in my heart. I fell irrevocably in love with Jessie and Luca through their fantastic journey. I never had second thoughts about my part of this adventure, and I was sadly disappointed whenever the story came an end. I could read about their story for the rest of my life and never grow tired of it.
There is no doubt in my mind that Becca Lee is a true master of the written word and has a superb talent in touching your heart and melting your defenses. Her world is carefully fashioned with an outstanding level of imagination and precision that few authors possess. The privilege of experiencing such a story is a gift like no other. I challenge you to discover this spectacular author and bask in her genius.
I don’t want you. The words had been thrown out there; they couldn’t be taken back especially when spewed by your husband. Heartbreak was nothing new but this … was it too much? Chris should have been more comforting, he should have wanted to be with her more. Shattered … that’s how Jessie felt; broken beyond repair. Trust was a valuable thing .. and it had been destroyed.
Luca would protect her. He was one of her oldest friends. But maybe Jessie isn’t who she thought she was. Maybe she has been kidding herself. Lies are all around her. Who can she trust? Anyone? Having yourself torn to pieces as much as this in that short span of time would throw anyone into a tailspin.
Trust is an emotionally charged story with a gamut of anything you desire to find on the pages. There is so much to be learned through this story. Take a piece of it and hold onto it. Whichever part stirs your deepest emotions make sure you put it in a safe place. Keep yourself open and feel the heartbreak and joy through these fantastically written characters. Jessie and Luca are ones to remember.
Becca Lee is a new author to me and she has done a brilliant job of reeling me in as a fan. What a journey; a beautiful gut wrenching journey. Click this one up friends. It’s a keeper.
I was provided an ARC for an honest review. Review to post to Ramblings From Beneath The Sheets.
Nobody has a perfect life but you do what you have to for your happy ending. Jessie is no stranger to pain but she is moving past it and trying to fix her relationship with her husband. He on the other hand seems to be pulling away. Then her worst nightmare comes true and she can't get the final words out of her head "I DON'T WANT YOU". Thrown into a life she never expected Jessie struggles to find out who she really is. Her past is a lie and she needs to overcome it to find a future. Can she trust anyone? What would you do if you found out everything has been one lie after another? This book was beautifully written. I was immediately drawn in by the cover and was not disappointed. The plot was original and had me second guessing everything. I love when an author has so many twist that you can't figure out the ending. This was the first book I have read by Becca Lee and it will not be the last.
OMG! This book has totally had me at "I don't want you". Reading the synopsis, One would never know that that Mafia was involved. The first part of the book broke my heart. I really felt Jessie's confusion and heart breaking. When the words words "trust no one" came, I was completely intrigued and dived into the book!
I love a good mafia book! and Luca is one big strong and protective guy I would love to have on my side. One can really feel his love for Jessie, to do anything, to stand by her side, to protect her, to LOVE her. This book brings so much emotions! Love, tears, suspense, drama and the twist! I wish there were more subplots from the Zio and Dedushka. Maybe in another story about them? All I want is more! More Luca, More Jessie. More from this family.
I was gifted this book for an honest review and this is my first book from Becca Lee. It was beautifully written and seeing how much I love, it, I will definitely check out her others books!
I grabbed a freebie of this book for an honest review. An Australian author that I hadn't heard of before and wow what a story she wove. I love that the book read like a friend talking to me, typical Australian expressions and not Americanized. It was quite an emotional ride that kept me glued to my kindle. I got down to 5 minutes to go and thought no way the action is unfolding, how will it end. There was that moment that I thought OMG I didn't see that coming followed by another unexpected event. I loved the characters and their development, love and despair then love again. "Don't trust anyone" was the catchphrase so you are left wondering what's truth and what's lies. The author wrapped up the ending neatly...ok really I wanted more. The story was bloody brilliant and I'll certainly be looking for more from Becca.
This book is a great read. Especially when the heart aches and seeks for love. I enjoyed watching Jessie and Luca's story unfold. Even when life turns bitter something sweet can be found.
I loved the twist and turns this story took. Every time I think I had a handle on what was going on and new twist came along. Keeping me on my feet and adding more mystery to Jessie's life. But what made this story great was that she was able to connect with her soul mate regardless of the obstacle that had been thrown their way. Life isn't always easy but having someone you trust by your side can make it a bit smoother.
The writer did a great job with the words and the flow is the storyline. She also leaves you wanting more, but enough to allow the imagination to flow.
This is an author I haven't read before, and I really enjoyed this story.
I can empathise with the main character, Jessie, as I too have gone through the agony of being told you aren't wanted by the man who is supposed to love you. Jessie finds herself being helped through the aftermath by Luca, a hot Italian male. He 'helps' her by taking her away from her life for a bit of a break.
But this break leads to her whole world being turned upside down. What she discovers throws her entire life into turmoil, and leads to more than one 'oh my god' moment.
A great read for those who enjoy a bit of mystery in their stories.
I was gifted an ARC of this book from the author. I was on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. It was full of surprises and twists at every turn. Becca Lee tells a thrilling tale that involves loss, love and heartbreak with characters that you might love or hate or love to hate. It has an interesting plot, suspense and some hot, sexy scenes! You will not be disappointed!! Another five star hit from Becca!!!
Wow wow wow!! This book has everything. I was hooked right from the beginning. The plot is original and had me on the edge of my seat the whole way through until the EXPLOSIVE ending. Well written and well worded, I was blown away with just how talented this writer is. This is the first of Becca's books I have read, and it certainly won't be the last. I feel privileged enough to read a copy for an honest review!
I received this for an honest review.. In having read this authors books before I knew i would love it!!!
I have to say to see this author spread her wings with this one was just beautiful!! I found myself pulled right into this story and I have to say I just loved it!!! This book will pull out almost every emotion you have and have you rooting for the characters!!!
Trust , was a great simple suspenseful read. I didn't know what was going to happen next. I really enjoyed characters, I enjoyed the world Becca created. I would rate this 3.5-4 stars. I loved Luca, and there friendship. I'm not sure what else to write with out giving it all away. But would totally recommend for a easy cute weekend read.
What do you do when you discover that your entire life has been a lie? Jessie first thought her broken heart was devastating, but she is about to be faced with far more. I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed this book, and I look so forward to the next step into Jessie's world with Luca.
Wow wow wow what a book!! I absolutely loved Jessie! This book will grip you from the beginning! I had to finish this book to know what happened!! I want more! This book was an awesome read!! 5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The cover drew me in with the stunning picture. Twist and turns throughout the book. My eyebrows were raised for how she diverted and dodged some of what came at her but a good read all together.
Jessie was just living her life with her husband until one-day he changed his mind and didn't want her anymore. He left...she was left broken and very depressed. At the will reading she finds out a lot more than she couldn't ever imagine.
Luca was her best friend. He was always there for her and made her feel loved. He is something more than just her friend? Will these lies do something to their friendship? Will Jessie begin to trust Luca? This book was so full of jam packed lies, love and confusion! I'm still confused and have questions that were not answered. Will there be another book to explain these? I hope so cause two mafia family's and a girl who just figured this all out and what happen to the parents? Who really did the deed? It was a great book I hope for more in this story. 4.5 stars.
