I couldn't put this book down. Erica Bauermeister's Sharp as Ink grabbed me on page one and didn't loosen its grip until the final line. Jayne looks straight at you and starts talking, and before you know it you're tangled up in her version of events, wondering how much to trust her and reading faster anyway. That's the trick of it. Bauermeister knows the publishing world from the inside out, and it shows in every detail, but what really got me was Jayne herself. She's smart, a little vain, and prone to the same small, human screwups the rest of us make, which is exactly why I believed every word she said, right up until I didn't. The plot never lets up. Just when you think you've got a handle on where things are headed, the ground shifts again, all the way to an ending that actually earns its twists. I read this in one sitting and wanted to start over immediately to catch what I missed the first time.
