Hooked On You: A Small Town Romance

Rate this book
Hooked On You is a slow burn romance and book two in the Aelros Bay series. Pick it up for a gruff fisherman carrying the weight of old grief, a determined outsider restoring a crumbling Scottish estate, the slowest burning attraction you’ll ever get, and a town that refuses to let either of them stay lonely. Return to the bay for the rugged Isle of Skye setting and stay for the heartwarming romance between Callum and Charlotte as they navigate family wounds, unexpected feelings, life by the sea, and the kind of love that finally feels like coming home.

---

Charlotte Davis
After getting a letter from a grandmother I didn’t know existed, I moved halfway around the world for a fresh start. Aelros Bay is exactly what I needed. A new place, a new project, a new path. I just wanted to restore a building to its former self and bring it back to life.
Love wasn’t on my to do list.
Then I met Callum MacLeod.
Quiet, stubborn, and impossible to ignore, he watches me like I’m a disruption to the life he’s carefully built. As if wanting me is going to completely unravel him.
But beneath the stormy silences and guarded looks is a man carrying more grief than anyone realises.

Callum MacLeod
After losing my father, I built my life around two the sea and staying unattached. It was easier that way. Safer.
I was as happy as I could be with my town, my family, my business. Then Charlotte Davis arrived in Aelros Bay. She’s stubborn, independent, and rebuilding the old estate overlooking the bay with her bare hands. I told myself it was casual. Temporary. Someone I could walk away from before she becomes a distraction.
I was wrong.
It starts with me defending her at the town meeting and turns into me making decisions I never expected to make just to be closer to her.
Somewhere between the storms and the stolen moments, she becomes the one thing I feel like I want to fight for.

I loved this one! Loved delving back into the Aelyros Bay location that Olivia developed in Book 1 with Isla and Lachlan!

However I really liked the dynamic between Charlotte and Callum as well!

Another lovely book from Olivia (and I'll totes re-read this when it releases hahah) 🖤🩵

* 3.5 - rounded up to 4 for goodreads *

Who doesn’t love the idea of a big burly Scotsman who has a love for the sea? I had just returned from a trip to Skye and so this book was great timing to get a real feel for the sea air and small town Scottish living.

Hooked On You is the second in the Aerlos Bay book range by Olivia Fenwick. I haven’t read the previous one and can easily say that it works as a standalone book. There was a slight nod to what I imagine was the first book but enough that I didn’t feel I was missing anything obvious.

Hooked On You is the small town romance between Charlotte, an Australian who inherits a large mansion house out of the blue from a grandmother she never knew about and Callum, part of local “royalty” family, the MacLeod’s. Attraction at first sight turns into a slow burn, full of angst and hateful moments that eventually turns into love. Both suffer with emotional baggage but will they get over this and help one another?

While it is a slow burn, it does feel like at one point, the insta love ramps up a bit. Based across several months, there is a try to make this feel slow and full of tension but it feels quite quick. Maybe it’s because there’s a little less chapters than some books and therefore this gives a sense of being sped up. However, the tension between the two of them is palpable. Written from both points of view, we get crossovers from each of them on different events and their view and feelings for these. Usually, a lot of writers don’t do this, they just move onto the next step in the story but I did appreciate being able to see more of both sides of the story.

Callum is a very hot book boyfriend. He is big, rugged, very Scottish and, unlike other takes on Scottish romances, this time, we have a fisherman. There’s no kilt moment (which is a little bit of a shame) but there’s plenty of links to Scotland for us to have the burly Scots stereotype a little. As someone who reads a lot of Scottish romance, it was actually quite nice to have a book that didn’t feel it needed to have any of the quintessential “Scottish” elements in it and we relied on the language and the descriptions.

The book is open door and a little explicit and these moments certainly are very sexy and make you hot under the collar. There’s not a lot of it but enough to spice it up a bit and is balanced really well with how we get to see Callum warm up, grow and fall for Charlotte. The longing starts with Charlotte but when Callum begins to give in to his feelings, we get this wonderful, sweet and caring manly man that every girl dreams of.

Hooked On You is a different Scottish Romance, with a sexy fisherman main man, making you wish for the seaside and to ride his boat.

I absolutely adored this story! It was such a wholesome, comforting read and exactly the cozy escape I was looking for. ❤️

I could easily be Charlotte in another life! Inheriting a huge house in a small Scottish town, deciding to renovate it into a little hotel, and falling for a brooding Scottish sea captain? Sign me up! 😂
There’s just something magical about a cozy Scottish romance, especially with the rainy weather woven throughout the story. It makes you want to curl up in bed with a blanket, a hot drink, and read all day.
Charlotte and Callum’s relationship had the perfect balance of tension, passion, vulnerability and character development. Callum is such a grumpy gentleman—and I mean that in the absolute best way! Charlotte is stubborn, funny and wonderfully herself, and together their banter had me giggling more than once. Their back-and-forth digs and undeniable chemistry were so much fun to read.
I especially loved the balance between the light-hearted moments and the emotional ones. The story explores vulnerability, second chances, and finding where you truly belong, making the romance feel earned rather than rushed.
While a few plot points were predictable, it never took away from my enjoyment of the story. Once again, the Olivia has managed to capture both the beauty and complexity of falling in love while creating characters who feel genuine and memorable.
A gorgeous, cozy Scottish romance filled with rainy days, banter, heart, second chances and a grumpy sea captain. What more could you ask for? 💕📚

ARC Review!
4.25⭐️

Charlotte is on a mission to start fresh and rebuild her life in Scotland after inheriting a property from a grandmother she never knew. She sets out to restore the historic property and renovate it into a boutique hotel. She expected a lot of things, but Callum the broody Scottish sea captain wasn’t one of them. Callum is still struggling with the loss of his father who he never properly grieved and isn’t open to a relationship and letting in anyone new, but he can’t deny his pull to Charlotte, the beautiful woman from Australia who stumbled into his local bar and his life.

As someone who lives in Massachusetts that was invaded by the Scots during the World Cup, I immediately found myself wanting to read a Scottish romance, and this one did not disappoint!

I absolutely loved the small town setting in Scotland, all the details about the hotel renovations, the found family and the character growth of the two main characters. Callum is broody and not good at expressing his feelings, but the way he stood up for Charlotte and the way he shows his feelings through his actions such as helping to renovate the hotel and refusing pay made him swoonworthy. 😍

This was my first book by this author and I’m definitely interested in going back and reading the first book in the series and the next book when it’s released!

A sweet, feel-good small-town romance with plenty of heart.

Hooked on You is the kind of romance that's easy to sink into. The small-town setting feels warm and welcoming, the chemistry between the main characters develops naturally - love me a broody, bearded Scottish MMC. The side charcters add plenty of charm without overshadowing the romance - Isla and Ewan I'm looking at you two.

I especially enjoyed the balance between the light-hearted moments and the emotional ones. The story explores vulnerability, second chances, and finding where you truly belong, making the romance feel earned rather than rushed. While a few plot points were predictable, that never took away from the overall enjoyment—it was exactly the comforting escape I was looking for.

If you're a fan of cozy contemporary romances with lovable characters, a close-knit community, and a satisfying happily-ever-after, this is definitely worth picking up. It left me smiling, feeling all warm and fussy and wanting to read more from Olivia.

Thank you for me eARC

ARC Review ~

This story was everything I didn’t know that I needed to read right now.

What do you mean he went out to rescue her from herself but lied about it?
What do you mean he called her a local?
What do you mean he has sexy forearms and she ‘Jesus Christ’s’ at them because they’re so hot!

Callum is a sexy, Scottish Captain, carrying the grief of his father dying in his arms.
Charlotte is a super capable Aussie hotel renovator, determined to breathe new life into the run-down hotel she inherited from an estranged grandmother.

The chemistry between them has the words melting off the page. That hook up 🚗 The banter, the yearning, and the care between them. Fighting what they both feel, but determined to stay casual. Hot.

The cast of side characters were perfect as well. They complemented the story in so many ways, and I’m looking forward to going back and reading book one, and for the release of the third book.

This love story was written with such tenderness, warmth, and humour. I feel privileged to have read it.

ARC REVIEW:

Thank you to the author for the advance reader copy. It was a privilege to be one of the first to read this book.

I also got to read this while I’m currently in Scotland, touring the country, so it made it extra special and it was like I was actually there. Olivia’s writing style is immersive, characters are so well written, you actually feel like they are friends and family in real life.

Charlotte (FMC), moves all the way from Australia to Scotland after she inherited her grandmother’s place and decides to turn it into a hotel. She meets the grumpy Callum (MMC) who is a fisherman and it gives off enemy to lover vibes, even though they are not really enemies.

The story was so engrossing that I finished it in one day. I highly recommend this read and I’m putting it in my “I will read this again” pile, I loved it so much ☺️

Thanks so much for the ARC @oliviafenwickauthor

This is the second in the Aelros Bay series, with this book focused on Macleod brother Callum, a broody sea captain who is struggling with the loss of his dad. Callum’s world is tilted on its axis with the arrival of Charlotte, who has unexpectedly inherited a dilapidated guesthouse from a grandmother she never knew existed.

The slow burn between Callum and Charlotte is delicious. The last thing either is expecting in their lives right now is a romantic relationship, especially when both have unresolved family trauma and emotional healing to manage, but the chemistry between them is undeniable, as is the yearning.

This book absolutely transported me to Scotland. I loved seeing Charlotte travel to the other side of the world to build a new life for herself and the way she embraced all the challenges of this. I also loved how important the theme of family is, both for Callum and Charlotte, and both biological and found family.

If you enjoy a slow burn, small town romance with some spice, this one is for you, especially if you also have a thing for broody Scotsmen who yearn.

Set in Scotland, Callum is a fisherman who focuses on his job and his family. He does not make connections. Enter in Charlotte, from Australia, she inherited her grandmother's house and wants to turn it into a hotel. Initially it seems like they do not like each other, but it boils over one night, but they agree to keep it casual. Then months go by and they can't stop thinking about each other.

I really liked this book. The tension, passion, conflict, and character development was well done. I thought the author handled his grief and also panic attacks well. I was a little unsatisfied with the conflict with her parents, but otherwise enjoyed the book. Definitely would love to visit a small town in Scotland just like this! Need to go back and read book 1.

Callum my mannnnn! I am the one hooked please and thank you.

I adored this story. It was so so wholesome. I could be charlotte in another life hands down. Finding out I’ve inherited a huge house in a small Scottish town that I’m going to renovate into a small hotel while falling for a brooding Scottish sea captain … life couldn’t get any better!

I am a huge fan of Olivia’s writing and this arc did not disappoint. From the very first page I was transported to Scotland and felt like I was a part of every single moment of the characters lives.

Talk about a slow burn! So worth it though. Callum is such a grumpy gentleman, I mean that in the best way. Charlotte is stubborn and funny. Together they had me giggling through this book with their back and forth digs and banter.
I enjoyed the way this book was written. The small town environment, the descriptive scenery and I really enjoyed the side characters throughout. There were even some Australian terms used which I found fun and relatable.
This is the first Olivia Fenwick book that I have read and I am looking forward to reading more.

Olivia you have absolutely blown me away. You have truly captivated the beauty of Scotland and made us all fall in love with a grumpy fisherman.
The relationship between the two MC was full of suspense but didn’t take away from the other storylines and relationships forming between the FMC and those around her. You have managed once again to show both the beauty and complexity of falling in love.

I received this an Arc directly from the author.

I love a cozy Scottish romance. Something about the rainy weather written into this story, just makes you want to stay in bed all day, and read. Charlotte and Callum story had just the right amount of tension, passion, and personality development of the characters. I wish we got a few more chapters from Callum’s POV, but over all this was a great sequel to Lachlan’s book. Excited for the third bother to get his time in the rain.

4/5 ⭐️ ARC

Callum and Charlotte are so cute, it’s obvious from the beginning that they will be pillars of strength for one another no matter how hard they try to fight it.

Watching the hotel come together was wonderful and a nice piece of this story, I think the family fight, while necessary was a bit meh to the story, I think we could have had it not be there and still have the story of the little Scottish town be enough.

Overall a great story about love conquering all in the end.

ARC review - a fabulous follow up to Anchored to You. Loved Charlotte and Callum and how they navigated their relationship. I truly felt the grief of Callum - the loss of a parent hits particularly hard. Olivia’s writing style takes you through a roller coaster of emotions to the very end. You are transported to Scotland - I can imagine myself walking through Aelros Bay.

Loved this book. Charlotte and Callum both had to overcome personal issues before they could move on with each other. It was enjoyable reading how they did that. Now I’m off to find a boutique hotel to renovate 😉🤭

Do I need to say anything else but Broody Scottish Captain!
From the very beginning of this book I was hooked. Callum is the perfect brooding captain of a fishing boat. He has ghosts that haunt him and he tries to hide them from his family who mean everything to him.
Charlotte arrives in less than ideal circumstances and is just trying to be a part of this town that loved her grandmother so much.
Watching both Callum and Charlotte try to overcome their differences and realise they want the same thing is beautiful.
I never want to leave Aelros Bay.
