I loved the first book; this one needs work
I really loved the first book and couldn’t wait for this second one. However; the plot was choppy and disconnected. There were a lot of words and NOTHING really happened. Max was still rejecting her inner “demon,” not embracing her inner power. The dragon was still an as*hole, always suspicious. No real development in the relationships with the other men until the very end. Max was never really trained. There were silly details like her rolling around on skates. It just fell flat. I skimmed through the last 30%. I probably will read the next one in hope it gets better, but we’ll see if it’s a DNF.

ugh: skate shoes
The story is interesting yet the awful writing and choices can get in the way. Seriously: skate shoes. This might be the single worst idea in a book set in a post apocalypse. It's not whimsical - it's stupid. An editor is desperately needed. There is so much potential and yet very little of it is delivered.

I was disappointed by this. Book 1 was a five star read for me. I was lucky to finish this one. It dragged. It’s not so much a slow burn as a nothing is really happening situation. By the time one of the “fires” lit, the book was already over 80% over and I didn’t really care anymore. Slow burn works when there’s tension. I don’t feel the tension with any of the male characters except for the dragon. And that’s probably only because they still hate each other. 🙄
Also, I thought this was going to be a duet and at the rate it’s going, it’ll be six books before we ever get to the reverse harem that’s being dangled in front of us. Meh. Might DNF the series at this point. 😕
Also, why not just talk to the demon? Maybe we could solve this cliff hanger problem with a quick convo.

I wish skate shoes was the worst part
I tried. I really tried. I do not like a thing about this fmc, the flat af mmcs, or the writing. I want to try not to be too harsh and just get to the point but, we’ll see how well that goes.
The plot was intriguing enough in the first book that I finished it and kept going, but she lost me with this one. Here’s why, in no particular order:
(Mild spoilers)
-I cannot for the life of me figure out how much time has truly passed from the beginning of bk 1 to now. There’s tons of references to weeks and months passing but they’re inconsistent. For example: Drakken at some point references his dragon having wanted Max gone for months before he became a lovesick pup, but the two events that lead to that happening happened within her first month with them (I’m almost certain it was less than 2 weeks, but I could be wrong because again, inconsistencies.
-This sorta ties to the above- there is so much going on and yet it feels like nothing ever actually happens. Feelings and developments that would usually take time, even considering fate mates or whatever (I hear that’s in this book, but tbh, I ended up skipping many chapters to get to the end so I can’t confirm) and reasonable time skips, feel rushed. Which can probably be attributed in part to the lack of clear time telling. Ex: Max comes back from her deployment with a clearly elevated status and what seems like just the next day or so, her (apparently) BFF says something about how she feels like they’re drifting apart. They have had all but maybe a handful of scenes together. Nothing in that, or any of Max’s relationships track.
-Skate shoes. Why does a wolf shifter need skate shoes to get around? How does that even begin to match his Princely status? I get he’s the lighthearted goofball, but it’s not even acknowledged. & why would you wear them inside a forge? Not exactly the spot to be in on wheels.
-Drakken’s a hole only act got tired in bk 1. While I don’t vibe with the insta-devotion the others give, Drakken never lets a single inkling of his pull to her show so it’s just d**khead 24/7/365. I couldn’t find an ounce of ‘tension’ to enjoy.
-There’s no actual character development for anybody.
-The world layout reads as crazy lazy. There’s an illustration of a map that lays out all the territories but compare it to the bits you get here and there of these locations being compared to modern day places (New Mexico, Houston, etc) and it just doesn’t track. To be specific, the Scarred Wastes are roughly where NM would be but just below that is the Haven, which somehow houses a palace where Houston used to be. Tell me how that works.
-The writing is honestly much too repetitive and like 90% fluff and filler.
-I get the sense from the authors note that this will likely be 4 books long, which is 3 books too many considering how much this story actually moves.
There’s more but I’ve run out of steam. It’s not terrible, but it’s not great either. This was hard to get through. I read over 100+ books a year so if I’m struggling to get through one, that really tells me something. I read a lot of the reviews for each rating level and am blown away by the positive responses. But also, underwhelmed by the less than favorable ones. So maybe it’s just me. See for yourself, I guess.

Book two and somehow I am still happily signing up for the chaos.
I will admit there were a few moments where I had to pause and give the book a little side-eye. The amount of “she’s mine” energy happening in this story is impressive. The alpha male population is strong, and apparently the solution to every emotional crisis is intense protectiveness, possessiveness, and making sure everyone knows exactly who she belongs to. 😂
That said… did I keep reading? Absolutely.
Because this book is just fun.
This is the kind of fantasy that knows exactly what it wants to be and commits to it. The battles, the tension, the romance, the angst—it all keeps moving. There was never that feeling of waiting for something to happen. Something was always happening, and I was more than happy to go along for the ride.
I’m also still trying to solve the mystery of her height. At this point, I need an official character chart because my brain cannot keep up. She is apparently taller than almost everyone, with only a few characters barely beating her by an inch. Which, honestly, I respect. Let the fantasy heroine be tall. 😂
But jokes aside, what makes this series work for me is that it’s an escape. It’s not trying to be a realistic representation of relationships or the real world—it’s a place to disappear into for a while. And sometimes that is exactly what you need.
Give me the dragons, the supernatural chaos, the impossible battles, the complicated relationships, and the ridiculous levels of tension. I’m here for it.
Book two kept me entertained, kept me turning pages, and definitely left me ready for the next installment.

Just so much..
Alright, FoolSilver did the exact same thing that ColdIron had where there’s just so much happening that it really starts to get disconnected. Like at one point your plot has too much plot haha.
Then sometimes a book has that one saying or detail that gets added to a book that maybe works or it doesn’t. “Skate shoes” is one example of where it doesn’t work. In a post apocalyptic world, this just feels very random. Which sure maybe the building is far enough away that Frost has to drive there so giving her mobility may help some independence. But then to wear them into classroom settings and functions just… I felt like it was a story about a middle schooler now. Not someone preparing for war and constantly trying to keep her head down and engage with Delia’s circle, for example. It’s similar to the randomness about a war against AI in book 1.
I don’t know. I’m going to see what happens in book 3 when it comes out because I have a lot of questions.

A non-stop, high-octane thrill ride! 🎢🔥

Prepare to have your bookmarks melted, because Foolsilver picks up exactly where Coldiron left off, and it is a non-stop, high-octane thrill ride! 🎢🔥 I read this entire book in one sitting, completely ignoring my sleep schedule because, honestly, who needs sleep when Max Morning (star🌟) has to save the world?
If you thought Book 1 set a high bar, Book 2 takes that bar, coats it in Coldiron, and uses it to bash in some beast skulls. ⚔️💀

She was born a slave, worked until she bled, lived in a constant state of starvation and dehydration, got thrown into a brutal war academy, found herself caught between three men, with a fourth who wants nothing more than to rip her apart... and now her sister has been taken by the Ruler of the Haven. To make matters worse, he's bound Max to him with a blood magic marriage contract that seals her fate to his.
Seriously... can this girl catch a break?
After everything they've survived, you'd think Drakken would give an inch and finally come to terms with his feelings. But no. Of course not. That stubborn dragon is determined to fight every ounce of attraction he has for her. He's constantly belittling her, provoking her, and trying to push her away. It's frustrating in the best way because the tension is chef's kiss, but I'm so ready for him to finally give in. At least his beast seems to be softening toward her.
Meanwhile, the Witch keeps unleashing her horde of mutants, and Max still refuses to embrace what may be her greatest strength—the creature inside her. I need to know more about this demon! If you're looking for answers in this installment, though, you'll probably leave a little disappointed. There were also a few scenes that felt repetitive, and I really wish we'd gotten more chapters from the guys' points of view.
Aelindor frustrated me a little once Lady What's-Her-Face showed up, but he still remains Max's quiet strength and the peace she desperately needs. Caspian is as loyal and loving as ever—I honestly don't think he knows how to be anything else. And poor Nikolai never wavers in his devotion to her, but it feels like he's slowly becoming a background character, which made me a little sad. Give me more of the guys' POVs!
This book definitely leaves you with more questions than answers, but I'm happy we won't have to wait too long for book three.
The series still gives me Fourth Wing, Quicksilver, and The Bonds That Tie vibes, but this installment also reminded me a bit of Her Vicious Beast by E.P. Bali.

Meg Xuemei X's FoolSilver left me with a strange feeling: so much happened, yet at the same time it felt like nothing really happened.
There are multiple plotlines and a lot of story being told, but very little feels like it meaningfully progresses. Some of the relationships between the characters develop, but many interactions and events seem to circle the same ideas without much payoff. By the end, I still had a lot of unanswered questions, and not in a way that made me eager for the next book.
One detail that continually pulled me out of the story was the skate shoes. In a post-apocalyptic world, I had a hard time accepting them as a practical mode of transportation; especially when they're described at one point as rollerblades. I kept wondering why the characters wouldn't use something more practical, like bicycles, if magical cars weren't available. Instead of feeling like an interesting worldbuilding choice, it became a recurring distraction.
Overall, FoolSilver had interesting ideas and plenty happening on the surface, but I never felt like the story itself truly moved forward. I finished the book feeling as though I'd spent a lot of time in the world without seeing enough meaningful progress in either the plot or the characters.
Will I continue on to book three? Surprisingly, yes. My curiosity gets the best of me every time, and I have an almost compulsive need to finish every series I start. I'm hoping the next book answers some of the lingering questions and delivers on the potential I can see in this world.

I seriously don't know how Meg Xuemei X keeps making this series better with every book. FoolSilver had me completely hooked from beginning to end, and I flew through it way faster than I expected.
The stakes felt so much higher in this one, and I loved seeing Max continue to grow into such a strong, determined heroine. No matter what gets thrown at her, she refuses to give up, and I admired her resilience even more in this book. The world keeps expanding, the danger never lets up, and I was constantly wondering what was going to happen next.
The relationships with the heirs were one of my favorite parts. The slow burn is still burning, but the chemistry, tension, and protective moments had me smiling every time they were on the page together. I also loved seeing the trust between them continue to develop.
There were so many twists that caught me completely off guard, especially toward the end. Just when I thought I knew where the story was going, Meg threw in another surprise that left me staring at the page. That ending was absolutely brutal, and now I have so many questions that I need answered.
If you love post-apocalyptic fantasy, why choose romance, powerful supernatural princes, nonstop action, and cliffhangers that leave you desperate for the next book, I definitely recommend picking this series up. October can't come soon enough!

Not bad. There were a lot of moments where certain ideas/concepts kept getting repeated, which was a little interesting. I do wish there was a little more development between Max and Drakken. There was mention of her power expanding and getting stronger, but besides the moment in the training yard and she jumped onto the Dragons back with Caspain, there wasn’t much demonstration of her growth. There was mention of her getting better with the ColdIron, but it’s sentient and does her bidding.
Also, there was a brief mention of FoolsSilver, when she shaped the cuffs for her closest circle. But, not much else after.
I also wish there was a chapter of her using the library to do some research on inner demons, or even trying to follow her lineage back. Then, they could’ve cut to the scene of Drakken coming in and finding her reading smut. Just, something that hinted about the twist that occurred at the end of the book. Which, wasn’t that shocking considering her last name isn’t that far off from her parentage last name.
I like that another heir relationship has been solidified, so now with the end of this book, it’ll be interesting to see how it plays out. Not a bad read! This genre is always a favorite of mine and I can’t wait to see what happens in the third book.

Aelindor at briefing, regarding coldiron: “What matters is that it’s sentient, and it answers to Cadet Max alone.”
Not true. I can’t remember who but someone else was able to manipulate coldiron in the first book. The coldiron responded to Max to a much greater degree and called the other a False Heir.
I know Max is focused on rescuing Missy but I’m over halfway through and there's been no mention of her remaining two companions who escaped with her from the mine. I would think they’d at least cross her mind occasionally.*
Does Max not know about fated mates? She seems so clueless about the attraction between her and the heirs.
It must be so depressing to be immortal and carry a torch for someone who doesn’t reciprocate your feelings. Do they ever get over it or just suffer forever?

If you like being told the same thing four different ways…
I was very much looking forward to this book. I had clearly forgotten the writing style of this author in the time it took for the second one to come out. Lots of repeating, rephrasing and similar scenes. How many war committees are we sitting in on? How many attacks? How many times are we going over descriptions of the males? Their house colors? Their scents and pulls? Takes almost 200 pages to get ONE intimate scene. You get ONE good kiss and ONE barely imagined scene.
As much as I love reading a series fully I can’t sit through another book of repeating the first 200 pages with similar battles and similar conversations about something we talked about 70 pages ago. I, too, had to read it for myself to be disappointed.

Screaming Into My Hand Right Now!
This one was SO good! I was enthralled from beginning to end. I knew Desta couldn’t be trusted from the very beginning. Nothing’s been confirmed yet, but I don’t like her character at all. There has to be something with Max’s gloves and Xander not actually touching her. I can’t believe I have to wait until Oct for the next book! But also it’s July and waiting until Oct isn’t too bad. I love Max so much and all the heirs. I’m glad there’s trust and a bond between at least Max and Aelindor. I hate when characters turn on each other because there’s miscommunication and/or mistrust. Overall, such a great series so far!

Man, what can I say. This was outstanding. I'm not happy that Google said this was a two book series and now I'm stuck waiting until October to read book three. The cliffhanger is freaking steep.
This book is so good that, even though I'm severely ADHD and dnf most books, this one I couldn't put down.
The charactes are well fleshed out. Youll love eachof them. The plot and storyline is supurb.
I have found a new favorite author. Truly remarkable writing. I'm impressed..

Can't wait for next book
When I started reading the first book in this series I thought it was going to be a duet so I waited for this book to come out to read the first one. Finish the first one and discover at the end that it's a 4 book series. Why you have to make me wait like that? I loved this book though. It's a complete package it has action, love, drama and humor. I'll keep saying it though Id really like to have more chapters from the guys POV. I love the female fmc and reading this from her POV but Id like some more of the guys thoughts on things too.

The ending saved it
I read book 1 and liked the storyline but there were definitely some room for improvement. Book 2 had a lot of repetitive parts like her height, her indifference to the heirs," being a 10"etc. I found myself feeling like I was reading the same thing but with different characters the whole time. There just wasn't enough forward movement. The ending gave it the boost it desperately needed. I felt like it finally gave me something to keep my attention. Hoping book three has less of the repetition. I can only read about how tall someone is so many times.

Did I enjoy this? Yes I did. But I am so annoyed that this book says “book 2 of 2” when you go to purchase or read in KU but at about 70% I realize there is absolutely no way this will be wrapped up by the end of this book. And I was right. Thankfully book 3 comes out in a few months but I definitely would have waited to read these had I known the series wasn’t finished. This is SO FRUSTRATING and I wish authors or Amazon or whoever would stop that nonsense. It’s happened to me several times this year

This book is velvet and coffee and honey and anguish and I am obsessed.
I am not typically a fan of Reverse Harems, as I’m more of a fated-mate type of gal, but here there is a bridge where the two tropes tangle thoughtfully, taking the best of each, and forming them into something new.
Make sure when you start this book that you have enough time to finish it in one sitting, because there’s no way you’ll put it down.

This book was way better than the first one but the world building is still throwing me off. It’s like a combination of every best selling fantasy book was put into a blender.
Also why did Aelindor give her rescue breaths when she was having a panic attack that was such a weird moment.
Otherwise I liked it, although I think Max needs more personality besides being stubborn and missing her sister. Her only real quirk is that she is obsessed with food from being a slave.

Unfortunately, this is where I exit this series.
I’ve never read a book where the book description basically covers all of the highlights. Since nothing different happened, it was kind of a spoiler. I expected the plot point of the Saint coming with the marriage contract to happen early enough that we would get a resolution, but no, it doesn’t happen until the very end.
Instead of that storyline being concluded (or even fully introduced), we got a decent amount of filler of Max being interested in all the heirs and feeling bad about it.

I really like Max, she's a really unique Fmc.
I like that she's tall, strong, and capable.

The plot is screaming at you in the last few chapters and the story is progressing quickly, I wish there was a little more time for the romance to flesh out a bit more but there’s a war happening I understand they don’t have a ton of time together lol

I ate this up
Max is coming into her own power and I am here for it.
I am very much looking forward to seeing how this series wraps up and I'm glad the wait isn't too long, I don't know what I'd do if I had to wait another year for the ending.
So much tension between Max and the heirs and it's delicious but frustrating she still doesn't think enough of herself to be worthy of them! I see a lot of grovelling in Drakken's future.

July 30, 2026This is one of the majority of RH series which fail at book 2. I honestly can’t even remember the last time one was readable. I blame the multi-book trend. There is enough interesting material in this story to write a solid standalone.. maybe a duet. It’s so frustrating to read fluff.
So I’ll probably wait until the series is finished and check the reviews for the last one before even considering this one.

Ugh! The suspense!
The book left on a cliffhanger. The worst fate imaginable. Just when Max was coming around to having a harem, I now have to wait months to know what happens! As frustrating as that is, wait I will. This just got very juicy and im eager to read how the heirs and Max solve their extremely convoluted problem.
