Superb book for people who want to learn to cook authentic dishes using real ingredients. The section in the back, which has pages and pages of pictures of ingredients is invaluable. The first time I embarked on these foods I took the book to an Asian grocery in a city 20 miles away where no one spoke English, and I was able to identify what I needed. That was over 30 years ago when it was VERY difficult to get things like lemon grass, which is now in every supermarket. The recipes remain delicious and the photos useful today. I consider this an absolute basic and a classic.
I grew up on this cookbook. I turn to it rarely, but always with great success. I am not a super complex cook, so I have to be careful to look at the recipe and make sure I have everything I need in the morning so I can pick up any of the more exotic stuff during the day, but it is always well worth it.
