I read most of this book during Hurricane Irma, and a 5 day long (and as of today, still counting)power outage, until my Kindle died. Then I ran out to the car and charged it up. Hurst is a good writer, her stories are interesting and the characters well done. This book wasn't quite as good as the Guestbook. The whole premise of the book just did not make sense to me. I don't know why a diagnosis of any disease, much less lupus, would cause someone to run away from a fabulous career and the man she loves. But I'm not Kyla, because that's precisely what she did. Her family secrets were nothing compared to some I've heard. That whole aspect of the story made me shake my head. There was nothing so bad that would end a romance. That being said, my favorite part of Hurst's Madrona Island series is the lovely setting of the Pacific Northwest. Hurst has a flair for the description of scenery and the food. The ending of this book kind of annoyed me too. The romance is sometimes just too much. Do people really talk like that to one another? Maybe I'm just not a romantic. I did enjoy the tiny bit of magical realism sprinkled into Kyla's family history and I'd definitely go to her little shop. I am looking forward to the next installment, I'm assuming it will be Jude's turn and we'll find out what Ryan's secrets are. I'm just hoping it isn't another chronic disease.

Sheesh! If I wanted a detailed description of a town, including colors of building, tablecloths, etc., and its inhabitants' hair, eyes, and shirt color, I would read a magazine devoted to such things! This piece of fiction had very little story, with a plot that keeps repeating itself before its predictable resolution.
To top it off, Ms Hurst has the classic problem of understanding the correct usage of pronouns, in particular, using 'you and I'. To wit: "It wasn't you and I." It should be, "It wasn't you and me." (Chapter 14) And, "I am still nervous about Luke and I sharing our everything, including my past." (Chapter 26)

In my opinion, writers should use correct English. I am appalled when I encounter poor construction, run-on sentences, and sloppy usage of pronouns. It is their choice to write a weak story, but correct English is a must if one calls herself or himself a writer.

I thought that the first book of the Madrona Island Trilogy, The Guest House, was better than Tea & Comfort. The atmosphere building was better as was the character development. In the first book, although Lily was coming out of an abusive relationship, she did grow a backbone and a business. She also developed some strong female friendships with fellow business owners Jude and Kyla. I was disappointed that the women were not portrayed as strong women in this book. The friendship is still there but not as prominent.

I think that this book can be read as a stand alone without the reader becoming confused. However, I think that the first book is the best book so far. I will read the third book to see how the author does with the last book in the trilogy.

This book was the very definition of 'cutesy' romance. While I enjoyed the setting - a little island called Madrona off the Washington state coast - I found the characters grating for the most part, and the conflict entirely too simple. It added up to be a fairly tedious, drawn out story where nothing much happens.

Back to the good bits, though. Kyla, a former NYC model, has moved to Madrona to open a tea shop called Tea & Comfort. There she lives a quaint, happy life - practicing reading tea leaves, concocting herbal remedies, soaps, and other various nicely-smelling things, and of course, serving and sipping tea. It sounds like an idyllic little life - especially as one of her best friends owns the island B&B, and the other owns the island cafe. Sweet, simple, and picture-perfect.

Her former love, Luke, finds his way to Madrona and buys a vineyard, planning to turn it into a booming winery. It's been years since he last saw Kyla - when she broke off their engagement and fled NYC without so much as an explanation or a real goodbye. Of course, when he finds her in Madrona, the reader knows what's going to happen. They'll rekindle their romance, questions long pondered will finally be answered. They'll live happily ever after.

Unfortunately, those 'questions' carry no real conflict. Kyla had been diagnosed with lupus soon after her engagement to Luke, and that diagnosis caused her to flee - afraid that he wouldn't love her now that she was sick, and dreading the ideal of saddling him with an ill wife. This, to me, is odd. If you're in love with someone enough to be planning a future together, why wouldn't you tell them about a diagnosis like this? Anyway, when Luke finally learns the truth, he seems to be as puzzled as I was that this was kept a secret. He appears to be thinking "Why would you run away because of that?" and here I was going, "RIGHT?". A silly, underdeveloped conflict, clearly.

Later, once they're reunited, the conflict strays to Luke's family and their concerns about Kyla. Then we learn that Kyla is once again afraid that Luke won't love her because she might never be able to have children. Both of these conflicts die pathetic deaths without even a hint of significant drama - everyone just gets over them. Overall, the story falls flat, and drags on to the final sugary-sweet pages, which made me feel a bit like I'd wasted good time reading this all the way through.

The dialogue was odd, too. Very old-fashioned and proper - to a comical degree, which is strange because it's a very contemporary novel. In conclusion, it was just an 'eh' book for me. A fine enough escape to a sweet setting, but not at all a case where I'll continue the series.

An nice read of love lost and love rediscovered in an enchanting setting, Madrona Island. While the setting may seem developed for the story, Andrea has done a nice job of structuring her story around a real island setting filled with wineries, funky little shops and close, supportive relationships. Can't wait for the next book in the series!

Tea & Comfort by Andrea Hurst is a quick & easy read that reminds the readers to believe in second chances and to give love a chance. Ms. Hurst has written a wonderful second installment in The Madrona Island series. I love the fact that Kyla has to face her past head on, not only in the love department, but in life in general. A person can't change who they are or where they are from, but they can embrace it, face it head on, and be the best possible person they can be. Tea & Comfort is the perfect title for this book because for Kyla to face her fears and her past she not only needs the love and support of friends, but she also needs the comfort of being in the arms of an old friend. This book is about believing in yourself, trusting the people closest to you and giving yourself and others a second chance. It is wonderfully written and is a book that is very hard to put down. I can't wait for the third book of the series.

Two people meet, fall in love desperately and then something tragic happens and they are separated.
Fate has it that they meet again. One has already made herself a new life on an island where she finds true friends and an occupation she had always dreamed of having.
The story is absorbing as we see what difficulties the couple has in returning to their passionate love story. My only disappointment was that the book leaves so many questions up in the air and to follow up the story I am compelled to read the sequel.

Illogical and whiny heroine

Seriously, I had to skim last third of book because heroine was whining about having lupus and not being able to trust her fiance. Of course, fiance did nothing wrong and she's the one who ran off and hid for 2 years. UGH increasingly annoying. He should have dumped her as s instead of begging her to marry him.

Loved it!

I loved The Guestbook and I loved this book. The ending was a little rushed with a few errors but it still was a charming and fun read!

This story had potential but the couple got together far too quickly and the rest of the story felt like fluff or filler. Should have been a novella.

Yawn Inducing

Nothing happened in Andrea Hurst’s “Tea and Comfort.” Absolutely nothing. The mundanity brought tears to my eyes. I finally threw in the towel at around 50% (don’t even ask me how I got that far) when the author started describing, in minute detail, everything about a Christmas parade. I’m not that into parades in real life, so having to read about one in detail was yawn inspiring, to say the least.

Kyla (previously known as Darcy), was a model in New York City with a successful career and super hot boyfriend (Luke). One day, she abruptly drops off the face of the earth with nary an explanation to anyone, including the alleged love of her life. When we catch up with her, she’s Kyla, the purveyor of a tea shop in Washington state, where she spends her days drinking tea and sprinkling lavender on just about everything. Luke shows up after buying a nearby winery and they get back together after spending a few pages catching up. Apparently Luke’s brother was instrumental to Kyla’s initial disappearance.

There’s no trust here, because as soon as the evil brother opens his mouth, Kyla takes off. This happens at least twice. If someone was the love of my life, I’d at least talk to him before dumping his ass, but that’s just me, so meh. Anyway, majorly lost interest and skimmed the rest. Nothing else happened.

I’m so mad I got past the 50% mark. It was like eating a plateful of high calorie food that I didn’t even enjoy. What a waste of calories. What a waste of brain cells. This was a one star read for me. I want my life back.

I finished this lovely book a few days ago, and really enjoyed it. A good comfort read for me and even though I read the wrong book first, that's ok. I'll finish the rest them. I really liked this authors writing, so I'll be watching for any new ones coming out.

E-Reader. Fiction Book

Kyla Nolan is her real name.  Lived in New York City, as a famous model, Darcy Devereux.  She engaged to get married, but she received life changing news, so ran away.  She was to be married to Alexander Luke Braford, II.

Had met an artist who lived on small island, Madrona Island.  She went onto the internet to find information about this island.  And she moved there changing her name to Kyla Nolan.

She opened a small tea shop, with cozy home behind the tea shop.  Her mother & grandmother were Irish Healers, using fresh herbs, honey, lavender & other items.  Which she sold to customers, home made scented candles & many different types tea leaves.

When The Madrona Bed & Breakfast had it's grand opening she never she thought to see the man she still loved, Luke Bradford. He only stayed at the B&B for a short time.

What Kyla didn't know he bought the local vineyards.  Which the previous owners retired & left most of what owned.  Including a two story log house.

There are to many characters in this book to list.  But there is love in this book.

I hope you will enjoy this book as much as I did!

I had forgotten about this series....I read the first book in the series and loved it but the second book wasn't out yet and I just forgot to check back.  Flash forward a few years, for some reason I decided to check Amazon and low and behold not only was the second book out, but the third as well.

This second book, Tea and Comfort, is Kayla and Luke's story. The setting is the same as the first book, Madrona Island, off the coast of Washington state. Some of the same characters from the first book make an appearance in the second book as well, so that makes it nice.

I devoured the book in a day and am staring on the third book, Island Thyme Cafe, today. I have to find out what happens to Jude and Ryan.

This book is what I consider a cozy read. I love the characters and imagine myself as a neighbor in their charming island town. Ms. Hurst paints beautiful mind pictures for me with her detailed descriptions. I can close my eyes and picture the Tea & Comfort shop owned by Kayla. I can actually smell the teas and lavender in the air. It sounds like a place I'd love to visit.

The book really wasn't bad; the characters just drove me nuts.
The book opens with a prologue about famous model Darcy Devereaux and her trust fund boyfriend, Luke. They've had a whirlwind romance and he proposes to her after a few weeks of dating.
Then Darcy gets a phone call from her doctor, telling her that she has lupus.
She leaves without a word and Luke doesn't see her for another two years.
Luke's hurt at the way Darcy (now going by her real name, Kyla) left, and he doesn't understand it, but he still loves her as much as ever. Kyla loves Luke but is scared of what he'll think if she reveals her secrets to him.
It takes forever for Kyla's secrets to be revealed, and they aren't that big of a deal; definitely not worth running away for. The characters were not very realistic. There was almost no conflict; everyone is sugary sweet and perfect. Luke does not even remotely read as someone who grew up with the type of money and upbringing that he supposedly had. I was just disappointed in pretty much all of the characters.

Honestly this book is built upon a secret that is so devastating it leads to the disappearance of a girl just 2 days after accepting a marriage proposol. When they of course meet up after an interval of two years this "secret" has to come out slowly after much preparation and with great worries attached as to how it will be received. What is this big dreadful life changing thing - well don't hold your breath for something awful is all I have to say. The whole book is built upon something that should have taken no thought to tell between two people supposedly in love. It is simply one ingredient alongside a massive overdose of saccharine sweetness and an injection of family and friends. It was at least free on KU but not a series i will be rushing to read more of

I liked this book, although if Kyla and Luke had been honest with each other from the beginning, their story would have begun earlier. But then I suppose there wouldn’t have been much of a story to tell. She ran away from Luke and her life as a model when she was diagnosed with lupus. She found Madrona Island and opened a shop, Tea and Comfort. Eventually, she figured out what helped heal her, and she found wonderful friends. When Luke found her and moved to the island, too, she panicked and tried to avoid him. But he deserved answers and slowly they started to find the way back to each other. Good story, and learning about lupus was enlightening. I have an acquaintance who has it and now I see what she goes through.

Another fairly slow start. A beautiful model has it all including a love with an almost too-good-to-be true hunk whose family is obscenely social register wealthy. He proposes. She accepts. They are over the moon. A few days later, she disappears suddenly leaving only the message, don’t look for me. He can’t accept her disappearing from his life and spends two years looking for her. This is where the story really begins a chapter or two in. It is easy to get frustrated with this character. Sometimes she doesn’t make sense, while the hero is mostly stellar except for a few bumps. There were some editing issues. It is a good pass-the-time read.

This is the 2nd in the series, The main characters are Luke and Kyla. They first meet when Kyla is a super model and is using a different name. Luke asks her to marry , she says yes and then disappears. Almost by accident Luke finds her 2 years later living on an island with a herbal shop. He finds out she disappeared because she had Lupus but only because he put so much pressure on her that she ends up in the hospital. They work toward a life together but will his family ever accept her ?
Will Luke let his father turn against her? Will his older brother try to destroy it all again ? So many questions but who haas the answers?

A touching story of dedication, love, suffering and finding hope. The main characters are people that I could know in real life. What happens when decisions are made based on what is thought to be the best for everyone? The author shows how love and hope can be found in any circumstance. Also, that secrets can be harmful and can destroy relationships. The truth can bring hope and love. I enjoyed this story and look forward to reading more by this author. I received a copy of this book from the author and this is my personal honest opinion.

I enjoyed the three strong women who are the main characters in Tea & Comfort, and I found myself looking up lupus on tbe internet to find out more information since it was a big part of the book.

One thing I noticed was that the town on Madrona Island, where this series takes places, is Grandview. Grandview, Washington is east of the Cascade Mountains between Yakima and Richland, not on an island an hour north of Seattle. Odd mistake for a Northwest author to make.

This is second in the series Madrona Island, and it's not a bad romance, but I liked the first book better. The motivations for both of the central couple who separated when the female lead received a Lupus diagnosis and disappeared to the island without explaining it to her fiance, didn't make a lot of sense to me. Once they got back together it's a sweet enough romance, but there's not much plot.

Good book with interesting main characters, Kyla and Luke, who fell in love two years ago in New York, in very different circumstances. Much has changed since then. Now Luke is on Madrona Island and is the new owner of the island’s winery.

Will he and Kyla, whom he knew as supermodel Darcy Devereaux, be able to co-exist on the island, given that they have friends in common? Is it possible to resolve the problems of the past and rekindle their romance?

Kyla Nolan, AKA Darcy Devereaux, leaves her job as a top model and fiancé to Luke Bradford, disappearing for years. Luke finally finds her on a small island in Washington state running a tea and herb shop. A lot of this book just didn't make sense - I'm not sure why Kyla didn't feel she could tell Luke her secret, why she was so embarrassed about her family and why he was interested in starting things up with her again when he found her. 2.5 stars.

The importance of trust in a romantic relationship is explored in Tea and Comfort by Andrea Hurst. This second book in the Madrona Island Trilogy offers a beautiful, enchanting setting and a unique cast of characters who bring complexity into the lives of the two protagonists, Kyle and Luke. Readers enjoy the relationships among all the characters and want to return to Madrona Island to follow more stories of friendship and love.

Enjoyable Read

I've had this book on my kindle for awhile and finally decided to read it. I'm glad I did. It is a romantic and easy story to get absorbed in. The characters were like meeting new friends. Going along with them on their life journey was like spend time with people I like being with. It was a fun read.
