when it comes to dark romance, there are certain things that just CLICK. certain things that take a book from good to THAT extra extra extra fucking good. and for me, it’s a morally BLACK psycho MMC. and no, I don’t mean psycho in a little way. I mean FULL ON. completely unhinged. absolutely no fucking limits. FULL. FUCKING. PSYCHO. the kind of fictional obsession where the moral boundaries are basically nonexistent. the kind of man who genuinely does NOT care who gets hurt, not even her, as long as he gets what he wants. no limits. no moral boundaries. no “but I would never hurt her” bullshit. just pure, completely unhinged obsession.

and that might not be for everyone, but holy FUCK is it for me 😭 this is my gateway fucking drug.

and when I tell you Kane Berkley??? HE IS THAT FUCKING MAN. he is the epitome of the blueprint motherfucking DR MMC. this is what I MEAN. THIS is the reason I learned how to read. so I could devour books like this. so I could escape into Thea and Kane’s world and completely lose my fucking mind. and I am genuinely fucking SPEECHLESS.

sure, I figured out the plot fairly quickly, but did I still GASP when things were revealed? YES. did I feel big brain? also YES🧠💅🏼 and honestly I love that for me.

but the plot wasn’t even the point for me. THEIR STORY had me HOOKED. completely fucking hooked. and I’m so sad it’s over😭

and Thea??? I genuinely can’t put into words how much I felt for her. her pain felt so fucking real and my heart HURTS. I was so invested in her and everything she went through.

Ruthless Spare is the second book in the Heirmarked Series. Mia Thorn has stolen my heart once again, as I knew she would. Her writing is immersive and compelling. You’ll be completely captivated by the storyline, and swooning for the villain in no time. It’s important to note that meeting these two main characters in Faithless Heir really built on the anticipation for this release. Also having many characters return alongside Kane and Thea was a great time. They delivered!!

Thea was a beautiful character, that really surprised me. I loved her drive and how brave she was. Her backstory was heartbreaking as you got to know it. Her being a broken college girl with a dark past showed how strong she was. I was not ready for those little plot twists at all!

My sweet pitch black Grim Reaper (Kane) has surpassed all my expectations, and I knew he was going to be my new favourite. He’s definitely an MMC I’d bring to a fight. I can’t believe I’m saying that I may have loved him a tad more than Mason?

In conclusion besties, the icing on the cake for me was every time that Kane would refer to Thea as Miss Ashbourne. Seriously, what a way to give me goosebumps every single time. His whole attitude and level of unhinged was just hot hot hot. Get it Thea!!!

Ruthless Spare is book 2 in the heirmarked series and oh boy was it a good one!! I loved the mystery surrounding both of the main characters with this story, for me it made the book more interesting and gave it some good plot twists. Not only that It has made me more invested in this series because of how well the side characters started to come out more and give you a sense of how good their books will be!!!

Overall, do I recommend this book? Obviously!!! I do recommend that you read faithless heir first but you don't have to but It will definitely help you be integrated into the story better.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVED (book one) Faithless Heir, so I had been impatiently waiting for Ruthless Spare for Thea and Kane’s Story…and I DEVOURED this book! I could not put it down. If you’ve read Faithless Heir, you’ve already met this cold, calculated psychopath Kane — and yes, I liked Mason and his morally grey version of chaos, but Kane completely swept me off my feet. This man isn’t just morally grey. He’s pitch‑black. There is nothing — absolutely nothing — Kane wouldn’t do to achieve his goal.

Thea is the perfect counterpart to him, challenging him at every corner. She’s a captivating mystery of strength and vulnerability. The secret she carries teases the reader’s nerves and curiosity, and when it finally comes out, it breaks your heart.

No one tells Kane “no”, and in this book Thea gets to experience that quite literally. And before that, there’s a rug‑pull twist that made me scream out loud in the middle of the night and send Mia furious messages.

And dear god… the spicy scenes. These moments are pure fire — intense, breath‑stealing, and unapologetically hot. The heat in this book is relentless, and Mia doesn’t hold back for a second.

I loved every moment of this book, and huge kudos to Mia for her ability to portray the coldness and emotional void of a true psychopath chasing his endgame. Some of the breadcrumb clues didn’t click for me during beta — which annoyed me so much I went back to check if they were actually there. And yes, they were.

This book is absolutely something you need to read — and it doesn’t matter if you haven’t read the first one. You can easily start with this.

This book had me completely hooked from the beginning. The atmosphere, suspense, secrets, and morally grey characters made it such an addictive read that I genuinely struggled to put it down.

The FMC’s storyline really stood out to me. She’s been living quietly and trying to keep herself hidden, but one mistake throws her straight into Kane Berkeley’s world and from there, everything changes. I loved the mystery surrounding her past and the feeling that there was always another secret waiting to be uncovered.

Kane is the definition of a brooding, morally grey character. He’s calculating, intimidating, and impossible to predict, which made every scene involving him so tense. Their forced proximity and secretive dynamic kept me turning the pages because I never knew what was going to happen next.

I also really appreciated the darker atmosphere and the mental-health representation woven into the story. It gave the characters more emotional depth and made the story feel like more than just suspense.

There were twists that genuinely kept me guessing, and the overall atmosphere was exactly the kind of dark, tense reading experience I was looking for.

OMG another anticipated read for me. 
I have been so excited to read this book and Thea and Kane didn’t disappoint. 

Though it took me a little longer to warm up to them than with Mason & Eva in the last book. This is was more a slow burn for me, though not so much for the characters. Phew this book is spicy and I loved every minute of that! The primal play did not disappoint. I really liked Thea, so sweet and protective, with some very high walls. The only question being can Kane break them down? I wasn’t sure about Kane at the start, unsure of him and his motives. But it didn’t take long for him to break down my walls and my heart. Obsessed might not be a strong enough word for the Grim Reaper. Though I can’t deny that they did have great chemistry right from the start both as unmovable as the other. Ultimately I loved their story, the way it took it’s time and let everything unravel. 

Overall the beginning felt a slow to medium pace the second half picked up and flew away with me. It was great to be back in this world with the characters from the first book. Some new mysteries and secrets, along with a lot of tension, some violence and some moments that just left me heart broken. Bring out the tissues for this one. There are dark topics, I advise reading the warnings if needed. As for me I am already anticipating the next book.

Mia has officially ruined my ability to put a book down because Ruthless Spare completely consumed me. 😭🔥 I had the chance to beta read this one, and somehow I still flew through it like I was reading it for the first time. One sitting. Gone. Absolutely devoured.

After Faithless Heir, I already knew Kane Berkley was going to be a problem, but WOW. Mason had his morally grey moments, but Kane exists on an entirely different level. 🖤 This man is cold, calculating, ruthless, and so far beyond morally grey that there really isn’t much grey left. If Kane wants something, he will get it—and there is absolutely no line he won’t cross to reach his endgame. 😮‍💨

Then we have Thea, who was such a perfect match for him. She isn’t intimidated by Kane and constantly pushes back against him, which made their dynamic incredibly addictive. 🔥 There’s so much strength in her, but she also carries a vulnerability that slowly comes to light. The secret surrounding her had me suspicious and curious throughout the book, and when everything finally came together… my heart broke. 💔

And Mia KNOWS how to throw a twist. There was one particular reveal that completely blindsided me. I was sitting there thinking, there is no way she just did that and immediately needed to scream about it. 😂😭

One thing I really appreciated was how cleverly the story was put together. There were moments where I thought I had everything figured out, only for Mia to completely prove me wrong. 😂 Looking back, so many little details actually made sense once I knew where the story was heading, which made the reveals even more satisfying. I love when an author can surprise me without the twist feeling random. 👀🖤

Kane and Thea together are absolute insanity. The possessiveness, obsession, tension, and power struggle between them had me hooked. 🥵🖤 And the spice? GOOD LORD. 🔥🔥 Mia absolutely did not come to play. Those scenes were intense, filthy, and impossible to forget.

What impressed me most, though, was Kane himself. Writing a character who is genuinely cold and emotionally detached while still making him compelling is not easy, but Mia absolutely nailed it. You can feel how focused he is on his goal and how little emotion gets in the way of achieving it.

Thea and Kane’s backstories were also incredibly well done, and learning more about what shaped both of them made their connection even more fascinating. There’s so much darkness, suspense, obsession, and unpredictability packed into this book that I was never bored for even a second. 🖤👀

I went into this after Faithless Heir wondering whether Kane’s story could live up to the first book, and somehow Mia managed to make me even more obsessed. Kane Berkley may have officially stolen my favourite spot. 😭🖤

And if you haven’t read Faithless Heir yet, you can still jump into Ruthless Spare without being completely lost. But personally, I’d still recommend experiencing the series from the beginning.

The men are obsessive, I think Kane being a little worse than mason lol Kane was depraved and wicked. He always wanted to win at everything even if it meant Thea believing something fabricated. Thea got caught slipping now she’s on Kane’s radar and I don’t know if that’s a good place to be. Kane has latched on to Thea and is not letting go. He very much gives he licked its mine( I mean he did lick 🤭)! Thea is like leave me alone but don’t. These two! They are both hiding something and I know it’s going to be big. I don’t know whose secret I want to know more. There are clues dropping along the way. Thea is my girl she got some spunk. She is well organized but there is something lying beneath the surface. I love Kane. He’s like many other MMCs, possessive, jealous, OTT but he just has this air about him that I can’t describe but it’s just different. I like it! This man has a lot on his control but once that thang popped open it was over. We keeping getting these o sh*t moments and I am living for them. The spice in this book was sizzling. I wish I could tell you about one of the scenes but I can’t. I’ll give you one hint there was a booth involved. Let your mind do with that as it wants. I was not prepared for this book. I saw nothing coming, I was on my toes the entire time. These two hard headed jokers enjoy each other. They both deserved to be happy and I’m glad they got it. Mia well done. The writing is top notch, I was engaged the whole time. I giggled, my flabbers were ghasted, I had a few tears all the emotions. I loved it! This book will be added to shelf.

I was immediately caught up in this story. Ruthless Spare is part of a series of interconnected standalones, and while you could read it on its own, I really recommend reading Faithless Heir first.

I’m not going to lie: while I was excited for Thea’s story, I was considerably less excited about getting more Kane. 😂 And while the banter, frankly shocking spice, and chemistry between them were undeniably well done, I still wasn’t his biggest fan.

And then his loyalty got me.

Damn it, Kane.

But Mia Thorn apparently crawls out of the woodwork like some kind of plot-weaving black-widow ninja, because just when I thought I knew what she was doing with this story, she pulled the threads together and gave me everything. I genuinely sat there staring blankly for a few seconds before I busted out laughing.

Well fucking done, maestro.

This book was unhinged, addictive, unsettling, and more than a little heartbreaking. Somehow, it was also cathartic and victorious—and that combination worked ridiculously well.

This is only Mia Thorn’s second book, and that might be the part that has me most impressed. I cannot wait to see what happens as she continues to grow into her craft because, frankly, if I were a dark romance author, Mia Thorn would make me nervous.

Thea was the perfect match for him. She’s smart, a peace-maker, and definitely not afraid to push back. But she has so many walls around her, and underneath them is a past so painful it genuinely brought tears to my eyes. Kane slowly sees through those walls and becomes her anchor when she had spent so long never settling anywhere.

Their banter, power struggles, possessiveness, and insane tension were EVERYTHING. And the intimacy? Over the roof! Primal chase, masks, and all those kinks that make you blush… YES.🔥

The twists within the twists, the secrets, the political dynamics, and the “touch her and die” energy had me SHOCKED. The second half flew by, and there were moments that genuinely hurt.

I also loved the group of friends and seeing familiar faces from book one. I can’t wait for book 3!

Honestly, Kane made this story for me. I love it when I can actually picture the MMC in my head, and Kane? Yeah… he stole a little piece of my heart. 🖤🔥

This is one of the kind of book you read where you find yourself staring at the wall afterwards wondering how in the hell everything put itself back together so seamlessly. Mia's writing style is pure sorcery she enraptures you and transports you into the world of her own creation.

I absolutely LOVED Faithless Heir and worried that Ruthless Spare would suffer from middle child syndrome, but my, oh my, was I absolutely wrong. Mason Grant can move to the back of the line because Kane Berkeley has taken front and center for me.

Both Thea's and Kane's back stories were so well thought out down to every last detail, and the little snippets we got along the way? Pure brilliance. I loved that instead of yearning we got obsession, possession, and submission from Kane and Thea. There was no question that Thea belongs to Kane, and Kane belongs to Thea.

This is absolutely one of my favorite reads of the year, hands down. I'm sure I'm about to find out I've got the worst book hangover and nothing will compare to this. There are so many aspects of this book that I could blab on about, but I'll let the book speak for itself, once you read it you'll understand 😉

Oh Thea…how you make my heart ache. When you can relate to characters in a book, it sucks you in. Thea hides in plain site so well…but the moment Kane sees her, she’s no longer hidden…he SEES her. I know the exact moment in the book where I told myself “he loves her!” No, neither had said it, but I could just tell he had fallen and fallen hard. Kane is cold and calculating. He is known for keeping his head…until Thea. And Thea, she lives her life expecting to never meet anyone or to ever live a true life. These two are perfect for each other. The spice…it spices. I do feel there could have been a little more, but this is still not a book for under 18 because KANE IS HOT! I’m talking HOURS of hot! I don’t know how Thea doesn’t need a wheelchair to get around. There are times where I questioned ages…and once or twice I felt like I missed something, but not enough to put the book down. I would recommend this book to any dark romance reader. This is far from the darkest I’ve read but still dark.

Urgh I am in love! Such an amazing book! Mia Thorn has done it again because I ATE this book up!!! I finished it in just 1 day and genuinely could not put it down. I keep on guessing what is Thea hiding, and I was wrong. It was more than what I think! I was so invested from starting to the ending. The plot? The characters? The twist? All 10 out of 10! I love everything about this book!

Thea and Kane's realtionship are perfect (chef's kiss)! Kane is a massive red flag but hello I'm colorblind. I love him so much! Their love story was not perfect, but where's the fun in that. So many things happened and I keep on saying WTF to my kindle. Poor kindle, she keeps on getting cursed by me. And Eva is such a good friend. I love their friendship so so much! Thea's story was emotional and I was heartbroken when she finally shared what happened in her past. Kane is what she really need to light up her life.

Mia, you are amazing. I love everything you write and I can't wait for the next book!

Mia Thore does it again! I feel like she just knows how to write a dark romance book. I was able to devour this book in 3 days while in school and completing a class. I could not put this book down. I would definitely recommend reading the trigger warnings before reading this book because it deals with some heavy and dark topics. The plot can get lost at points, but only for the spice scenes, which I don’t mind. The twist at the end was amazing, and I was not expecting it. This book also has some really spicy scenes, so if that's not your thing, I wouldn’t recommend it. Overall, I think this book (and series) is definitely worth it.

Kane & Thea's story was everything and MORE. i truly couldn't put this one down - i loved Eva & Mason's story, but the shadows that lurked within Kane, the dark calculations behind his every move, and the authority he has with just one single word - pack it upppp!! i knew i was a goner.

Thea has my whole entire heart. i found bits of myself in her and loved her even more because of it. running and shielding herself from every trigger, every dark place, only to be brought to the darkness who would shield her from it all. Kane.

and this man... THIS MAN!! Mia, i don't know how you do it - but i fear i have developed a palate for fictional men who would not only ruin the world for their girl, but ruin me for all other fictional men… he wanted nothing more than to just have Thea for himself, all of her. and while she could always run, he would always catch her...

i plan to keep these two tucked away in my morally gray heart forever. and ever. 🖤

As a perk of being part of Mia Thorn's Team I received this arc soon and I was so glad to be part of that, because I witness for the second time Mia's books.
Kane and Thea's book was so beautiful and well-written. I loved every single moments, events and I liked so much the characters as individuals and as a couple. Honestly fist of all, Mia WHAT DID YOU PUT IN THIS BOOK? Really 1 was so fast reading this book that even I believed to have already finished it!
This book is excellent, entertaining and addict.
I was already locked with the fist one book, Mason and Eva's book, and here 1 am again telling to all the people to read this book!
Honestly I am so curious about the next one, like I begged you to have another book (I hope Hugo's book), because l am enchanted by your writing style.

Finished Reading as an e-ARC reader. I would like to say that I'm impressed with this Author! I loved her Faithless Heir so much that I was so happy to receive an e-ARC of this book!

Reasons I love this book.

•Dark, msyterious,broody, tactical, nonchalant, calm, collected, calculated MMC. But if his patience runs out you better 🏃‍♀️ 🏃‍♂️ coz he ain't stoppin'!

•Broken FMC but not on his vocab.
•The only MMC I've ever read that's never verbal, instead, an action taker.

There wasn't much action and plot twist on this one like the first book but maybe because I read too much dark romance that this became somehow predictable to me. Overall it was still very satisfying.

‼️YOU HAVE TO READ THE FIRST BOOK THOUGH‼️ It's an interconnected Stand-Alone so you might get confused on some of the events and sudden pop-ups of some characters.

“Ruthless Spare” the name says it all! I’m pretty sure my mind was blown at the end of this book. I wanted more!!
Kane and Thea WOW!

The Ripper and the quiet one. Thea gets in deep and it spirals all around her. When I say all around her I mean Kane.

First off I recommend reading book one. It helps to get to know the characters and the overall situation. This maybe different character but they are connected in many ways.

Second I’m not telling anything about this one 😘 Kane is obsessive, possessive, and will ☠️ anything that touches Thea. Thea has many secrets and this girl is strong as he🏒🏒.

Third this is a must read I devoured it. It had so many twists and turns. “Holy what” moments. I loved the first book but Kane and Thea won my heart. ♥️

Mia Thorn has done it again. I ATE this book up!!!! Literally finished it in 2 days, I couldn’t put it down.

The plot 10/10. The characters 10/10. The mystery (and twist) 10/10.

Thea and Kane were so perfect for each other and I loved the push and pull between them. How Kane brought Thea to the “light” after living in the darkness for so long and hiding was done perfectly and exactly what she needed.

Mia Thorn is becoming a MUST read author for me and I can not wait to see what she releases next. I am already itching for it!

And she has done it again! This was beautifully written story, every aspect of both Thea and Kane were chefs kiss. I have so many highlights that I don't know how I didn't basically highlighted the whole book. I can't say I relate to Thea's story entirely but I have experinced some things in life and reading her thoughts only makes me feel stronger, like those days will always be here but I hold the control over them. Another masterpiece by this brilliant author who keep me on my toes waiting for book three already! This was also the most I ever messaged any author while ARC reading, at one point I was doing more texting than I did reading.

Holy smokes I knew this was going to be epic after reading Faithless Heir.

But we stepped it up abit with the unhinged morally black MMC Kane, and holy hell he is one demanding, obsessive and totally hot MMC.

Also can we just address that I love the way he says Miss Ashbourne all the time!! it's enough to make your knees go weak 😈🔥 I need a Kane 🥵

It's dark, unhinged spicy, and a crime lord who totally rules the town.

It's brilliant, a plot story that keeps you turning pages and a morally black MMC who you can't help loving...

Highly recommend loved it 👌

Ruthless Spare is Book Two in the Heirmarked Series, and it is one you won't want to miss. Honestly, this is a 6-star read if they existed. I ate this book up in one sitting, and I am obsessed! it was a fast read, which I always love. After book one (Faithless Heir) i was worried about how this book would measure up but I think I've got a new favourite, and his name is Kane Berkley

This book exceeded all expectations. Kane and Thea's stories of their pasts were very well written, the possessiveness and obsessiveness speaks for itself. This might just be my new top read of the year and there is so much I could say but I will let you all read it for yourselves! I think I might just read it again to get a better review going too

If I didn’t have adult responsibilities- I would have finished this book in one sitting.

It was AMAZING! Maybe even better than the first one.

The characters had a death grip on my heart since page 1, the plot was both emotionally gripping and edge-of-your-seat action in a way that made me not want to stop reading, and the banter made me laugh out loud several times. What more could you ask for.

Also- the 🌶️? 10/10, no notes.

Overall, run don’t walk to get your copy of this book! And there better be a book 3 or I riot.

This is book 2 in the HeirMarked series and one the dark romance fans will want to read without a doubt.

Thea and Kane are the unlikely couple we cheer for (if we see beyond the red flags 🚩 and lord knows we do)

The love of this story is in the details, the intricate and well thought out back stories and the way the book flows and makes you feel the emotion and connection to the characters is beautiful.

Although i love 🌶️ in my books i’m more of a plot girl and thankfully this author makes sure we have plenty of both-i am addicted!
