Watching a romance author navigate Hollywood while pretending to date her own leading man was every bit as chaotic and entertaining as it sounds.
Piper was easily my favorite part. She’s funny, warm, talented, and wonderfully self-assured without feeling unrealistically confident. I especially appreciated that her plus-size body was part of her experience without becoming her entire personality.
Ben took some time to win me over, but seeing the softer Texas boy underneath his polished Hollywood persona added so much more to his character. His relationships with his family and friends gave him depth, and I enjoyed watching the fake relationship slowly blur into something more genuine. Their chemistry, the movie-set chaos, and the cozy Southern details kept me completely invested.
A few parts of the relationship development felt a little rushed compared with how much space was given to the later conflict, and I would have liked more from Maisie too. Still, the characters, setting, humor, and emotional moments made this such an enjoyable read.
It had plenty of charm and personality, and I’d happily pick up another story from this world.

This was such a charming and hilarious romcom! I really enjoyed this journey through the ups and downs of Hollywood life, movie magic, and of course, a fake relationship that starts feeling a little too real.
The story follows Piper, a romance novelist whose dream suddenly becomes a reality when her book gets turned into a major motion picture. Things get even more interesting when famous actor Ben Hartman is cast as the male lead. After their first meet Piper is convinced, he's a giant prick. But despite her best efforts to steer clear of Ben and his arrogant Hollywood persona, the studio decides to stir the pot and suggests the two enter into a fake PR relationship to drum up excitement for the movie. As they spend more time together, Piper starts to see that there is a lot more to Ben than his pretty face and Hollywood facade.
I really enjoyed the family dynamics woven throughout the story. Piper's complicated relationship with her mom added a layer to her character and gave us a glimpse into some of the things that shaped her. I especially loved getting to see Piper spend time with Ben's family in his hometown and experience what a healthy, loving family dynamic can look like. There was something really sweet about watching her see that kind of love and support firsthand, especially in contrast to her own relationship with her mom.
I also really appreciated the plus sized representation with Piper. It felt refreshing to have a plus size FMC whose body wasn't treated like something that needed to be fixed or constantly made into a storyline. She gets to be confident, desirable, successful, and completely herself, and I loved seeing that representation.
T.L. Hauser's take on some of the popular romance book tropes was so refreshing. Everything felt fresh, fun, and perfectly suited to the Hollywood setting. The tension, witty banter and lighthearted humor absolutely kept my attention.
My only real issue was the miscommunication surrounding their relationship toward the end. Don't get me wrong... I love when a book has a 3rd act conflict. In this case, this conflict repeated twice in a similar fashion. I wish it would have been resolved when it first became an issue in their relationship. Ben's indecisiveness, especially after changing his mind twice, was a little frustrating for me. Thankfully, it didn't take away too much from what was otherwise such a fun reading experience.
Selling Sunset was a delightful and entertaining romcom that gave me all the Hollywood glam, movie magic, tension, and laughs I was looking for. If you're looking for a feel-good romance with fun takes on familiar tropes, definitely add this one to your TBR!

Wow! What a great rom-com! This is this author’s second book, and I loved it even more than the first. I was completely immersed in the main characters’ lives. I laughed, I cried, and I was downright irate—all in the best ways possible! The characters felt so real, and the story pulled me in from beginning to end. And of course, there was just the right amount of spice!
I absolutely loved this one and can’t wait to see what this author comes up with next! Highly recommend!

From JERK to FAVORITE!
This is one of those books where you can’t stand a character but you absolutely adore them by the end of the book. And the fire and spunk in the MFC is sooooo good! Definitely a 5 star read!!

This book is the best RomCom I have read. The author really brought me into the world of these characters and I forgot I was not apart of the book as I was reading. It is a MUST READ!!!!!

Selling Sunset is an addicting romance full of all the delicious tropes of your dreams!
It follows Piper, a romance author whose fantasy is coming true, as her book is being made into a major film and she's being flown out to work as a creative consultant. Things in her life should be perfect now, right? WRONG! The lead actor in her book's film adaptation is Ben FREAKING Hartman, a Hollywood heartthrob with a major attitude. While Piper strives to avoid him and not let his arrogance get to her, things take a hard turn when the studio decides that nothing would make the audience swoon quite like a romance between author and star. Cue the fake dating scheme that seems destined to fall apart. That is, until spending a little more time together shows Ben that Piper is no small-town uncultured hick, and proves to Piper that there's a lot more to Ben than his grandiose self-image.
Selling Sunset is an absolute blast full of moments with toe-curling tension and toe-curling... other things. It takes the tropes you've seen before and reimagines them in a setting built on Hollywood hopes and movie magic. The familiarity of themes didn't feel tired at all and instead serves as cozy comfort food for the soul. I genuinely couldn't stop reading and almost shirked all other duties in order to sit down and read it from start to finish.
Piper is a lovable and relatable main character. Her plus size is often mentioned in the book, so I feel it's worth mentioning here as it's often a source of discomfort and torment. This is Hollywood, after all, where emaciated models are excessively aware of their weight at all times, so Piper stands out in a major way among them, and it's not always in a good one. Despite being constantly underestimated and disrespected, Piper stands her ground most of the time, not in a way that screams "confidence," but in a way that screams "I recognize that I am worth something." She honestly handles the weight-related harassment way better than I would have (I could cry just imagining it happening to me) and has a quiet self-assurance that realistically fails at times, but otherwise supports her.
There's so much to her beyond her weight, even though it's logically mentioned several times throughout the novel. She's a very talented writer and true empath with a fierceness that makes the reader genuinely care about her and invest in her success. I feel like, in quite a few ways, Piper is who we aspire to be, but not in a way where we can't find her faults. Despite her ability to sometimes write off those who treat her poorly, her self-esteem doesn't go entirely unaffected and her patience sometimes dwindles with the counterfeit romance between Ben and her.
Which of course bring me TO Ben. And I'll be honest... I wasn't positive Hauser would save this character in my eyes. He starts out as M A J O R butthole. Like with the exaggerated arrogance of a true narcissist that had me thinking "uh oh... I'm not sure he can come back from this" Yet Hauser proved me entirely wrong. Through small snippets of his past and the side of him that comes out when it's only Piper and him, Ben's true nature floats to the surface and it is marvelous. This is a person who recognizes and leans into the absurdness of the Hollywood sham in an effort to guard himself from the vipers around him. His past is traumatic, but his heart remains hopeful, much to his dismay. Ben manages to put most fictional men to shame, even while experiencing a major character arc.
The quiet yearning in this book is exquisite and the character development is top-notch. At times, it does feel a bit exaggerated, such as the terms of disparagement Ben's agent and Piper's mom unleash on her throughout the book (my sanguine heart insists no one talks like that... right?!) The pacing is perfect with the perfect balance of slow-burn through the beginning third, the delectable avalanche of spice throughout the middle act, and the ideal romantic strife and self-confrontations that finish the book (no spoilers!)
I might argue that sometimes the dialogue and friendships are a little corny, but I also might argue that I enjoyed those aspects of it thoroughly. I truly am finding it difficult to point out flaws in the book that weren't somehow endearing. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by the perfect balance Selling Sunset strikes of emotional comfort food and evocative romantic escapism.

I really enjoyed this story. I came across it on an ARC group on Facebook when TL Hauser made a post about her promo, and I was lucky to be offered an ARC for the story. I think there's so much good about this story that TL Hauser left off her promo for the ARCs, so I hope with the launch she focuses more on the wonderfulness of Piper, the way Ben holds himself to certain standards, the narrative of Piper being a prolific author with her first book to movie adaptation and Ben taking the lead role, and how that develops the story and their bond.
Piper is a wonderful lead character. She's plus size, but that's the least interesting thing about her. She's quick-witted and humorous, and she appreciates a good girl friend. She's engaging and warm and the kind of person you'd want to hang out with.
Ben on the other hand, is stoic and reserved to the point of rudeness. He's professional, but sometimes buys into the acting world a little too hard. There's another side to him though, the country boy from Texas who is soft and considerate of his mother, who values his best friend Rhett and his opinion over almost everything else.
We have the two alternating chapters to describe the action as Piper's book is optioned for a movie, and the storyline flows from that first optioning to the premiere of the movie. Their agents work on a fake dating classic promo, with the author and actor being put together to create excitement and promote the movie. Along the way we meet other actors, directors, and a certain fun boom mic operator (Elle is fantastic) and see the multifaceted sides of each character.
There were things I didn't enjoy. I didn't quite buy the relationship between Ben and Piper, it felt very surface level, based on libido and an appreciation for BBQ ribs. There was a lot of insecurity around scenarios that didn't fit. For example, they had a moment in Piper's room at Ben's mom's house, and he left the room in the small hours of the morning despite his mother's request that they don't, and yet Piper has a sense of rejection on waking instead of the logical "at least Ben's mom won't find out what we did". It stretched the story for me, pages 300-400 on my ebooks reader could have been heavily condensed to remove these moments and rework them so we see more of the developing feelings. Likewise, the argument they have for the break apart moment felt exceptionally savage, and I didn't see that there was any coming back from the things that Ben especially said. He was very back and forth, and then just purely spiteful, and I couldn't see him as a leading man when he was so awful. Piper seemed to work better without him, not just in her career, but with her friends and experiences too.
Pete's character seems to change halfway along the series, and becomes the antagonist, and it left me wondering why he agreed for Ben to be paired with Piper in the first place.
I also felt like the Maisie story was under developed, forgotten about as soon as Ben and Piper sign on to the celebrity couple plan, and only remembered when the relationship was over, and I felt like her opinion could have given some real weight, to both characters and to the plot when it came to the split up scenes.
But despite those complaints, this was still one of the best ARCs I've read. TL Hauser is fantastic at characterisation and description, she sets a scene really well and it flows beautifully. I'd happily read another of her books!

This book is just so easy to fall into! Somehow, during the quiet moments of Saturday's chores, I devoured 24 chapters.
I sat in a boring DIY car park while my hubby looked at wood... meanwhile, I was escaping into the story of Piper Pearce’s book being turned into a film—and her delicious love-hate relationship with Ben, the leading man! I’ve honestly never enjoyed being stuck in a car babysitting a chop saw and workbench so much. 🤣
We had leftovers for dinner, and thankfully hubby was on his laptop so I could keep watching the sparks fly between Ben and Piper. 😁 I won't spoil what happens, but I thoroughly enjoyed every high and low of their "fake relationship" becoming something more.
Overall, this is the perfect beach read or cozy under-the-blankets book with Christmas music in the background, as the storyline spans across both seasons. (Being in New Zealand, I can actually do both since Christmas is in summer for us! 😂)
The ending was sweet, and the final page was such a neat idea to wrap up the story. Plus, the epilogue leaves you desperate for book two in this series of interconnected standalones.

First thing I want to say is how hard it can be to tell your story. So many props for Hauser to tell her story through one of her characters. Piper is such a sweet character, extremely lovable and a role model for women! She is by farrrrr my favorite.
Ben was a hard character for me to like throughout the book. He’s got that Hollywood “I’m too good for you” kind of vibe. Ben’s redemption for me was tied to his relationships with his friends and family.
The backstories for the characters really sets the stage for who they are as people. Very thankful they were explained. Pipers mom… 😡😡😡 you’ll understand when you get there.
Overall this book brought fourth discussions of emotional trauma and very gracefully tore it apart. If you want some emotional healing, Hollywood romance, strong female character and some fake dating, this one is for you!
As someone who travels, one of my favorite parts was the travel lists for must see places. There are some interesting ones to add to the bucket list!
Selling Sunset has some length to it, so make sure you are comfy, have plenty of snacks and something to drink! 🧇 🍹

First thing I want to say is how hard it can be to tell your story. So many props for Hauser to tell her story through one of her characters. Piper is such a sweet character, extremely lovable and a role model for women! She is by farrrrr my favorite.
Ben was a hard character for me to like throughout the book. He’s got that Hollywood “I’m too good for you” kind of vibe. Ben’s redemption for me was tied to his relationships with his friends and family.

This book drops you into a world of Hollywood, with fake dating. I love a good fake dating book when its done right and I this book did it right.
Ben Hartman was something else of a character, and it took a while for him to grow on me, especially after how he acted with Piper. I knew beneath the hard exterior he showed everyone, there had to be something soft within him, he just had to let it be known and shown.
Piper was such a fun loving character. I wished over and over that she would just love herself but also understood her background and how hard it was to just let go and let people in after everything she went through.
What I loved about this story alot was the fact that Piper was plus size but she didnt let that take over her whole personality. The banter and spice was also a hit.
If you are looking for a book that will make you laugh, spice is minimal and done well, make you want to shake the shoulders of Ben Hartman, and love on Piper, check this one out!

I do not think I have ever finished a book so quickly in my adult life! I loved everything about this love story. It genuinely made me laugh out loud, yell at the characters, kick my feet and scream, and act like I was a part of their world at times. It is such a fun read, and the characters are so likable. If you are into a slow burn romance, this is THE book for you. It was executed perfectly. I also feel like it was unique; popular tropes were present but it didn’t feel like I’ve already read this story before. I absolutely loved the way the author included the inner dialogues of the MMC and FMC and how there were so many parallels between them but they couldn’t see it. And the BANTER! So much banter. So much fun. I highly recommend this for your next read, you will not be disappointed! And I cannot WAIT for the next one in the series!

So I’m going to start this review by saying how much I LOVE NC based books and NC based authors so this definitely covered those bases for me.
If you’re a romance, NC, and food girlie, this is for you. I basically stayed hungry reading this bc the food was described so perfectly.
I also loved that there was Savannah, Charleston, and a few other places in the book that I’ve visited.
The only thing I wasn’t necessarily crazy about was one of the characters (Maisie) wasn’t consistently in the picture and she just kind of showed up every now and then. This is such a minor complaint though considering the story line was great, it kept me interested from the jump, and I literally read this in two days.
If you’re a romance girlie, I seriously recommend you read this one.
