Wow... what a story! You know that feeling when you're so completely lost in a book that the appearance of the epilogue feels almost offensive? That was me with Black Orchard. I wasn't ready for it to end, and that final tease has me desperate to get my hands on the next book. One of my favorite parts of this story was Marina's journey. Watching her grow from a quiet, withdrawn young woman into someone willing to challenge her fears and embrace her own strength was incredibly satisfying. What I loved most was that her growth felt real. She doesn't magically become fearless. The shadows still haunt her. The unknown still terrifies her. But she chooses to move forward anyway, and there's something powerful about witnessing that transformation. And then there's Vlad. The man-or monster-that everyone fears. Dark, dangerous, and impossible to ignore. Yet beneath the fear and mystery surrounding him is a connection with Marina that had me completely invested. Their relationship is intense, captivating, and beautifully woven into the story. Every interaction pulled me deeper into their world, making it impossible to stop turning pages. Jennifer McBain has crafted a dark, atmospheric tale filled with mystery, danger, growth, and a romance that kept me hooked from beginning to end. By the time I reached the last page, I wasn't ready to leave these characters behind. Now I'm left with a book hangover, a head full of questions, and an urgent need for the next installment.
This story had me hooked right away. There is drama, a little trauma, and a mystery that only gets more intriguing as you read. Oh did I mention all the tension from the slow burn enemies to lovers trope. Love love love.
