Rufus knew that artists need to suffer, but on the other hand, they also need their mommy to pay next month's rent so they can continue taking university classes. But how to make someone give you money? Armed with the evangelical treatise The Five Love Languages, Rufus hopes he can use words of affirmation, acts of service, gifts, quality time, and, if necessary, even physical touch to earn his next month's rent.

Rufus!

Rufus! You poor ne’er do well. I read these two short texts years ago and they have stuck with me until now. Vivid imagery of the pitfalls of modern navigation. How indeed does Rufus find his way in the world?

As a misanthropic character, Rufus does seem to also display many philanthropic tendencies. He just wants to help the untenable situation we all find ourselves wallowing through. In his innocence, there is some hope (from what I remember). Definitely inviting a re-read!
