No Return is a short time-travel mystery that surprised me with its ending.
The story follows detective Vijay as he investigates a decades-old murder case. What starts as a crime investigation gradually becomes something much darker and more personal. The strongest part of the book is the central idea and the final twist, which recontextualizes much of what came before.
The book moves quickly and is easy to finish in one sitting. Readers who enjoy mysteries, time-travel concepts, and tragic endings may find it interesting.
The main weakness is that the story sometimes feels compressed. Several characters, especially Priya, could have benefited from more development and page time. Some parts of the investigation also move very quickly.
Despite that, the book succeeds in delivering a memorable ending and an unusual take on the detective genre. For a debut work, it shows creativity and a willingness to take risks rather than following a predictable formula.
