Running from an abusive home has taken its toll on Mary. Homeless for years and at the end of her rope, she is sure her life can't get any worse.
Who could have seen a bear attack coming?

It also doesn’t hurt that he's got five sexy clan brothers. Can Mary figure out why she's so drawn to Jackson, or will forces beyond their control break the two apart for good?

My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 Unicorns - I loved it!!! ***Received a copy of the ebook for an honest review
The cover is awesome, and I would have to pick it up if I saw it sitting on a shelf :) Isn’t he just sexy…both man and beast :)
Okay this is the first part of the serial novella series. What does all that mean? Well novella is the length, and it is under 100 pages and a quick read. Being a serial series means all the parts together add up to the whole story. It is like watching episodes from a series on TV except you must read it in order to understand what is happening. At the present, this is not a complete serial, so if you have a problem waiting for each of the subsequent parts, you might want to wait until it is complete. I’m not sure how many parts will be in this series at this time.
I devoured this story. I loved it, and I couldn’t put it down. Claudia’s work just keeps getting better and better. I connected with Mary from the start. There was action galore and drama. I really like the sexy Jackson and his clan mates seem humorous. I can’t wait to see what happens next.
I recommend this to lovers of bear shifters who like a good serial and don’t mind that is just starting and not complete yet :) I can’t wait for more!!!

"Who does not love a Big Cuddly Teddy Bear!" This book is incredible!. The characters are fantastic! , ans the story line is riveting!. Curvy spunky Mary is hitchhiking across country. When a guy picks her up like all they others he wants favors for helping her so he stops at a road side rest stop. Here they are attacked by a Bear. Only this was no ornery Bear he was a shape shifter. The Bear kills the Guy and puts Mary in the hospital. Mary wakes up in the hospital healing faster then she should be. Then a sexy stranger shows up in her room stating he is checking her out of the hospital. Jackson is a Bear shifter to but a good one. When he heard about Mary he knows he has to get her away from humans. What he did not count on is Mary is his fated mate. Jackson has a feeling the rogue who attacked her will come after her. Can Jackson protect his mate?. Plus Jackson knows she is going to change into a Bear how is he going to explain this to Mary?. This book has lots of Suspense, action ,humor, and some really steamy romance! I can not wait for book #2! This is a must read series!.
No major cliff hanger here. Forbearance is a novella that introduces the reader to Mary, a homeless runaway waif who has traveled her way across the states on an endless cycle for the past seven years since she was fifteen. Use to men who offer a lone hitchhiking woman a ride with the expected repetitious strings attached that always seem to be entailed, Mary and her latest ride are attacked by a bear during a late night stop at a rest area. After watching her companion eviscerated Mary suffers a mauling she is positive she won’t survive. Less than twenty four hours later she awakens in a hospital nearly healed. Vision that was impaired is now better than perfect and lord is she ever hungry. By keeping her identity secret she avoids anyone notifying her zealot family of her injuries and location. So she’s mildly surprised to say the least when someone comes calling claiming to be a relative. And what a hunky specimen of manhood is her newly claimed relative.
Jackson is the alpha of the closest were-bear group. He knows exactly just how rare Mary is and just how potentially dangerous as well. Speaking quickly and quietly he convinces Mary it’s in her best interests and everyone at the hospital to sign herself out AMA. A bit disbelieving and definitely mistrusting, Mary rides along with Jackson to his cabin in the woods of Montana. A camp site he shares with five other bear shifters. Life is just beginning to get interesting for Mary as she adjusts to the bear inside and her growing lust for the alpha bear. Riding the coat tails of her adjustment is the impending threat of the outcast grizzly that turned her.
While this story had a HFN ending it is far from over. Even so I felt happy with the ending as it wasn’t a ruthless cliff hanger. I look forward to seeing where the relationship between Jackson and Mary goes and I definitely want to see the villain of the piece get his comeuppance. I’m looking forward to reading Forbearance 2. This book was given to me in exchange for an honest review.
This was given to me by the author and it is a short read. An intro to a series I guess. It was my first book with shape shifting (other than Twilight) and it was an interesting book. The book is well written and held me long enough to finish it fast. It is only 82 pages long on my reading app. I did not notice any typos or grammar issues (which is a biggie for me). The story is nice but it is just the setup. There is a lot of questions still and the book ends without answering many questions. Have to read the next book in the series.
A couple of things bothered me:
1. Mary, the main female character is a run away and has been on the streets for years. She makes it sound like she has exchanged sex for ride many times over when the guy giving her a ride demands it. I found that troubling, specially with her super religious background, the main reason she ran away it seems.
2. She accepts her fate all to easily. It was way to easy for her to accept what happened to her. She did not question it much and did not ask the many questions I had on my head as soon as she finds what is happening to her.
It was short and maybe if there was more story to the book a lot of this questions would be answered.
Homeless and at the end of her rope, Mary is sure life couldn’t get any worse…until she is attacked by a bear in this riveting paranormal romance.
Not believing that she survived the bear attack Mary is scared and ready to run and the reader can’t help but get caught up in the confusion and excitement as Jackson works to convince her to stay. The attraction between Mary and Jackson burn hot but the relationship has a minor obstacle…her bear is angry and wants nothing to do with Jackson and the emotional anxiety that Mary suffers captures the heart while Jackson’s sexy alpha bear personality makes the heart pound. The fast paced and smooth flowing plot keeps anticipations high with suspense, turmoil and romance while spine tingling tension builds throughout the story as Mary tries to adjust to her new life while knowing that the bear that attacked her is still out there. The well written scenes and details bring the story to life and the suspenseful events ensure that the readers want to know everything which means of course that they are going to come back for more especially after that adrenaline spiking cliffhanger.
Title : Forbearance Book 1 Author : Claudia M. Farwell Reviewed by : Stephanie Jordan ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ This is the first book I've read by this author and I am not disappointed at all. I'll be reading more from this author Ms. Farwell is a very talented writer, just can't wait to read Forbearance Book 2 Mary lived in a abusive house for many year, until one day she said no more and climbed out her bedroom window took off running and never looked back. Being homeless, eating out of trash cans wasn't the kind of life Mary wanted to live, but you take what you get and make the best of what you can. Hitching ride is the only way Mary could travel to another town, it's just that it always came with a price and tonight was worse than ever. Mary was attacked a big bear was slicing her open, he took her leg and sliced her to the bone. Mary knew she was going to die. Jackson knew he had to get Mary out of the hospital before she changed. That's right before she shifted to a bear. He also needed to make sure the Grizzly that mauled Mary didn't get her again cause he was coming for her. I was gifted this ARC for an honest and truthful review.
Mary has had it hard and been on the run for a long time, then she gets attacked by a grizzly bear, not fun. She awakens in a hospital and is whisked away by Jackson, a hunky bear Alpha, to his home. He explains all to her and wonders if she will be able to handle all the changes coming her way. I like the way this story sets up there is good action and story enough to keep you turning the pages. Sadly it's a serial, fortunately, it's interesting and now I am impatiently awaiting the next installment because I need to know what's in store for this couple. I also want to see more of Jackson's brothers. This is my first read by author Claudia M. Farwell but I'm looking forward to more. I was provided a copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review.
Mary has been on her own for years it seems. It comes all crashing down around her one night. A bear comes outta nowhere and mauls her and kills the guy she was with. Jackson tries to her figure out her beary side now. Gets her out of the hospital with just blind trust. Finding out she is a were bear now is throwing her for a loop too. But now with her first shift looming ahead of her and this attraction to Jackson. Will she be able to control herself and learn all she needs too? Will she want to stay and be the queen bear of their clan.
I am wavering between 3.5 and 4 stars for this review rating. I enjoyed reading this book, in fact I read it one sitting. It was fast paced and the action and adventure started immediately. There are some truly unique aspects to this book. I won't go into too much detail, for the sake of spoiling the book. Mary ran away from her home at the age of 15, and has been living on the streets ever since. She does what she needs in order to survive, to get from one town to the next. During her most recent travels she is brutally mauled by a bear. Mary thought she was as good as dead, but she finds herself waking up in a hospital bed, the first real bed she has slept in in far too long. Enter Jackson. I am going to put this out there; reading first person is not really my thing, especially from two separate points of view. It took me a little while to get used to. There were some points in which it was unclear which character's perspective I was reading. Jackson and Mary are both dominant characters, both unsure and scared of what will come. They have overlapping similarities without enough discernible qualities to make their points of view different from one another. Although after reading and getting to know Jackson a little better it did become a lot easier for me to distinguish between the two. As I continued reading, I was flying through the pages, lost in Mary and Jackson's struggles and was disappointed when it ended, I wanted more of these two, I wanted to find out what was going to happen next. Over all I enjoyed this book.
A joy to read. The twist is satisfying, the writing a fun romp through easy magical romance without too much thought tonmuddy the absolute fun of this story. I'm excited for the next two. A quick read that was fun cover to cover. I applaud the author.
This is the first book I’ve read by this author and I’m happy there are already a few titles in the backlist to catch up on. The first installment of this shifter series introduces Mary who is travelling across the country by foot. Through a series of events she finds herself recovering from a bear attack and surprisingly, healing quickly. Healing much too quickly than normal. Her confusion deepens after meeting Jackson, her only visitor at the hospital. What brought him to her and why? Alarmed by his revelations, and not sure what she should do, she puts her faith in the handsome stranger to help her. Is he a knight in shining armour or has she made yet another mistake?
I enjoyed this introduction to the series. It was well-written, had an interesting premise and flowed really well. It was a solid, steamy read even though I had a few reservations. Mary doesn’t have a last name, false or otherwise, which is a reflection of detail I am hoping will be revealed as the serial progresses. She, Jackson and the other clan members are interesting but I feel like I only know them superficially. Mary escaped a troubled home and has been homeless for years but I don’t understand why that is. She is no longer a minor so any repercussions for having run away as a teenager should be long behind her. Is she avoiding regular employment and not establishing a home because there is more she is fearful of? Why are Jackson and his clan members established where they are? What do they do for a living? How did they all get together? The author did a great job piquing my interest and I look forward to the progression of the story and finding out more. The end of the story is not kindle-throwing worthy – thank goodness – and there are definitely questions still to be answered. Bring on the next book!
Thank you to the author who provided a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Forbearance-Book 1- Is the birth of a unique captivating romantic shifter series. I dote series; the anticipation for the next book leaves you something to look forward to especially in the world of SHIFTERS.
This story features Mary, a sexy, audacious, clever, independent, beautiful woman {grizzly bear}; Jackson, a sultry, gorgeous, strapping grizzly bear shifter and Alpha of his bear clan.
AN OUTCAST GRIZZLY SHIFTER BITE CATAPULTS MARY INTO A WHOLE NEW WAY OF LIVING...
The cast of characters are powerful, impressive and engaging, the banter superb, scene descriptions are thrilling and vivid, pent-up desires, life threatening incidents, a horrific death, camaraderie, heart-wrenching moments, gripping suspense, sky-rocketing earth-shattering pulsating romance, and an ending leaving you wanting to know the answers you hunger for....
INCREDIBLE fast paced exhilarating well written read by a gifted author. Mary faces many challenges but her courage prevails. Jackson's devotion spirals as he and his clan search for the outcast bear. The fusion of authenticity and fantasy make the story more fierce and impressive. A most gratifying read-I doted it, and I certainly can't wait for next book in this outstanding series. If you enjoy shifter romance with suspense and spicy romance; this is definitely a terrific series for your library. In the world of shifter romance the possibilities are illimitable but always fascinating. {I received an arc for a thoroughly veracious review}. Without reservations I highly recommend this book and the series...

Mary ran away from an abusive home and has been homeless for years. She's hitching a ride to her next destination, when they make a stop. The last thing she expects is to be attacked by a huge bear. When she wakes she's in hospital, but to her surprise she's almost healed from been ripped apart. Mary is scared and wants to run. But instead waiting for her is a man named, Jackson.
Jackson is a Grizzly, his alpha, his powerful and his protective. He lives in an abandoned summer camp with his five clan brothers. Jackson wants Mary to stay with him so he can help her with her change. He doesn't understand why his so drawn to her but there isn't time to worry about that now. The outcast Grizzly who attacked Mary is still out there and no doubt he'll be looking for her.
I found book 1 interesting and entertaining. The concept of this story was different to others I've read but I really liked it. The characters were really likable, especially Mary whose feistiness and strong will came across perfectly. However, my issues with book 1 are that there wasn't much background information on all the clan characters and the main characters, Jackson and Mary were a little dull and their relationship seemed to lack emotion at times. And when Jackson goes to the hospital to see Mary, you can understand he saw her attack in the media but it doesn't tell you how he knew that the bear that attacked Mary was a shifter. Other that those issues the book was really enjoyable!

7 years have passed since mary ran away from home, escaping her highly religious and controlling parents, or rather mother. life on the streets isn't easy and once more a driver has picked her up expecting to be paid the "natural" way. she's dreading the pay back but, sadly it's something she's grown accustomed too over the years. now at 22 years old she fears her life is over when the driver pulled over and wanted his payback. only to be rudely ripped away from her and being torn to pieces by what appears to be a huge rabid grizzly bear. after the driver is taken care of the bear goes after her, slashing her stomach from left to right and tearing up her whole leg. last thing she knows is losing herself to the darkness. big is her surprise as she wakes up in a hospital, relatively in good shape. convinced she's been out of it for days or that she should have been dead, she's more then surprise to see her wounds aren't as bad as they should be. in comes jackson, convincing her she has to leave the hospital right away, trying his best to convince that her attack wasn't normal and that to be safe she has to trust him and leave with him ASAP. from one day to another she enters a whole new world. shifting animals, shifting bears, no less. the eminent change won't be easy, nor will be the battle with her bear. who will win that battle? will his clan accept her? will she accept her bear and vice versa? will she rip jackson apart? well written, fast paced, nice chemistry and conflict throughout the story.
I was given an ARC by the author for an honest review.
Mary has run away from home since she was 15 now she travels around the world getting help from anyone that is willing to help her in any way they are willing to help her. While on the road the driver asks for some reward for helping her and when they get down to it they are both attacked by a bear.
Waking up in the hospital she gets a visit from a stranger who tells her that she was bitten by a bear shifter and she is about to turn into one.
Jackson has his own little clan and when he is called in to save a new turned bare shifter he is not much of a happy guy....until up the moment he meets her. Till now he had given up on meeting a shifter lady cause simply there are none..but Mary is a beautiful woman,a shifter and more important a Grizzly just like him.
Can they teach Mary how to shift and how to control her bear? Will they be able to find the Outcast who bit Mary ? Will Mary's bear accept Jackson???
A sweet story that for some weird reason reminded me of Snowhite and the 7 dwarfs but instead of dwarfs there were bears. Also for some weird reason while reading the book i understood that the main character's name is not Mary and it boggles me. I feel that this first part of the book left me with much things hanging and the end felt like a wrap up that is confusing...not a cliff hanger exactly but not an ending either.
It can be an amazing story and i can't wait to see how it will develop down the road.
Mary found herself facing death and being attacked by a bear. This attack would change her life forever. She would have to live with being a were-bear. Would she be able to keep the bear at bay and not attack a person? Would she be able to tame the bear that is inside her?
I love the fact that the author made Mary a strong character. So many times in books you find the female character weak and does not met the image you would picture with a strong male character. You will find Mary not only strong head and full of spirit, but you will find her full of courage. She is a person that will face her fears head on. I so admire Mary and the strength she shown. She is a true survivor.
Jackson finds he and his bear long for Mary. She is everything he dreams of. The one problem he is having is Mary’s bear seems to hate him. When he gets near her the bear within her gets angry. Will Mary and Jackson be able to sooth the angry bear? Will Mary’s bear be able to except the bear clan?
This is a great book. One of my loves is shifter books and the author has done an amazing job writing this book. I am so looking forward to the next book and highly recommend this book to anyone who loves shifter books. You will not be disappointed.
Mary has lead a rough life, escaping from abusive parents at 15 she has spent the last seven years on the road being as invisible as possible praying to never be returned to her former home. One night in Wyoming fate catches up with her, at a secluded rest stop she is attacked by a bear, she is sure she is going to die as she passes out but surprisingly she awakes in the hospital, strangely she is not as badly injured as everyone thought, or is it accelerated healing? To add to her confusion the nurse says her “cousin” is there to visit, but she has none. Jackson seems to think she and everyone else on the floor are in danger and he also seems to know much more about what is going on with her then he should. Despite her reservations she goes with him only to find out she is now a were-bear and so is he. She has a hard time believing it at first but comes to terms, Jackson and his clan help her through her first change and start learning to control her bear. They also protect her from the rogue bear that attacked her and other clans as she is a one of a kind female shifter, not to mention Jackson wants her! Well written and engaging story with memorable characters; really looking forward to next installment!
I received an advance copy for an honest review. And I liked it very much. The story starts out with the heroine, Mary. Now Mary is a strange woman. She has been backpacking since she was 15 years old. She is jaded, hard, and tired of being on the road. She has learned not trust anyone. She hitches a ride from strange man. She had learned that no one gives her anything for free. He pulls over to a rest area for his carnal reward. This is where the Fates steps in. The man that gave her a ride is killed by a large bear. She runs and the bear attacks her. When she awakes she is in the hospital. Now enters the hero, Jackson. He has to convince Mary to leave the hospital with him. She has been bitten by a werebear. She is going to change in a matter of hours. I loved the main characters Mary and Jackson. Both are strong and believe characters. They both have that longing to belong. There story is a series. The ending is good. But you can tell that there is more to come. This book is a quick and easy read and very enjoyable. Looking forward to next part of this story.
I enjoyed this quick easy read that didn't feel rushed or lacking in any way...unless you count it ending right when I wanted to know what was going to happen next! lol Note: it is a multi-part serial so I consider it a cliff-hanger as there is the beginnings of an HEA but there is not yet an ending to the conflict as the rogue Grizzly is still on the loose.
Mary is homeless after running away from her family seven years ago. Living life on the road and without a car, she's forced to accept rides from less-than-desirable men. During one such encounter she is attacked by an animalr but manages to survive...much to everyone's surprise.
Jackson, a very hot and sexy Alpha bear-shifter, shows up in her hospital room and informs her she was attacked by a Grizzly bear shifter and that since she survived, she was now one as well. He takes her back to his clan where she meets the other bears under his rule and they help her start to deal with her changed reality.
I think anyone who enjoys shifter romances will enjoy this one. I hope book two will be just as exciting and interesting.
*I received an ARC from the author for an honest review.*
Every book I read of Ms. Farwell's just gets better and better. This is not your typical curvy girl meets shifter and falls under his spell. This has a very serious undertones.
Mary has wandered homeless on her own for years. She's tough, but even she can't fight a bear attack. She doesn't die, but a hunky guy spreads dire warnings that she has to leave the hospital with him NOW.
She doesn't easily trust, however he gives her enough to frighten her for the people around her. She leaves with Jackson to figure out what her life will be like.
Will she give up her wandering for Jackson and his clan of sexy guys? Or will she leave unable to trust? Will she have a chance to make that decision or will danger win out and threaten her safety?
This new series has me impatient for more. I strongly recommend it to any shifter lover and those who enjoy watching strength win out even with little encouragement from life.
Mmmmmm, I'm torn between how many stars to rate this book. It's more than 3 but not quite 4 for me, more a 3.8 Mary is attacked by what turns out to be a bear shifter and discovers that not only is she now going to turn into a bear but she is the only female bear that they know off. Jackson is the shifter hunk of a man determined to keep Mary safe and at the same time protect people from Mary while she learns to Control what she now is. There is a mutual attraction but will Mary's new bear be able to accept jackson and will the rogue that turned her come looking for her ? If you dislike series because of cliff hangers then fear not, this book does not end on a cliff hanger but does leave you wondering what happens next ! This story doesn't have a taxing plot, is a quick easy read and all in all I think it is a good start to a new series but I hope to see a bit more drama and excitement in book 2. I received an arc in exchange for an honest review
#1 in the serial Novella "Forbearance". Please note.. this is the first part of the serial novella series. Written in first person, told from the perspective of the two main characters, Mary and Jackson. A quick read, less than a 100 pages, but it is packed full of drama, with a strong heroine, interesting characters, Bear shifters, and romance. Well written! This is my first reading this author and was impressed with her writing style. It was easy to follow, the characters are enjoyable and the storyline was unique. While, I don't usually enjoy serials, can't wait to read the rest of the story, I did enjoy "Forbearance". I look forward to the next installment. Fans of Serials, Paranormal Romance, and Shapeshifters are sure to enjoy this interesting read. An enjoyable and satisfying read!

**I received an ARC of this story in exchange for an honest review Mary has been homeless and on the run for 7 years. Her life has been crappy from the beginning and it doesn't seem to be getting better any time soon. One night when she hitches a ride, she and the driver are attacked by a bear. Somehow she survives. When a hot mystery man shows up at the hospital, he convinces her to go with him. Now he must convince her he's telling her the truth and that she should stay with him. I wasn't really sure what I was expecting when I signed up to read this story. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it. You can almost feel Mary's lack of trust and just bone-deep weariness and harsh reality of her life. She's used to no enjoyment in life, but one side effect of this latest disaster is that with Jackson, she's able to enjoy a number of things for the first time. I can't wait to read more from this author.
This was a great start to a new series. The heroine was strong and sassy, even when she wasn't in a position to be... I would like to hear more about her past and I'm excited to read about what happens in her future in the next book!! And now a bit about the story...
Mary left home at the young age of 15 and survived on the streets the best she could. Now 7 years later, she is still hitching from town to town trying to survive. All of that changes one night when trying to exchange services with a stranger at a rest stop -- her driver and her get attacked by a bear. Her survival has put her in danger and Jackson, the alpha of the nearest pack and another stranger, is asking her to trust him to save her.
Favorite passages: - “And now I have to live in a fucking abandoned summer camp with a bunch of dude-bears!” - “I want you to think of this cabin as home.”
I enjoyed the story of Mary. She is a young woman who in trying to escape an abusive situation at home ends up in even more danger. She flees her parents at the age of 15 due to severe abuse. Seven years later she is still on the run with no home. She often finds herself having to rely on men for transportation who then demand a payment. During one of those situations, there is an attack. Mary wakes up in a hospital and faces some very frightening news about what has happened to her and has to adjust to a whole new life. She has to choose to trust people again to get her thru the transformation. This book takes a different direction than many of the other books featuring shifters and I am very interested in seeing where the story goes. She faces a lot of danger ahead. I received an ARC from the author in return for an honest review.
by the end of this book I was totally being for more but to be honest the beginning was hard not because it wasn't good it was because my heart just broke for what Mary had gone through. hearing her struggles to make it through life I immediately thought what would I do if I were on my own at that young of an age but her strength was amazing. the story is really good as we follow Mary trying to make it through life getting to one city to the next relying on the kindness and sometimes horrible meanness that we find her trapped in until the bear attacks and she survives. now infected by this rogue bear Jackson a sexy alpha of the nearest bear clan comes to her rescue and may have possibly found his mate but the rogue is hot on their trail and now we must wait for book two to find out what happens. ... yes I literally yelled out Noooo!
Mary has been homeless for the last seven years living on her wits a lone and sometimes doing things she would rather not. When she is attacked by a rouge bear shifter, her life as she knew it was over. Jackson finds out about the bear attack and comes to get her out of the hospital before anyone notices the changes in Mary. When he takes her to meet his clan and to help her wither first shift, Jackson and his bear becomes very interested in Mary and her bear. Mary is scared but she puts on a brave face as she faces her new life, but someone is hunting Mary and Jackson will stop at nothing to help her. This book does end on a cliffhanger so if you are not a fan I would wait till all of the books are out.
