Four hundred years in the future, Captain Katana Krieger and USS Yorktown are assigned to transport a political delegation to make first contact with a newly discovered alien race. Excitement and adventure ensue. This is not intended to be great literature, it’s just intended to be a fun read. Violence, an adult innuendo or two, and an occasional “frak,” otherwise fine for fun lovers of all ages.
Length: Rounded off: 2001: A Space Odyssey is 70,000 words. The Forever War is 81,000 words. The Hobbit is 97,000 words. Libor is 106,000 words. Ender’s Game is 107,000 words. Game of Thrones is 300,000 words. This is a real novel, but not an epic one.
Bill Robinson is a short story writer of strange computer fiction, including the only two intentional works of fiction ever published by Network World, "The Tolkien Ring Network," and "The Ether Strikes Back." His first novel, Intention, and it’s sequel, Destination, are apparently the most read grown up superhero novels for the Kindle.
Definite improvement over the first, expanding on what was established in book 1. Like a lot of military SF, characterization / emotion is weak, but the story is good. The bad guys are not straw men motivated by an irrational suicidal hatred of the MC, but actually have reasons for what they do. Like any good space opera, it combines action, intrigue, diplomacy, swashbuckling, and some romance.
I gave Libor five stars because it accomplished what Bill intended, to write a fun, engaging and exciting story. I like the characters, reading this second story was like visiting friends. Libor expands the universe Bill created in the first book. My only complaint is that it ended... almost in mid-sentence! ...what happens next?!? I understand he had to break somewhere. I'm looking forward to reading the next installment.
A pretty good book. Picks up where the previous book left off. Pretty good action, plot, and characterizations. There were several plot twist, but also several obvious plot adaptations, but overall a good read.
Thoroughly enjoyed this book and it predecessor. I look forward to the continuation of the series. Fast paced and rather well thought out. I only out it down when I was forced to.
Really enjoyed the continued adventures of Katana Krieger and Cree. The addition of Princess bride, star wars and GoT references are a nice touch. Looking forward to the next book
