Will Franconi has a dark past that he’s kept a closely guarded secret―very few people have ever heard his real story and he plans to keep it that way. After surviving a hellish childhood, he’s now living the dream life where everything he touches turns to gold. But something’s missing. He doesn’t quite know what until a simple letter from a teenage boy brings Harper Newman into his life. A woman who just might fill up the empty places inside him…if only he could ever be worthy of her love.

When a man has more money than he could possibly spend in five lifetimes, Harper has to ask herself what Will Franconi could possibly want from a woman like her? She’s learned the hard way that rich men always get what they want no matter the cost. If it was just herself she had to worry about, Harper would manage, but she’s guardian to her younger brother who depends on her for everything. After nearly losing his life in a car crash, she’s vowed never to let anyone hurt him ever again.

Still, sometimes Harper can’t help but long to change her story from one of an always-cautious woman to an adventurous tale of a heroine who’s wild and free…especially when Will’s kisses and caresses make her utterly breathless. And as he begins to reveal his story to her, she discovers that he’s so much more than just another wealthy, privileged man. He’s kind and giving, and he fills up all the spaces inside of her heart that have been empty for so long. Together, can they rewrite their stories into a happily-ever-after that neither of them had previously thought was possible?

Will's got something up his sleeve that he hides from the world...

I have been a Bella Andre fan for years and when I heard about her working with Jennifer Skully on Breathless in Love and that there was a new series coming out I was very intrigued. Will is a self made billionaire with a love of fast cars and his car collection had been featured on a show called Hot Cars. After the show aired, he received a letter from a boy named Jeremy who loved cars and asked if he could see them. For some reason the letter touched him and he got in contact with Jeremy and set up a time to meet him. The boy turned out to be a young man of eighteen whose sister had brought him. After their initial meeting, Will realises that Jeremy is special. His sister is his carer and he is attracted to her from the first time he sees her.

Harper has been looking after Jeremy since she was 22. Both Jeremy and Harper’s parents died in a plane crash and while she doesn’t resent the task, you can tell that it is a burden. She doesn’t have time for a relationship outside of her job and looking after Jeremy. Harper has been burnt in her previous relationships by men who either wanted her to put Jeremy in care or got close to her to get access to Jeremy’s trust fund. When she meets the very handsome and sophisticated Will, she doesn’t think she’s even close to being up to his standards…but she can’t deny she’s attracted to him.

Will had led a very hard and dangerous life up till he was 16. His father was not a good man and was now serving time in jail. His foster parents, Susan and Bob, help him get past his rough start and guide him in changing his attitude and making better choices. While in foster care he formed an attachment to his foster brothers and they called themselves The Maverick Group. Even though Will turns his life around for the better, he still sees himself as a bad person and doesn’t think he’s lovable.

This story mainly revolves around the journey both Harper and Will must take to learn to trust each other. Theirs is not an easy road as they must take Jeremy’s best interests into consideration. Harper is very over-protective and Will teaches her to loosen her control a little to give Jeremy a chance to become independent.

I did enjoy this story. The characters were lovable and the storyline kept my interest from start to finish. There is a decent amount of steam between Harper and Will and we can see the connection forming from the very beginning. I did find that the drama and issues were probably blown up more than they should have been and Harper’s over-reaction to certain things did make me frustrated with her.

Breathless in Love is the first in the series and I’m pretty sure another Maverick, Sebastian, is up next.

I liked the writing, the storyline and the characters, yet the slow burn romance didn’t excite me.
In the future I will give a chance to the next part.

Note for fans of Bella's SULLIVANS series:
I first wrote about The Maverick Group in "Come A Little Bit Closer" (Smith Sullivan's book) and then again in "One Perfect Night" (Colbie and Noah's book). I have wanted to write the Maverick's love stories for years and couldn’t be happier about getting to finally write each emotional, sexy story with my good friend, Jennifer Skully, who also happens to be one of my favorite writers. I hope you absolutely love Will & Harper's romance! <3 Bella

Just WOW ....The Maverick Billionaires series is starting out with a fireworks display that will leave you breathless.

I want to share something about myself before I review this story for you.

I AM a Harper Newman.

And now ... on with my review ...

The Mavericks Group is a group of men...Daniel, Sebastian, Evan, Matt, and Will, who picked themselves up from the bottom of the bottom and made a name for themselves. As children, they where brought together by trouble, neglect and misfortune. From despair they created a new identity and definition for themselves and an indestructible bond ... they were family. Their pasts are dark, tortured and twisted. Their childhood was not a fairytale. Far from it. But they vowed to be better than their past. Breathless In Love is the story of Will Franconi.

Will Franconi spent the better part of the last two decades running from his past but at the same time making sure he never forgot a single moment. Because if he let himself forget, then he might believe. And if he believed, he could be destroyed. Because he defined himself by his past. And his past was a tortured twisted mess of neglect, deceit, bullying, and criminal activity as a child. Because of this, he defined himself as undeserving. But that was then and this is now. And even though it is two decades later, Will still does not believe ...Until Harper and Jeremy Newman.

Harper and Jeremy are a package deal. Jeremy is Harper's younger brother. Eleven years ago, Jeremy suffered irreparable brain damage when he was struck by a car while on his bicycle. And today he is an eighteen year old with the mentality of a seven year old. Although Jeremy is a high functioning member of society, he will never be able to fully function without assistance. So Harper and Jeremy are a package deal. A forever package. From the moment Will set eyes on Harper and Jeremy, he knew he wanted to be part of that package. Jeremy gave him purpose. Harper gave him hope. Hope in a future not defined by his past. Together, Jeremy & Harper just might help Will ... BELIEVE .

This story was not only written perfectly, it was told flawlessly. Bella Andre and Jennifer Skully made sure to paint a picture true to life. The hurdles and difficulties surrounding Jeremy and Harper's lives were well thought out and realistically portrayed. Will's relations with Jeremy were natural and believable. The chemistry between Harper and Will exploded off the pages. Will opened up a place inside Harper she thought was locked forever and Harper shattered a notion Will had been holding on to for way too long. The three of them were kismet!!

This is not just a romance story. It's a story of redemption and forgiveness. It's a story of family, love and friendship. It's a story of HOPE.

I shared the pic above with only one thought. I wanted you, as future readers, to see the truth in my words when I tell you that this is a beautiful story written correctly and true to life. I know this because I AM a Harper Newman. Every moment, every incident and every plot twist was perfectly executed. This story will break your heart but it will also make you smile and laugh. And if you too are a Harper Newman, it will help YOU believe. #TRUST

1,5 stars rounded up to 2

This book was my first from Bella Andre and although it may be a decent book, sadly, it is a snooze-fest. I skipped tons of pages and still missed nothing much.

description

Harper has a brother who needs special care as he had some brain damage after a traffic accident. The guys who she dated all disappointed her with regards to her brother and now she is too cautious.

Will is a self-made billionaire. He had made mistakes while he was a teenager that he still cannot forgive himself for but he has found the right way and now he is a man really too good to be true.

It’s just Harper’s worries that make the whole book 277 pages. Nothing much happens. The whole thing is about Will trying to prove how much he cares for Harper and her brother and Harper resisting him, not quite trusting him. She has sex with him, though, but then again she thinks it is a temporary affair and he will get tired of her so she retreats into her own cocoon after every time they get close.

It is a vicious cycle for a long while.

*********************************************

The writing is in the 3rd person point of view. It is a style I don't like. Still, it didn't bother me that much; however, it is too repetitive. The writer paraphrases the feelings and worries of the characters and serves the same thing again and again. I had so many moments of "Enough already!" and then I resorted to skipping pages, of course...

The writing itself makes the book a yawn-fest. It is too much telling and not enough showing. It is full of pages and pages of inner monologues. If you skip 5 or 10 pages, believe me you won't miss anything.

*********************************************

The book didn't make me feel. I didn’t feel why and how Will fell in love with her at first sight. I didn’t feel their connection or their chemistry. Even the sex scenes were too boring for me.

*********************************************

Harper’s brother Jeremy is a sweet boy, I liked him. I also liked Will as he was such a perfect guy but I never liked Harper. She was annoying most of the time.

*********************************************

It is an uneventful book, there is no plot-twist or something. Only a minor problem occurs and it is solved quickly. Therefore, the book is the telling of a slowly developing relationship and it is all about earning trust. As he is “perfect”, he finally wins the girl’s heart.

*********************************************

The Epilogue is terrible. It is all about the next book’s main character and it prepares the reader for the next book. I hate it when writers do that.

*********************************************

I am quitting the series here as obviously, this writer’s writing makes me bored and sleepy.

The most important thing I have to say about this book is that I thought the narrator was AWESOME!!!

Otherwise - meh - I was kind of bored. The heroine annoyed me a bit but not so much that I disliked her. Will was awesome. But I felt he was too beta for me. I needed him more assertive. Pushing her boundaries more.

The drama at the end was short lived - thank goodness! That would have made me dislike the heroine.

Incredibly safe book.

Will Franconi is a man running from his past and trying to escape the things he has done. He grew up with a criminal of a father and learned the criminal life from him. But he got out of that life and made a name for himself. He now has more money than he knows what to do with and a successful business. When Will gets a letter from, what he assuming to be, a little boy wanting to look at his car collection, he's excited to show off his cars. He never expected to show up and see a sexy woman standing there with a teenager.

Harper Newman has spent her adult like taking care of her younger brother, Jeremy, who was in an accident when he was seven and suffered brain damage. Jeremy's has a body of an older teenager but still the mental capacity of a seven year old. She lost her parents at a young age and since then has been responsible for herself and Jeremy. When she meets Will she never expected to have a connection with him and to want to be crazy and wild with him.

Breathless In Love is a sweet loving story that will give you the feels, and may make you cry. I loved the characters and how well they suited each other. Harper and Will worked really well together and you could feel the love pouring off the pages. Will didn't feel like he was worthy of Harper since he had a past that wasn't so great, but Harper never let him leave her and wouldn't let him get sucked into his past. After they started their relationship they both went all in and there was no doubting each other.

Harper was an amazing character and I admired everything she did for her brother. She worked hard to support him and give him a good life where he felt like he belonged. Will only had to meet Jeremy once to know he was a kid worth loving and he automatically got invested in Jeremy's life and well being. He was so sweet with Jeremy and caring, it was a real great thing to see how accepting he was of Jeremy. I loved all the characters, especially Jeremy since he was so sweet and didn't have a bad bone in his body. The fact that people would be mean to him broke my heart. All around this book was making my emotions go all over the place.

I can already tell that this will be another great series by Bella Andre and I can't wait to get more of it. This is the first book I've read from Jennifer Skully but I will definitely be checking out her other books. Overall, I loved this book and everyone that likes a sweet story with some amazing characters should check it out.

Rating: 2.5 stars to Breathless in Love

Authors Bella Andre and Jennifer Skully combine forces to bring us a contemporary romance between a self-sabotaging, self-made billionaire who deems himself unworthy of candid love and a wary caregiver of common sense and good reason who has abandoned any desire to lead a life of security ever since tragedy had her responsible for her mentally challenged younger brother.

With financial success exploding from all pores, Will has everything he'll ever need, but there's a gaping something that craves the meaningful, and it's pronounced enough that he's taking notice. So when he meets Harper through a charitable deed that sees him presenting his expansive car collection to Harper's disabled brother, Jeremy, he knows what's missing from his life.

Harper doesn't expect such a wealthy man of looks and fortune to be so down to earth, so Will seems like an untouchable dream, but when he takes her for a drive of breathless speed, he touches on the inner speed vixen that craves the spontaneity of letting go, blossoming within her another kind of speedy risk that cajoles her latent wishes, a risk that looks very much like the handsome man of wealth in the driver's seat.

It's been 20 years since Will starved his demons from the desires that could have ruined him and speed presents danger but also encapsulates the thrill of living, and he'll do anything to keep Harper apart from those demons. A little risk at times makes life worth it and offers a lot more to live for.

The title itself lines up really well with the romatic concept and I liked the sentiment of the story, but truth be told i'm struggling with the kind of mental fatigue that makes stories like this one really hard to enjoy. In fact, i'm really hesitant to read anything because i know i'm just not primed enough to enjoy anything at the moment :(

Is it me? Is it the book? In all sincerity, i think it's definitely both, but let's talk a bit about why the book earned 2.5 stars. I felt really misplaced reading this and i coudn't find a happy seat to sit in as i watched everything play out. In the nicest possible way, this was just very underwhelming, repetetive and non-descript, and i didn't care about what was happening. I only really cared about joyous Jeremy and i looked forward to his scenese mostly.

As well as that, the long scripts of repetetive internal jibber jabber stifled any good flowering pace because there was too much thinking and not enough doing which drew out the long pieces of narrative unnecessarily. There's a strong imbalance here where not enough is happening outside of their heads, or perhaps the narration suggests this because it's too wordy, and when the narrative is too wordy, it doesn't offer the kind of cruising pace that moves the reader along with the story.

The story felt a bit too much like the Harper and Will show. While there were other characters such as the Mavericks and Jeremy, the focus was drilled on both Harper and Will, and truth be told it needed more than that.

What i did love about this story was sweet, full-of-life Jeremy! With such a bright spirit, an enthusiasm for life and experience makes him both a wonder and full of so much heart. He's the kind of treasure that makes life seem worth living and believing in. I love his bright, fathomless vitality and inclination to always choose the best out of any bad. He's just so bare with excitment it's contagious! :D

Because this was condensed with repetition and because it was fairly uneventful, it ended up being a slow and stodgy read for me. Though i say that, this book does have a line up of great reviews and ratings, so i'd still give it a try if it seems like a bit of you!

Trigger Warning: Sex scenes, mentions miscarriage and suicide.

First of all, I've read everything by Bella Andre and absolutely fell in love with her books. To be honest, I've never read anything by Jennifer Skully, but I'll definitely be checking her out now! I fell in love with these characters and just wanted to reach into the pages and hug them. Seriously. I don't give recaps of books, because you can read the blurb to get that. I will say that Will.... whew.... delayed gratification and all that. But when things started heating up, they blew off the charts. I can't wait to read more of this series and the Maverick brothers. I really liked how they were introduced throughout the book, so there's already a little backstory waiting for me. I liked the twists and turns in the book and the action was constantly moving things forward. There was never a dull moment anywhere, when I wanted to put the book down, so don't start this one late at night. I loved Jeremy, Harper's little brother. Even he had growth in the story! Amazing!! Definite 5 star read! And the disclaimer: I was given an ARC for an honest review... and this is honest--I LOVED it!!

I haven’t read anything by Jennifer Skully before but I’ve pretty much read every book Bella Andre has written so I was curious to see what this new series would be like.

BREATHLESS IN LOVE is the first book in the Maverick Billionaire series. Now if you’ve read Andre’s Sullivans’ series then you are probably familiar with her overachieving fun-loving family. I strongly feel that this series will have the same tone and style. You can definitely see Andre’s touch with the heroes at least because WILL IS SO CHARMING AND SWOON-WORTHY!!

Will Franconi not only has heavy pockets, but he is also a woman’s dream come true. He likes fast cars, is incredibly patient and considerate and he has no problem apologizing if he steps over a line. That man is hard to find and it’s probably what makes this book so good. I’m betting all the heroes in this series will be amazing and that is why I’m getting ahead of the game here and claiming them all. So back off, the Maverick Billionaires are mine!

In addition to the great hero, this book also has a fantastic heroine. Harper has lived a very hard life. Her brother might be a teenage but after a car accident that caused some brain trauma, he still has the mind of a seven year old. Since her parents died, Harper has been taking care of him and is loving every minute of it. But that means, she doesn’t have much time for herself.

So when Will comes into her life, charming her off her feet, their romance really feels like something out of a dream or a fantasy. It’s easy to get lost in books like these because I find them uplifting and fun, never dragging you down. That being said, this book is a quick read and is great for a weekend treat or something to take with you to the beach. I will definitely be interested to see what the other stories in the series will hold for us.

As a huge Bella Andre fan, I am really confused why this book was so B-O-R-I-N-G! There is another author's name listed along with Ms. Andre, so I'm thinking this co-author may have written most of it. Grasping at straws here because despite the classy book cover and title, the book itself was mediocre....and simply did not feel like Ms. Andre's writing style.

It was your typical rich guy thinks he isn't worthy of a nice girl because he used to be a bad boy..(stealing cars/breaking in homes/criminal father...but was eventually taken in by a good foster family)...Nice girl thinks she has no time for love as she is raising her handicapped teenage brother...Her parents were killed in a plane crash...Her brother has brain damage from getting hit by a car while riding a bike)...and besides the hero is "out of her league"....So it is "back & forth"..."back & forth"...Sadly, I found myself not caring enough to keep reading. I'm sure he continues to pursue her...and his rich ex's probably treat her like dirt...yada..yada...yada.

Hope others like it. Personally, I would recommend a re-read of one of her previous books before I would recommend a first read of this one.

I found this book boring. And the boredom stemmed from: firstly the fact that a long time was taken to present the other members of the Mavericks group and the interactions they had; secondly a lot of things seemed repetitive, and lastly there were too much time wasted inside the characters' heads (really they rumminaged A LOT) and not enough spent showing actions.

Then I had to go through pages and pages of a grown-up man lamenting over and over again about how bad he was when he was a kid and how because of that he didn't deserve the girl. Over, and over, and over, and over, well you get it. Harper on the other hand was great. She was loving, dedicated to her brother, a little afraid to trust but willing to try. And Jeremy was such a sweetheart.

This could have been a great read but Will's self pity was overkill and ruined it for me

This was great. I'm trying to make a mental list on what is working for me in my romance lately. For one the most important ingredient is dialogue and couple page time that isn't just sex. I loved that Harper and Will actually spent time getting to know each other. Dates people! I. Love books where they actually go on dates. Then of course the storyline with Jeremy just melted my heart. This had all the best ingredients and I adored it.

3.5 sweet stars. This is a traditional CR. Rich man with a dark past. Young heroine with a lot of responsibility. Living in different worlds and brought together by a sweet young man.

This is an enjoyable afternoon read. Very little angst, endearing moments and a lot of passion.

I just might have a cavity it was so sweet.

Good book! Billionaire Will and lovely Harper fall in love, which is lovely.
But, Jeremy, Harper's little brother, pulls them together. He survived an accident as a young child that left him with a learning disability. It's his inherent bubbly personality that gives the serious people around him the chance to find happiness.
I had a few times that I wanted to shake Harper, but she finally wised up in the end. Her character moved forward more than any other.

My 10 stars are for the hero!! He is bf material. Doting, caring, stubborn, sexy, faithful....
I didn't like our heroine and her hesitance. She was scalded in relationships before, she had a brother who couldn't live by himself. But girl, when someone like Will is fighting for you, grab him quickly!!

Safe read. No OP scenes. No cheating.

This was a quick read that I started last night. I loved the diversity and showing such a colourfully filled in disabled character and how they're conditions are in no way a stigma. I also liked the message of realising that it is okay to let go of things and allow them to grow independently. It spoke volumes. Will's character was a strong force in this!

Kitty's review posted at Guilty Pleasures Book Reviews

Breathless in Love is a sweet, loving and heart-warming story with three main characters that are all interesting and caring and will hold your attention from beginning to end. Personally, I absolutely fell in love with Jeremy from the beginning of the story and Will wasn't too hard to take either.

I would not say that I was surprised with this story. Bella Andre has always wrote loving stories with characters that are beautiful. Now, her collaboration with Jennifer Scully is bringing us another group of men that will steal our hearts and warm the beds in our minds.

Will's story is one from rags to riches ... working his way to the top against all odds. But, something is missing and it just may be Harper and Jeremy filling the void. Even though he does not feel that he deserves her love, respect or attention, he is determined to try to make things work. He'll have to tell her about where he came from, how he grew up, the Road Warriors ... and then she'll walk right out of his life. What would a beautiful, loving woman want with him?

Harper watched as her parents sacrificed their lives for her brother Jeremy. She knew that when they were gone, he would be her responsibility and she would do whatever it took to keep his safe and out of harms way. Past romances have taught her that they men she has dated just wanted Jeremy out of the way for one reason or another and she was definitely a package deal. But Will is just as happy being with Jeremy as he is being with her. He shows him just as much attention as he showers on her. But, when will he tire of him and walk away? What would the rich, famous, handsome Will Franconi want with her?

Jeremy's enthusiasm, fun-loving attitude, even after all that he's been through, is what kept me totally enthralled with this story. His love of cars, his love of his sister. His desire to try new things and be a man. All of it had me smiling throughout the story. He was just a burst of sunshine in a story that could have been filled with sadness. And, Will was amazing with him making Harper take a hard look at how much she has been stifling his growth.

I love Bella Andre and was looking forward to this new series and her co-writing it with Jennifer Scully. But, unfortunately, there were some inconsistencies in the storyline causing me to have to reread certain parts to make sure I understood exactly what was going on. With that said, and that being the only reason why it's not a 5 star review, I loved where they are taking us with this series. It seems like all the Maverick's have a back-story that will keep us coming back for more. Interesting stories that will have us hoping that meet that one person that fills their hearts with joy as Harper did for Will. Each one of them has gone into a different line of work and each one of them will definitely be intriguing to read.

This was an easy and light read, it did lose me in the middle, I felt it stalled a little and then we went racing towards the end of their romance. The drama with Jeremy at the end kind of improved things and forced Harper to look at a few home truths about bringing her brother up, which was good.

Now Harper and Jeremy were great, their love and affection for each other as a family was one of my favourite parts and kept me turning the pages. They shared humour, love, and true devotion and Jeremy was a standout in this whole story, he zest for life was infectious.

I struggled with Will as a character, to be honest, he kept harping on about his big secret from growing up and then when it was revealed, Harper was like all, that's ok. Just felt it was all a lot of drama over nothing.

The Maverick Billionaires series is off to an exciting start. Breathless In Love has all the things I look for as a reader of romance. Romance (of course), depth, excitement, moments that touch the heart, strong central characters and sexual chemistry. Will and Harper have each experienced life through the school of hard knocks. But they never give up and that is what makes Breathless In Love an explosive and endearing start to what looks to be an awesome series. Received an ARC of Breathless In Love (The Maverick Millionaire, #1) for an honest review.

Love with the rich and the beautiful. Sounds like 'The Sullivans' doesn't it? This was so much more, though. The story was deeper and the relationship developed over time. No I-love-you-will-you-marry-me in one week flat. The characters were fuller and the relationship more sensual and mature. Very much Skully/Haynes influence there. The disabled brother Jeremy was an absolute joy and brought the story to a richer level.

Four more 'Mavericks' to go, and I'm looking forward to them. Andre and Skully make a good writing team. Wasn't perfect, but I enjoyed it.

4.25 stars. I enjoyed this more than I thought. Will is a awesome H . He has a big generous loving heart:) Harper was a hardworking great big sister . At times I thought she wasn't giving Will enough credit but I understood.Jeremy I absolutely adored:) He was awesome! I only wished for more of an epilogue with them ( marriage and babies:). I will be looking for the next book about Sebastian and hopefully more with Will and Harper!

I tried some of Bella's books but I don't feel any connection to the stories. She have good book material for other readers to enjoy. me? I don't like the writing style, too slow and sweet for my taste..

What a shit book
Sadly I read a lot of shit books cos they're for free on iBooks and cos I guess I want to escape by reading something that lets me switch off
Trouble with these books that allow you to switch off is that they're usually really crap
