In the tangled bog city of Nannandry, Priloe Sharpe’s life is worth only what his pick-pocketing skills can buy him. The entire planet of Grünholtz is now one big colonization failure and run completely by rival gangs. Hope of a better life is nonexistent - until the day off-worlders show up in the marketplace with a shiny piece of tech, which Priloe artfully snags. In a race for his life, Priloe must save his sister and somehow leave the planet, risking everything for a new life in the cloud city of Léger Nuage.
Cutpurse introduces Privateer Tales fans to the Tipperary Solar System where Liam Hoffen and his crew plan to make their new home and where they will start a whole new set of adventures. In the tradition of McFarlane’s novellas, Cutpurse provides background and intersecting story line for the next Privateer’s story. Where are Liam and his crew – and will they arrive to save the day?
A nice short story, but its connection to the main series was a bit tenuous. The timeline for the story also confused me, because the only mention of Tabby seemed to imply she was uninjured, which would mean this happened after book 7 Out of the Tank. In fact I'm not sure where this fits into the timeline as Lena now seems to own a restaurant.

I have just read Buccaneers (Book 8) and this short story doesn't match the blurb; 'Cutpurse provides background and intersecting story line for the next Privateer’s story' No it doesn't, it's over three quarters of the way through Buccaneers until there is a slight connection and in many ways this story 'spoils' the beginning of Buccaneers. This is annoying! Because of this I have also reduced my rating down to 2 stars.
A surprising book that reaffirms that good things do happen to good people. Introduced to two new winsome characters and learning more about Jenny and Jack. I hope all four are included in upcoming stories of this excellent series.
This novella/short story covers life on a world outside our solar system. The main cast is in the book, but not as the main character. It makes for a change, and one I actually enjoyed reading. There is a time jump in this book, but not all that much. Tabby is there with legs and an arm, so she must have gone through her re growth already.
I fully expected to dislike this one, but it wasn't as bad as I normally find them. It served an important purpose of showing human life on another world outside of our solar system. This was something I was waiting for, and something I felt the series needed. Now that the door is open, I just hope more books take the new setting expansion into account and we get more from the other systems.
Nice story with a bit of a obvious ending , a little slow to start with and as always the problem with this size of story its over quite quick. Main characters are quite appealing and the story is reminscient of Oliver Twist but more modernised and appealing to the YA groups. Narrator Laurel is quite good once you get used to her style. I listen at quite a fast pace but even at speed of 1 i found her quite fast, other listeners may want to move her between 0.8 to 0.9. for optimal enjoyment. Depth of her performance and range does fit the storyline quite well overall however. Overall i found the story fairly worthwhile and i would checkout more of the authors work on audible and ebook
This was more of a novella. It took a minute to get a feel for the new characters and their world. But once it tied them into the Privateer Tales story I enjoyed meeting them and their storyline. The main characters are a young orphan boy and his younger sister. They live in a harsh environment in very Dickens like world of thieves and pickpockets ruled by a ruthless leader. The boy steals a weapon from some offworld visitors and this leads to a run in with his leader. To escape he and his sister stolaway on a ship that takes them to the space station above. The main story involves them trying to find a safe place to live while avoiding the leader and her henchmen.
Didn't like it. Not my genre. Read passages all over the book thinking it would fit in the "Privateer Tales" as the title claims, but I only found one minor character from the series represented. I like future, far away space related sci-fi and this was like, I don't know, maybe forest fae? Maybe it'll tie in later and I'll return. For now I want to know what's up with Tab's legs and next book promises some of that.
Okay, is this my week for novellas masqueraded as novels? 3 under 100 pages, and I feel cheated on every one because I felt like the story was just getting good. This is the second in the Privateer Tales series to weigh in so small. Great story, great development but it still left me hanging. What is the crew going to do with a thief? (Hobbit/Lord of the Rings comes to mind...we need a burglar).
Wonderful story of abandoned children fighting back and redemption.
Totally different story from the others in this series. It has you along for the ride, fighting back to a better life for this young bother and sister. Our normal group of adventurers step in to help, because it is the right thing to do.
This is the low point of the first 7 books. A weak plot with paper thin characters. A throw away story... I'm sure the new characters will resurface... but they feel ripped off from Dickenson. A poor story and worth skipping.
Another side story that I think would be better read later after the main story deals with these events. Again I think the author would be better off incorporating this directly into the main novels.
As always I like the writing style a lot! Even with a different pov it still comes together well. It just seems to be a very quick read or not as many words to call a book? Now excuse me. I have to grab the next one!
Evil criminal trying to corrupt imprison young people into her gang. Young youth trying to keep little sister from made slave. Loose nuts to the rescue.
Nice introduction of a new pair of characters. I enjoyed the short story and did not want to put it down as I wE interrupted by visitors. Read it and enjoy it.
I have not reviewed a book in a long time. This is a very entertaining series of stories so far. I'm going to start number 7 and am looking forward to the rest of them.
This book gives some good fuller for the lives associated with the crew and continues to grow the family of people who do the right thing because it's just the right thing to do.
I've enjoyed this storyline so far but the Author insists on inserting these tiny vignettes between the more normal sized stories and, while only 99¢, you don't know what your getting and for the most part not worth d the cost.
I like the way the author incorporated this short story into the privateer tales. It is a stand alone book, and part of the saga to. Chance encounter of a stranger may change your life. For some to the better fort others to the worse. I recommend it.
It's another good book in the Privateer series. Not a lot of detail/background, but it will be interesting to see how these characters are woven into future stories.
Fun read, though it feels like it should be a bit later in the series - I'm presuming it follows events during the buccaneers book, but I might have wanted to read that one first.
