Paris 1782… AN INNOCENT IS TAKEN

All Claire Donet knew was the world inside the convent walls in Saint-Denis. She had no idea her beloved papa was a pirate. But when he seized Simon Powell's schooner, the English privateer decided to take the one thing his enemy held most dear... her.

A BATTLE IS JOINED

The waters between France and England roil with the clashes of Claire's father and her captor as the last year of the American Revolution rages on the sea, spies lurk in Paris and Claire’s passion for the English captain rises.

This is the prequel to the Agents of the Crown series and book 1 of the Donet trilogy; it can be read as a stand alone.

To Tame the Wind by Regan Walker is a 2015 publication. I was provided a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

A High seas adventure with romance at the ship's helm!

It as been a very, very long time since I have read a romance set at sea and I must admit I have missed these highly entertaining tales of romantic adventure.

Claire Donet was once an adventurous, lively, mischievous, and spirited girl until a tragic event at her convent school doused the fire in her soul. Now Claire is much more serious, ridden by guilt, and determined to become a nun.

However, if her father has any say in the matter, he will see to it she marries the man he has chosen for her. But, before either step can be taken, Simon Powell thwarts them both by kidnapping the innocent Claire and declaring he will hold her captive until he gets back what is his.

Simon is a British Privateer whose schooner was taken by Claire's father, a notorious pirate. Having been sent away to convent school after her mother's death, Claire is totally oblivious about her father's life.

Soon she finds herself torn between her French heritage, her father, and Simon, “The Golden One” as the revolutionary war continues to rage. With each passing day she gains more and more respect for Simon and begins to fall in love with him, despite the circumstances.

Simon's one objective is to get back his schooner and once that goal is accomplished he will turn Claire back over to her father. But, he will do so reluctantly, for he will miss her terribly. However, his feelings for her are forbidden and Claire has already committed herself to the convent.

Are Claire and Simon really two ships that pass in the night? Star crossed lovers? Will Claire really join the convent or will she marry the man her father has picked for her? Or… will Simon refuse to let her go?

The revolutionary war presented from the British and France perspective was a unique spin, and looking at it from that angle gave me a new outlook and made for some titillating suspense.

I loved Simon! He is the perfect romantic hero, protecting Claire by honoring her with his respect, and being the perfect gentleman, most of the time. () He is fierce, but kind and loyal and knows his mind.

Claire is a lady, highly principled, sympathetic, but strong, and sensitive. She is a bit more conflicted, but her character develops very nicely as the story progresses, and I was proud to see some of her fire rekindled by Simon.

One thing I really appreciate about Regan Walker is her dedicated research and attention to detail. How I wish all historical romance authors took the time to do this! There is no substitute for authenticity when reading historical fiction, because the dress, the conduct, vernacular and dialogue is what sweeps me into the past, literally bringing the pages to life.

What fun it is to follow along on the high seas, with swashbuckling adventure, danger, epic romance, intrigue, action and suspense! I loved every minute of this fast paced novel. This story was full of surprises and the secondary characters were well drawn adding another layer of depth. This was a romantic, exciting and fun read!

As always Regan Walker has gone all out for her readers by putting together maps, a list of characters for reference, and she has put together a Pinterest board dedicated to this novel, which you simply must see to believe. ( https://www.pinterest.com/reganwalker...)

Re-read and still hold at 5 stars!
Now I really need to read the next books in the series!

Setting: Saint Denis 1780

To Tame the Wind, is actually the "Prequel" to the author's "Agents Of The Crown" series, but this one can be read as a stand alone or before or after reading the series.
Either way this one was a great read!
I really like how the author put in the beginning of this book a character list, both real and fictional with * marks as to who will be in the following books.
I wish more authors would do this , as sometimes I find I can get lost on who is who or just where they fit in if a lot of secondary characters are introduced or a lot is going on.
I have a tendency sometimes to forget and have to keep flipping back to refresh my memory. Hence...III lose interest real fast.
Didn't happen here.

Claire Donet's story begins with her sneaking out of the convent that she has been in since she was seven, to go on one of her many adventures to escape for awhile to see what is beyond the convent walls.
On this particular night she is sneaking out to see a masked ball, and in order to see better she climbs a tree and spies a most handsome man with a golden eagle mask dancing.
Claire also gets more than she bargained for as she over hears and sees a romantic encounter between her golden man and a lady.
Embarrassingly Claire is caught by Simon Powell and he sets her back on the path to her convent and dismisses her from his mind.

Unfortunately, this night also had consequences ( not by Claire's doing ) as another young novice who is frail in health follows Claire on her adventure.
Both return back safe, but her friend ends up getting sick from the cold and ends up dying.
Guilt lays heavy at Claire's door, and she vows to carry out her friends dream to be a nun and teach, so she decides to take her vows and become that nun.
But destiny has other plans for Claire, her father sets marriage plans into motion for her to a successful lawyer.
Not far away other plans for Claire are being made by the notorious pirate Simon Powell.
Claire's father who is also a pirate ( unbeknown to her ) has stolen Simon's other ship and now Simon plans to abduct his daughter and hold her in return for his ship.

This "captor-captive pirate romance is my kind of "treasure" read.
And sometimes this kind of read can also be over done these days, But Regan Walker's "To Tame The Wind" is more than that.
Full of action and Swash-buckling adventure, seduction, action, suspense and unforgettable characters that find their way to love.
The author did a great job with character development, background plot set in the ending of the American Revolution with just enough historical detail that didn't take away from Simon and Claire's story.
A perfectly rounded out and enjoyable romantic tale, which now I just have to read her "Agents Of The Crown" series to find out their story!

Thank you Regan for providing me with a "paperback" version, and "To Tame The Wind" will be added to my "pirate-keeper" shelf.

The historical research was good. The writing is efficient and clean. It started out strong but lost steam quickly, and it turned into a dull story with an uninspired romance. Rounding down because I skimmed the last quarter. Not for me.

Not great but not bad! It was not a reread book. I did like that the h didn't jump in bed with the H till they were both in love. She was such an easy going captive that I wondered. At least she was mature unlike most h. The h was loveable. There sons were in Rising with win series, which I liked better.

I still enjoyed this book from start to finish. Worth the try!

Will revisit later. It's not capturing me. Probably just me as the ratings are high and nothing wrong with the writing. I think I watched too much Black Sails and was expecting more dastardly pirate action and less gentlemanly behavior.

This is a prequel to Regan Walkers Agents of the Crown Series. You can read as a stand alone or in books order readers choice of course. Either way this book is another keeper no matter how you look at it!

Another adventurous, romantic and mysterious page turner from the gifted story teller Regan Walker. This action packed historical romance right from the beginning that will keep you glued to the story and you simply won't be able to put it down.

Paris, 1780

It's starts off as the covent raised teenager the beautiful, Claire Ariane Donet, whom often likes to break the rules and sneaks out and her frail friend Elise follows her to this secret adventure to a secret Mask she found out by eavesdropping on adult conversations.

There she sees the handsome Simon Powell for the first time at a costume ball where the French aristocrats dress like commoners. It is where the innocent 16 years spies on him and dressed as a golden eagle as he is groping the courtesan dressed like a male hussar the limb on the tree she was spying from breaks off and she is caught! At first he thinks she is a lady of the night, a courtesan dressed as an innocent but then he realizes she is an innocent and sets her on the right path back to the convents and out of danger.

Unfortunately tragedy hits home which changes Claire forever and decides she wants to be a nun yet out of guilt. Yet, her well off, prominent father has other ideas for she is now eighteen years old and he has picked a successful lawyer for her husband in an arranged marriage. Claire has not told her father her feelings to be a nun nor do the sisters of the convent feel it's the right path for her. As they know it has to do with guilt from the past and another's wish to join the order.

Two years later Simon and Claire will cross paths again and she will find out things about her wealthy prominent father that turns her world upsIde down and inside out! As Simon is forced to abduct Claire to use as a trade for his men and ship that Claire's father has taken as prisoner and the ship for his own booty. Claire who has not lived outside the walls of the convent since she was seven years old and to be in such close quarters with one handsome Captain Simon Powell as well as his ship full of pirates she is definitely on some unchartered, dangerous, and unfamiliar waters in the high seas!

You need to read this marvelous book to find out what happens next and the conclusion of this exceptional read that I cannot praise enough!

Another Regan Walker adventure that will melt your heart and make you swoon. To Tame The Wind is adventurous, mysterious and romantic all rolled into one book and you will not be able to put it down. So grab a drink. snack and blanket and enjoy the ride as you will hate to see this captivating story come to an end! Yes it is that wonderful! You will be hooked and reeled in right from the beginning to the very last word in the book, it was an absolutely spectacular read as I find Ms. Walker's always are! I loved it!

I don't known how Ms Walker manages it, but manages it she does, she captivates and enthrall's you to believing that you're on the waves or in the ballroom, and you can see clearly the people in the story due to her fantastic descriptions.

This book is about the parents of Captain Nick Powell and Sir Martin Powell. Simon Powell and Claire Donet, and the love that came from a abduction, set in the time of the American War for Independance, and flitting between France and England.

Claire's father, a privateer attacks and claims one of Simon's ships, along with the crew whom he takes to give to an American, so the American can exchange them for Americans who have been captured by the English.

Simon wants both his ship and his crew so abducts Claire to ransom her.

Claire knows nothing of her father's business as she was sent to a convent when her mother died as a child and so grew up slightly naive as to the things surrounding her, when she is taken by Simon she can't believe the reason for it.

However that soon changes and .............

If you want to know more, I suggest that you buy this as I'm sure you won't be disappointed, if you love adventure and romance, then you will definitely love this, I know I did. I just couldn't put it down.

Series: The Donet Trilogy #1
Publication Date: 5/9/15
Number of Pages: 285

This is the first book I’ve read by this author – and I loved it. The story is well written, well-plotted and just downright exciting. Goodness, you have just about everything – a wonderful romance, PIRATES, spies, privateers and yes – the American Revolution. While it doesn’t take place in America, it does deal with the tensions between England and France because of France’s support of the Americans.

Simon Powell is a privateer and a spy for England. He’s not against American independence – he just wants to support his country and this will gain him some favor among those who can help him in his goal of establishing a shipping company. He has two ships – and one has just been boarded and taken by the French pirate/privateer Donet. Simon will do whatever it takes to get his ship and crew back! What is Donet’s vulnerable point? He has a daughter that nobody knows about and she is unprotected in a convent school. All Simon has to do to get his ship and crew back is kidnap the girl and then trade her for what is his.

Claire Donet knows nothing of her father’s real life. She has been raised inside the cloistered walls of a convent and believes that her father is a prosperous merchant. Claire is a spitfire until something happens when she is sixteen and she feels terrible guilt. She has now committed her life to becoming a nun. Late one evening when Claire is in an exhausted sleep, she awakens to find herself being gagged, bound and lowered out a window. Her next stop is aboard ship and off to England.

Jean Donet, Claire’s father, and Simon play a game of cat and mouse between England and France – each trying to gain back what is theirs. At the same time, Simon and Claire are growing closer and closer. How will they be able to let go when the time comes and Claire has to go back to her father in exchange for Simon’s crew.

This was an excellent read and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Now, I’m looking forward to reading the next books in the series.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Swashbuckling Captor-Captive Romance

This is another breath taking read from Regan Walker, who excels at transporting the reader into the life and times of her characters and in creating truly memorable heroes and heroines. To Tame the Wind, a prequel to her Agents of the Crown Trilogy and the first book in the Donet Duology, is set in England and France during the time of the American War of Independence, when France was a strong ally to the colonies in its struggles against England. Once again I felt that I had stepped back into history as I experienced what life was like on-board ship and on land in eighteenth century France and England. The machinations of war throw the hero and heroine together and also threaten to tear them apart.

Captor-captive romances are one of my favourite themes in romance. This read, where the devilishly handsome and swoon worthy Captain Powell seizes Claire, the convent raised daughter of a pirate, in a desperate attempt to recover his men and ship, is a super spin on the theme. When the couple meet it is not long before sparks fly and passion ignites, yet what future for a couple whose countries are sworn enemies?

Simon’s loyalties are truly torn in this novel between his growing attraction for his spirited captive and his commitment to free his men and reclaim his ship from his enemy, Claire’s father. He also has to grapple with the scheming of the powers that be who would use Claire as a pawn, regardless of her safety. I loved how protective he is of Claire and honourable he is towards her – but don’t get me wrong there are plenty of passionate scenes between the couple and sexual tension and emotions in particular are high! How will Simon be able to hand Claire, a woman whom he craves above all others, over to is enemy and to an uncertain future? How can he not when the lives of others hang in the balance?

Claire is a real firecracker of a heroine who upon meeting Simon begins to doubt where her future lies. Will she admit her love for Simon and if so how can she possibly avoid returning to her father and the land of her birth when so much rests on her safe return? Regan Walker’s characters and plot are as usual complex and I could not second guess if and how the couple would find their HEA.

While romance is well and truly at the centre of this read I loved how Regan Walker effortlessly and seamlessly immerses the reader in the real life historical events and personalities of the day. To Tame the Wind is once again a superb read for lovers of Historical Romance from this author.

A copy of an ARC for this book was received from the author for the purpose of a fair and honest review.

This interesting perspective of the American Revolution (War) as seen by the French and British, was one I happily gleaned from author Regan Walker. I hadn’t looked at this side of the historical event before.

Ms. Walker skillfully pens her story of love between Claire and Simon who are of opposing sides – heroine comes from France, country to aid the Americans against the British and a British privateer, anxious to rid the English Channel of Jean Donet, a pirate, turned privateer, who is none other than the heroine’s father.

Claire, just eighteen, is hidden away at the Ursuline Convent in France, knows little of the world and less of her father. No, she had no idea her father was a pirate and now privateer. She had held guilt of her own these last two years—knowing her youngest friend, Elise, had taken ill and died of pneumonia because she had followed Claire out in bad weather to peak through windows of a masquerade ball. In the rain they saw the ball gowns and men and women dancing. On that particular night she met her destiny—the golden one, she called him. She just hadn’t known it.

Simon also fights with his desire after kidnapping Claire. He hoped she provided enough leverage to return his crew and ship, Abundance, back from the notorious Donet. Simon is drawn to her beauty, mind, determination, strength, and temper, hardly able to keep his distance. Yet, he must keep Claire from harm’s way, his way, and return her to her father as he found her, else he may lose his crew and ship—he simply could not risk it.

Has Simon met his match with Claire? Little did Claire know she had such a temper with the ferociousness of the wind when she began destroying…well, I really mustn’t say. But with that destruction, Claire discovered much about herself. ….and Simon learned how to tame the wind.

This is a fast-paced, sweetly written love story, with some very funny moments AND everything Claire wanted from life—adventure, travel, excitement… and the golden one.

The time on ship smacked of rolling seas and salty wind with the crew handling Fairwinds with such finesses as only a man can who knows his woman. Care to join the crew and share in this adventure? I loved my time aboard!

This is a prequel to Regan Walker’s “Agents of the Crown Series” as well as Book 1 in her new “Donet Duology”. I have read the first three books in the “Agents of the Crown Series” and loved them all. I was wondering how I would react to a prequel.

It turned out this is one of those WOW books for me. Everything – from the premise till the end – is engaging, filled with action, humor, twists, and historical details that made me want to look deeper into the period and learn more about it. And when a book triggers such a reaction in me, well, it’s worth reading and rereading. This is what I’m looking for in a historical romance – it has to be more than just a love story, more than just love scenes (and speaking of that, those in this book were done with taste – sex for the sake of sex is boring and holds no interest for me), to make it complete it really needs the historical background and we have aplenty here and written in such a way that you never feel as if you’re in a classroom learning about a particular era.
I absolutely love the way Ms. Regan fleshes out her characters, be they the main or the secondary characters which makes it hard not to love/hate/distrust them. Her descriptions are vivid and there is a certain lyricism to her words.

Simon Powell and Claire Donet, the main characters, are totally right for one another... even though their love spuns from an abduction. And, without divulging too much of the story, I have to admit I had a good laugh at Claire’s tantrum in the cabin, shortly after Simon kidnapped her – she reacted just like a spoiled child.

I got lost in this story and when I do, it’s a good sign. Keep on writing those engaging stories, Ms. Walker.

This will have you falling in love with Simon and wishing you were Claire.

The setting is Paris 1782, the end of the American Revolution is at hand. Regan creates a heartwarming love story about a Privateer Simon Powell and a young lady who has spent her life in the convent since her mother’s death when she was seven.

Claire has no idea her father is a pirate who has captured Simon's schooner and his crew. In response Simon takes pirate, Jean Donet's most cherished only daughter from the convent to hold as a hostage to retrieve his schooner and crew from Donet.

The story is filled with action on the high seas, the politics of the end of the American Revolutionary war, the spy network Simon was involved in and a look at both sides of the issue regarding the French and English involvement in the war. I love the history lesson.

I have read the entire “Agent of the Crown Series.” I enjoyed them all.

Regan has a Pinterest page for every book. It gives you a look into her research and a feeling of the time period. I appreciate the time and effort she puts into each book.

Looking forward to the “Donet Duology”

Don’t miss this sweeping tale of love on the high seas! This is yet another keeper by Regan Walker! It is an expertly written historical romance that takes the reader from a convent in France out to the high seas and back again. It is set in the late 18th Century. It goes from drawing rooms to taverns and into the bed chamber, all exquisitely crafted and described by Walker. The pages fly by and the adventure keeps coming. There are two love stories here and both are compelling. One is about the parental love of a pirate for his daughter and the other is tale of sexual tension between a headstrong beauty and her swashbuckling kidnapper. Do not miss this book. It is a glorious read, worthy of coming back to again and again.

Engaging from the first paragraph to the last, To Tame the Wind by Regan Walker delivers history that is both informative and fascinating and a love story that you will want to read again and again. Be prepared for the hero, Simon Powell, privateer extraordinary, to steal your heart even as he is stealing Claire Donet, the feisty, beautiful daughter of his sworn foe, in this epic tale of the American Revolution told from an uniquely different perspective.

This is book is the bridge book that connects The Donet Trilogy with The Agents of the Crown Series and for those that haven’t read either this is the book to read, this is where we get to see where the Agents of the Crown story begins, and we get out first glimpse of captivating pirate Jean Donet. I really like how Walker has linked the two series with this one book it is so smart excellently done by one of the most accomplished and talented author’s around. As we have come to expect from Walker To Tame the Wind is luxuriously rich in detail and intrigue, with character’s who you are rooting for and who draw your attention from the moment you lay eye’s on them and as always I was hooked from start to finish.

think Walker has captured Claire’s inner turmoil – about having the two men whom she loves dearly at war – beautifully. To Tame the Wind is another fabulously enchanting and mind turning story from Ms Walker, it flows seamlessly from one scene to the next and one that I whole heartedly recommend and as with all of books from Agent’s of the Crown and The Donet Trilogy. This can be read as a stand alone or part of both series’, To Tame the Wind does set the reader up nicely to jump from one series to the next as I see this as the bridge between the two it is the perfect place for those that haven’t read Ms Walker’s work yet, this is the place to start.
Highly enjoyable especially for those of us who like highly detailed historicals with a satisfying storyline and flawed but honest character’s.

Not gunna lie skimmed the whole book but the dialogue was good. This book was during my major slump, so if I read it another time I would have enjoyed it way more I think.

I really liked the characters, but I enjoyed it enough that I continued through the whole book.

I think I expected to0 much from this author. She reviews a lot of books and I usually agree with her. So I went into this book expecting so much. The research is excellent. The writing is good but not great. I just could not get into the characters at all and it had such potential.

To Tame the Wind begins with Claire having sneaked out the convent in order to see for herself the masquerade ball that she’s heard so much about, only to discover that her young and frail friend, Elise, had followed her into the night. Even though Claire tries to convince Elise that she needs to return home, her young friend will not hear of it. Claire relents and allows Elise to tag along. Once the two girls near the grand estate where the ball is being held, the music floats through the air and Claire is immediately drawn in. She tells Elise to stay put as she seeks a spot closer in order to see the party for herself. Claire climbs a tree and the sight before her has her completely enthralled. She sees gloriously dressed men and women dancing and longs to maybe someday be a part of such a scene.

It’s not long before a man with golden hair, and a woman dressed as a hussar walk out into the night, and end up at the tree where Claire is perched. Things turn a bit amorous between the wayward partygoers and Claire can’t believe her eyes, nor the feelings that stir within her. Suddenly, a streak of lightning lights up the sky and things go a little haywire for Claire as she falls out of the tree and is discovered by the handsome Englishman with the golden hair and the amber eyes, who initially mistakes her for a party guest, but soon realizes she’s an innocent young woman and sends her on her way. As she and Elise frantically make their way back home, they are completely drenched by the storm. Little does she know how much her life will change due to her decisions made that night.

The story then fast forwards two years and finds Claire still in the convent. She has made the decision to take a vow to become a member of the Order, only to find out that her papa has arranged her marriage. The Reverend Mother doesn’t think that Claire is wanting to take her vows for the right reasons, and also doesn’t think that her papa will allow it, but she leaves it up to Claire to convince her papa. But, that convincing will never get the chance to come to fruition as Claire is awakened in the middle of the night and kidnapped from the convent. Once she sees her captor, she almost can’t believe her own eyes, because before her is the ever handsome golden haired Englishman that had unknowingly set her heart aflutter so long ago. Unfortunately, he tells her things that she just cannot believe. Her beloved papa was not a pirate, but a “man of business”. But, Captain Simon Powell assures her that there are things in motion that her beloved papa will have to address if she is to be freed. It doesn’t take Simon long to realize that Claire is not as meek as she first seemed, but more like a wild wind blowing through and determined to make her own place in the world. Claire soon realizes that Captain Simon Powell is a man of his word and realizes that he would never harm her. Along with the new found knowledge that privateers, pirates and spies abound, will Claire be able to resist the noble Captain who only wants to get his ship and his men back safely? And, will Simon be able to tame the wind? Well, my friends, you’ll have to read to find out. And, oh, what a read it is!

Regan Walker has once again written a wonderful story that will have you hooked from the first page. Claire Donet is such a wonderfully written character. She is kind and compassionate, as well as fiercely loyal and loving. I love the rebellious streak that we are privy to, as does Simon. The chemistry between these two is palpable. He is just as loyal and compassionate and loving as Claire, but will move heaven and earth to make things right. And, once he decides on all of the things that need to be righted, nothing will stop him. I’d love to say more about what transpires between them, but do not want to spoil what is a great story.

I’ve told you before, but I feel I need to tell you again. No one writes like Regan Walker. She effortlessly weaves historical facts into her fictional stories so well that you will find yourself questioning your own history lessons. You can absolutely feel her passion for her craft as she tells her tales, whether on the high seas of the English Channel, or on the cobble stone streets of London or Paris. And, I don’t just mean her passion for writing a story. I mean her passion for making sure that her stories ring true, whether it’s the sound of the ocean, the smells in the air or the character’s feelings. Her world building is phenomenal. There is political intrigue and a bit of mystery and a beautifully developed romance, but I’ve come to expect nothing less from Regan Walker. The only problem I have with her stories is that I have to wait for the next one! I have it on good authority that the next installment will be Claire’s beloved papa, Jean Donet’s story. If you’re a fan of this genre, you are sorely missing out if you’ve not read any of Ms. Walker’s books. Well done, Regan Walker! Very very very very well done!!

Life can change in an instant, whether by choice or by happenstance, and it can shake the foundation you've firmly stood on for years.

Claire knew her life inside the convent would one day end, that her father would send for her and marry her to a man of his choosing. Until then, she would remain with the nuns while sneaking out for an occasional adventure or two. Her spirit and curiosity drew her to a masquerade, a friend in tow, where she met a most exquisite man, the golden one, as she remembered him as. She thought of him often, pictured him in her mind as he'd been that night. But the death of her friend that went with her that night pushed thoughts of him to the back of her mind as guilt and sorrow plagued her. The adventuress she was faded into the shadows as she readied herself to honor the promise of joining the Order that she'd made to her dying friend.

The man she met that night was Simon, an English privateer. They would meet again, this time inside the convent as he stole her away in retaliation for her father capturing his beloved ship Abundance and its crew. But revenge is a dish best served with a focused mind, an absent heart and devoid of emotions. Once the heart becomes engaged, emotions are soon to follow, and the mind becomes clouded with other things.

As it was with Simon. Don't think me cruel but I laughed when it happened to him. He didn't exactly dislike Claire, even if she was the daughter of his enemy, but he was constantly reminding himself why he kidnapped her. At first they were reminders of what he'd lost, of what he had to get back. But later they were heartfelt mournings for what he would lose when the exchange was complete. Falling in love was never part of his plan, or hers for that matter, yet it happened without ether of them realizing it and their lives were forever changed.

If you're familiar with Ms. Walker's style of writing, you won't be disappointed with this one. If you haven't read anything by Ms. Walker, I hope you give this one a try. Detailed and thorough, it will pull you in and keep you enthralled to the very end. Intrigue, adventure, and love, everything a romance reader wants in a great story. And I don't know about you, but when it comes to a Ms. Walker story I couldn't ask for more. Well, except for the chance to read it myself and probably more than once.

1780 in a small town north of Paris, 16 year old Claire Donet sneaks out of the convent where she's lived most of her life to witness a much talked about masquerade.
Simon Powell attends a masquerade in a small town north of Paris gathering information for the Crown to be used in the war against the American Colonies. As a small diversion he attempts to seduce an attendee of the party under a Hawthorne tree. This seduction is interrupted when a dark haired, blue eyed beauty falls from this tree.

Forward 2 years...
After the death of her best friend at the convent Claire Donet has done her best to contain her rebellious side & fulfill the promise she made her dying friend...to do as this friend wanted to do with her own life - join the Nuns & teach the children. However, try as she might she cannot forget that fateful night 2 years ago or the man she calls the Golden One.

Simon Powell has done well for himself he now commands 2 ships as a privateer for England, gathering intelligence for use in the Revolutionary War. Alas, 1 of his ships & it's crew are captured by a Frenchman, Jean Donet - son of a French Comte turned pirate turned privateer. Simon soon learns of the Frenchman's daughter & sets out to kidnap her & use in exchange for the release of his men.

As this game of cat & mouse moves back & forth between France & England, over sea & land Simon soon learns his captive intends to take her vows & enter the convent. As she awakens feelings in him can he convince her that she has to much passion to become a nun even though he can't have her? Can he let her go when the time comes for the exchange?

As Claire learns about the man she's dreamed of since that fateful night 2 years ago can she keep her vow to her friend to become a Nun & a teacher? Even though he's her captor can she keep from falling in love with him? How will she react when she learns the truth about her father? Will she go through with her father's plans for her to marry another?

Regan Walker does an amazing job researching the history of the time period & using it to bring her story to life. To Tame the Wind is an exciting, romantic prelude to the Agents of the Crown series. While it can be read as a stand alone I heartily suggest reading the entire series!! I know I am anxiously awaiting the next story of the Powell family.

Series Cont.? Yes, but can be read as a stand alone.
Recommend: Yes

Summary: Clair Donet, a young women living at a convent since she was 7 is taken captive by Simon Powell a foe of her pirate father. A series of turmoil ensues while the captive and her captive fall for each other. What will happen when Clair finds out her father is a Pirate? You'll have to read the book to find out!

My thoughts: I have to say the Regan has hooked me on this series before the first book is out. If the prequel is any indication the series will be amazing! I felt like I was transported back in time and fell in love all over again. And I have to say Simon isn't the only one who turns heads and peeks an interest in this book. I can't go without mentioning the beautiful picture of era clothing that is painted for you on every page. Truly makes you want to be a guest at the next Ball. What a perfect summer beach read full of romance, adventure and a sea setting. I could not put this down and read it in just over a day. Take a look, I know you will love it as much as I did.

"Agents Of the Crown, Prequel, and #1 Donet Duology". What an intriguing story, with endearing and engaging characters. From a convent in France, to the open sea, to ballrooms and beyond, the reader is taken on a journey of sacrifice, high sea adventure, passion and love. Fast paced and filled with tidbits of information about the American and French wars.

Well written with an intriguing storyline and interesting characters. Once again, Ms. Walker was written a tale in which the reader can become engrossed. I can't wait to read the "Donet Duology", which should prove to be another engrossing tale. I love the way the author brings her characters to life, on the pages of her story and how she captures the reader's interest and holds them in awe. Highly recommended for fans of Historical events, American and French wars, high sea adventure and Historical romance. An enjoyable and satisfying read! A keeper and a must read! You don't want to miss "To Take the Wind".

From the high seas to ballrooms Ms. Walker weaves a fascinating tale based on historical events and places of the times nearing the end of the American Revolutionary war from the perspective of the French and British.

This story sweeps the reader in from the moment Clair Donet, then a young girl is safely tucked away in a convent being educated by the sisters to her chance meeting with privateer Simon Powell who later becomes her abductor. It is from Simon she learns her father is a pirate who has stolen one of Simons sailing vessels to use as her dowery. As the tail unfolds both Simon and Clair learn to let go of perceptions they hold for their lives as they explore the possibilities of a new future.

The characters in the story are so well done and the descriptive scenes will have you following the crew across France and England with a sprinkling of the life of an American captive as well.

I you love historical romance this is a must read! Well done Ms. Walker.

This is the prequel to "Agents of the Crown" series , I have to say that I'm speechless this was a fantastic read it has all the elements of a great book.

Claire Donet is the daughter of a pirate (she has no clue) she's been living in a convent and unknown to her she's abducted by one of her father's enemies . Simon is the bastard son of an Earl , also a pirate/spy who wants his schooner back and how else does one get back his ship and crew? The Ace up his sleeve? Claire of course , what he didn't count on was that she would be so feisty and that he would have a crazy attraction to her . There's much intrigue, and honour between Simon and Claire . Regan Walker creates loveable characters that drag you into their life , as a reader you get to feel their emotions at a time when there was little trust between enemies. This was the first book I read by Regan Walker and it definitely will not be the last one. I highly recommend her books you won't be disappointed .

Another big hit in the Agents of the Crown series by Regan Walker, To Tame the Wind. I felt the sweet romance building from the very beginning. The wild, but very innocent, young lady from a convent falling from her tree perch, nearly at the very feet of her Golden One, an English privateer, who had just turned her insides to mush! How embarrassing! Now, two years later she finds herself back in his very arms, and he's calling her father a Pirate! I certainly don't want to give anything away, I want you to read this book for yourself. It has plenty of excitement, charm, and romance to keep you reading. I have loved all the Agents of the Crown books, and I hope you will too. They do not have to be read in any order to be thoroughly enjoyed. I always love when the author keeps characters from other books in the series in the current book she writes. I love that connection.

This is a wonderful book. Well written, great characters and some real history mixed in. Convent raised, French Claire Donet is kidnapped by English privateer Simon Powell as hostage for his ship and men her privateer/pirate father captured. She, of course, can not believe her beloved Papa was a pirate. It takes time to work out the details of the exchange and in that time Claire and Simon fall in love. He does not believe he is worthy of her but is loathe to give her up. She is head over heels in love with him. That's all you get from me as I do not like to read or write plot spoilers. I highly recommend this book and will be reading the others in this series asap.

Who doesn't love a good pirate romance? As I sat overlooking the ocean, this was the perfect vacation read. The descriptions were vivid, the characters real and woven with care into history. The sails snapped as they caught the wind. The woman was young, but vivacious. The captain was hungry, yet full of restraint. Oh my. Abduction from a convent? A bastard son? The sea and the wind will take you and set your imagination free. Enjoy!

Got this as a “blind date with a book”. Should’ve picked a different one, but luck wasn’t with me today. I will NOT be reading this one.

I loved this book! It crosses genres, and I would call it Historical Fiction Regency. It had everything you could possibly want in a thrilling love story- action, adventure, drama, sweet romance, interesting and engaging characters especially the two main characters Simon Powell and Claire Donet, and pirates- okay now privateers who formerly were pirates. The story begins when English Captain Powell's ship and crew are taken by French pirate Jean Donet. So to get his ship back, Powell abducts Donet's young daughter until his ship and crew are returned to him. Thus our story begins, but that is only the beginning. What a wonderful and entertaining read, and I loved the ending! Now I have to read the other books in this series to find out what happens next.
