Rekindle: verb; to revive something that has been lost
Loss and change are two things that Emma Grace is intimately familiar with. She knows better than anyone that sometimes, life happens. It happens often, and never in the way she expects. When she and her best friend, Cam make the move back to her childhood hometown in Alabama, life decides to happen again.
Rhett McCoy never forgot Emma Grace. Hell, every memory from his childhood included her. But that's what she was now. A memory. At least, that's what he thought until he finds himself standing in front of a very real Emma Grace.
Neither of them expected to see each other again, but when life hands you a second chance at your first love - how far do you go to protect it?
We started out as strangers. Two people in two different states, who shared a love of books.
Through group interactions and various messages, we talked for months. Eventually, talks of our favorite fictional characters turned into talks of real life events.
As wives and mothers, we shared stories about our husbands and children. We’ve shared laughter, tears, and the deep frustration of fictional characters talking to us at the most inopportune times.
Over the years, our relationship has changed from strangers to best friends, and our love of reading has turned into a love of writing.
Reading is what brought us together. The written word will always hold a special place in our hearts, and we’re ecstatic to be able to share our words with you.
I am sitting her in disbelief that this is Morgan Nicole's first novel.
Through the first 30% of the book I was really enjoying the book and thinking that this book was going to be a solid 4 star book for me. But, as I kept reading my feelings were changing and at about 50% in I had an epiphany...this book is a 5 star read. I felt like I was reading a book that was written by an experienced writer that has had several books published. It was wonderful and I don't think the smile ever left my face. Even during the scary times in the book (I know...weird, and I can't help but still kinda like the "bad guy" in the book).
I really liked Rhett and Emma Grace but my heart is with Micah. I WANT MORE MICAH!! I have read in the past how people don't like insta love stories and to be honest...I'm not a huge fan either unless they are believable. Rhett and Emma Grace's story is believable. Heck, I am living proof of insta love. My hubby and I were only together for 2 months before he proposed and we have been married for 11 years now.
I loved all the characters in Rekindle and I can't wait to read more stories in this series and see where Cam, Luke, Tanner and Micah end up.
Amazing job Morgan Nicole...but honestly I didn't expect anything less than awesome from you two!

And then it comes to me—exactly what I need to do. “I'm in a glass case of emotion!” I wail and fling myself across Cam’s body, pretending to sob. She goes stiff. “Did…did you…?” I back up and look at her as she tries to compose a sentence, holding back a smile the best I can. “Anchorman! Really Emma Grace? Five years of memories and you’re leaving it with an Anchorman quote! I shouldn’t even give you points for that one!”
Any book that starts out with an Anchorman quote in the first chapter is a winner with me. Emma and Cam have been best friends and roommates for years. Deciding to move from Chicago back to their hometown in Alabama, a whirlwind of memories come flooding back to Emma, namely her best friend and the man that she’s compared all others to, Rhett.
Rhett is a hot firefighter who has never forgotten the young girl he fell in love with. Adopted as an adolescent and whisked away from him, Emma has always been the girl for him. So when she shows up back in their small town, he has trouble believing that fate has intervened once again, and he may finally have a chance with the woman that has held a piece of his heart for so long.
“So, tell me about the trail of broken hearts you’ve left,” he says after putting away the trash and settling in. “No broken hearts. I haven’t really dated anyone seriously…well, ever. I’ve dated a few guys here and there, but nothing ever really got serious. Relationships aren’t my thing. They bring complications that I just haven’t had time for,” I respond, shrugging my shoulders. “What about now?” “What do you mean ‘what about now?’” “Do you have time for those complications now?” he inquires. “No one really has time for complications, Rhett.” “Well, let me make this as uncomplicated as possible, M. I know it’s soon, but I want to pursue these feelings I’m having for you. We can go as slow as you want. All I know is I want you. Period. I want you in my life. I want you by my side. I want your smiles. I want your laughter. And more than anything, right now, I want to kiss you. I really need you to understand that I’ll wait for all of those things, no matter how long it takes. I’m a patient man, babe.”,/b>
The cast of characters and the banter between them is what really makes the book. Between Emma and Rhett sharing stories from their past, the fun antagonism between Rhett and his fellow firefighters, the sisterly affection between Emma and Cam, it all makes for an endearing story of second chance love. But when strange things start to happen, putting the lives of their circle of friends at risk, Emma and Rhett’s chance at love might be over before it even starts. Will Emma’s abandonment issues threaten the trust needed to build a relationship between them?
Told in a first person, dual POV, Rekindle is an engaging story from the get-go with characters that are real and heartwarming. There are some parts of the plot that are a little predictable, but overall I enjoyed the story and will definitely check out subsequent books in the series. I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, I’m a sucker for both friends to lovers and second chance love stories, and this one fits both to a tee. I’m definitely looking forward to Cam and Luke’s story.
First off I have to mention how extremely proud I am that these ladies have published their book! What an achievement, and to do it with a book that is a great read is even better. The cover…gah that cover is so immensely beautiful, I absolutely loved it from the minute I saw it. Such class! So I’m not rehashing the book as it’s one you need to read, I’m just going to let fly with my observations and how I felt while reading it. I always worry when I read a friends book and tend to be the last one to get to it but thankfully those friends I have know I’m going to review it no differently than I would another. I really enjoyed this and read straight through but it didn’t give me that 5 star read I was looking for. I can’t put my finger on why not. It’s funny and has a lot of humour in it which I always like. Brilliant family dynamic to the plot. I liked that Emma didn’t end up with crappy foster parents which happens in so many books, so I got that family love feeling which was a fantastic element to the story. Rhett and Emma are great characters but I did find it took a while to warm up to Emma, whether it was her aloofness or something else I just don’t know. Rhett wasn’t your all-encompassing in your face alpha male, he was hot yes, but he had good values and was easy to connect with. If you don’t fall in love with him there’s something wrong! The secondary characters were such a joy to read, each one different in their own right and I am looking forward to reading their stories in due course. For me it’s the small moments in books that really get me and help me engage. Rekindle is chock full of them and they are quite beautiful to read. It’s those tiny moments that say everything without saying anything at all. These girls have got their descriptive text down to a tee. So much so that these little moments make the reader feel. It’s a book full of emotion that is a delight to read. This reads like an experienced author has written it and that surprised me in all honesty. I don’t know the writing style of either authors due to this being their first so I couldn’t pick who wrote what and to me that’s great, I don’t like to see something where it’s obvious two people have written it together. This was seamless and it flowed just perfect. Fantastic debut novel and I think these girls are going to go from strength to strength; I’m so excited for them. Congrats Morgan Nicole x
I am a big sucker for childhood friends falling in love, and second chance romances, so while firemen may not be my sweet spot (although there is a certain Kristan Higgins fireman I adore), the synopsis of the book really appealed to me.
So Emma and Rhett knew each other when they were children, and they loved each other in that sweet childhood way, really it was so sweet. But the Emma's life shifted and she moved far away from her home in Alabama when she was adopted. Years later, as an adult, she realized something is missing in her life so she decided to go back to Alabama with her best friend Cam (who basically moves because her family are an unsupportive bunch of jerks, oh and because she loves her best friend). Anyway, back in their hometown, when all of a sudden Emma is teaching at school when a fire alarm goes out, and what happens to poor Emma, she's struck down with a fierce panic attack, until a voice from the past talks her down.
So I liked Emma, she has some insecurity issues, and of course has that whole panic attack issue, but she is so used to losing people that she loves that it is really hard for her to let people in. While it's totally understandable, it did get frustrating towards the end, and not just for me, for Rhett too. I loved that Emma is a smart girl, and even more that she is such a fierce friend. When she meets Rhett's friends, she immediately makes them her friends as well, and she is fiercely protective of them, which was so awesome to see.
Rhett is just a good guy, I think I liked him a bit more than I liked Emma, he was just a stand up guy. I liked that he was so supportive and understanding of both his friends and of Emma. He was also really sweet with Emma. It was so clear early on that these two people had a strong connection when they were kids, and now as adults the connection is just as strong, its changed to something more romantic in nature, but the connection is still there.
If I had one complaint about this book is that it is a little two sugary sweet in some parts, but to be honest it made up for it with the mystery arsonist that the firemen in this book are chasing. The arsonist upped the drama and the suspense in the book and made the pacing move a bit quicker, it did a great job of keeping me interested. If you like firemen, or new adult books, then you should think about checking this one out.
After losing her mother, Emma is in a foster house. Her best and only friend Rhett, is her port in the storm. Until she gets adopted and moves away. Years later Emma and her best friend move back home. Things are so nice and quiet there compared to the big city. Her love of books lead her into becoming a teacher. Things are going great until a fire breaks out at the school. After getting the kids to safety, she suffers a panic attack. One of the firemen notices and comes to her rescue. When she finally recovers, the fireman is Rhett...a very sexy Rhett!!
Since they were young Rhett has been in love with Emma. No one could capture his heart. So when Emma comes back into his life, he knows he can't lose her again. But when other fires happen, they know they are dealing with arson. Now the clock is ticking to find the arsonist before one of them get hurt or lose their life.
I had the honor of reading this book as it was being written. I love it because I was able to yell at the authors for breaking my heart, making me cry happy tears, causing me to stop breathing, and making me laugh so hard I cried. This is a great debut novel, the story line is beautiful, the characters are real, like legit real and it makes you love them instantly. I know these two authors personally and it was so much fun to watch them write this book and put so much of themselves into it. The relationships are real, the emotions are raw and you can't help but root for them all. I'm in love with this book and I can't wait for more!
What a great book?!! And a debut book at that?! Amazing is all I can say!
The characters (all of them) were very relatable and I fell for Rhett! Micah is hilarious and Luke and Tanner completed the foursome of guys. Loved Emma (M&M) and her best friend Cam. Both had me laughing at their greetings for each other and their movie quotes!
Looking forward to the next book in this series and see what happens with Luke and Cam!
Amazing! So many emotions! Love, loss, pain, fear, happiness...this book is perfect! I was riveted and couldn't put it down! Thank you Morgan Nicole! I can't wait for the next one!
This is the story of Rhett & Emma, best friends since birth, but separated at age 11 for 15 years. They reconnect, and sparks fly! : ) It's a very sweet, fun story (many LOL moments because Emma & her BFF, Cam, and Rhett's BFF Micah, are HILARIOUS!). There's even a bit of intrigue!
The writing flows pretty well, although there are a few things, plot-wise, that I just didn't feel the jive on. Emma was 11 when she was adopted, by really great ppl who loved her a lot. Yet, somehow, she lost touch w/ her best friend and the woman who had been raising her for two years before her adoption? I didn't quite get why - when she talked about Rhett all the time to everyone in her new life - her adoptive parents wouldn't've encouraged her to keep in touch w/ him. And the epilogue was really cute, but I felt like it would have been better as a flashback before ending the story in the present.
BUT, aside from those issues and some choppy bits to the cadence of the story itself, this still gets two thumbs up from me! I'm looking forward to the next story in the series. : )
5 huge stars for this one. I freaking loved it. Sooooo unbelievably good! If I didn't know better I would have said that this was the authors 10th book not their first. They have the flow to the story that some authors can't get till their 7th or 8th book. It's a beautiful story of second chance love between two childhood friends. There's suspense, angst, laughter, friendship, love, fighting and pain. I did have a few tears, some were through laughing so hard at Cam and Emma and the banter between them. Others were through the pain I felt for Rhett and Emma. It's obvious Rhett loves Emma, even when reading the parts when they were kids, but Emma has had to endure a lot of loss through her life and I think she believes that if she lets herself love Rhett, he will leave too. Anyhoo, you will love this book, you will fall in love with the characters, enjoy the banter between some very special friends and enjoy the fact that second chance love can happen.
What can I say abut Rekindle?? It's by a brand new author and if you can't tell by the title, it's about 2nd chance love. Rhett and Emma Grace met when they were children but were separated by circumstances. And when they come back together, they find they've both changed but the old feelings are still there. But it isn't as simple as all that. There's twists and turns so just when you think these two are going to ride off into the sunset together and live happily ever after, you are proven wrong! This book has everything I love - comedy, drama, suspense, and best of all, HOT love scenes!! I will definitely be picking up any books released by this author and I'm hoping, hoping, hoping the next book is about Cam and Luke!!
This is an amazing debut from Morgan Nicole!! I wish I could give more than just 5stars because it was an amazing book. With the sexy alpha firemen to sweet, sassy ladies made for a perfect book. The banter between all of them, and to me the underlying of family is not necessarily blood. I laughed so hard at places in this book and then turned around and cried in places. I cannot wait for the rest of this series!!!! I would highly recommend this book!!!!! "I don't know any other way to love you,M" Rhett. Ahhh swoon ;) Also finished in one day,I could not put it down!!!
This was a really great read full of all the things I love in books...a strong leading lady, a guy who knows what he wants and isn't afraid to go after it, real friendship, lots and lots of laughter, and of course drama. I figured the twist out just before it happened and omg my heart was in my throat. I seriously could not get enough of this story!
And that's what you are going to get with this one. Down home sweet. Sometimes all we want to read is a book about love with no drama, no fighting past demons and all that and that's what your getting. I want me a Rhett. He goes down as the sweet book boyfriend for sure. Can't wait to read more of this series.
I finally got to read this book and finished it in one night. I love Rhett and Emma and their story, a second chance romance. It's so nice to read a story that doesn't have a lot of earth shaking drama in it, well maybe a few hiccups or loud burps I'd say but they dealt with it and moved on. And I am really in awe that this is a debut novel. Highly recommended! Can't wait for the next one.
We meet Emma Grace (M&M) and Rhett who were childhood friends but became separated through circumstances beyond their control.
Emma Grace and her best friend Can move back to Emma's childhood hometown of Alabama for a fresh start, Emma starts her new job as a school teacher, this is where she is reunited with Rhett as there is a fire in the school and Rhett is the fire fighter on duty.
Both Emma & Rhett miss the close bond they both once shared but will this bond be rekindled again? This book has so many twists and turns but is an amazing read, the one thing that really does stand out with this book is that the characters feel real, like you know them, this is a great debut novel.
It is also quite obvious that the author has poured her heart and soul into her characters and storyline as it shines through the pages.
Rhett is loveable instantly, Emma is funny and sweet, all the secondary characters have an instant pull towards them which you early find in a book so I'm hoping there is going to be books with these as main characters. Well done Morgan Nicole on a fantastic 5 star read!!!
Emma Grace has lost most everyone in her life except Rhett McCoy. When she gets adopted and moves away, she finally finds parents that love her. After college, she and her bff Cam move back to her hometown in Alabama. When she sees Rhett for the first time in years, it has to be during a panic attack. Which Rhett knows how to help her. When there are strange fires happening and several firefighters are injured, Emma Grace realizes she can't lose Rhett now that she has him back. Will they find who is setting the fires and why? Will Rhett and Emma Grace get their happily ever after? If you are looking for a great story that is hot and the men are hotter, then check out this one. I loved it and can't wait for more from Engine 24. **I reviewed my personal copy of this book for Wicked Reads**
An incredible book from start to finish! I loved the characters, their banter was incredibly funny! This book is about second Chances at love! Rhett and Emma were a wonderful loving couple and I felt so many emotions reading their story. The highs and lows in this book will shock you, make you shed so many tears that in the end you will have such a book hangover, you will need to calm down before you go read anything else.
I can't recommend this book highly enough. Add it to your TBR list, you will not be disappointed at all. I cannot wait to read more from this series, I have no doubt the next book that comes will blow our mind just as this one did!!!
I thought the story flowed, was well structured if not a little rushed in some parts, however, that being said I really enjoyed the book so wasn't put off by this. The characters and secondary characters were relatable and the laugh out loud banter between them was hilarious! A definite must read just for that :-)
Well done ladies - looking forward to reading future releases.
Second chances...sigh. Firemen...sigh. A perfect combination that produced a very intense but sweet read. This was a love that transcended ages, stood the test of time and came out stronger than ever. This had a combination of everything that makes a great read: intensity, uncertainty, fear, suspense, and lots more. It made for a great read with characters that you will fall in love with.
It's hard to believe this is the Author's first book. It's beautifully written and flows wonderfully. It had me choked up in the beginning and in the end. It's not too dramatic but a nice, cute, easy read mixed with some hotness. Definitely worth the read.
I gave this book a 4 star because of the story line and the characters. It could have had a 5 star except for the graphic sex and the continued use of the F word. This could have been a really great book to recommend if those had been left out completely, I would not recommend this book for anyone who is shocked by vulgar language and explicit sex. If you can get by skipping some pages and skipping over the use of the F word it would be a great read. I know there are many who appreciate erotic writing however this book was not listed as having explicit sex or rough language.
