Five archaeologists uncover a terror bird fossil in New Mexico with an eight inch diameter black sphere where its stomach should be. When all five touch the sphere they are transported inside a two hundred mile diameter, Pellucidar-like hollow world inhabited by animals that lived over two million years earlier. They see a pyramid on an island in the distant, upward curving horizon and spend several days crossing a wild landscape to reach the shore of the landlocked sea inside the hollow world. On the way they are attacked by ten foot tall terror birds and flee stampeding mega-bison while avoiding giant lions, massive crocodiles, and the denizens of the small ocean they need to cross to get to the island with the pyramid structure. Who will survive to discover the secret to this outside-in zoo out of time? Rating This is an 'M' rated work, NOT an "R' rated gore-fest. If you read this expecting graphic violence, you will be disappointed. It is a fun adventure that includes some relatively mild adult themes and language.
Fans of hardcore sci fiction will find this book to be a riveting and wild ride. Lots of non-stop action. Dalton and Amanda, two college students, are searching for fossils when Dalton comes across the bones of a long extinct terror bird. They soon find themselves inside a hollow world, an “outside-in” world,” which turns out to be one of many zoos built by the Kraezuls (“...the greatest species in the galaxy.”). Since I’m not a big fan of science fiction, I found some of the technical details a little cumbersome, but this aside, I still found much of the story fascinating. Whether you get there by zoo balls, tickets, or this book, sit back and enjoy the ride!
This has a good story line that moves quickly. I like that the violence is not overdone and the sex is implied, I know how to do it, I don't need it spelled out. It would have been nice to explore a few more habitats with the other teams, too. All in a good read.
