Skinny School, Where Women Learn the Secrets to Finally Get Thin Forever, is the humorous story of 28-year-old single-but-savvy Jackie Holbrook, who has struggled with an excess forty pounds for thirteen years. The secrets that Jackie learns in Skinny School “flip the switch” and enable her to get to her goal weight by teaching her the right mentality about food and eating. If you can learn to type, you can learn these 9 life-transforming secrets which will enable you to look at junk food, desserts, excess carbs, and sugar, and then be able to "choose to not have it”. This is the magic of the program, learning how to think so you can choose to eat for nutrition and hunger, not for self-soothing or entertainment. Soon you will hear yourself ask the sales clerk, "Do you have this dress in a size Small?"
"What a great book!! I just love-love-love Skinny School!! I hate it's over. I want to read it again. Can't wait to share this treasure-truly a treasure-with all I can. I can't express enough for how you have changed my life with these principles.... You will touch women all over the world!" Jeanne N.
"Skinny School has literally changed my life. I feel amazing and my light shines bright, meaning my inner joy and my love for people...I can only say that Skinny School is Truth. This book is so freeing." Jan C.
I have very mixed feelings about this book. I read this b/c someone on the message boards for the weight loss program I've been following said it was right in line with that program, and I was looking for some reinforcement of the knowledge. I like the idea in theory (combine a personal exploration workbook with a fictional story), but I did not love the execution. I also didn't care for the prescription of what to eat, which was not in line with the weight loss program I've been following. (In case you're curious, that program doesn't prescribe what to eat, just when and how.) I liked some of the wisdom and insight enough to finish despite heavy sizeist, ageist, mysogynistic, and heteronormative overtones. I do not plan to read any other books in this series.

A smart-but-overweight, sassy-but-underappreciated legal assistant gets a (secret) weight loss genie. You're cringing already, aren't you? Said genie proceeds to dole out weekly lessons on motivation, diet, and exercise. The legal assistant rolls her eyes, whines, and finally comes round, week after week.
But somehow this book is great! I really enjoyed reading it. It was cute (of course), the pacing was good, and... I don't know... it was just... uplifting. Really, really uplifting. The genie's advice isn't revolutionary in any way, but it's the kind of stuff that bears repeating. Hope you're equally entertained / amused / inspired by this book :)
This was my second read of the book. Essentially, it is a fictionalized diet book with romance. Or maybe romance with some advice. Listen, the genie is cringy, but I get it. Someone has to be giving the But the romance is sweet and I am losing weight by following the advice, so it's not a bad read. I have also joined the author's support support group where we are working through the accompanying workbook on Facebook. I am enjoying it.
Terrific plan. I would give 5 stars if there weren't so many typos and such. The writing isn't Jane Austin or anything either. But the plan, the repetition, and the ideas are very worth the 4 star review. I look forward to reading it again and following the exercises. I'll post an update if it works for me.
The book has some great motivations and good advice from the Genie. The main character kind of irritated me a little at times. Okay, she irritated me a lot at times. But, overall ... it's a fun read for a "diet book" and it actually keeps you interested all the way through. A unique book. I give it four stars for the good advice it provides and the creativity.
