As the author, I’m obviously biased, but I’m giving AFTERLANGUAGE a full 5 stars because I truly believe it’s a strong, heartfelt story that captures something important about the moment we’re living in.
The novel follows a linguist whose attempt to build a better world through language gets twisted into a tool of surveillance and control by a powerful corporate-AI regime. What begins as personal grief and loss spirals into a dangerous journey across parallel realities, resistance, and the fragile power of connection. I tried to balance big ideas—about language, AI, grief, and freedom—with intimate human stakes.
This book started from a late-night conversation with a close friend about whether words merely describe reality or actively shape it. After he passed away, that question became urgent. Layered on top was a social critique of where unchecked AI, surveillance systems, and corrupted power could lead us. The result is a story I’m proud of—one that feels especially relevant amid today’s growing anxieties around technology and control.
It’s not a flawless book, but I poured a lot into it and I stand by the final result. If you enjoy thoughtful speculative fiction with emotional depth, I hope it resonates with you. Thank you to anyone who reads it.
