Pregnant With the First Responder’s Baby by Kiki Voss is an emotional, tension-filled small-town romance that delivers both heart and heat in all the right places.
Natalie and Ethan’s story is built on years of hidden feelings, complicated loyalties, and one life-changing night that alters everything. Ethan, the steady first responder and lifelong “off-limits” figure as her brother’s best friend, is forced to confront emotions he’s spent years burying when Natalie discovers she’s pregnant. What follows is a mix of protective instincts, emotional hesitation, and small-town pressure that keeps the stakes constantly high.
What worked really well was the chemistry between the main characters—it’s immediate, layered, and emotionally charged, especially as Ethan shifts from emotional restraint to quiet devotion. Natalie also stands out as a strong heroine who wants more than just protection; she wants honesty, commitment, and to be truly chosen.
The story’s strength lies in its emotional tension and steady pacing. The small-town setting adds extra flavor with all the whispers, judgment, and loyalty conflicts that naturally escalate the drama. If there’s a minor drawback, it’s that some conflicts resolve a bit quickly, leaving me wanting just a little more depth in a few emotional moments.
Kiki Voss’s writing is engaging, accessible, and highly readable, with a strong focus on character chemistry and emotional stakes over unnecessary complications.
Overall, this is a heartfelt, addictive second-chance romance full of passion, conflict, and hope—perfect for readers who love forbidden love, unexpected pregnancy, and a hero who finally realizes what he stands to lose.

I enjoyed the premise of the book. I felt like there were quite a few discrepancies.
Example- the first OB appt Natalie was 8 weeks then 4 weeks later she was still 8 weeks not 12 weeks.
There was a lot of repeated phrasing “one of the most generous things he did”. “Sat between my ribs”, “catalogue without meaning”, “landed below sternum” these were a bit repetitive.

I feel like the timeline was inconsistent and seemed out of order. The intimate scenes were disjointed and seemed like it was multiple scenes being written about at one time. She would have multiple O’s and then the next paragraph would start undressing each other again and exploring. Multiple encounters where Ethan would say “tell me to stop and I’ll walk away/ I’ve wanted this for so long” just didn’t feel appropriate to keep saying every time they had sex.

Didn’t really understand the interdepartmental issue. Natalie is a teacher and her brother is a policeman, so why would it matter if there were a relationship between her and Ethan? Ethan was EMT who worked for the fire department. Seems like the author was trying to make a mountain out of a molehill with this to cause the drama in the book.

There is OW drama, but not how you would expect. There is no cheating or ex girlfriend/boyfriend to worry about.

Tropes-
OW drama- NO CHEATING
Big brother’s best friend
HEA
Small town hero
Slow burn

Over all I liked the story and look forward to reading another of her books.

I received an ARC copy and have been asked for a non biased honest review.

Ethan & Natalie's story is fast paced & full of slow burn tension & a lot of longing... they both secretly have liked each other for a while, but thought nothing could come of it...

Ethan is Natalie's brother's best friend... and a very public figure in their small town... so his boss is worried about the optics... especially when reporters/press get involved...

I enjoyed their story & how they made things work & there were a lot of fun tropes. I liked the characters. I appreciated how Ethan stood up & took responsibility when she told him she was pregnant...

This is Book 4 in the series Doctors of Desire, as interconnected standalones.

Spice level: 3/5

*first responder - he's an EMT
*she's a teacher
*small town romance
*he's her brother's best friend
*he's a public figure around town & well known
*surprise baby
*starts as a one night stand
*accidental pregnancy

Thank you to the author (Kiki Voss) & Booksprout for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

What an intense, heart-warming story of Natalie and Ethan who had feelings for each other since childhood. But with Ethan being best friends with Luke, Natalie’s brother, he knew she was off limits. But one night changed everything. A journalist starts snooping around gathering information on how personal and professional interactions affect the relationship with the community. When she singles out Ethan and Natalie, trouble begins. When Natalie finds out she is pregnant, will she tell Ethan and how will he handle it? Will he step in and be there for them? How will Luke react when he finds out? How will this all work out? The tension and challenges they endure makes this an entertaining story. The chemistry between Natalie and Ethan can be felt throughout the story.

Enjoyable story
Natalie and Ethan have history as his best friend is Natalie’s brother and the bro-code means that she is forever off limits.
Both being attracted to each other but never crossing the line until, they do, which also ends up with Natalie pregnant with his child.
The story is emotional at times and has a bit of drama with his best friend / her brother and then a journalist causing a lot of trouble between them and the townsfolk.
Kiki Voss is a new to me author.
I found this book interesting and engaging enjoying the storyline and the main characters however (I love a good steamy scene) but did feel that some of the steamy / bedroom scenes did not need to be so lengthy every time.
Thank you Kiki Voss for the opportunity to read this story.

So this one was a bit of a head scratcher for me in the beginning, but I can figure out what the issue was with the whole reporter and why she has it out for Ethan.
Natalie is like every other unprepared woman who gets caught up in "the moment" and has the face the consequences 🙄. There's nothing new there. Ethan is her crush, and she doesn't want to force him to be there.
Ethan has had the "feelings" for Natalie for some time now, but out of respect for her brother, his best friend, he didn't cross that line. Oops!
Overall, the ontext of the book is a great book, well written, main characters were well depicted.

“Pregnant With the First Responder’s Baby” by Kiki Voss

-This small-town romance is an emotional and engaging story filled with chemistry, drama, and long-hidden feelings. I received a free copy and am voluntarily sharing my honest thoughts.

Natalie and Ethan have loved each other for years, but being her brother’s best friend keeps Ethan from acting on those feelings until one life-changing night.
The unexpected pregnancy, town gossip, and a troublesome reporter create plenty of tension and challenges for the couple.
A sweet and entertaining romance with lovable characters, strong emotions, and a satisfying journey to happily ever after.

Book 4 of Doctors of Desire. Can be read as a standalone.

'Wanting her isn’t the problem. Losing her is.
And when the truth comes out, he’ll have to decide:
Stay the man who never crosses the line or fight for the woman who was never meant to be his.'

The characters were very complex and complicated and absolutely perfect together. Plot was intriguing and intense and well paced. World building was solidly drawn and impressive. All in all a great addition to the series. Enjoyed immensely and highly recommend.

Grab a copy, kick back and enjoy!.

What a great book, but be forewarned that it may cause you to lose a little sleep. Nathalie and Ethan will grab your attention at the beginning and you'll find this book hard to put down. He might be her brother's best friend and off limits but that doesn't stop the attraction. Their chemistry is off the charts, the drama is omnipresent and the sizzle is steaming. Small town romance at its best with plenty of whispers and secrets. An HEA and no cliffhanger. I read an arc and voluntarily chose to write a review.
