From New York Times bestselling author Joanne DeMaio comes The Architect, Book 27 of The Seaside Saga.

As a noted coastal architect, Jason Barlow designs homes that evoke the sea. Gabled, shingle-style New England cottages are his forte. Cottages that beautifully weather in the salt air. Cottages with grand porches; and rounded turrets; and fortress-like stonework speaking of the land, as well as his father’s legacy. Cottages with floor-to-ceiling windows bringing in the sea, the sky, that his brother so loved. But it’s not only incredible homes Jason builds and restores—it’s relationships and friendships and histories, all set against the backdrop of a beach that’s defined him.

After his very life is threatened, however, Jason Barlow shares a simple request with those to whom he’s closest. A request that has an old friend turn to The Architect now more than ever.

And The Seaside Saga continues.

The Architect by Joanne DeMaio continues the seaside saga. All the Stony Point family is there for us to continue to enjoy. This story focuses on Jason, Kyle and Shane. After finishing now book 27 of this series, I feel very close to all the characters and they’re all very believable. The men are still recovering from their incident in the diner and Shane is still struggling with what to do in terms of his future with Celia. He has made one decision and that is to buy the cottage he has been renting. This would lead us to believe he may take the next step with Celia but, I’m not so sure that’s going to happen. If you’re a fan of the series don’t miss this one. Enjoy.

The Architect is another wonderful visit to the community of Stony Point. I love reconnecting with all of the people of the area, who have essentially become my friends. I love the camaraderie and drama that ensues among all of the members of this quaint little town.

I'm always excited to get the newest story in the Seaside Saga and quickly devour it, anxious for the next installment. I highly recommend this series and this author.

Time spent with old friends.

I don’t think I’ve ever read a book or series in which I was as entrenched in the lives of the characters as this one. After 27 books now, I feel like I truly know them—their fears and doubts, their joys and sorrows, their loves and dreams. But with each new book, I learn even more, and this book reveals so much of Shane, Jason, Celia, Elsa, Kyle and rest—all of making me hopeful but nervous about what lies ahead for them! I’m excited to read what’s next!

In The Architect, the beach friends' story continues where The Diner left off. Author Joanne DeMaio transports the reader back to the tranquil seashore town of Stony Point, Connecticut. The story takes place during late October where the readers will catch up with the beach friends' lives.

Just like in the previous installments, The Architect is an intricate story of interweaving friendships and ever-changing life events. In this twenty-seventh installment in The Seaside Saga Series, the author features Jason's lingering reaction to the traumatic diner robbery, while also continuing to focus on Celia and Shane's relationship. And The Seaside Saga continues.

The Architect opens up with Shane telling Jason and Kyle some big news, and his spontaneous big news also surprises all of the beach friends, especially Celia. Then there is Jason who has a lingering reaction to the traumatic diner robbery, and he feels so grateful for his family and friends that he and Maris hold a thank you dinner with a Halloween theme. When the guests gather around Jason, the message he gives them is to live with purpose, which inspires everyone to embrace life more fully. As Jason struggled with the aftermath of the incident, I thought it was very sobering, but I loved Jason's message to everyone because it really puts life into perspective, and I too felt inspired by it.

I loved how this installment also continued to focus on Celia and Shane's relationship. As Shane's big news surprises everyone especially Celia, it changes the meaning of their long-distance relationship. While Shane flip flops if he made a rash decision or the right one, it is put to the test when Elsa and Cliff take a road trip to visit Shane in Maine. The visit was going well until Elsa confronts Shane about Celia, and he's left panicking about how the relationship will weather this storm, especially when Elsa tells him not to tell Celia about their conversation. Shane calls Jason and begs him to come up with a plan for him to save his relationship, that he's desperate and since Jason is an architect who draws up plans that can help him fix it ... but the author once again leaves the reader with another cliffhanger ending, we'll have to wait and see what Jason's plan is, and can Shane fix everything in The Novelists, the twenty-eighth installment of the series.

I would be remiss if I didn't mention that I loved a segment of the story where Jason and Shane film an abandoned property that features a historical architectural seaside mansion that was used as the old Seaside Sanatorium in Waterford, CT, that once housed children who had tuberculosis in the 1930s.The seaside property was used to cure the children with extensive exposure to the sea air and sunlight. "The sea air cures what ails you." I was so fascinated by this segment of the story that I googled it and was amazed at the beauty of the hospital. The Seaside Sanatorium is listed on the National Register of Historical Places. I loved that I learned something new, and Jason and Shane's filming definitely piqued my curiosity to research the abandoned property.

So now that I have whet your interest in the beach friends' latest comings and goings, drive under the railroad trestle and enter the enchanting beach town of Stony Point ... pull up a beach chair ... and visit with the close-knit longtime friends in author Joanne DeMaio's novel, The Architect.

The Seaside Saga Series is a heartwarming series of stories of friendship, family, painful secrets, lies and regrets, near tragedies, heartbreak, new beginnings and second chances. Author Joanne DeMaio weaves a wonderful tale written in the third person narrative, which is set in the present with flashbacks to the past. The reader is transported to the tranquil seashore town of Stony Point, Connecticut, where they follow along with Celia, Maris, Eva, Matt, Jason, Kyle, Lauren, Nick, Elsa, Cliff, Mitch, and Shane as their lives change like the tide's ebb and flow on their little tranquil coastal town.

Disclaimer: I received a copy of the book from the author in exchange for my honest review.

The Architect is the 27th book in Joanne DeMaio’s seaside saga. I have read the entire series and from doing so I have become very attached to all of the characters. In my mind they don’t seem like fictional characters but actually real live people that I can picture in my head. There are some characters that I tend to favor but overall every one of the characters portrayed in this series are really kind and loving individuals. This series shows how love and friendship is really the most fundamental part of living. These books all take place in Stony Point, Connecticut right along the shores of the ocean. It makes for the most beautiful backdrop just imagining being able to hear the oceans waves hit the shore, seeing the dune grasses blow, witnessing the oceans stars on the water at night and smelling the sweet salt air. This book centers around 2 different storylines which really held my interest. First it talks about Jason, the architect, and it gives us a better look at what life was like for him when his father and brother were still with him before the tragic accident. It was interesting to learn about where he went to college and his experiences with life and work before deciding to return to Stony Point to start his own architectural business. The second storyline centers around Shane, Elsa and Cliff. The thought of Elsa and Cliff taking a trip to Maine was something I didn’t see coming. But Elsa suspects that something is going on behind her back and she needs answers. I only hope that her addressing the issue doesn’t ruin things in the end. As usual, the author has left us with a cliffhanger so I will have to anxiously wait for the next book, The Novelists, which is set to release on September 2, 2026 to get my answers. If you haven’t started reading this seaside saga, believe me, you are really missing out! This was another 5 star read!

Architect starts out going over the trauma still affecting the ordeal Jason and Kyle went through in The Diner. Jason's reaction to The Diner robbery has him and Maris putting together a Halloween party to show their appreciation, love and support their family and friends have shown them. What this has shown Jason is that he needs to live with purpose, and he asks everyone there to do the same.
A nice added surprise is that Shane has bought the cottage he has been renting while in Stony Point (Celia was especially surprised).
Elsa and Cliff, deciding to live with purpose, travel to Maine and visit with Shane for a few days. They do some site seeing and have a nice dinner that Shane prepares. All goes well until Elsa tells Shane that she saw him and Celia together in San Francisco. This sends Shane into a tailspin, especially since Elsa doesn't want Celia to know about this - she wants Celia to tell her about this. This leaves Shane calling Jason for advice. I can't wait for the Novelist to see what transpires with Shane and Celia, as well as hoping to hear more about the book Maris putting together about Neil. If you haven't started reading this series, pick up Book 1 - Blue Jeans and Coffee Beans! You'll be as hooked as the rest of us are.

The Architect by Joanne Demaio is an interesting rom/com book, written in a unique style. I have not read any of Demario’s many books, so didn’t know what to expect.
I admit this book was outside my usual thriller/action/spy comfort zone. However, it was not like the typical romance stuff that bores me to tears. The story was compelling and the characters were interesting, even though I was meeting them well into their development over a series of books.
As I read I kept thinking that the writing style was odd, maybe quirky, but something about it kept me reading. I think it is because of the honesty of the writing. It often looked strange to me on the page, but as I read it, aloud sometimes, it sounded right.
The book consists of following the characters through normal days doing normal things. It might sound boring, but it really is not. It builds interest and commitment to these “people.”
I am going to read another book in the series and see if that satisfies my interest, or if I become a Demaio groupy!
I give this book four stars for being interesting and unique enough to get me through a book in this genre.

The Architect by Joanne DeMaio
Love this book because we get to catch up with everybody is doing since the last book.
Love the turmoil Shane has gotten himself into. It's catching up with him now....
We follow the crowd as they celebrate at Jason's house for a Halloween party. Love all the food sounds so good. Costumes are hilarious. I can just picture them for real.
Love that the characters are from all different age ranges and the problems they have, and how they are solving them.
Love book Maris is working on and all the new facts about Neil come to light with the last film Neil had shot before his death.
Love all the pieces of the puzzle are starting to fill in. Even with Cliff as the sailor during the hurricane that hit.
Love trip to Maine and how Elsa takes over the coffee shop the only way she can. Love hearing all the technical drawing terms and what they mean and how they are solved.

Some people think that after so many books one might get tired off reading about Jason, Kyle, Maris and the rest of the Stoney Point gang. However for some of us it is like revisiting family. I love it when I pick up one of her books, the only problem I see with them is that they are so hard to put down and you end up finishing them so quickly and then have to wait so long for the next one. But they are definitely worth the wait.

Reading them is like keeping in touch with friends or family. Shane and Celia and their relationship that they don;t want anyone to know about. Elsa and Cliff and their week long visit to see Shane in Maine and check out his life there. Jason and Maris when they invite the gang over for dinner to celebrate life since Kyle and Jason were in the robbery at the diner.

Check out the book I think you will enjoy it too.

I found The Architect to be a much more uplifting book, especially after the drama of the previous couple of books. It feels like a celebration of the fact that Jason and Kyle are alive. Jason's speech at the dinner with all of their friends is particularly meaningful, reminding readers to reflect on what truly matters in life.

Shane and Celia, however, are still at a crossroads in their relationship. I honestly think it's time for them to either make their relationship public or call it quits. The stress and uncertainty of their current situation just doesn't seem sustainable for either of them.

I'm looking forward to the next book in The Seaside Saga, "The Novelists". If you haven't started this series yet, I highly recommend it.

I liked the first 20 or so of this series but then something happened. The Architect was like the 4 previous, lots & lots & lots & lots of description, pages flipped thru because that's all there was. Was looking forward to this story due to the shooting that ended The Diner. It was barely even mentioned. Jason's speech at the Halloween dinner, that was supposedly a celebration, was nice but really a Halloween themed dinner to celebrate life?!?!?! And then once again, the book mostly centered around Shane, not Jason. My hope now is the next book, number 28 will finally end the series, especially when it ended several books ago.

Loved this installment of the Seaside Saga series. Each book gets better and better as the Stony Point’s characters deal with different events that take place in their lives, whether it’s things that took place in their past or things that currently happen in their present lives. My heart goes out to Jasonnas he misses his brother Neil and his father, love the continuing chemistry between Shane and Celia and Elsa and Cliff. And of course my jaw hit the floor when a secret is revealed in Shane‘s life that he had rather kept a secret. Can’t wait to read the next book in this awesome series. Highly recommend!!!

Trick or Treat

Halloween time has come to Stony Point, bringing with it a series of tricks and treats. Jason and Maris’ anniversary - treat. Shane’s big announcement - treat. The costume party with the cursed game - trick and treat. Elsa deciding to finally accept Shane’s invitation to visit Maine treat that turns into a trick. No spoilers, but things aren’t going well for Shane who has to keep secrets from Celia. This cliffhanger ending has me anxious for the September 2 release of The Novelist - surely, Joanne won’t let us Team Shane fans down.

Wow! From book 1 of this series, I have been drawn into the lives of an amazing group of friends in the beach town of Stony Point, Connecticut. Through thick and thin they remain the best of friends and are always there to support each other. THE ARCHITECT continues the ongoing saga of Celia and Shane, and Jason’s reaction to the robbery at his diner.
I highly recommend this series. Please start at the beginning and become part of this wonderful group of friends!

Truth

What is the meaning of truth? Is it just telling the truth? Is it always just telling people what they want to hear? What if truth is private, or sacred do you need to share🙂 Everyone has a different opinion. Be sure to share your thoughts and and be kind to one another💓

Still too much repetition. Instead of 26 short stories I would like it all condensed to one book.

Too much repetition. No need to go into such detail of what everyone is wearing. Instead of the 26 "short stories" condense into one maybe two books.

This book in the Seaside series was one that tugged at my heart.
It seems as if some of the characters were happy, but others were conflicted. Not only does the author bring the characters of Stony Point alive on the pages, but she also brings them to life in the hearts of her readers. We have become involved and want only the best for them. But when the best doesn’t happen, we feel that too. I listened to the audio version and the narrator, Steven Barnett did a wonderful narration of the depth of feelings for each character. An emotional and wonderful book. Thank you to the author for this book. This review is my opinion without remuneration.

Long series. I don’t like the ending of the books anymore because it’s really not an end at all! Just keeps on going and going like another chapter. It wasn’t like that in her earlier books!

Shane & Celia

Like the progression in Shane & Delta's relationship. I think Shane just needs to go to work with Jason in Stoney Point & that would solve the problem.

I love these characters as they are my own friends and family! This group has been through so much! Just want a happy storyline for them and Joanne does this but not in a hallmark perfect world way she is real about it because we’re all human after all and have feelings and emotions and tend to overthink sometimes! I’m sure everything will work out can’t wait for the next book!
