Ruined by the Earl
After losing all of his money in a reckless bet, Logan Breckman, the Earl of Toplyn, needs to marry a lady from a wealthy family–and fast. So he does the only thing he can think of and picks one at random to trick into marriage. Unfortunately for Miss Melissa Jasper, she happens to be in the right place at the wrong time. Before she knows it, he comes up to her carriage and kisses her…and she is doomed. Now she can’t marry the gentleman she was hoping to and she’s bound to a cad who thinks of little else but himself. Logan is the first to admit he’s far from perfect, but being with a gentleman who knows how to ignite a passionate spark is a lot better than being stuck with one who’ll put a lady to sleep. Of course, she won’t thank him for forcing her hand in marriage yet. But he has no doubt that sooner or later, she’ll come to understand he’s the best thing that’s ever happened to her.

Okay, this one fell off the wagon for me from Ms. Nordin. Not only did I become irritated with the heroine..as she cried so much it was annoying. The hero was no better, he had a humbling ego and arrogance that was hitting on my nerve. I lost interest early on because of the whining heroine and the overly confident hero. Just put me off and I hate to say that this one just did not work for me although I finished. The ending was a bit off and rushed also.

I've been putting this one off for awhile for a few reasons. The major reason was due to the reviews, which I have now found to be grossly innacurrate.
The reviews I read claim the heroine was a crying sniveling shrew and the hero so charming and wonderful that she didn't deserve him. Wrong and wrong.
The reviews also commented on her brother's intervention between the couple as being upsetting and wrong. I did not feel that in the least!
Hero Logan needs money to get himself out of a debt, and fast. Therefore he creates a scandal with a wealthy woman and forces her to marry him. He does this by kissing her in public and delcaring(lies) they had a tryst in the gardens. (So much for Logan never lying).
Heorine (Melissa) is devasted. She was in love with another who was about to propose to her and now her life is ruined.
Logan is a conceited, arrogant greedy and selfish man. He only ever thinks about himself. He tells the heorine point blank he only wanted her money, cares nothing for her and that she's better off with him because he's a better man than her love Lord Wexman.
Of course she's crying! Who wouldn't! Everyone also seems to be against her and forcing her to marry the dispicable Logan. Even her parents! Her only ally is her brother Malcolm. He does everything he can to try to end the marriage, but fails at every attempt. Logan won't be bought off, so Malcolm challanges him to a duel.. and loses. He doesn't die, but is injured.
Needless to say I HATED the hero for about 65% of the book. I was so furious!
I normally would have quit the book if it was any other author, but since I have read almost 30 of Ms. Nordins books, all of which never disappointed me (except 1) I trusted that she would turn this hero around. And she did! I was getting nervous, wondering how she was going to make me like him so late in the read, but she managed it! Now THAT's writing!
Anyway to dispelled the reviews:
1. Yes the heroine cried a lot, but it was understandable. It was all logical, and I would have done the same.
2. The hero was NOT perfect and charming.. in fact he did not deserve her! I still wish he was made to feel some pain at his treatment of the heroine. He needed to see how wrong he was in a more painful way. He needed to grovel.. unfortunately we didn't get that. Luckily, the fantastic heroine cleared the way for him. She began to see how lonely and friendless Logan truly was, and saw that his arrogance was a sheild for him, and that deep down he was a caring and good man.
3. Malcolm, the heroine's brother did what any brother would have done. He saw how Miserable Melissa was, and tried his best to help her. He was NOT wrong in his actions whatsoever.
All of the charcters were well developed and stayed true to their nature. My only regrets is the hero needed to be taken down a peg or three, he needed to be punched, or made to feel bad about himself for what he did and GROVEL!
The heroine may have seemed weak, but this was the times folks. You didn't go against your parents and scandal was something that in high society needed to be avoided at all costs!
In the end, I did like Logan, but I didn't love him. What I did like was the emotions the book gave me, even though they were mostly negative. I read this in one day and couldn't put it down.
Oh! also, Logan comes off as lo0oking like a rake, but he's not. He has no experience with women at all. His arrogance makes him seem that way, but he's not. This was his one saving grace. If he was a manwhore, I would have quit the book.
I would recommend this to those who like more emotions in their reads, yet want to avoid safety issues.

Hero REALLY married her for the money.
She was just a random rich girl to him who was at the wrong place at the wrong time for him to be able to exploit.
The fact that the OM turned out to be not so stellar is besides the point.
Heroine had no choice in the matter. She was forced and trapped into the marriage.
Even later he didn't stop thinking about the money and he rather enjoyed having her money. If she was dirt poor or if he'd have to choose between money and her, he'd choose money.
I didn't see the love happening.
He saw her as a challenge. As she didn't just accept her fate and kept on trying to resist the marriage until the end, I don't doubt he found her fascinating but that's all there was.
She was just in lust, and rebound.
She just found out she has been easily replaced for the love of her life.
So she just decided to go with the flow.
She hadn't mellowed down a single bit until she found the OM's reputation or declaration of love to be not so impeccable after all.
I absolutely do not believe in the HEA. Well it IS regency so no divorce there, but I feel she might after all get over the proper lady BS and slow poison him.

I liked this one a lot. It had more angst than other books by this author and the hero starts off as a horrible jerk who openly causes a scandal to trap the heroine into marrying him just for her money. I don’t mind an asshole hero who does terrible things in the beginning to get the girl as long as he’s redeemed in the end. The hero ticks off all the boxes for being selfish, conceited and obtuse. He doesn’t get why the heroine is so devastated to marry him
A lot of reviewers were pissed because the heroine cried a lot. Honestly, I would’ve been bawling too. In her perspective she’s marrying a callous, selfish, conceited ass who was happy to destroy her happiness just to get his hands on her money. She was in love with another man, looking forward to a life with him and with one forced kiss from the hero, she loses everything. She had every right to cry
So the road to their love is a bit bumpy. Hero may have chosen his bride at random and married her for her money but her backbone and feistiness has him quickly falling for her. Heroine eventually sees that underneath the hero’s selfishness and cavalier attitude is a man with a good heart, who is lonely and struggling to care for his family. He is imperfect, but she falls for him and realizes that even with all his faults, he is the better man than the one she first had her heart set on.
Even tho this is dual virgins, there is the OM in the story and heroine believes herself in love with him and allows him to Kiss her goodbye. Other than that it’s safe. No ow, no cheating or abuse. HEA with epilogue

I have to admit that neither MC was very likable, especially at the beginning of the story (and well into the middle, too). The heroine cried A LOT and had a pretty caustic tongue. It also certainly seemed like the hero didn't care about anybody other than himself. However, I do feel like they both redeemed themselves by the end. Once their motivations for doing certain things came to light, it did make me view both of them differently. All told, this wasn't my favourite RAN, but I did like both characters by the end.

A cad by any other name is still a cad
Logan is a cad, and in desperate need of money. He'd placed a bet that he couldn't afford to lose, that the Duke of Ashbourne couldn't find a wife by the end of the month. When the Duke does just that by kissing someone scandalously at a ball (Love Lessons with the Duke), Logan is frantic. He grabs the nearest wealthy woman and kisses her publicly, too. Two scandalous kisses at the same ball, both leading to marriage. In the previous book, the Duke and his lady were already more than halfway in love before their kiss, but in this book Logan barely knows his chosen bride, and she's on the cusp of betrothal to the man of her dreams. Needless to say, she doesn't take it well.
This book caused a dilemma for me: I couldn't wait to turn the page and see what happens next, yet every page got me closer to the end, and I didn't want it to end. I hope to see more of this couple in the future.

Simple but sweet love story
So far all of the books I have read by this author are sweet and simple love stories with humor thrown in. Usually the books will lead up to a scandal but a scandal is what prompts Logan to create his own. If he would have known what he was gaining by having Malcolm as a brother-in-law, I wonder if he would have gone through with it. Both Logan and Malcolm add the humor. Melissa has her heart set on marrying someone else and will not give Logan a chance. His persistence pays off and she finally starts to see the many different sides to Logan. She is finally won completely over after meeting his family, much to Malcolm's horror. I wish the book would have been longer but it is still an enjoyable love story to read

Romance at its best!
Ruth Ann Nordin writes her stories to keep your interest to find out what will happen next. This book has a few unexpected surprises and lots of humor. I am sure you will enjoy this book as much as I have. Happy reading!!

Good Read
Very enjoyable and more original story plot. The main characters are very likable. Wishing the book before this one was as good.

It was a pretty good story until the last quarter where it just kind of felt like it dragged a little. I really liked Logan's character.

Picks right up from the other story. I didn't know anyone could cry that much.

Starts just near the end of Love Lessons with the Duke.
Lots of fun bits & pieces & so nice to see the Earl of Toplyn in a better light. He definitely seemed like a cad in the last book. And you need to read these in order!!

It took me a long time to start to like Logan. He truly was the cad Melissa thought him to be. But as in all good romances, things come together and work out for the best. Once again the author brings in a few characters from past books such as, the infamous rake Lord Edon and Lord Roderick from the Marriage by Scandal series.

Inspired by the Duke....
Logan Breckman, the Earl of Toplyn was about to lose his shirt off a foolish wager he made regarding the Duke of Ashbourne procuring a wife in one month! He lost thanks to my friend Christopher Robinson's manipulation of the Duke to kiss the girl of his choice. In immolation of the Duke Logan selected Melissa Jasper who is about to become engaged with Lord Waxman, for a kiss, naturally they must marry since she was' compromised'! After weeks of recriminations and soaked hankies love blooms on both sides! And guess what, Lord Toplyn is not such a bad guy after all.

Logan is one of those people that is just socially awkward. He doesn't know when to keep quiet and has no problem butting into other people's conversations. Underneath all of that is a wonderful man, who is kind and thoughtful. Once Melissa gets over the shock of being thrown into a scandal and a hasty marriage, she comes to see how perfect Logan is for her. I had to shake my head at all the attempts her brother Malcolm makes to stop the marriage.

Another interesting romance from Ms Nordin. Easy to read, engaging and nicely written.

A decent story but the heroine was such a ninny it was hard to connect until late in the plot.
