Meera Paswan thought she had earned her place on one of the most high-profile cybersecurity projects of her career.
She was wrong.
Alaric Mercer doesn’t choose people by accident. Powerful, controlled, and impossible to read, he keeps his world locked behind walls no one has ever broken.
And now, Meera is inside it.
What begins as a professional partnership quickly turns into something far more dangerous. Accidents don’t feel like accidents. Eyes seem to follow her. And every time things spiral out of control… Alaric is there.
Watching. Stepping in. Saving her.
But the closer Meera gets to the truth, the more unsettling it becomes.
Because trusting him might be her biggest mistake... and the man she’s beginning to rely on may be the very reason she’s in danger at all.
In a world built on lies, coded loyalty, and buried pasts, trust becomes the deadliest gamble.
Love can break firewalls. Secrets can burn worlds.
— CEO × CEO Forced Proximity Slow Burn Clean Romance Romantic Suspense
Meera earned her place on a high profile project in cyber security… didn’t she? Alaric strategically selects people how he sees fit. He is after all a powerful man and always in control. Meera starts to feel like she’s being watched, and what started as a professional relationship starts to feel dangerous to her and Alaric always seems to be there… As Meera gets closer to the truth however, the darker and more disturbing it becomes. Was trusting Alaric a big mistake? Is Alaric in fact the very reason Meera is in danger?
The Pros: 1) You don’t know who to trust 2) There is a mix of genres: *Mystery *Thriller *Suspense *Romance 3) I was a fan of the romance in the latter half of the book 4) With tropes including: *Forced proximity *Slow burn *Clean romance *And romantic suspense
The Cons: 1) I felt there were some pacing issues especially at the start of the book and around the 3rd act. 2) Neither of the main characters are particularly likeable at the start of the story. Meera comes across as combative and too sharp and Alaric as controlling and entitled. They do both have character arcs though.
The Quotes:
1) “I used to think I was the most stubborn person alive,” he said, a low chuckle humming against her ear. But clearly...you’re miles ahead.”
2) “Protection without consent isn’t protection,” she said, eyes fixed straight ahead. “It’s controlling.”
3) “I know I’m looking good,” he said. But please... stop staring. You’re making me uncomfortable.” He turned his face toward her, a faint twitch playing at the corner of his lips.
The Summary: This story is almost told in two parts, a before and after story. The characters are very different at the start: Meera is combative and too sharp, whereas Alaric is controlling and entitled. It’s a bit hard to root for characters when you don’t particulary like them. However, they both have arcs throughout the story and I much preferred the latter half of the book. The story is quite hard to pinpoint in description as there are a lot of different genres: it’s a mystery, a romantic suspense, a thriller etc. I did find the pacing could have been improved at the start of the book and around the 3rd act - as it felt like it was a bit too slow in those areas. Overall I found this read really intriguing!
Summed up in a sentence?: Meera starts working with Alaric - but is he all he seems?
I rated the book 4 stars.
Many thanks to the author for the free ARC for an open and honest review!
This is the debut novel for Nisha J. At the end she indicates that Meera and Alaric's story is complete, but it's not the end of this world. I do wonder is she is meaning the Morally Gray CEO world? Or if she is going to write some of the side characters stories?
I was quickly pulled in to the story and it kept my interest to the end. The suspense of this book is really trying to figure out what is going on and who is orchestrating the events and why. I do have to admit that I did figure out about 90% of it. The suspense also really doesn't go all the way to the end. About midway through, there is a shift in the story. While the shift did keep my interest, I felt that the story started to drag slightly for a minute.
Meera and Alaric are both CEOs and at first do not get along. Alaric is commanding and strikes enough fear to get what he wants. Meera is driven and basically trying to prove that she earned her position in her father's company. This is a slow burn romance, but feelings and sparks are not quick to enter the story. I felt it was almost to the half way mark before feelings started to shift. It was also this halfway mark that the characters start to soften a little and then that is when I started to want to ship them.
I did like how the story concluded - even through Meera is still kept in the dark about one piece.
While this is closed door, it is a dark CEO corporate story and has elements of attempted murder, death of parents (in the past), betrayal, mild language, infidelity (slight mention), suicide (in the past off page), and revenge.
I received an advance copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Quotes: "People who show you who they are are far easier to deal with than those who pretend to be something else."
"People change."
"...he felt is settle at last...the quiet certainty of having found what he had been praying for all along."
"...she collapsed further into him, letting him hold every piece of her that had broken open."
Honestly, where do I start?! I went into this story not knowing what to expect. This story stayed surprising me. Just when I thought I knew somethin, the whole plot would shift. What an adventure! To start off, this book is great for people who love a good mystery, romance, and some thrill while reading. My heart was racing for SURE. There were many times while reading when I thought I figured someone out and then was left completely surprised. This story follows what one could say a feud between Meera and Alaric.
Meera is figuring out how to navigate her father’s business after his unexpected passing. All Meera has left is her uncle, her uncle’s wife, and her friend Viren. Things are going smoothly after she pitches a new idea of a company she wants to secure a deal with. That is until Alaric joins the picture. Of course, they can’t stand each other but she soon learns that she has to once she discovers that he’s the true CEO.
One can say that they were destined to meet. Was is coincidentally though? Honestly, you need to read and find out. There’s so many unexpected twists and turns in the story. For example, as Meera begins this partnership with Alaric… someone shares that they’ve worked with Alaric’s father. Alaric, the very mysterious CEO that doesn’t have a trace of his past open to the public? Of course Meera’s interest is peaked and she starts to uncover things she never anticipate. I absolutely love when authors reach out to me on Instagram! It always makes my day, and I love having the opportunity to support indie authors.
When Nisha J offered me the chance to read her debut novel, *Dangerous Devotion*, I was excited to step outside my usual genre—and I'm so glad I did. This romantic suspense had me hooked from the very beginning.
The story follows Meera, a powerful CEO in the tech industry who takes over her father's company after his tragic death. When she partners with another CEO, Alaric, the sparks start flying immediately. Their chemistry, tension, and witty banter were everything I love in a romance.
And can we talk about those plot twists? The last 200 pages had my jaw on the floor. Every time I thought I knew what was happening, the story threw another surprise my way. I genuinely could not believe some of the revelations!
This was an exciting and suspenseful read, and I can't wait to see what comes next from Nisha J and this world.
📚 clean romantic suspense; 📚 no spice, no swearing, no rude words; 📚 tropes 🔐 CEO x CEO; 🔐 cybersecurity; 🔐 forced proximity; 🔐 slow burn; 🔐 clean romance; 🔐 mystery.
Now here's my honest review...
Guys, it's an amazing novel 🥰🥰🥰
If you like romantic suspense and mystery, then this novel is for you 🤩
It's a love story about Meera and Alaric, who are both CEOs.
When I started this novel, I didn't know what to expect because I've never read romantic suspense before. And it was really intriguing because I never knew what would happen next with all the mysteries surrounding Meera. There were a lot of unanswered questions, and I desperately wanted to know what happened next. It was more interesting than any detective story I've read before 🏆 But it isn't a detective story, it's far more interesting; it's a romantic suspense novel.
I definitely recommend you read this novel, you will never regret it 🤗
Disclaimer: I received a complimentary advance copy from the author, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review.
This looks like a genuinely gripping romantic thriller. The "forced proximity" dynamic combined with a high-stakes corporate espionage or tech setting always makes for a massive page-turner.
What works incredibly well here is the immediate sense of paranoia. Having a protector who might actually be the puppet master behind the danger introduces a fantastic layer of psychological tension. It keeps the reader constantly second-guessing Alaric’s motives—wondering whether his rescues are genuine or just calculated moves to keep Meera dependent on him.
The tagline at the end balances the romance and tech themes perfectly without sounding cliché. It promises a fast-paced, high-anxiety plot where the emotional stakes are just as high as the physical ones. For anyone who loves a dark, calculating alpha lead and a smart heroine caught in a web of secrets, this setup completely hooks you from the start.
From the get go I really was questioning who Meera should trust and who the real bad guys were. This book was full of twists, suspense and tension.
Alaric is intense and his moods had me questioning whether he was a protector or destroyer for a good share of the book. I was able to predict and guess quite a bit of the story. However, the plot twist at 75% threw me off! It got crazy and was a wild ride. The longing that's borderline obsessed.
Meera has so many unknowns and I was rooting for her. She's strong, but also vulnerable underneath and doesn't know why she feels this intense pull to things. Her life feels safe but also dangerous. The entire part of the book in Finland was such a good ending and relief to see how she could encompass both sides of herself.
This was book and was set in places that were foreign to me, so it was fun and interesting to read about other places and cultures.
This was a thoroughly enjoyable read and a great choice for anyone looking to get into the mystery-suspense genre.
The story features two strong, determined CEOs who refuse to back down, making for an engaging dynamic from the very beginning. I especially enjoyed the slow-burn tension between the protagonists, which was developed beautifully and kept me invested in both the mystery and the romance.
I was able to guess the identity of the main culprit fairly early on, but that didn't take away from my enjoyment. The engaging characters, steady pacing, and well-written suspense ensured that I remained hooked until the very end.
Overall, this was a highly readable and entertaining mystery with just the right balance of suspense and romance. If you're new to mystery-suspense or simply looking for a fast-paced, enjoyable read, this is definitely worth picking up.
I picked it up for the romance but stayed for all the secrets and suspense. Every time I thought I had things figured out, something else happened and I had to keep reading.
Alaric was giving mysterious, protective, and “I know more than I’m saying” vibes the entire book, and I was here for it. The tension between him and Meera kept me hooked from start to finish.
I also loved that it wasn’t just romance. There was mystery, danger, secrets, and enough twists to keep me guessing.
If you love slow burns, protective MMCs, forced proximity, and books that keep you wondering who you can trust, definitely add this one to your TBR.
This was such a fun read and I couldn’t put it down.
3.5⭐️’s Arc Review. Dangerous devotion is a CEO X CEO Romance, packed with romantic suspense, mystery, forced proximity, revenge, banter, secrets, lies, betrayal, angst and yearning. Meera has recently taken over the CEO position of her late father’s company where she is working on a deal to partner with another company on a new cyber-security project, when CEO Alaric decides to take the lead and work side by side with Meera. Meera is smart, driven and determined to prove herself to the world that she is capable of running her late father’s company. Alaric is powerful, calculated, controlling and full of secrets. I found myself intrigued early on with the dynamics, and tension between Meera and Alaric, and was rather entertained by their banter and the way Alaric antagonised Meera. I also loved the angst and yearning within the second half and really felt for Alaric. Overall, I thought the romance and suspense was well balanced and kept me engaged in the story. I really enjoyed the suspense and mystery aspects of the story and loved Meera and Alarics journey together.
Dangerous Devotion is a romantic suspense packed with emotions, betrayal, healing, secrets, lies, and grief. The story is divided into two parts, and each part beautifully showcases the remarkable character development of both the main characters.
Meera, is undoubtedly the center of the narrative, and everything revolves around her journey. Watching her navigate the highs and lows, face painful truths, and grow through every challenge made her a memorable and compelling protagonist.
The book is quite long, so it took me some time to connect with it in the beginning. However, the suspense kept me hooked throughout.
If you enjoy emotionally driven romantic suspense with layered characters and meaningful growth, ad. Dangerous Devotion in your tbr!!
This romantic thriller had me on the edge of my seat!
I have never read a romantic thriller story before, and this one was oh so good! Think mafia vibes but make it cybersecurity. Meera begins our story as a headstrong, stubborn, yet truly dedicated young woman who has been through so much loss and grief. And I will say that I wasn’t so sure about our main male character, Alaric, who was mysterious, cunning, sometimes ruthless, and used his commanding presence to hide his own scars and deeply rooted pain. Let’s just say he redeemed himself by the end. This was truly a rivals, forced proximity, turned into enemies, while also falling in love kind of story and it’s filled with a redemption arc that I will never forget.

Meera lands a role on a high-profile cybersecurity project but quickly begins to question how she got there. Alaric, powerful and always in control, seems to be pulling the strings. As Meera starts to feel watched, their professional relationship turns tense and dangerous. The deeper she digs, the darker things become, leaving her wondering if trusting Alaric was a mistake, or if he’s the reason she’s in danger.
This book blends mystery, thriller, suspense, and romance, keeping you guessing about who to trust. The slow-burn romance and forced proximity were strong highlights, especially in the second half. While the pacing is uneven at times, particularly at the beginning and near the end, and the main characters aren’t very likable early on, both experience solid growth that makes the story more engaging as it progresses.
Alaric’s mysterious, protective nature and the tension between him and Meera kept me hooked. I came here for the romance because that is my jam, but this suspense had me on the edge of my seat. The mix of danger, secrets, and cultural elements added depth, and the unexpected twists made it hard to put down.
A compelling, twist-filled story with a slow-burn romance and plenty of intrigue, perfect if you enjoy morally gray characters and not knowing who to trust.
Although I tend to like me some dual POVs, reading a third person narration was a little hard but Nisha was able to keep me entertained. If this what we get from her debut, I am excited to see what we have in store for her next book.
Many thanks to the author for the free ARC for an open and honest review!
An interesting debut novel for Nisha! While it may not be the most polished book, it was an interesting read and an overall success!
I find most books I read these days are told in first person so it took me a bit to adjust to the third person narration here but once I did the story started flowing. If you like morally grey business tycoon, betrayal, Indian culture representation and drama than this book is for you! There was a little bit of mystery weaved into this non-spicy romance that worked really well. There is even a twist even I didn't see coming!
Congratulations Nisha! Excited to see where you go from here!
What a wild ride this book was! It’s a mix of mystery, thriller, suspense and romance… what more could you ask for?! It had me questioning myself and who I should trust throughout the whole book!
I absolutely loved the banter and burning tension between the two MCs🔥 the forced proximity and slow burn romance throughout the second half of the book was so good!
It was the perfect mix of danger, secrets and twists! It had me hooked and needing to know where the book was going to go!
If you enjoy - mystery, suspense, slow burn romance, tension and clean romance… I would recommend picking this one up!
I went into this book pretty blind not really knowing who to expect. I really enjoyed it! There was suspense, mystery and just when you think you know what’s going to happen BAM plot twists and the whole thing changes! I loved that aspect I enjoyed being mentally thrown about in a good way! It kept the story fresh and you intrigued.
After her father’s death, Meera is trying to figure out how to run his business. Things begin to run smooth that is until Alaric enters the building and everything changes. Enemies to lovers? You’ll have to pick it up to find out!
I had the opportunity to read an advance copy of Dangerous Devotion by Nisha J. which is a slow-burn corporate romance, with a compelling mystery. I really enjoyed the storyline and pacing of this novel. The story built to a shocking twist half-way through, and from there the suspense really built. I really like how the romance complimented the story rather than overshadowing it. It worked in tandem with the mystery to move the plot forward.
First I want to thank you the author for giving me a copy to review and all my thoughts are my own .
This book is the debut book by nisha j and I’m not sure how to classify it. At its core I would say it is a romance but is also filled with suspense and mystery . This book is almost told in two parts. Before meera and after. Alaric in the beginning is a hard man and he is ruthless and is seeking revenge and to take those that destroyed his family down as well. But when something happens he is utterly destroyed and falls apart. He will do anything for but he is unable to find what he is looking for no matter how he tries. In the end he finds what he is missing in the least likely place .
“Even after everything… Even with every memory crashing back into her… She slept in his arms like he was the safest place she had left.”
