It’s the tale of Tyler, his endeavor, and his experiences.
As a matter of first importance, the beginning verses and verse lines make this book sound like some recorded fiction or a thriller that should be perused earnestly.
The story begins with a sound discussion and afterward hero of the book Tyler needs to experience a few chances, some great and some terrible things while in transit to his fate.
The depiction of Tyler is touch however with entirely solid creative energy that requests an incredible consideration.
The option of outsider includes the validity in the story that makes readers hooked to book and in the event that it happens, you finish this book inside of 4-5 hours.
The portrayal aptitude and creative energy of the author is simply distinctive one from what we see generally.
BookRature would recommend this book to all readers who need to look for some adjustment in their reading propensities.
I would like to read more books from Matthew Butler.

April 7, 2015A very exciting read, packed with intense imagery. The Ghatus and the shapeshifters loomed large, the brushstrokes of myth are boldly drawn. So many layers of narrative, the potency of the spider, still to be revealed, the evil Dhimori. The plot weaves with interest and momentum so that one journeys with Tyler in his world of adventure and within his consciousness and dreams. The interweaving of poetry, the beautifully drawn illustrations [author illustrated] show that Matthew Butler has a deft and imaginative touch. I look forward to the trilogy, write on! A book that transcends generations, Tolkienesque, fun for adults to read to young children, great for young adults.

Can't be bothered to finish this, the language is a bit overwrought, it needs more editing and the story is messy...

"Fair Avalon, I call thee now; thy hour has arrived."
I won a giveway to get this book! I am giving an honest review in very sincere appreciation for this gift.
This book was pretty good. Tyler is an orphan, when "Death comes knocking". Bitten by a spider and given a stone (combined to be Avalon's Blessing), he is sent off to reach a land where he can understand how the radioacti- I mean magical bite can be explained. He is kept safe while traveling by Varkon, who is a ghatu(kinda reminds me of a drow elf???). Varkon is an outcast of the ghatu but their vows are very serious. During their escape to the other land they have issues of course! One being the new powerful dreams Tyler starts to have. I don't think I can explain too much more with out spoilers. Great book leaves off ready for the next to continue.
The book has several poems/songs throughout and they are wonderful and magical. And I simply love when authors do illustrations!
Why this wasn't a 5 star for me, if I were a preteen boy it would be. In fact I look forward to sharing this book with my son when he is older. The book felt very male, nothing wrong with that at all but I'm a little disappointed. The big evil is called "She". I don't see or I guess recall any major strong and positive relationships that are male & female. This could be different in the next book though!

Wondrous tale of dreams and fantasy
The beginning was perhaps a little plain, deceptively plain as it turns out! It doesn't take too long to find out that what we have here is a really interesting and complicated fantasy world, with its own new sets of rules and peoples.
I really enjoyed the journey and I cannot wait for more! Do not let the cover fool you, this ain't no kids book.

This is a goodlooking book and I do like when books look good. Graphic design, illustrations and typography are satisfactory. It's a nice story but it is told a bit to simplified. The story and the characters would benefit from a bit more depth. The language on the other hand is a bit to elaborate, it needs to be sharper. Beware of adverbs.

A wonderful young adult book for us older adults
This book had me caught up in the adventure immediately. I felt as though I was right there with Tyler the whole journey!
I recommend this book to anyone old enough to read and I can't wait until Book 2 comes out!
