The first issue is an interesting story that's written backwards starting with the end and the pages counting down. The Doctor is stepping back through time while his companions move forward. The rest of the issues tie up the Serve You storyline started in Volume 1. I found this a tad needlessly convoluted and even a bit boring. But I do love the 2 new companions, David Bowie and the librarian.

Que maravilla de cómic ha sido. Me ha encantado de principio a fin, lo he disfrutado mucho, me ha parecido digno de Doctor Who. De hecho, me dicen que hacen esto parte de la serie de televisión en vez de alguna temporada ( y no miro a ninguna, sobre todo a la once…) y lo compro totalmente. Este tomo es continuación directa de lo que vimos en el anterior “Vida Tras la Muerte”. El Doctor sigue viajando en su TARDIS con Alice, Jones y Arc, un cuarteto que deberá hacer frente a la maligna organización Teservimossa .

Hay de todo en este cómic, sin duda hará las delicias de todo fan de la serie: hay enemigos peligrosos y malvados; paradojas y locuras temporales varias; razas en guerra; giros de guión que te dejan con ganas de seguir leyendo; y mucha, mucha, adrenalina y aventuras. Y el Doctor siendo el Doctor en su estado más puro. Recordando al lector porque se le ama tanto, lo genial, loco, imprudente, pacifista e imperfecto que es, y de ahí que sea el alíen más humano y genial que puedas encontrarte en todo el universo. Y también hay algunas referencias al show televisivo que te ponen el corazón calentito, como esa mención a Rory (él y Amy siempre de mis companions preferidos) o a lo poco que le gustan al Doctor las bibliotecas que quieren comerle (que gran arco el de la Biblioteca de los Muertos)

Me encantan los compañeros que el Doctor tiene en estas aventuras. Alice es fantastica, valiente e inteligente, con personalidad propia y un arco emocional interesante y bien llevado, que hace que el personaje evolucione y el lector empatice con ella. Cuando se hacia pasar por el Doctor no podía dejar de pensar en la poco valorada Martha Jones (que sepas que tienes fans entre los Whovians y yo estoy entre ellos) y que ha pretendido ser el Doctor mejor que Clara Oswald en un episodio de la serie. David Bowie… uy, digo John Jones, puede parecer muy desdibujado, pero también es un personaje muy interesante por su poder camaleónico y sus mil y un diseños de personaje. Y cuando es necesario, el tipo sabe dar el callo, aunque esta vez haya sido en el último capitulo del tomo. Mención especial para Arc. Como me enternece este bicho y como sufro con él…

Como ya dije antes, el tomo forma parte de un arco más amplio que, creo, seguirá en el siguiente volumen de la serie. La trama y las aventuras que la forman son muy interesantes y están llevadas con un ritmo narrativo ágil y que se lee muy bien. El arte del cómic es muy interesante, cada uno de los artistas que trabajan en el tomo sabe darle a sus viñetas su toque personal. La historia es, como he dicho, estupenda, lleva a los personajes a situaciones extremas, les humaniza y hace que se pongan sobre la mesa cuestiones sobre la guerra, la perdida, el miedo a morir, la depresión y la angustia, el compañerismo y lo malo que habita en cada uno de nosotros y como asumirlo como un aspecto más de nuestra personalidad.

En definitiva, pedazo cómic. Que ganas de leer el que viene.

Más fantásticas aventuras del Undécimo Doctor. 

Este es el segundo volumen de los cómics Doctor Who: Undécimo Doctor. 

Aquí aprendemos más de la entidad. También descubrimos una enorme biblioteca y dos razas alienígenas que se pelean entre ellos. 

Tiene cosas interesantes y otras eran algo predecibles. 

Pero me encanta el Doctor y adoro ver cómo siempre se las arregla para salvar el mundo.

¿Otro comic del doctor who? Siiii otro comic del doctor who wiiiiiiiiii gracias fandogamia mi corazón whovian está completo.
El undécimo doctor se enfrenta a un terrible enemigo. La tardis se vuelve loca y va todo del revés, molaría si alguna vez el doctor supiera lo que hace😂 en realidad lo sabe pero lo oculta muy bien.
En fin, tampoco os voy a contar mucho de la trama, solo que si amáis la serie amaréis los libros, que tienen un precio suuuper asequible, son a todo color por dentro y merecen mucho pero mucho la pena.
En este volumen como en el anterior, los companions son distintos a los de la serie peroooo molan igual. Aunque les tengo especial cariño a Amy y Rory y les echo de menos.

Bueno, a ver. Doctor Who me encanta, pero de vez en cuando tiene tramas que hacen que me pete el cerebro. Y madre mía, así es como ha empezado el cómic. Las primeras páginas son una ida de olla total. Literal que creía que mi ejemplar estaba mal impreso, con eso os lo digo todo. Pero no, no le pasaba nada a mi ejemplar, no estaban las páginas desordenadas, es solo que la primera historia juega de una manera brutal con los saltos temporales (wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey stuff) y hay que esperar hasta haberla leído entera para entenderla de verdad.

La segunda historia de este cómic nos presenta una trama que no es la primera vez que se ve en Doctor Who: dos razas alienígenas en guerra la una contra la otra. Y ahí está el Doctor para intentar conseguir la paz. En esta historia también se trata el tema de la pérdida y el duelo de la mano de la acompañante del Doctor, Alice (exclusiva de los cómics) y se habla un poco de cómo, para esta acompañante pero también para muchos otros, viajar con el Señor del Tiempo es una forma de escapismo.

La tercera y última historia pone punto y final al arco de la empresa "Te servimos" que, como corporación, es "el monstruo más peligroso de todos".

Debo decir que el estilo de dibujo sigue sin ser mi favorito. Matt Smith ya tiene de por sí una cara bastante peculiar, y este estilo de dibujo, casi caricaturesco, no le sienta especialmente bien. Pero lo que sí que me gusta mucho es la paleta de colores.

Por otro lado, tengo la sensación de que algo positivo que aportan estos cómics es que es un medio que no se ve restringido por un presupuesto limitado, como puede pasar en la serie, y eso permite ver algunas cosas más "espectaculares" que a lo que estamos acostumbrados.

One of the BEST Doctor Who comics I've read thus far! This volume has 3 great top notch stories. The first is told backwards, the second revisits the theme of two alien species eternally at war, the third brings a close to the SERVEYOU.INC storyline.

The first thing that makes this volume fantastic...the companions. They are wonderfully diverse and interesting. A library assistant, a David Bowie stand in taken early in his timeline, and a creature able to take any shape.

I really enjoy all of the Bowie references and his changing attire/look. The personality didn't always seem quite right but I appreciated the effort and his addition added to the story rather than detract like it did previously.



What is really phenomenal about these stories is that they are never rushed, the resolution feels reasonable, no deus ex machina here! Plus they really make the most of the medium with some really vibrant illustration, as far as DW comics go this artwork is at the top.

Seeing the FEMALE companion dressed up as the Doctor seemed like a bit of a gimmick but hey it worked.

I might have been a little choked up reading this post-Bowie but I'm thrilled that there is yet another venue for his genius and influence to live on.

The Doctor, Alice, ARC, and Jones battle a time-twisting Nimon, an eternal war, the evil SERVEYOUInc., and...the Doctor himself?

This second volume of the Eleventh Doctor's adventures feels a little flatter than the first one. You can tell it's all building to something bigger, but it doesn't feel like the incidental plots are good enough to hold your interest while that something bigger plays around in the background.

The book is at its best when it's using Alice to her fullest. She's such a complex and different character compared to the others in the book, and it's a shame when she gets shafted to one side. Especially since Jones, the thinly veiled Ziggy Stardust analog, is beginning to get on my nerves. He doesn't seem to serve a purpose at all other than spouting song lyrics.

When we get to the SERVEYOUInc. stuff proper, the book definitely picks up. It becomes a character study for The Doctor without him being the main character, but even this feels frustratingly incomplete since we only get one side of the story, and a lot of what's happened that's forced Alice and Jones to step up takes place off-panel, so it loses its impact.

The art's pretty much the same fare as before, with Simon Fraser and Boo Cook pencilling issues while Vertigo mainstay Warren Pleece also appears for the middle two issues. None of them stand out over the others, but they do their jobs well enough - I still think Fraser's art is a bit too rubbery though.

A bit of a backwards step for the Eleventh Doctor, but I think that might just be a case of middle-act syndrome. With the conclusion to the first year on the horizon, hopefully the next volume will be a bit more satisfying.

Still nurturing an urge for all things Doctor Who, I thought I would give the Titan Comics Eleventh Doctor series another try. While Volume 1: After Life didn't really leave much of an impression on me, I was much more impressed with Volume 2: Serve You.

Somehow I had previously missed the significance of Jones's character (the quotes make it pretty clear) and now I love the concept of a young David Bowie travelling with the Doctor. Eleven is probably the most whimsical incarnation of the modern era and therefore the easiest source of musical inspiration. Alice is a reliably sharp-witted equal to the Doctor (a librarian no less!) and Arc is a big amorphous sweetheart.

The adventures collected in Serve You range from the time-wimey (a comic with all the pages out of order) to the commercially cynical (the Doctor goes corporate to face off against an unstoppable intellectual property mogul). From Nimons bearing blackholes to intricate alien motorways, it is clear that comics are the ultimate workaround to a comparatively limited TV budget. Ewing and Williams's ambitious writing is reminiscent of vintage Stephen Moffat (albeit with more nuanced female characters) and the luscious visuals provided by Simon Fraser, Boo Cook and Warren Pleece thrill the eye.

Suffice to say I'm hooked now and have Volume 3 ready. I recommend Doctor Who: The Eleventh Doctor Volume 2 - Serve You to fellow Whovians who have yet to discover the glorious potential of Titan Comics.

Graphic novels are always underrated in my opinion. There's so much detail that goes into it. You get a whole story, sometimes more than one. In this, the Doctor and his companions face some very interesting oppositions, including one that makes time run BACKWARDS. The details and storyline are absolutely mind-blowing. I loved it. They also take on a monstrous corporation called Serve You, Inc. I literally couldn't put the book down.

Spazio nella dimensione relativa e tempo – Capitolo 6
In questo capitolo a causa di una manomissione del Tardis, il tempo all’interno del Tardis regradisce facendo tornare il dottore indietro il tempo, quindi iniziamo dal dottore e Alice che hanno perso sia Ark che Jones dopo uno scontro con l’essere che ha sfruttato il buco nero che conteneva in un cubo e i motori del Tardis servono come miccia per dare potenza al buco, L’essere era sceso sul pianeta chiamato banca dati numero 8 , facendosi passare per un dio , poi ha sottratto tutte le informazioni possibili e a sterminato tutti i suoi abitanti , ha inviato i soccorsi per mettere in atto il suo piano e distruggere sia il pianeta che l’astronave che l’avrebbe salvato cosi che non ci siano, superstiti o testimoni. Quindi il Dottore ripercorre a ritroso tutto l’episodio per cercare di scongiurare sia la formazione di un buco nero Artificiale che la morte dei compagni in una storia che ti da l’impressione di vedere l’episodio ma all’indrietro e non con il tasto di riavvolgimento, ma vedendo ogni volta che cambia qualcosa che si è visto, il protagonista assoluto di questo capitolo è il dottore mentre i suoi compagni di viaggio cioè Alice , ark e Jones sono prigionieri del regredimento del tempo quindi non se ne accorgono ; in questo capitolo il disegnatore è Simon Fraser con le sue linee quasi invisibili e molto colore, in questo capitolo vediamo altre stanza del Tardis.
L’eterna zuffa – Capitolo 7
In questo capitolo Alice torna a casa dopo tante avventure con il Dottore per sistemare la sua vita e le cose della sua defunta madre , prima di tornare nel Tardis col Dottore , ed è lui stesso a lasciarla sistemare tutta la sua vita, mentre lui, Ark e Jones cercano di scoprire cosa sono quelle esplosioni in cielo , proprio sopra L’atmosfera. Le esplosioni sono causate da una zuffa che va avanti da secoli, dove si scontrano gli Amstron e i j’arrodic, e il Dottore temendo per la terra va sull’astronave Amstron insieme ad Ark e Jones che durante i viaggi con il Dottore quell’ultimo capitolo e molto ingrassato e Ark è ancora instabile, per vedere un modo per far finire la zuffa prima che la terra venga distrutta, intanto Alice questo capitolo non è autoconclusivo ma continua nel capitolo 8, per quanto riguarda Ark non solo in questo capitolo lo vedo molto iperattivo e inizia a sfaccettarsi come personaggio, sempre al servizio del Dottore che pero a volte ha scatti animaleschi ed è commesso ancora alla SERVEYOUinc., quindi ogni volta che c’è immischiati questa societa , lui ha paura quindi lascia andare la sua intelligenza che il Dottore gli ha fatto emergere per diventare una bestia senza anima o un oggetto totalmente succube della sua paura , spero molto che questo personaggio sia sfisceratoin tutte le sue forme e non abbandonato a se stesso. Il disegnatore di questo capitolo e del prossimo è Warren Pleece, un disegnatoreche da la sua serietà ai tutti i personaggi coinvolti e le sue linee molto più marcate ma ancora nella media ( e dopo diro il perché dico questa cosa)
L’astronauta dell’infinito – Capitolo 8
Nello scoprire che gli Amstron sono robot, il Dottore scopre anche che nella biblioteca nella novel degli Amstron c’è Alice insieme a sua madre viva e in piedi davanti a lui, la cosa è impossibile anche se sappiamo che l’universo molte volte si è levato del Dottore , ma questa volta sa che è solo una illusione e tenta di fare comprendere la situazione ad Alice che decisa ad agrapparsi con tutte ad una scintilla di speranza in un mare di disperazione, si arrabbia con il Dottore, scopriamo che le due fazioni un tempo alleate per scoprire cosa c’era aldila di uno strappo nella dimensione , iniziarono a mandare astronavi su astronavi per scoprire anche che ha il volto del creatore siccome pensavano che lo squarcio portava al mondo del creatore dell’universo, tutti tentarono l’impresa ma nessuno tornò e quindi iniziarono le teorie che sfociarono nella zuffa, quindi secondo la legge trovata da Alice nella biblioteca , lei e Jones dovranno partire nell’impresa. Non so ma a me piace vedere il Dottore alle prese con cose che sono impossibili per lui, come la spiritualità o di tornare indietro della morte quando si è esauritola linea temporale di ogni individuo in questione ora dobbiamo ricordarci che c’è sempre una figura in ombra vestita da signore del tempo che gia apparsa ad Alice e credo che centri qualcosa con la fine della stagione dei fumetti. Guardarli tutti e quattro insieme sembrano molto variegati e coesistono bene.
L’ascesa e la caduta – Capitolo 9
In questo capitolo vediamo il Dottore diventare azionario della SERVEYOUinc. Per smantellare dall’interno e fermare progetti che mirano a fare disastri nell’universo, un certo personaggio di nome Talent Scout che è noto dall’entita che prima a preso le sembianze della madre di Alice , con uno stratagemma fa emergere la parte più malvagia del Dottore, ma prima di tutto ciò da istruzioni ad Alice e Jones, il povero Ark è ancora succube della sua stessa paura. Uno dei capitoli migliori del volume dove vediamo, una Alice ancora alle prese con il suo lutto e il suo dolore, una compagna diversa da qualsiasi altro compagno , la sua curiosità siene quasi oscurata dal suo dolore che prova e la dirompenza con cui interagisce in il dottore , la stessa dirompenza che fa a gara con Donna noble, dal canto suo il Dottore cerca di tirargli su il morale in tutti i modi ( come successe con Vangogh nella quinta stagione) ma si trova davanti un muro che anche lui non riesce ad abbattere, poi vedremo nelle prossime avventure se il Dottore a far superare il dolore di Alice. Il disegnatore di Boo Cook è davvero bravo nel suo stile molto duro e sporco tanto da far sembrare l’undicesimo Dottore minaccioso nei momenti di azione, e la tavola dove si vede il Dottore malvagio è da mettere in cornice dalla bellezza, lo stile si avvicina molto stile di Daniel Indro come durezza.
L’altro Dottore – Capitolo 10
In questo capitolo il Dottore si è impossessato di tutto l’asteriode città SERVEYOUinc. Anche con l’aiuto del Talent Scuot e la comanda come un tiranno , togliendo storie ai bambini di modo che non siano bellicosi e nutrendo l’entità di tutte le storie possibili, svuotando i bambini facendoli diventare quasi vuoti e senza emozioni, gli unici a combattere il tiranno sono Jones , che ora si fa chiamare Xavimoonburst e Alice che ha preso il posto del Dottore vestendosi come lui, e insieme a lui c’è la versione computerizzata del Dottore dall’interfaccia Tardis e dargli istruzioni e a beccarsi ramanzine da Alice , intanto gli spettri del tiranno sono alla ricerca di nuovi bambini e dei ribelli , Ark sta sempre più male e cosi Alice e Jones tentano di entrare nel Tardis… quest’ultimo capitolo che chiude il volume è molto leggibile, solo una cosa che non mi è piaciuta ed è stato il cambio di stile di disegno, forse lo stile di Boo Cook non stava bene con questo capitolo per la durezza del tratto ma credo che comunque si poteva destreggiare o l’hanno fatto per non rivedere quel Dottore inquitante ( perché è Inquietante!!) e sto parlando della sua controparte malvagia . Jones in questo capitolo è diventato un tantino utile rispetto al resto dei capitoli dove di solito viene messo di al margine, ed è strano che una persona che verra ricordata negli anni sia diventato un compagno del Dottore, o è stato messo nel gruppo per questo motivo, spero spero che lo sfiluppino di più il personaggio , perche adesso come adesso Alice e Ark lo sovrastano.
Per concludere…
Devo dire che anche questo volume si divende bene e da una visione più ampia sia sui tre compagni del Dottore che del Dottore stesso, un volume che mi ha divertito molto ed affascinato ma credo che i volumi dell’undicesimo devono dare ancora il suo massimo, mi è piaciuto molto le pagine che spiegano l’omaggio che il volume vuole fare al cantante David Bowie, Elena Pizzi insieme a Susanna Raule ci spiegano le citazioni che sono state messe nel fumetto, anche se non ho mai sentito il cantante a parte a parte qualche canzone alla radio , anche se puo essere un incentivo per iniziare ad ascoltarlo.

Mini-Review: I have watched nearly every episode of the new series of Doctor Who and I can honestly say I don't know if I was ever that confused. I mean, I watched the Moffat era, so probably, but this is definitely a close second. The first story, Space in Dimension Relative and Time, was told kind of backwards but also forwards, so you feel extremely lost and confused, and only the Doctor was aware of what was happening. The other stories were okay, the last one was bizarre, kind of felt like a weird version of the Family of Blood storyline from the Tenth Doctor era. But other than that it was good. I'm not a huge fan of the Eleventh Doctor, but it was a decent read.

Okay, this second volume was better and really dug into some complex issues, especially concerning how Alice joined the Doctor in the first place. Her personal journey is one of learning to deal with her grief over the loss of her mother and finding a way to move on. She knows that being with the Doctor is a form of escapism, but there's still so much more to process beyond that fact.

I enjoyed the almost one-off story about the alien races who travel the universe forever at war. It's a clever spin on something we've seen with the Sontarans and the Rutans and yet somehow different because they live on giant starships that travel together with their space war front?

The final arc where the Doctor finally tackles Serve You had some great high concept stuff but also had a decent enough that I felt could have been pushed more. Still, great character growth for Alice. I'm still curious where they want to go with Arc though.

Another London find, at the Forbidden Planet, for 0.99£, I bought it for my cousin, who was a huge Doctor Who fan - he had our grandma make him a scarf like the Fourth Doctor, and I remember for one Christmas we got him a Sonic Screwdriver - but I wanted to give it a read first, before passing it along.
This was really fun to be back this world - I haven't yet caught up with the new season, I want to though I've learned that for me only the more historic episodes work well - and I rather liked the companions in this - there was fun chemistry between the four of them.
You miss a little bit by picking up a second volume instead of the first one, but the adventure is still alright, but like I just said above the space/futuristic scifi are never my favorites...
A fun story, and if you're in London, a great deal to catch at Forbidden Planet, where you'll find many more comics at great prices (including a lot of Doctor Who)

All told, these are delightful stories, well told by Rob Williams and Al Ewing. #6 may be the most delightful for its reverse storytelling. #7-8 may be the most human for Alice's story. #9-10 may be the best plot for conclusion of the meta-arc and the unique storytelling of the latter issue. And they're all so nicely paced: compact stories that don't overstay their welcomes.

All told, this is great Doctor Who writing with a great TARDIS crew. Though I've been put off by huge volume of material that Titan is publishing, this is definitely worth reading.

Second in the sequence of Titan Eleventh Doctor comics, continuing his adventures with recently bereaved London librarian Alice, anonymous musician Jones and chameleon entity ARC. Alice is much more interesting than the other two and gets much more plot, especially when her dead mother appears to come back. The standout however is the first episode where time starts running backwards – this has been done a couple of times before in Who, but it’s difficult to do well and it is carried off with aplomb.

A collection of good stories and interesting concepts. In particular one of the more nuanced takes on the doctor going evil and what his desires taken to the ultimate extremes look like. That being said it doesn’t do the most that could be done with that idea and that's mainly due to its length so overall parts of it do feel underdeveloped.
It’s biggest flaw is (like the entire series) in the art where their version of Matt still looks like a horrific amalgamation of a string bean and Mr. Potatoe head. But still overall good collection of stories good companions, and an interesting villain. Just really wish we got a deep exploration of the doctors dark side that the story scrapes at.

✨ Aquí seguiremos descubriendo poco a poco más detalles de esta gran corporación, que parece estar en todas partes ofreciendo a cada uno lo que más quiere, y poniendo en aprietos al Doctor y a Alice.
✨ Pero el final no queda cerrado, y habrá que esperar al siguiente número para saber si esta vez consiguen vencer a un ente tan poderoso.

I enjoyed this one more then the first part. Less weird, creepy. Definitely some beautiful art ! Some Classic Dr. Who moments. The story that ending at the beginning:) and the library that tried to eat him ( Silence in the Library) Receptionist: Where did you get all that money ? Dr. : I live in a box and steal my clothes lol 😆 and his companions saved him Happy ending yeah:) Ready to read the nxt one 😊

The weaker middle chapter

Compared to how awesome the first volume was, this one doesn't quite get to the same heights. The opening story is a brilliant concept, even if it is resolved with a bit of deus ex machina, and the second story is probably my favorite of the bunch. That said, the final part is... just kinda bleh. Both Williams and Ewing can do better.

Good overall, although a bit weaker than the first volume. The two-part final story has a really good setup in the first half, but an unsatisfying resolution. (Which I guess makes it a good fit for stories set in the Moffat era...) (B+)

I really enjoy these comics even though they never do anything groundbreaking. They feel like alternate ways of telling typical Doctor Who stories which I always tend to enjoy. (I also read several of them in quick succession. Thus, no individual reviews for each of these.
