Although it took awhile for the story to get interesting, I enjoyed it. I've read several horror romances before and it can be tricky getting the balance right between the scary, horror aspects and the love story.
This book did a great job of that. I found myself frequently shocked and horrified and felt the FMC's heart breaking in certain scenes where she was losing so many people that were dear to her at the hands of a man she loved.
I liked Ian the most, because he seemed the most respectful and sweet while being a lil freak. But I felt like Ian kind of got lost in the drama of Jax and Keith. Jax was an ok MMC but the constant lying and hiding things and his pushiness were a turn off. Keith was...ridiculous. I don't think I liked a single thing about him. How can I take a MMC seriously when he never even takes himself seriously? The constant horny jokes and acting like everything is funny was gross and made him a very flat, one note character.
The FMC was interesting. At the beginning she seemed a bit meek and boring but she grew and became a lot more self assured as the story went on. She did make a lot of dumb decisions along the way though.
DEJAAAAAA! How did you miss all those red flags, my baby??? JP felt the energy from the beginning… when I tell you I fussed at these pages and talked bad to my girl… you’ll just have to take my word for it. I feel like I really was immersed in Deja’s world, I felt her unease and trepidation. And the moment the rose colored glasses dropped and she saw the family for what they were, HONEY!!!! I really enjoyed this story tho!
This book had me HOOKED. I’ve been in a massive slump, DNF’ing AI slop, to downright boring ass books, but this one grabbed me and didn’t let go. Smauggy always writes Why Choose so well. Sometimes I feel like the more level headed third party gets a little left out in her other stories, but this one did a good job with keeping Ian (my fave) in the loop.
Jax was so perfectly unhinged but also a decent blend of the perfect man that it was an emotional rollercoaster dealing with him. At times I’d feel bad for the murderous man, other times I was like please smoke this mf cause I’m tired of his shit!
Keith was a nut job and a horn ball but I liked him. Especially when he had his moments of just being chill. But he lived out of pocket and honestly it worked for the dynamic.
Ian was just perfect. My kind of dark romance MMC. He was insane, but balanced perfectly with his sweet, attentive, demure personality. He was gentle, yet dominant and just…ugh. Send me an Ian, sans the murderous tendencies, thank you. ☺️
Deja Deja Deja. She missed so many red flags in the beginning I was about to label her a dumb ass broad. But then once things clicked (admittedly she needed a mf billboard of proof before she saw the light) she got her act together and did the things I was hoping she’d do.
Yes, this book ends on a cliffy but honestly I don’t care, it was perfect and ending that way after all that happened was chefs kiss. But definitely need to know….how tf she’s gonna navigate after cause baby girl lit a match!
This book could easily be a Netflix series. I just finished book one and I was like this book is amazing and so good. This was slasher movie meets erotic thriller. Smauggy did her thing. I'm do glad I took a chance and picked up this book because I'm ready for the rest of this wild ride.
If it was possible to give infinity stars to this goddamn Classic, I would!!! Lawd have mercy, I was on the edge of my seat, especially when she found out how murderous they were ! Though he’s crazy asf, Keith literally had me rolling (laughing) multiple times ! He’s my favorite!
This book had me on a roller coaster of emotions, from being scared for her to laughing at the things that came out of the brother's mouth. This book has the spice and the action, and you won’t regret reading it.
I read this story from its conception on Patreon. It is undoubtedly my favourite of all of Queen smauggy stories I love all her books as they are part of my library collection but this series is my favourite going to dive into part two.
