I'd first heard about Trannsformer's IDW series several years ago. At the time I knew very little about it and my imbecilic library wasn't terribly bright at how they labeled things. Hence, I read the first volume of Phase One (the first part of this large epic series) and then read what I thought was Vol 2. It was. But Volume Two of Phase Two. Duh. So obviously the story made little to no sense. I have since purchased nearly the entire series and have worked my way through Phase One and now am into Phase Two. Thus this review is based on that, as is the rating. Just FYI.
Anyways, Volume Two starts off with a bang. The "Autocracy" story arc was phenomenal. Superb art and a dark and grim story. Orion Pax faces the biggest test of his life when he realizes that Zeta Prime is not only a tyrant but possibly insane. This story of the Autobots and Decepticons joining forces to fight the threat of Zeta Prime was truly one of the best I've read in a while. I loved the Soundwave chase scene. He is one of my favorite Transformers. This part of the story is 5 star material.
Then the rest of the material is of varying quality. It is never bad but seems to gravitate from a 3 to a 4 star level of quality. That goes for the stories and the art. There is a series of Spotlight issues covering Trailcutter, Hoist, and Orion Pax. Of the three, the Orion Pax story is easily the strongest and has some good lore about Optimus Prime's faceplate.
The rest of the volume spends time with the Decepticon vigilante squad DJD (Decepticon Justice Division) and Ironhide's quest for the Aerialbots. This is the three star material. Not bad, I'm interested to see where this goes.
The final story arc is more of a 4 star level. It revolves around the internal politics on Cybertron between Starscream and Bumblebee for the political leadership of the Cybertronians.
Overall, a good addition to my collection. Look forward to Volume Three.
Pretty solid throughout. Loved the first story more than I thought I would and damn I would love to see MTMTE as a tv series or something. it's just so good, can definitely see why people reccomend it so much
Amazing collection of stories and a must for all Transformers fans. I do not buy the comic books other than in these collected editions and I probably have the best way of reading the continuous storyline as the editors have rearranged a number of different titles into a historic order that is making total sense to myself.
love transformesr...too bad i'm only starting to read teh comics...
Autocracy is awesome...and i love the graphics/colors
Robots in the disguise style gets a little geting use to ...but the story lines are pretty funny.
THese characters are new to me Brainstorm, Chromedome, Rung , D.JD , Nautica(who appeasr in Vol6 or 7)...not sure if they were in teh old TV shows. But they are written well
