When the Sea Calls Your Name, Angela Birdie 5 stars. Intriguing, fascinating, deep, imaginative and sometimes difficult to follow the creative trains of thought especially with the changes in time periods (seemingly the modern style). It is a story about an island culture, in a way outside the law or accepted norms. It has its own norms. A female tries to fathom her history, especially her mother’s. To do this she immerses herself in that culture. Meanwhile the tension is heightened by a controlling husband from whom she would dearly like to leave and find herself because she has been buried or submerged under his shallow dominant character. I will be looking for her other books if there are any. It one of those few books you will remember in a year’s time.
