First of all thank you to aella c grey for letting me read this as an ark you put me through a lot of emotional scenes with this book and I’m so grateful for you letting me have the chance to join Evelyn’s adventures so far with book one I wasn’t expecting half of what you put me throughout for this first book and I absolutely loved every second of it even if you did make me cry but this is an amazing fantasy book for lovers of dark fantasy romance

Wings of Doubt had a premise that had me hooked after finding a reel of what this is about on TikTok: the book is about an FMC (Evelyn) who dies and wakes up in Heaven, but is put into a "war college" type training to become a warrior to fight demons.

As Evelyn learns her new role and how that looks while battling good vs. evil in both the warrior training garrison and with the outside world of real threats, she learns who she can trust and who she cannot. All while doing so, with no memories of who she was before she died.

This all was a new fresh idea in the world of fantasy books that have come out and the idea is great. I was very intrigued and the story was enough to keep me interested. However, at a deeper level, just under the skin, it felt like something was missing. I don't know what that could have been but just something. Maybe a little more political intrigue, maybe more character building, or friendship building, or maybe Aella purposely did that for this book and what I am looking for will come in the next two books that she has planned for this series. I would rate this book as a 3.75 stars as its almost there but its just missing something. Its enough for to continue the series and see what happens.

I had high hopes for this book. The setting was unique, and the opening especially caught my attention. The FMC dies and wakes up in Heaven—a premise you don’t often see in fantasy.

Unfortunately, several things kept me from enjoying it:

* Emphasized words were formatted in both bold and italics, where italics alone would have been sufficient.
* There was unnecessary spacing between paragraphs, which disrupted the reading flow.
* I usually enjoy short chapters, but these felt too short.
* There was a noticeable lack of dialogue. Even in scenes where the FMC is surrounded by people, we never really hear anyone speak. Instead of simply stating that “they all looked happy,” adding snippets of conversation would have made the world feel much more alive.
* The characters all seemed to normalize their situation almost immediately. There was very little sense of wonder, fear, reluctance, or disbelief. They simply accepted their fate, which felt unrealistic and made it difficult for me to connect with them.

I’m sure this story has potential; however, several aspects kept pulling me out of the experience, and ultimately I couldn’t continue reading.

Wing of Doubt follows Evelyn, who arrives in Heaven expecting eternal peace and tranquility. That's not quite how things go, though. While she's deemed worthy enough to earn entry, she wasn't quite worthy of full paradise just yet. Instead, she's assigned to defend Heaven from demons and other threats. Stripped of any memories from her past life or even how she died, Evelyn finds herself enlisted and undergoing training to become one of the realm's defenders.

Along the way, she crosses paths with Sentinel General Kane, the commander, who repeatedly steps in to help her during her rare moments of need. A bond quickly forms between them, growing as Evelyn struggles to stay alive while piecing together parts of her forgotten identity. Tested far beyond her limits, Eve must make it through training before her enemies catch up to her first.

I enjoyed this book and am glad that there were also platonic friendships, not just romantic ones. This book will give you all the feels - laughs, heartbreak, anger, and some heat

This story was fast-paced and entertaining, a real page-turner. I enjoyed the story between the characters and can appreciate that (while sad) an author feels the freedom to kill off some characters.

I liked that our first glimpse of the FMC began in the afterlife, I haven’t read many books like that.

The tension and friendship between the FMC and MMC was good although a bit random. There were a lot of interesting things that happened with little to no explanation for them. I kept hoping for some answers but didn’t get any.

The story ended very abruptly as well, it felt like just another chapter and there was no finality in it.

I’d be interested to read future installments however if they continue to leave more questions than answers, I’ll grow tired of the story.

Wings of Doubt had one of those premises that immediately hooked me: a woman dies and wakes up in Heaven, forced to fight as an after-life crusader. Unfortunately, the execution never came close to matching the concept.

The entire book feels like a bargain-bin version of The Fourth Wing without any character development or dragons. Most of the cast remains flat. Motivations are thin, relationships develop without depth, and our FMC never becomes compelling enough to carry the story through its weaker moments. For a book set in Heaven, there is remarkably little sense of wonder.

In the end, it felt like watching an author forge a cool idea and then spend 400 pages trying to turn it into The Fourth Wing with angel wings and giant cats. The concept deserved far more than it got.

Wings of Doubt immediately caught my attention because the premise was unlike anything I had read before. Evelyn dies expecting to wake up in Heaven, only to discover that Heaven isn't exactly the peaceful afterlife she imagined. Instead, she is recruited to train as a warrior and defend Heaven against demons and other threats.

With no memories of her life before death—or even how she died—Evelyn is thrown into a completely unfamiliar world. She has to learn the rules, survive intense training, figure out who she can trust, and slowly uncover pieces of the person she used to be. The whole idea of Heaven having a military-style training system was such a unique take, and I really enjoyed watching Evelyn find her way in this strange new world.

I really enjoyed this book! I’m not usually a fan of heaven-themed stories, but this one hooked me with its fresh premise. After dying, Evelyn wakes up in heaven only to discover she’s not headed for paradise—instead, she’s recruited into training for a heavenly war against demons.
The FMC’s storyline is compelling, especially as she pieces together fragments of her past life. Her found family feels warm and genuine, and the love interest is wonderfully written. The short, fast-paced chapters made it dangerously easy to say “just one more,” and before I knew it, I’d flown through the whole book.
Overall, it’s a solid, engaging story, and I’m genuinely excited to see what happens next!

While this isn't normally a type of book I would read, I was drawn in quickly by the plot. Aella C. Grey does a remarkable job of painting the picture of the world in which the story takes place as well as the main characters, making it easy to picture the story as it takes place. Throughout the book I found myself cheering on the main character Evelyn, feeling her heartbreak, and being drawn in to her story. I look forward to reading the next installments of this series.

Intriguing. Captivating. Suspenseful. In the age old story of angels versus demons comes a version of military training, forgotten pasts, battle-forged friendships, slow-burn romance, possible secret societies, and questionable allegiance. I’m not one to give out spoilers, so you must read for yourself. But, I will say that it will definitely keep you on your toes, and anxiously awaiting book two for more of the story. This is going on my list of favorites.

I really wanted to be into this book; however, at 25% complete, I just wasn’t invested enough in the characters to keep going.
All that being said, I feel like the bones of the story were really different from anything else that I have read: an army of Heaven's angels that are basically in boot camp to become soldiers with wings?! It has the potential to be excellent. I will try to pick this up again later and see if it will snag me then.

Set in an interesting version of heaven that had me appreciating the differences from what most people have in their stories.
Loved the character development and tasteful romance. Fresh take on angels vs. demons, and set up for book 2 well. Also, definitely worth a second read through as there are fun little details and Easter Eggs throughout.

While this book was fairly entertaining it was not what I expected, and I kept saying to myself, surely this isn't heaven!! There's a lot more death than I thought there would be...I think the book started strong and had a lot of potential but left me a bit confused? And again is not any normal take on heaven. I'm wondering if it will become clearer with future books.

It starts with Eve waking up in Heaven, not knowing how she got there. As she moves through it’s clear she’s different from the others, but can’t figure out why.

Angels and demons are at war with each other and she’s been told she’s going to learn to fight the demons.

Along the way, she makes enemies within the angels who end up getting what they deserve.

It ends with a cliffhanger, and I can’t wait to see what happens next.
