Inheritance of the Hollow had me completely hooked from the very first page. Thank you to the author for this gifted copy. All opinions are mine. Rowan’s journey to uncover what she stands to inherit was equal parts emotional, mysterious, and downright creepy in the best way. The pacing kept me turning pages, and the vivid descriptions made me feel like I was walking the streets of that small town right alongside her. There were moments that tugged at my heart and others that had me looking over my shoulder. If you love atmospheric small town mysteries with family secrets, strong character growth, and a touch of the unsettling, this one is absolutely worth picking up.

This was a quick and engaging read with beautiful writing. Every time I sat down to read I was immersed in the story. I connected with Rowan because I understand that sometimes we feel pulled toward a path that others wouldn’t take and certainly don’t understand why we are choosing (what they feel is) the harder way. Staying true to ourselves and answering our calling in life isn’t always the obvious (or easy) path.

This book even inspired me to slow down and spend more time outdoors listening and feeling the beauty of nature. I’d recommend this book to anyone who is looking to get lost in a book and I’d suggest reading it outdoors surrounded by nature!

Inheritance of the Hollow was such a fun read! The magic system was unique, and I loved how Ashley's writing contributed to making a mysterious atmosphere. I loved the short chapters; I read this book in one sitting and was addicted! I was a huge fan of the FMC, Rowan! She wanted change and was not afraid to stand up for it. Overall, this was a wonderful novella. Thank you so much, Ashley MacKinnon, for the ARC. I can't wait to read more!

This novella is about a girl named Rowan who inherits her grandmother's cabin and inadvertently becomes the guardian of the woods surrounding it. MacKinnon's writing style is lovely and melodic. Her words transport the reader to this lush hollow, where the land is alive and strongly connected to Rowan and her emotions. The natural imagery and the message of preserving precious woodlands are beautiful, as well.

Two things that I had difficulty with were the repetition of certain words (ex. thrum) and phrases and the lack of closure or explanation of side characters, like Tamsin and Nico, who come and go quickly in the story.

Overall, this story is on the verge of perfection. I'd read more from MacKinnon, who will no doubt continue to produce beautiful stories.

Ashley has a gift for details. Her writing transports you to the world she is creating. This is a novella and the author delivers so much in such few pages. The chapters are short and I was able to read this in an afternoon. Perfect for a cozy afternoon. The novella focuses on the Hollow and our FMC and not much else. I woukd of liked to see more from the other characters.
