Poet Graves has only ever wanted to be free. But no matter where she turns, she’s held captive—by a power she doesn’t understand, a truth she no longer believes in, and a love she can’t deny.
As Poet is drawn further into Rook's world, his secrets force her to question who she can trust. But when friends turn into enemies, enemies prove to be allies, and the place that was once a safe harbor is revealed as the eye of the storm, Poet's only choice is to fight for what she believes in.
When New Manhattan's darkest secrets refuse to stay hidden, the cause Poet and Rook fight for will be called into question. The answers are out there…and they could destroy everything.

YA dystopian fantasy romance with Divergent vibes but make it more stormy and purple-haired.
This sequel to Storm Breaker is a nostalgic-feeling YA dystopian fantasy romance that activated two completely different parts of my brain: 🥰 and ✊. Therefore, I shall write two mini reviews, while attempting to keep this spoiler-free for both books, wish me luck:
Rook is such a green flag hello and Poet’s character growth in this really shines and they’re so cute together, I love them and everything they represent. Poet’s friendship with Domino in this one was also a real highlight, as well as exploration of her relationship with her father and mother. It gets deep.
I kind of started reading this thinking it might give me the same Divergent vibes as book one did, but it, er, diverged quite a bit.
Especially that last stretch.... like what in the Lana and Lilly Wachowski did I just read?! I was bawling my eyes out.
I really look forward to seeing this play out as a TV series, because it's just so visual and action-packed.
And if you don’t like cliffhangers, perhaps wait till the third book of this trilogy comes out before starting this series… because ouch.
Storm Caller is a dystopian fantasy romance and dystopian as a genre is inherently interested in power, oppression, inequality and who gets to decide how society functions.
Anyway, I write this secondary review for Storm Caller with a different part of my brain. I felt unsettled the whole time I was reading it, especially as the story leaned into its political side. Maybe because I kept having the strange sensation that I was reading fiction while simultaneously watching the news?
Because in this fictional world, people are disappeared for no reason, the media manipulates, suppresses and distorts, marginalised groups are targeted and discriminated against, the climate is irrevocably screwed and anyone who knows too much becomes a target to be silenced.
Sound familiar? I could go on but it would spoil some of the big reveals.
Anyhow, the parallels are difficult to ignore. The surveillance, propaganda, xenophobia, wealth inequality, capitalism, concentration of power, manufactured enemies and deliberate division of ordinary people (Society, Cogs and Hollows + Keepers & Solitudes), are all baked into the worldbuilding of "New Manhattan". Just wait till you clock what the Extinguishers represent! 🧊
I suppose that is what good dystopian fiction is meant to do, YA fantasy-romance-coded or not. Some dystopias do warn us about the future yet many of them also make us look more closely at the present and recognise how easily the horrors of the past can and are getting repeated. And people of colour, especially Black and Indigenous people, have been warning us / y’all about that for centuries.
Anyhow, underneath all that political commentary, the romance still works beautifully and there was plenty here for the escapist, cute-seeking part of my brain to enjoy. Spice level is that line that sits between open door and fade to black, which I think suits its upper YA/NA classification. Maybe the correct term is “door ajar”, thank you Imbi & Youssra.
By the end, the action and social commentary gets more searing, incisive and emotionally devastating and I was in a chokehold. If you plan to read this, get your tissues.

Overall, Storm Caller was a very solid sequel! I love the way this expanded the world and further developed the magic system that we learned about in Storm Breaker.
I wasn't aware that this was a YA series when I began Storm Breaker, so this sequel was a lot easier for me to get into and follow along. These characters very much act their age and what they're experiencing is very relevant and relatable for a coming of age story.
While some of this book was pretty predictable, there was a scene that had my stomach DROP. I really appreciate Nisha J. Tuli's descriptions within this book because it really paints a clear picture of what's happening—like watching a movie.
I ultimately didn't rate this book the full 5 stars because it gave a littleeeee bit of second book syndrome and the dialogue was a bit cringey (it was more noticeable than Storm Breaker). There were a handful of moments where I wish the plot would've progressed a lot faster, and it left me wondering why were spending so much time on that moment. On the flip side, there were key moments I wish we would've spent more time on.
Storm Caller answered a ton of questions I had after reading Storm Breaker, but NOW I HAVE EVEN MORE QUESTIONS GOING INTO BOOK 3. Looking forward to seeing how Nisha J. Tuli will wrap up this series.
I liked the first book in this series, a lot because it played on nostalgia with its influence of Divergent. My main issue lay with the lack of back story and actual suppressive regime that’s sort of the main staple with dystopia.
We got some more insight into those aspects in this installment, which I appreciated. Along with the ending that set up for an interesting continuation in the next book.
The thing that didn’t really work for me this time was that Poet was outed as a Storm Breaker in the ending of the first book. But instead of seeing the fallout from this and moving the story forward, we sort of rewind and they say that they made a mistake. So instead of progressing the story, we sort of revise the same plotlines once again.
This felt unnecessary and the book presented itself more of a filler, but like I mentioned, the ending still made me excited to continue the series.
I thought I liked the first one, but I enjoyed this one so much more. We travel beyond New Manhattan, meet new characters, unveil secrets, and understand more about what we have (and haven’t) been told. I really appreciate how much this expanded beyond the academy setting and introduces a much larger plot.
This book felt a lot like I was reading The Hunger Games. I even coined the FMC Poet “Katniss Everdeen” Graves. The storylines are very different, but she has the same type of impact as Katniss.
This isn’t YA like the first one, but it isn’t excessive. Honestly, I felt the little bit of spice was unnecessary. People and their relationships evolve, so I get it. I just don’t feel it added anything we didn’t already get from them in Book 1.
Overall, this was such an enjoyable ride and I really can’t wait to read the next installment!

😮💨 WELP. Just spent a lot of the last 15% switching between crying my eyes out and gasping all while on the edge of my seat. Wow, where do we go from here???
I love this take on dystopian romance from Nisha J Tuli. The world becomes so much bigger in book 2, the cast of characters even more interesting and the story expands in a way that has me so ready for more. I can just see this story playing out on a screen and for me, that’s the sign of a great book.
The twists and turns and reveals just kept coming and seeing Poet’s growth and rage, while still maintaining this level of empathy and caring was so satisfying. She reminded me so much of Katniss and I think Hunger Games fans should all be reading this series! And Rook! Gahhh I love him and I love that we get so much more of his backstory which will only make you love him more. Poet & Rook 4eva 🫶
Thank you so much to Entangled & Mayhem Books for the early copy! I can’t wait for this to be out in the world.
💭: I really enjoyed this one! This book picks up right where book 1 left off and you’re thrown into the action pretty quickly. I enjoyed seeing the relationship grow and deepen between Poet and the MMC. I liked that we learned a little bit more about Poet’s power. The world expanded a bit and we got to meet some new characters which was great. I was kept on my toes trying to figure out motivations and hidden agendas, which kept things fun. The last ~20% is packed with action and new info and I loved it! I’m excited to see how book 3 wraps everything up.
🎧: This book is narrated by Soneela Nankani and I really enjoyed it! The range of voices is well done. The narration is also very clear and well paced and still sounded good sped up for my immersive read.
Storm Breaker is one of my favorite reads of 2026, and Nisha J. Tuli blessed us with Storm Caller less than six months later. The sequel picks up right where we left everybody at the end of book one, but dare I say Storm Caller might be even better than Storm Breaker?! NJT did an incredible job balancing lore, plot, and romance while truly opening this world up; just as the map expands, Poet's growth from book one to now made me cry by the end. She's really coming into her own as a young adult. And there's so much more to Rook and where he comes from. The tension between their two worlds and their respective roles really is trying to tear them apart. As a resident of NYC during recent storms and flash floods, the futuristic New Manhattan NJT imagined might not be so far off, and she asks a relevant question: will humans ever learn from our history and quit repeating past mistakes? That remains to be seen both in reality and fiction, but I, for one, can't wait to see what happens next in this story. (Respectfully, when's book three coming??? 👀)
I didn’t enjoy Storm Caller by Nisha J. Tuli as much as book one, and I fear it’s fallen into that classic filler second book in a trilogy, where it feels like we’re just bridging the gap between books one and three.
The pacing was a lot slower than I enjoy, and if I’m honest, not a lot happens. I’m not sure I would have finished this one if I’d been reading it physically, and I really struggled with the slower pace compared to the first book.
HOWEVER, the audiobook was so enjoyable that I absolutely breezed through it and I had a great time!
Did it give me the same vibes as book one? No. Did I still enjoy spending time with these characters and getting caught up in the storyline? Yes. I was invested enough to keep listening because I needed to know who we could actually trust, and that little bit of mystery kept me going.
If you’re a 2010s dystopian girlie then I’d definitely recommend giving this series a go.
I’m still invested enough to want to know what happens next, and I’ll be picking up book three!
everyone is secretly in the rebellion, nobody ever faces consequences and apparently the MC’s superpower is having tantrums and being a ✨teenager✨. girl, I have questions. and I’m tired💀💀💀
This is book 2 in the Storm Breaker series, which I believe is set to be a trilogy!
This book picks up right where book one left off, with Poet and Rook escaping New Manhattan only to find themselves caught up in a whole new set of problems. As Poet begins to navigate Rook’s world, she quickly realizes there may be a lot more to the world outside the city than she was led to believe, including the truth about Rook himself.
I really enjoyed the expansive world-building in this dystopian setting. You have two very different worlds: a closed-off city run by a government hiding more secrets than anyone could imagine, and a world beyond its walls that operates by an entirely different set of rules. As these worlds begin to collide, the truth behind New Manhattan’s many lies starts to unravel, and I was hooked!
Rook and Poet go through a lot of ups and downs in this book, so I would say the romance takes a bit of a back seat for most of the story. And if miscommunication is a trope that irritates you, just be prepared!
One of the things that stood out to me was Poet’s continued struggle with her family, especially her dad. There is something so heartbreaking about wanting answers, closure, and the resolution you deserve, only to realize that sometimes those things may never come. Not every relationship gets the ending we hope for, and I thought that added another emotional layer to Poet’s journey.
And the twist at the end…absolutely insane. It was nothing I could have possibly imagined, and it was both terrifying and devastating. The ending completely wrecked me and then left me with one of the most brutal cliffhangers.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This series is seriously SO good! The journey in this one and finally getting more information about what is actually going on was insane. There is truly never a dull moment in this series, and I am completely hooked.
I absolutely love the found family in this story and how they continue to rally around each other through everything. But I think the biggest thing for me in this book was Poet and her dad’s relationship. The growth between them was intense, and I loved seeing how much their relationship developed throughout this one.
Between the journey, the reveals, the relationships, and everything constantly happening, I could not put this down. This series just keeps getting better, and I cannot wait to see where it goes next!

A big shout out and thank you to the publisher for providing me an advanced reader’s copy in exchange for an honest review!
After having pushed myself to read a book that I didn’t enjoy at all, I experienced a slump that was more intense than any slump that has ever slumped before. I haven’t been able to read a single new book since then. I had listened to an audiobook or two that were short and sweet, but they weren’t books I needed to review. However, after what feels like eighty three years, Tuli’s work finally made me feel human.
Which brings us straight to the authors skill to write books that are so easy to lose oneself within. If there’s one thing you can count on Tuli doing for you, it’s to ensure her books are a breeze to experience. Not in the sense that they don’t address heavy themes, but that they are just balms to the soul of “slumpers” and so much fun and immersive for a normal reader. I’ve been trying to put into words what it is about her writing that’s so unexacting, and I think it’s the straightforward nature of the style. It’s like she’s delivering her story while looking you straight in the eye, and it’s such an honest and focused interaction that it’s hard to think about anything else or even look away. That’s the best way I can describe it.
A very special mention to the author having given a short but effective recap section at the beginning of the book! This greatly aids in supporting and recalling the foundation that the author laid in book one, upon which the world of book two builds. Storm Caller begins to unravel the hidden world of secrets and identities that was hinted at, in book one; and the author does a fantastic job of slowly but surely pulling at the thread that kept all that was concealed, wrapped tight. You can expect shock, heartbreak, horror and pain. I will say this book does reflect some of the social themes seen in the Fourth Wing world if you’ve read it; however (surprisingly) for me that didn’t take away from the experience, given how the other aspects of the story were unique and interesting. The plot twists, world building and character development are all neatly tied together and flow in great harmony with one other. They also wreck great destruction on our hearts. The fact that these two experiences can coexist is certainly astounding.
The plot in this story holds a very interesting space in the series, I feel. While, yes the book has its own inherent storyline and purpose, I personally feel this book is a perfect middle book because of its how it was designed/intended to bridge book one and three. It’s perfectly situated in the series and it is very clear the author has intentionally planned it to be so and executed it very well. But I’m going to let you find out on your own. *wink*
There’s something about the nature in which the author approaches the technique of storytelling that makes these three aspects work so well without overwhelming or confusing the reader. The story reads in a single person perdpective of the heroine, along with whom we learn about the world and its history and hidden truths.
The characters in this story truly take us on a journey of pain, horror and heartfelt emotion. There’s heartbreak around every corner, wrought upon by those you may have trusted and there’s warmth that flows in from places you may have never thought to look, or even known to exist.
The pace in every single Nisha J. Tuli book I’ve read has always been swift and even and Storm Caller is no different. The time predictor on my e-reader was giving me estimates that was shocking and you know what? It was right. I finished the second half of the book in one and a half hours. That’s just how Tuli rolls.
Also, I know it’s a small thing but I love when the title of a book makes coherent sense with the story. It just adds to the feeling of the book being a cohesive whole! Again, small thing, but it feels big.
Four and a half stars! This book is not a light stakes read. It is heavy and has themes that can be difficult for some, so please check trigger warnings before reading. Happy reading!
3.75 ⭐️ I had a pretty similar experience with Storm Caller as I did with Storm Breaker. I’d say this book is pretty much on par as the 1st book. These books are so easy and fast-paced to get through, and I really like the storms, electricity, and dystopian world. I also enjoyed getting to see more of the world outside of New Manhattan.
I still really like Poet and Rook together, and I think they have good chemistry. Poet did frustrate me sometimes in this book, though, especially with some of her choices and repetitive thoughts. There were also parts where I felt like the story was more focused on setting things up for the next book rather than actually moving the plot forward.
I think my biggest thing with this series is that I enjoy reading it, but I don’t feel super connected to it. I’ve read other dystopian series where I became really attached to the characters and the world, and I don’t quite have that feeling here. I think some of that might be because of the YA feel, but I’m still having fun with the series and definitely want to see how it ends.
The thrilling, fast paced adventure continues in this dystopian fantasy romance that picks up right where Storm Breaker left off. We get to see what’s really out there in the Wastes and meet a crew of new characters, including Rook’s mischievous and loving siblings. Poet and Rook’s relationship is getting stronger with every storm they weather and I adore them. So many questions are answered and there were some wild plot twists. Poet’s father was a complicated character and it was so satisfying to witness Poet realize her own strength and that he really doesn’t have any control over her. That last 25% was especially exhilarating and impossible to put down. The ending is setting up for a whole new adventure and I already cannot wait for book three and to learn more about the nature of the storms themselves. Thanks to the author and Entangled for the eARC! Also my guess for the next book’s title: Storm Wielder.
I love this dystopian series! Storm Caller picked up right where Storm Breaker ended and I am just longing for book 3 already! The whole book was non-stop, there are still girls who are trying to make Poet jealous, the world building continued, the romance heated up and the political aspect of this book appealed to me sooo much. Maybe it is because I'm feeling a little rebellious lately. As stated in the first review; If you love divergent or hunger games this is a book for you!
There was an interesting twist in this toward the end, but I do feel that this book was too predictable. Additionally, I think this book was also a little too YA for me. This isn’t a bad book by any means but it’s a standard dystopian romance with a girl from a high family and a boy from the outskirts, where the city that houses society is lying to everyone. Some things came and went way too easily in this, and the time jumped fast sometimes. I liked some of the newer characters we met in this but I don’t find myself finishing the series after this one.
Loved this one just as much as the first! This series keeps me on my toes, and honestly, the roller coaster is one I am very happy to stay on.
YA dystopian fantasy romance with Divergent vibes, but make it stormy. I absolutely love Nisha J. Tuli’s take on dystopian romance. The world gets SO much bigger in book two, the cast of characters becomes even more interesting, and the story expands in a way that has me more than ready for what’s next.
The twists, turns, and reveals just kept coming, and watching Poet’s growth was one of my favorite parts. Seeing her embrace her rage while still maintaining that deep sense of empathy and caring was so satisfying. She’s changed so much, but she hasn’t lost the parts of herself that make her her.
The thrilling, fast-paced adventure picks up right where Storm Breaker left off, and DANG, this book left me on another cliffhanger! Those last few chapters were SO action-packed. I was on the edge of my seat, trying to process everything happening.
I also love the little group of friends Poet has gained along the way. And even Rook’s family! We learn more about them, more about Poet’s dad and there are still so many questions I need answered.
This series just keeps getting bigger, wilder, and more addictive, and I NEED to know what happens next. Give me book three immediately!
I have no words. I love Nisha J. Tuli’s Storm Breaker series. Readers everywhere fell in love with Poet Graves and Rook Athira in Storm Breaker, the first book in the trilogy. I mean, how could you not? Poet has always lived her life as a high-society girl, doing what she was told to do, but always in fear for her life and wanting to be her own person. Rook was the mysterious Solitude outsider, feared by all, who had the guts to attend Amery Academy, meant only for the upper class. Together, the two formed a friendship built on human kindness, shared experience, and trust. Their friendship ultimately led to a forbidden romance that seems destined.
Storm Breaker was simply child’s play compared to Storm Caller, which can perhaps be read as a standalone. Before the first chapter, Nisha sums up some key events of Storm Breaker. All that’s missing is a character glossary showing relationships or personalities, and ALL the reasons Rook Athira is in the running for “book boyfriend” of the year.
Storm Caller picks up where Storm Breaker left off and pretty quickly starts with the surprises. Lingering questions about Rook and his world are answered, and you're able to see how he became the person he is. Poet continues to come into her own and shine. I love watching her time and again step into a role she never asked for, showing courage, strength, and determination. She and Rook risk their lives to do what’s right for all of the citizens of New Manhattan and the Wastes.
The political intrigue continues, with new discoveries and a cat-and-mouse game where the lines are blurred between who is the predator and who is the prey. In this installment of the series, friends become foes, alliances are formed and broken, and truths have never been scarier. Just when you think you have it all figured out, Nisha hits you with something new.
Storm Caller was a fun, exciting, heartbreaking read. Thank the Warming Age stars that there is a third book. I have it on good authority that things will work out. But I'm sure it's going to be another heart-plunging, heart-stopping adventure. The question is, am I truly ready?

I really enjoyed this book. I was a bit concerned that this book would suffer from 2nd book syndrome, but boy was I wrong.
The story flows nicely and has loads of twists and turns. It is YA and has some mild intimate moments, but they are written pretty well and are somewhat closed door.
We found some things out and I am very curious what the last book brings us.
4.5⭐️ FUUUUCK and I thought the last cliffhanger was stressful…!!! This book was action packed, lots of twists and turns, lovable new characters introduced, political intrigue that turned things upside down over and over. Fast paced with short chapters that made it hard to put down! I adore Poet & Rook (especially Rook). I felt so engaged with the world building and this book read like a movie in my head. Cried through the last 20%. I know this *just* came out but I’m already dying for the next!!!!
If there’s one thing you can count on returning to the New World, it’s that trouble definitely continues to find them, and it seems to take a lot of continuous effort to stay out. Especially when they find themselves in the thick of it. Sorting through truth and deception.
The lies run deep, and there are so many layers and things to unpack in book two, I was at the edge of seat the entire time. I read this in one sitting, sore limbs, sore ass, zero blood flow. It was worth it lol.
And the chemistryyyyy. Ugh. The sweet and tender moments they share?! The quiet devotion, the longing in the stares. I LOVE Rook, and he is just the man for Poet. He would literally cross the wastes time and time again for this woman. A heart so big you can’t help but fall too. ( He also falls first and it is soooo endearing. )
So much growth and character development for both Poet & Rook, but specifically Poet. She really becomes someone who is unafraid, someone who is free. Someone who has more strength than she ever gave herself credit for, with the bravery to match.
I really appreciated how in depth book two went into the New World to give us a better understanding of what’s outside of it, and a deeper look into why their society is built the way that it is. I also loved the introduction of all the new characters and their personalities. Navy is such a little firecracker, and is an excellent judge of character. Loved her the minute she entered the page lol.
So much action, a jaw dropping unraveling of secrets, and a wild ending. I need book two immediately!!
I was so incredibly excited to be back in this world and boy did this book not disappoint. I don't want to give too much away, so I won't go into any details. Poet and Rook... oh how much I love them. They are so incredibly strong, they are so goddamn devoted, and I just cannot get enough of them. I went through a roller coaster of emotions, because of course I was swooning and kicking my feet at Rook's actions, my heart was racing with the amount of action we got, like damn it was jampacked, and the amount of revelations oh my god my head is spinning. Revelation after plot twist and another plot twist with some more actions, like barely any time to catch your breath, though there were also some more quite moments and how I love those... not because I don't like the more high stake action parts, but yeah I mean like I said, I love those two so much and those quite moments were everything. Also, yes I did shed some tears, but I won't say anything about anything because I don't want to spoil anything. And I also have a plethora of thoughts on side characters, but again, I don't want to spoil anything, so you'll going to have to discover those for yourself :) Oh and let's not forget about that ending, because what do you mean that was it?!?!?!?! GIVE ME MORE PLEASEEE
