Sterek
Derek gets the first text message two months after he leaves Beacon Hills. He stares at it for a long time without actually opening it up, trying to figure out why Stiles would be texting him at all. Over the next few months, as walls come down and a bond is made, the Nogitsune rears its head in Beacon Hills. Things start fitting together in Derek’s mind: his dreams, the door he sees Stiles enter, the loss of memory. Stiles’ body, his mind, are no longer just his. Something is sharing it, controlling him. It’s a horrifying realization. Derek doesn’t know what it is yet, but he’s damn well going to find out.

In which the Nogitsune ordeal brings Derek running back to Beacon Hills and, in the end, to Stiles.

No point in mincing words: this was awesome and I f*cking loved it.

The story is told through Derek’s POV (winning!) and is set post season 3A; it acts as a canon-divergent retelling of season 3B while the whole Nogitsune debacle is afoot.

There are a helluva lot of show related details in this one and it's told in a way that seems to assume the reader knows the finer points of the events already, so this could potentially be a really confusing one for readers unless they are either really well-versed with the TW-fandom or avid watchers of the show itself.

The story begins roughly two months after Derek and Cora have skipped off to South America, and sees Stiles re-establish contact with Derek through a series of seemingly random text messages. After initial resistance, Derek returns Stiles’ texts and becomes somewhat eager for the contact. The two form an unexpected bond over a few months of back and forth communication. Derek slowly realises his feelings for Stiles have changed dramatically since they last saw each other and he’s in denial for a time.

He’s fallen for Stiles through his words alone, and he hates himself for letting it happen.

Luckily, he gets over it pretty quickly. Drama in Beacon Hills, specifically a threat to Stiles’ wellbeing, sees Derek haul ass home to play hero. Yay!

Once the threat is overcome, the last quarter of the story has some epically smexy and emotional moments. Three words: claiming, mating, knotting!!! As far as Sterek first-time scenes are concerned, this will always be one of my favourite ways it plays out.

So scurry along Sterek friends and get reading!!

I'm impressed. This fic had a lot of things going for it as it seamlessly blends canon S3A with 3B, and I totally appreciate it when an author can "realistically" bring these two together.

So through a series of texts Stiles slowly burrows his way under Derek's skin and he's quite horrified at that but at the same time, he can't resist.

He gets used to the texts.
He gets attached.
He gets addicted.
He feels. And he hates that.

However it doesn't prevent him from returning to Beacon Hills to help Stiles out because he's inexplicably pulled, and what evolves is some very heavy feels and fantastic, smart dialogue. So I was excited over said dialogue and the gripping emotional exposition because as mentioned above - this was "realistic" to the characters and one of the best I've read.

And we couldn't be completely satisfied without the hot smex that ensues. So another point in its favor is that this author doesn't rush things and I loved that. The last half of the book is them realizing their feelings for each other, dealing with them, and sealing them all in a nice perfect package (with KNOTTING). For you. Enjoy.

Loved the first half--epic Derek feels, my favorite.

Loved the end--'cause, you know...

Also, there's epic Sterek love and the Sheriff being supportive of their relationship. It just made me so freakin' happy.

But I have a few issues. First, this scene (from the show) is never addressed:

I am perfectly willing to believe that Derek was hiding his epic feelz for Stiles by being a dismissive douchebag--but I would've like to have heard that as an explanation.

The other issue I have is the summarization of events from the TV show in the later part of the fic. I know, it's one of those things that makes fanfiction, fanfiction--but I guess this is just yet another sign (and there are a lot of them) that I will never be an official member of this (or maybe any) fandom. There's this voice in my head that says it's just lazy writing.

Still, as mentioned above I truly loved the first half and the end--Sterek fans should definitely read this one.

I haven't read this in a while, so I will try to recap the best I can, I will probably reread it again soon, so this review might up date. But what I remember loving about this fic is the feel - this dark, moody cloud hanging in the air above the boys. It kind of had this glum, unsettled, but quiet feel to it somewhat like in In Case The Daylight Never Comes for those who liked the "mood" in that fic.

This takes place between season 3A and 3B - the four months from the time that Derek left Beacon Hills to bring Cora to South America and continues into 3B. It is not mandatory that you have watched the show to understand this, but it would probably be very helpful. At any rate, Derek is living with Cora in SA and begins receiving texts from Stiles. It is told from Derek's POV, so the reader is in the dark as to what is going on with Stiles (though, for those of you who watched the show, you obviously have an inkling). The first half of the fic(which personally is my favorite part) is a series of text messages and a phone call between Stiles and Derek and Derek's perspective on his communication with Stiles. I love this format in the written word, just a back and forth between the characters that demonstrates rather than "tells" about their evolving relationship. The second half of the fic is Derek returning to Beacon Hills, realizing something is going on with Stiles, and their relationship moving forward.

The relationship building is paced very well for a fic under 100 pages. And the angsty build (Stiles and Derek aren't really friends when Derek leaves BH), emotional man pain, hurt/ comfort elements and almost melancholy coming together, all very satisfying.

Also, one of my favorite parts (which I often find bungled in these fics)

Despite being set through some of the most action centric parts of the show, this fic is very much relationship centric and saturated in emotion. It has a feel good ending, but pick a cloudy day to read it to set the mood properly.

* And random side note on the sex - It is a very emotional read, but the last sex scene in it, well there is knotting and Stiles has a filthy mouth to egg Derek on with. In the last few pages of the fic it goes NC-17 really fast.

So I'm conflicted. I really, really, really loved this in parts and didn't at all enjoy other parts.

Relationship development? Fabulous.
Set up? Fabulous.
Feelz? Lots.
Awww moments? Lots.
Add to all that S3B plot and I should have been a very, very happy camper. And I kind of was.

But.

Well sometimes things just dramatically progressed without any warning or build up whatsoever. I think if you didn't watch the show or if you haven't read a large amount of Sterek prior you might get a bit lost.

And the last 1/4 was strange. Derek kept referring to Stiles as a teen. Like constantly. And I know he was a teen but it was a bit weird that he kept doing it.

Also I wasn't really sure who was where and doing what at smexy time.

It was close to being lovely, unfortunate that it missed the mark near the end.

"Why didn't you ever have any furniture in your house?" Stiles asks one day, and Derek stares at his phone for a good ten minutes before he decides to reply.

"Never thought I would live long enough to use it." He doesn't realise how true the statement is until he types it.

A few minutes later, Stiles replies.

"I'm glad you did."

Quite good, but I did feel as if I were missing some things.
Some things were described in one sentence. I don’t like it when that happens.

Like this.

The next few days are all rushing around, working with Scott as things go to hell. He’s pissed that they threw a party in his loft and he isn’t prepared for the sudden attacks by hooded figures, but he uses the anger and adrenaline to power him through.

And this made no sense to me.

Turns out that things are even more complicated and twisted than they thought. Derek saves Chris Argent and then tries to kill him, and he can’t imagine how Stiles is managing to stay sane if he always feels as out of control as Derek does when the flies possess him.

It could also be that I’m halfway through S3 of TW and this fic takes place after that.

Overall an enjoyable fic, but don’t expect fluff. This one is dark.

Started out well but too much telling not enough showing OTT emotional melodrama with not enough evidence to back it up.

Didn't work for me. The storytelling felt choppy, and was, largely, boring. But, hey, knotting...so not all bad.

Wow, this blew me away. Derek's POV was extremely well done. Derek is sad, introspective, isolated. It all comes through in his thoughts. The first part where stiles and Derek text and then talk on the phone was very interesting. It was a refreshing way to see budding feelings emerge. There were some plot points consistent with the show but they were briefly mentioned to set the scene. It's all about Sterek here and especially Derek. The smexy at the end!!!! I realise what I just wrote isn't an actual sentence but fuck it, I just want to gush! Emotive, sensual, hawt hawt hawt coming together for stiles and Derek that left me a very happy reader. Will definitely pay attention to other works by this author.

Highly recommend!

This is all Stiles and Derek's burgeoning connection, and it's good, but I wished that some of the action points were described instead of told.

The first half, with all the texting, the guilt and angst and the growing epic feels, was like, a solid 4. A huge sighing OH at Derek smelling Stiles. And I loved loved loved that Derek went back for him.

But. Then I ran into this wall of "the teen" and "the human", everything was happening much too fast, and there was just something off about the sex (although, yeah, knotting, mmm, and the bit with the sheriff checking on them was to die for).
