This book was was really a good story the back and forth between the main characters had me wanting things to move faster than it did. The end had me so worried I need to know what happens next.
I wish I would’ve known this was the second book of the series. I would’ve read it first but at least it was written so it still made sense without reading it

Wed to the Orc Captive was such a great palate cleanser for me and was not what I had expected it to be (in a good way). It was a quick and easy read, and I read it in 2 days.

While it can be read as an interconnected standalone, I found myself wishing I had read the first book in the series to understand some of the side characters better. I will be going back and reading the first book before the next one comes out.

I enjoyed this book, but it seriously took miscommunication to the max in the most infuriating way. Not only is there a language/cultural barrier, but the two main characters would rather die than express what they are feeling to each other, even though they are feeling the same things for the majority of the book. At some points, this did start to become repetitive as well.

There were some parts towards the beginning that I felt were confusing that really took me out of the flow of reading. I am unsure whether this is because it was an ARC and do not know whether this will make it into the final published copy. Overall, it was still a cute and enjoyable story, and I’d recommend it to fans of short monster romances.

This is the second book in the series, I have not read the first book yet but still feel that this could be read as a standalone.

The two main characters meet under not the most ideal circumstances and then they me up on a journey together. They are from two different worlds and must learn to communicate in order to truly understand each other. I enjoyed how both MC’s grew throughout the book.

There is a little magic, a little bit of monsters, a little bit of spice and a very enjoyable story. If you are looking for a cute story with lots of adventure then this is for you!

Excuse me?! You cannot put orc, captive, and wed in the same title and expect me to behave like a sensible reader. 😂💚🔥 I saw this and immediately thought, “Well… this is either going to be a terrible idea or my new personality.”

And honestly?

Both. 😂

I went into Wed to the Orc Captive expecting monster-romance chaos, and this book absolutely gave me the kind of ridiculous setup I was hoping for. The whole situation had me hooked because there is just something about throwing two characters into an unexpected relationship and watching the tension unfold.

The chemistry was definitely one of my favourite parts. 👀🔥 There’s plenty of push-and-pull energy, attraction, complicated feelings, and those moments where you're sitting there thinking:

“Are we really doing this right now?”

Yes.

Yes, we are.

I also enjoyed the dynamic between the characters and watching their relationship develop. There were some genuinely sweet moments mixed in with the tension, which gave the romance a nice balance rather than making everything about the spice.

That said, there were a few moments where I wanted a little more development, particularly with some of the relationship progression. I enjoyed the overall story, but a little more time to let certain moments breathe would have made the emotional side hit even harder for me.

Still, if you hand me an orc romance with forced marriage vibes, chemistry, fantasy chaos and questionable circumstances, I'm probably going to read it.

Do I have standards? Yes.

Do those standards disappear when an orc enters the chat? Apparently. 😂💚

Another great story by Penny McMara. I fell in love with her world when I read Wed to the Orc Warrior, and this story continues to deliver.


In this one, we have a similar premise: a human female who doesn't necessarily want to marry an orc but does so to save someone else from having to do it. However, unlike Khal, who was actively seeking a human bride, Vrathgar is imprisoned and on the chopping block. The humans seem to think that marrying him off to one of their village's humans will secure their safety with the orcs. Who is he to correct them of their stupidity when it means he gets to go free?


These two have a mutual understanding. They know they were put in a difficult position in order to survive. As they travel toward safety, you start to see them work together while still navigating this new situation. I liked that Annora never really fought against being an orc bride. She volunteered for it, and therefore settles into her fate. However, it's clear that the abusive upbringing she suffered is not the future she has with Vrathgar. I think having him be gentle and go slow with Annora really helps her let her guard down. She was expecting a brute, but instead, he is probably more civilized and kind than the humans from her village.


Just like the first book, we follow the couple getting married, traversing to the Orc lands, and navigating the fact that an orc brought in an outsider. Unlike the first book, Vrathgar is not a high-ranking orc; in fact, a lot of people do not trust or care for him since his father is from a tribe known to be rather brutal and aggressive. So, not only does Annora need to navigate being an outsider, but her husband's low standing doesn't earn her any respect either. It was really interesting to see the tribe's reaction to both of them showing up.


I have thoroughly enjoyed both books in the series thus far, and I am curious to see who the next orc/human couple will be!

**ARC Review**

*Wed to the Orc Captive* was a good read overall, and I enjoyed the premise and the relationship between the characters. There were definitely moments that worked really well, and I liked watching their feelings develop.

That said, there were a few moments where I found myself thinking, *“Okay… this could probably have been left out,”* or *“Did we really need this?”* Some parts felt like they could have been tightened up without taking anything away from the overall story.

But my biggest issue wasn't actually the language barrier.

It was the fact that these two characters seemed to be constantly **talking past each other emotionally**.

They both clearly have feelings for one another. They both notice the attraction, care, and connection developing, yet neither seems willing to believe that the other person could possibly feel the same way. So instead of actually talking about what they're feeling, they continually make assumptions about the other's thoughts and intentions.

And honestly… it drove me a little crazy. 😂

There were definitely moments where I wanted to grab them both and say, **“YOU BOTH FEEL THE SAME THING! JUST TALK TO EACH OTHER!”**

I understand that miscommunication can create tension in a romance, but at times this felt a little repetitive, especially when the reader can see what is happening long before the characters acknowledge it.

Despite that, I did enjoy the book. The premise was interesting, the romance had some lovely moments, and there was enough here to keep me reading.

Overall, I'd say this was a **good, enjoyable read with a few frustrating moments**, particularly when it came to the emotional miscommunication.

Captive- married and now have to understand both worlds. Along with dealing with people not understanding and both of them coming to thier feeling.

I fall completely in love with this story and didn’t want it to end. I love orc and stories like this is why!
The names in this one were so unique, then you have them talking two different languages which I am sure she made it up and very clever. You are very invested in a storyline if you’re doing that. I said it before and I will say it again! Indie author hit better. Plus the world that she created, chefs kiss!

Yes this is book 2 but this is a standalone and could be read out of order. But I will forsure be going back and reading book 1 and can’t wait for book 3 to come out next year!

You have a orc that is captive and they tell him. Married a human or die. Little did he know that she was a witch along with how it was going to turn out! She not only needs to be accepted by his family but the same goes for how human are looking at him! The emotional impact this book had put on me had me at the edge of my seat. There was a few parts that I thought was rushed and wanted a little more to that part of the story but overall all this was an amazing book!

At this point, regardless of what a synopsis says, if there's a non-human love interest, or the word "captive," it's going to be smut. And that's ok, I went in fully expecting it.

It's so impossibly far away from that though.

Wed to the Orc Captive is the start of an achingly tender journey of healing and acceptance for both main characters; Annora who has been made small by the men of her own "civilized" people, and Vrathgar who has never been seen or accepted as more than a bastard to be used and thrown away. There was so much here the was painful to read; not brutality itself, but the changes wrought in those who survive it. I appreciate the care with which Annora and Fenha were written; the betrayal of their bodies and minds, that inescapable, infuriating senseless terror that only serves to keep you small and meek even when the danger is long past.

I really look forward to continuing this series. Be warned: it was left on a bit of a cliff hanger, but not one so big that I regret starting this before it was finished, and not one that leaves us worrying about the direct fate of our MCs.

I absolutely LOVED this book. I could really relate to the FMC's mental health and it was nice to see her work through it. This was a single POV but I definitely found myself wishing I knew what was going through the MMCs mind a few times! I cried during this in several places. I really felt for both the MCs.

Also, when I requested this ARC, I did not know that it was the second book in a series, whoops! You could still follow the storyline but I found myself questioning things about the other couple and wishing I knew their story! Looked for this one on Goodreads and found the first book! So now that is on my TBR list. You can definitely enjoy this book without reading Book 1 but I also would recommend reading Book 1 first so you will have the answers to questions I dont yet!

This review has been on its way for a while, I got this book as an arc but fell horribly sick lasting for over a week. In fact I am still sick but as soon as I felt good enough to read I couldn't put this book down. (It's past my bedtime right now! Shhhh... 🤫)

I read this book as a stand alone and I feel like I did the series injustice by doing so. There are so many side characters (assuming from the first book) that I would love to know more about.

Penny has made her own Orc culture in this book and it's so interesting. There is a huge culture shock to the fmc and the fact that she is so traumatized by her past doesn't help. The urning and banter is spot on, I was giggling and crying! Not much spice but still a good plot!

There are inconsistencies with spelling of names (ex Bogdanna vs Bogdana) and I'm just unsure if that is the arc or if it made it to the final printing.

Wed to the Orc Captive by Penny McMara was a fun, steamy read with plenty of tension, romance, and an intriguing orc hero. I enjoyed watching the relationship develop and seeing the characters work through the circumstances that brought them together. The story had a good balance of action and romance, and the chemistry kept me turning the pages. The world-building was interesting, and I liked the unique take on the arranged-marriage/captive trope. There were a few moments where I wanted a little more depth and development from the characters, but overall, it was an entertaining and enjoyable story. Overall, Wed to the Orc Captive is definitely worth checking out. Four stars from me!

This is book two in the series. Set in the same world but with a different MMC. This could be read as a standalone, but a warning that characters in the first book are mentioned.

I really enjoyed this - the characters were well written. Two people who felt unworthy and not enough find love. Their communication skills need work - not by the author - but I found their miscommunication to be frustrating. Which was the point. They realize they are bad at communicating with each other and try to work together and learn to communicate better.

If you need a quick read for a great palate cleanser, this is it! Would definitely read more by Penny McMara!

This was book two of this series even though ive not read book one you can still read this one as a stand alone and can follow it easily some or the characters from book one do appear in this book.
The book is well written and keeps you wanting to read more. Our fmc and mmc get married as an alliance to stop orcs from attacking the humans. There both fall in love with each other but miscommunication leads them to both to feel that their both want to leave each other. It was lovely to read them work though the misunderstanding and stand together as one at the end. Even though this typically isn't the genre I read I still enjoyed the book and would recommend this book to other.

I truly was unsure how I'd feel as I haven't ever read a story about an Orc before. The book enriched and captured me in. I truly connected to the main character, learning who she was before and who she became after.

There were many nights I stayed awake to just read more - and to feel how connected they were. The story was not overly spicy, which in this case was okay as you truly got to learn the history of the characters, though if Penny wanted to ever add to the book, please do hehehe, go more in depth.

That ending - oh boy I was really going something else... my heart rate picked up, I wanted to cry and scream (I couldn't it was 10:30pm and people were sleeping)

But overall loved the story and I surely would read again. (but once I've recovered)

There are many things to enjoy about this story but the thing which I really liked is that the FMC doesn’t change her whole self to fit in with the orcs, she is not a warrior and doesn’t manage to miraculously become one through sheer will - I love the overall message of physical strength is not the be all and end all.

I really wanted to love the whole story but felt it got a bit lost in the middle with extensive miscommunication between FMC and MMC.
The intimate scenes were also awkward as seems to be an attempt at spice on page but without any description of the act, I would actually describe this as a fully closed door romance (not a problem in itself but it doesn’t seem to pick one way or the other)

I'll admit this book was absolutely not what I expected. I suppose I thought it would be more of a monster romance, but it teetered more toward fantasy and low spice.

The main characters Annora and Vrathgar were both underdeveloped in my opinion. The author spent way too much time on their insecurities and shortcomings instead of trying to build their growth. Only in the last 50-60 pages did they go from awkward and fumbling to defending one another to the end. Don't get me wrong, I love a good slow burn but this was glacial.

I had this rated at a 3 until the end. The story took a huge leap and bought everything together in the final 2 chapters. I about choked at one point because I thought the grueling journey from awkward tolerance to love was going to get cut short, and it didn't seem fair after all of that agonizing. That sealed the deal for 4 stars for me. Anything that yank my emotional chain like that gets much deserved praise and admiration.

Such a great book! A story of two people who feel unworthy and unloved finding love in an unexpected place with unexpected people (each other!)

This can and does work as a standalone seeing that I haven’t read the first. The end did feel a bit rushed BUT I went from reading the first page to almost 80% of it in one day because I enjoyed it that much.

It’s a perfect quick read and is quite unique. I look forward to reading more from this author!

What a great orc romp! The story line was fabulous and kept me engaged. I really loved the romance and sweetly spicy elements. My only challenge was the sometimes stilted writing (coming primarily from off comma and tense use combinations — mostly technically not grammatically incorrect but read that way on page). The main characters were well developed and I liked the interesting character trait that orcs can see in the dark with infrared.

Good character development, but wish for more characters' physical descriptions. Loved FM magical abilities. And MC loving heart for found family.

Both main characters had a trauma background, so communication is a little muddle in the middle chapters. Very tense tones.

The pull between these characters is so good. It annoyed me that she questions everything instead of just living and enjoying everything. He needed to explain more of what was happening. Communication wasn't their strong suit, but they made it work. I absolutely loved this book and the bonus chapter. The banter and comedy between them at times had me full blown crying from laughing so hard. It's Soo good!!

I liked the sitting of it, and I loved the characters, and I loved the flow of events in it.
Things were going slowly but not too slowly that I got bored.
I liked the idea of it more than book one, honestly, but I've noticed that the writing style improved from book one.
