I really enjoyed this one! It’s such a fun mix of old-school sci-fi and fantasy, with an intriguing story, interesting characters, and a world that had me happily along for the ride.
Neon was definitely not the FMC I expected, and I mean that in the best way. I’m still not entirely sure what I thought she was going to be, but whatever those expectations were… Neon said, “Cute. Anyway…” I’m definitely invested in seeing where her story goes next.
And Silas? Exactly what I expected from an assassin MMC. Mysterious, dangerous, and very much giving 'yes, this checks out.'
The world-building also did a great job setting things up for the rest of the series without making me feel like I was reading a giant instruction manual, which I appreciate.
Needless to say, I’ll be checking out the rest of the series because apparently I now have questions and must have answers.

This is difficult to rate. It was listed under Net Galley as a romance but it is not that.
I kept waffling between being really interested in the universe/world building and pretty bored. I feel like all the elements for a good fantasy are here but somehow they do not lay together quite right. I think I will probably pick this series up again when it is finished because I am intriguedand there is definitely a lot of potential here!

Neon Quinn Must Die is the kind of fantasy thriller that grabs you from the first page and refuses to loosen its grip. Sylas is a Nightcrawler, a man trained by the Empire to follow orders, hunt targets and kill without hesitation. He has been taught that attachment is weakness and that his own feelings do not matter. Then one mission changes everything. Sylas enters a small village expecting another routine kill, but instead he finds a frightened child hiding in a cupboard. He makes a choice he was never supposed to make. He lets her live. That single act begins a journey that changes everything he believes about himself. His next target is Neon Quinn, an Aberrant who has been marked by the Empire. Sylas expects to find someone dangerous. What he does not expect is a woman who looks at him as if she can see the person buried underneath the weapon. Neon is strong, clever and fearless, but she is also carrying her own secrets. The connection between them grows slowly, and I loved every step of it. Sylas has spent his entire life being told that he is a weapon. Neon keeps treating him like a human being. That difference becomes the heart of the story. I especially loved the way Sylas changes without suddenly becoming a completely different person. He still knows how to fight. He still knows how to kill. His body still reacts like the weapon he was trained to be. But now there is something inside him that his training cannot control. He begins to question orders. He begins to remember. And most importantly, he begins to choose. The romance between Sylas and Neon is intense because it is built on trust that neither of them gives easily. Their quiet moments are just as powerful as the dangerous ones. Every touch means something because Sylas has spent years being taught that his body belongs to the Empire. With Neon, he begins to discover that it can belong to him. The world around them is also fascinating. The Empire, the Nightcrawlers, the Sunspears, the Onix implants and the mysterious Veil all create a world that feels dark and dangerous without becoming difficult to follow. I loved the Nightcrawler rules at the beginning of the chapters because they show exactly what Sylas has been taught, while his own thoughts slowly begin fighting against those rules. The more he changes, the more those words start to feel like a prison. There is also a powerful mystery surrounding Sylas himself. Why was he chosen? What was done to him? Why does his body react the way it does? And what is the Emperor really planning? The answers come slowly, which kept me wanting to read just one more chapter. The story also becomes much bigger than Sylas and Neon. The danger reaches the Sunspears, the Empire closes in and people around them are forced to decide whether Sylas can truly be trusted. I loved that the book does not make forgiveness easy. Sylas has done terrible things. His past cannot simply disappear because he has finally found someone he loves. He has to live with what he has done while trying to become someone different. That gives his journey real weight. I will not reveal what happens to Neon, what Sylas discovers about his past or what the Empire has planned because those are the moments you need to experience yourself. I will only say that the final chapters left me with a mixture of heartbreak and hope. Sylas loses something precious, but he is also left with something he has never had before. A reason to keep living. Neon Quinn Must Die is dark, emotional, romantic and full of action, but underneath all of that is a beautiful story about a man learning that he is more than what someone else created him to be. If you love dark fantasy, dangerous heroes, strong heroines, enemies and allies, forbidden feelings, secret powers, powerful empires and romances that grow in the middle of impossible danger, this is a must read. And if you become attached to Sylas and Neon like I did, be prepared. Their story is far from over.

I received an advanced copy of this book, and this is my honest review.
Neon Quinn Must Die is a very gritty book. I very much enjoyed reading it. It was hard to put down because I really wanted to know what would happen next. The characters are amazing, Sylas will live rent-free in my mind for a while. And Neon Quinn will return. Obviously, she has a whole Saga already out.
That being said, I was a bit disappointed, I never really felt like I was reading a slowburn or enemies to lovers. Yes, they were enemies in the beginning and became "lovers" by the end. It just missed the mark for me, I didn't feel the tension or build. No banter, just sweet, confusing for Sylas, moments.
I felt like the whole book took place within about a weeks time, I could be wrong, but that doesn't give slowburn vibes. It honestly felt a bit rushed to me. It worked. It definitely works. It just wasn't really slow except that you had to wait til the last 10% of the book for those 2 to actually get together.
Now the ending! Oh my geebus!!! The twist, that I kinda saw coming, but not the way it did, and the cliffhanger!! I have not read any of the Glitched saga. This is my introduction to the world of Neon Quinn and Sylas. I can't wait to get my hands on the first book! Someone reviewed and said that if you want the maximum emotional damage to read the saga first, then pick up this prequel. I haven't read them yet, and I felt some damage just by knowing what the saga is about, so I think I'm glad I read this one first and the get the story in chronologically order.
This book is definitely perfect for those who like futuristic vibes and cyberpunk. (As a player of Horizon Zero Dawn, I really enjoyed the Cogmaws)
It's dark, MMC is very morally gray, but I wouldn't want him any other way. I would say it's fairly fast paced, it moves along, no stalling, except for the "Order" that gets stalled indefinitely.
the spice is not there, nothing explicit, which I honestly appreciate. I have nothing against spicy reads, I just need more plot than smut, and this book delivered. Overall, I really enjoyed the book, I just had a few expectations going in that were not met. If I went in blind I wouldn't have been disappointed in the slightest.

If you love enemies-to-lovers with twists that will genuinely ruin your sleep schedule, this book is for you. Yes, it ends on a brutal cliffhanger that will shatter your heart into tiny pieces, but there is just enough hope dangling in front of you to keep you alive for book two. I received a free advance review copy and am voluntarily leaving this review!
I'll try to express how the writing of this book is so delicious. It has a mouth feel like poetry with the sharpness of swordplay. How Loki Orion describes the dehumanization of Sylas and the subsequent rehumanization (not a word, but should be) is beautiful AND bloody. I now think caterpillars turning into butterflies is a more terrible transition than we know.
The setup of the novel is brilliant. Every single chapter kicks off with an excerpt from The Nightcrawler Creed, the ruthless assassin doctrine engineered by the ruling regime. The entire story is told exclusively from Sylas’s POV, which is a stroke of genius. It pulls you straight into the mind of an assassin whose humanity was systematically crushed out of him.
We literally open with Sylas executing an order to wipe out an entire town. He fails the mission on one small detail, he spares a single child. His next assignment? Hunt down Neon Quinn, end her life, and drag her corpse back to the emperor. Simple.
Wrong. Neon is completely off-script. She is powerful, fiercely protective, and constantly throws wrenches into his plans. Sylas repeatedly tells himself, “Okay, I’ll kill her right after I get just a little more intel.” Except the more time they spend together, the more that intel starts piecing his buried humanity back together.
It is bloody, gorgeous, and agonizingly slow-burn. At its core, this book is about vulnerability, yearning, and rediscovering what it feels like to actually care about living. Go read it immediately, just prepare yourself emotionally and be patient. I told you it was a cliffhanger.

To find a book that has the reader so engrossed that it only takes them three days of reading to finish it cover to cover? That was me!
I was brought into Neon Quinn’s world by Glitched and Fractured. I am making a home in her world with Neon Quinn Must Die. The cyberpunk, sci fi fantasy genre is built for the ones who were called too different in their school years, adolescence, and into their adulthood. It’s a wonderful thing to be deemed by society as different then, huh? I never would have found the beauty in the genre if it weren’t for the amount of detail so lovingly and tenderly put into words by Loki.
Neon Quinn Must Die is a read that gives the reader a chance to see a slow burn with an assassin that learns humanity through the eyes of someone unexpected. A woman that wasn’t supposed to see the sunrise. A woman that’s only meant to be a means to an end, of sating the hunger inside of him.
Readers are given the chance to see Sylas, our main antagonist, learn what it feels like to feel emotions. Neon gives something of a life back to him. The beauty in which emotions can be felt when all one has known to emotionless and numb. A Nightcrawler isn’t supposed to feel… anything… yet…
Neon Quinn Must Die gives humanity in the cracks of a man that feels nothing like a man, just a body made to do the utmost worst. That’s what life is all about in these pages: not knowing who you are, losing yourself, slowly who you are, and eventually finding who you want to be.
YET, that’s something you’ll have to see within these beautifully written, laid out pictures of words on these pages.

As someone who read Glitched and Fractured before reading the prequel I knew where this was headed, however I didn’t expect it to be so nerve wracking. It was painful to hope for the best while waiting for the other shoe to drop. I gasped with the plot twist and now I am questioning what I thought I knew, I can’t wait to see where this story leads us.
I will be honest when I read Glitched and Fractured I wanted it to be a why choose. Now that I know the truth about Sylas, I need it to be a HEA. Loki Orion did a fantastic job writing the mind of a cold blooded assassin, experiencing Sylas falling in love was just magical. I highlighted so many parts and quotes that had me feeling butterflies, as well as others that gave me dread.
I truly recommend reading Glitched and Fractured before Neon Quinn Must Die for the ultimate level of emotional damage.

Sylas is a trained assassin who has been built to obey. When he gets assigned to kill Neon Quinn, he is fixated on following through and bringing the body back, as per his orders. He unknowingly ends up thwarting Neon’s own plans by botching her public execution. The two help one another through the desert, both drawn to each other, despite Sylas not giving up much information about himself. There are glimpses of Sylas’ background, how he became a Nightcrawler and what he had to endure. Neon senses there is much to Sylas beneath the surface and is determined to help him overcome the brutal nature of being a Nightcrawler. There are a lot of twists and turns, a very slow burn romance and intelligent characters. Neon is a really well-written heroine; smart, selfless, intuitive and tough. I really liked her & Sylas and look forward to reading the next installment. I received an ARC copy of this book and am leaving a review voluntarily.

I completely fell in love with this book! From the very first chapters, the plot and the mind-blowing twists pulled me in so deeply that I couldn't stop reading. The dynamic between Sylas and Neon is pure perfection a lethal assassin engineered to kill and a fierce, defiant rebel uncovering dark truths. The chemistry, the tension, and the way they challenge each other made me fall head over heels for these characters.
The world-building is fascinating, the pacing is incredible, and the emotional stakes kept me on the edge of my seat. I highly recommend this to anyone who loves dark, thrilling, high-stakes sci-fi romance!

Growing up with old school scifi, I found Neon Quinn Must Die a delightful mix of tonal throwback to 70s scifi with a modern romance flavor. I didn't realize that it was part of a bigger world/series when I picked it up, but it wasn't a concern. I didn't feel like I was missing out on the bigger story and in fact am interested in picking up more from this story and author. My only quibble is that sometimes I felt the story dragged into detail after detail. Sometimes it's nice to drop something to tease later and move on, but the author dug into everything in the moment. All good story, just slow in parts.

This was so cool 😎 The fights were giving Ezio Auditore vibes from Assassin’s Creed; the E2L was E2Ling, and the Art—omg the art. Loki is a phenomenal author/artist combo and it’s always super refreshing to see the characters (and monsters) exactly as the author pictures them.
A fun read with very descriptive writing and immersive storytelling. My favourite parts were actually the little tidbits of lore in the chapter headers (Nightcrawler tenets & directives), these were giving 4W lore vibes and I just loved that.

Unfortunately this book did not meet my expectations. I couldn't connect with the characters or the storyline and I really wanted to. I found some of the terms used to describe things such as the monsters really confusing. It would have been great to get more of an explanation or a glossary of terms. I did think Neon Quinn was a good FMC but I felt a bit disconnected from Sylas and so I was not really invested in the romance aspect. The writing is brilliant though and the author has a great way with words.

OH. MY. WHAT!?! This...I can't even get my thoughts together. Like I need to start book 2 NOW!!!!!!
This was such a wild ride! And all the twists at the end? CHEF'S KISS! An original story! Something fresh and dark!

Neon Quinn is an absolute badass, and she was easily my favorite part of the book. I also really enjoyed Sylas and seeing the softer side of his character come through. The pacing and romance weren't quite my favorite, but there were still plenty of things I enjoyed. I'd recommend this to readers looking for a low/no-spice read with a badass heroine and an intriguing story.

I really liked this story. The story, characters and world building were intriguing and it set up the rest of the series really well.
Neon wasn’t what I expected, but in a good way. I’m not sure what I expected her character to be like, really, but I am excited to see what happens to her next.

I received this as an ARC! I really wanted to love this book but I was unable to find a way to relate to the MMC. I think the world is wonderful, so I hope people give it an honest chance. After forcing myself to read it multiple times, I finally had to stop. I’m not sure if it’s because of the only POV being the MMC was worded differently than Im used to? Instead of “I” phrases, it was “Silas” as if it were third POV? Either way, I’m happy I got an opportunity to do an ARC.

I couldn’t quite tell whether this was cyberpunk or steampunk blended with an ancient Arabian inspired world, but either way, I really enjoyed the combination. The beginning and ending really sucked me in, and the overall plot was unique.
