Devil. Great deceiver. Evil one. Father of lies. Satan.
Many names. One enemy. And whether you realize it or not, you are on a spiritual battlefield with this enemy every day. How do you prepare to defend yourself?
In Conquer, Michael Youssef says you first need to know everything you can about your enemy. What are Satan's strengths? What are his weaknesses? How does he like to attack? When is he most likely to attack? Are there areas of your life where you are vulnerable and he seems to control the battlefield?
Only when you know your enemy inside and out can you plan and carry out a specific counterattack to defeat him. The final victory will be Christ's, of course. That's a promise from God. But as a Christian, you can actively take part in resisting the devil...and watching him flee.
Michael Youssef is the founder and president of Leading The Way with Dr. Michael Youssef, a worldwide ministry that leads the way for people living in spiritual darkness to discover the light of Christ through the creative use of media and on-the-ground ministry teams (www.LTW.org). His weekly television programs and daily radio programs are broadcast in 25 languages and seen worldwide, airing more than 13,000 times per week. He is also the founding pastor of The Church of The Apostles in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Youssef was born in Egypt, but in 1984, he fulfilled a childhood dream of becoming an American citizen. He holds numerous degrees, including a PhD in social anthropology from Emory University. He has authored more than 35 books, including recent popular titles The Barbarians Are Here and Jesus, Jihad and Peace. He and his wife have four grown children and eight grandchildren.
This book is all about dealing with the enemy. First, we have to know who the enemy is. Second, we have to know how the enemy operates. Third, we have to know how to defeat the enemy. Of course, the enemy is Satan. One of my favorite quotes is, "Be careful, then, what you allow your eyes to see and your heart to desire." Thumbs up!
I highly recommend this book! Previously published as “Know your Real Enemy”.
A quote from this book which is teaching about the lies of Satan struck me “the most dangerous lie is the lie that resembles the truth”.
A great excerpt is “[The enemy] sets up phony leaders, his false teachers. They talk about Christ, redemption, the cross, the resurrection - without believing in any of them. They do not submit to the gospel. They do not live under it’s authority.”
This is a straight forward, easy read that will enhance wherever you are in your walk with the Lord and if that walk has been straying, it will put you back on track!
