Someone is watching me. It starts with a break-in and a single black feather left behind as a warning. Then comes the feeling of being watched. The feathers. The threats. The obsession. Declan is the police officer assigned to protect me. Quiet. Broody. Possessive. The kind of man who makes me feel safe. But safety is a dangerous illusion. Because while one stalker lurks in the shadows, another is hiding in plain sight. And by the time I realize the monsters hunting me aren’t the only ones obsessed… it may already be too late. Our Little Ruin is a dark stalker romance featuring obsessive heroes, dangerous secrets, and a heroine caught between fear and desire.
Reese Wilder is an indie author of romantasy and dark romance, known for emotionally intense stories that blend fate, power, and morally complex characters. Her work explores the spaces where love collides with darkness, loyalty is tested, and survival demands transformation.
When she's not writing, Reese can usually be found building new worlds, connecting with readers online, reading a good book, or spending time with her five kids and husband.
I received an ARC of Our Little Ruin by the author.
This was my first book by Reese Wilder, and I definitely want to read more from her after this.
Our Little Ruin gave me the dark, obsessive, unhinged energy I wanted from the start. Declan had exactly the kind of stalker, possessive, morally questionable vibe that makes this kind of dark romance so addictive, and I really enjoyed his character.
The story was quick and fast-paced, with obsession, danger, messy attraction, secrets, and enough tension to keep me invested.
The only part that didn’t land as strongly for me was one emotional shift toward the end that I wanted a little more breathing room for, but it didn’t take away from my overall experience.
I liked how everything came together by the end. It felt like the right ending for the story without dragging anything out.
Overall, this was a dark and entertaining read that made me want to pick up more from Reese Wilder. I’d recommend it to readers who enjoy dark romance, stalker romance, obsessive MMCs, possessive men, messy relationship dynamics, and secrets.
"I received an ARC copy from the author in exchange for an honest review”
As an alpha reader, this book holds a very special place in my heart.
First, I have to say how incredibly grateful I am that Reese trusted me with this story from its earliest stages. Being invited into this world before anyone else and getting a front-row seat to its evolution has been such an honor. Reese truly has a gift for bringing characters to life. Her characters don’t simply exist on the page they feel real. They grow, they struggle, they love, and they stay with you long after you’ve finished reading.
Getting to experience Rowan, Declan, and this story from the very beginning and watching them evolve into what they became was something truly special. Seeing how the characters grew, how their relationships developed, and how every piece of the story was carefully shaped made this one unforgettable for me.
Rowan is everything I love in a dark romance FMC. She isn’t your typical heroine. She’s strong, passionate, resilient, and refuses to let her circumstances define her. She feels real, and I found myself rooting for her every step of the way.
And then there’s Declan.
Declan is the obsessive, unhinged, morally gray MMC that dark romance readers dream about. Protective, possessive, and completely consumed by Rowan, he walks the perfect line between terrifying and irresistible.
But what truly elevated this story for me was the mystery surrounding the Black Feather Stalker. Every feather left behind added another layer of tension, suspense, and intrigue that kept me desperate to know what would happen next.
Our Little Ruin is dark, emotional, obsessive, and addictive. Watching this story come to life from its earliest stages has been an incredible experience, and it has easily become one of my favorite books.
Thank you, Reese, for trusting me to be part of this journey. Getting to watch these characters take shape and witnessing the care, passion, and talent poured into every chapter has been something I will never forget. Rowan, Declan, and the Black Feather Stalker have claimed a permanent place in my heart, and this story will stay with me for a very long time.
I had the pleasure of being an ARC reader for this so thank you so much Reese Wilder for allowing me to read early. This is my first book I’ve read from Reese and it didn’t disappoint. I devoured this in one day. Not only do we have one obsessive masked man but we get two?? Omg count me in. I love me a masked man and a good why choose story so this was right up my ally. We also got a plot with some family drama to wrap in with some spice too. This was such a good read. I’m obsessed with Declan omg. Declan, Rowan and Colt ;) have my heart.
Our Little Ruin was absolutely delicious in every sense of the word. At this point, I learn something new about myself every time I pick up a dark romance novel. Whether I love that or hate that is still up for debate. What I do know is that this book was phenomenal. The story masterfully wove together romance, suspense, and thriller elements in a way that kept me completely invested from beginning to end. The plot had just enough twists and tension to keep me turning pages while still allowing the characters and their relationships to shine. Declan absolutely stole my heart. I adored him and loved the dynamic between him and Rowen. Their chemistry kept me hooked, and I found myself rooting for them every step of the way. While Colt wasn't my personal favorite and some aspects of his relationship felt a bit rushed to me, it wasn't enough to take away from how much I enjoyed the overall story. I finished this book in three days. As a notoriously slow reader, that's practically unheard of. Reese continues to prove why she's become an auto-buy, repeat author for me. Every book somehow manages to pull me in completely, and Our Little Ruin was no exception.
Our Little Ruin has everything you could possibly want!!! Not just one stalker, but two!! Rowan had a rough childhood that she wants to forget. She spends her days helping those in need and trying to help those who feel helpless. Soon she finds out that someone is watching her at all times. Someone has claimed her as theirs. With danger lurking, and her own secrets to protect, Rowan seeks help from the handsome Declan. But should she really trust him? With so many twists, turns, and hotness it had my attention gripped and my mind trying to guess all the answers! Right when I thought I had it figured out, a twist would happen that had me asking “who the heck is it?!” If you want a dark romance with why choose, stalker vibes, that’s also thrilling in the best possible way, this is the book for you!!
Tropes: Why choose Dark stalker romance Masked stalker Obsessive/possessive MMCs He falls first Touch her and die Morally grey FMC/MMC And more…
I really wasn’t sure initially about a “Why Choose” stalker romance. My brain was not comprehending how this would work. Stalker typically means obsession right? So a why choose?
BOY was I in for a ride! This was absolutely amazing. It was full of thrills, chuckles, and PLENTY of spice!
It gave me vibes of multiple books that I love: a bit of the banter and sass from Lights Out, the thrill and spice of The Psychotic Devotion trilogy, and the why choose spice and trust from the Devils Backbone series. If any or all of those are your vibe, PICK THIS UP ❤️🔥
Reese Wilder's best book yet. Our Little Ruin is gritty, haunting, and completely captivating. A total masterpiece I could not put down.
From the very first page, the tension is suffocating in the best way possible. It feels incredibly cinematic, like the shadows are closing in around you. Declan is the ultimate possessive, morally gray protector, and the boundary-blurring obsession in this story is absolutely top-tier.
If you're looking for a gritty stalker romance that will keep you reading long into the night, this is your next five-star read.
The FMC was so relatable I felt like she could have been me. She is a reclusive therapist with history of family abuse. She basically works, reads #darkromancebooks and is ready to defend herself with guns hidden everywhere in her house. Just don't let her cook for you😂
One of my favorite parts is when she tells the police to make sure they lock up her house after they investigate the break in because she has many special edition books she wants to protect. Girl after my own heart!
4.5 stars for me.... Definitely recommend A stalker romance that turnes into a why choose... Enough said.... But if you need more, here it is... The story is fast paced, easy to follow even with the twists and turns... Between the stalking and spice, there's also a plot, that brings it all together perfectly... Surprisingly my favorite is The Black feathered stalker (not gonna name him, so not to spoil).. He not only risked it all, he was willing to give Rowan up in order for her to be happy.... That's my kind if guy...

Our Little Ruin was my second Reese Wilder book, and once again, I absolutely devoured it.
I’ll be honest—stalker romance isn’t usually my favorite trope, but Reese Wilder writes it in such an entertaining way that I couldn’t stop reading. From the very beginning, I was completely hooked by the premise, and the twists and turns kept me glued to the pages.
Declan completely stole my heart. He is the definition of an unhinged, possessive, morally gray MMC, and I loved every second of him. He’s protective, obsessive, chaotic, and somehow still manages to be incredibly lovable. Then we the mysterious Black Feather Stalker. No spoilers from me, but just know there’s another layer of creepy, obsessive energy that keeps the suspense high throughout the entire book.
One of my favorite things about this story was Rowan. Too often in darker stalker romances, the FMC can feel passive or lacking depth, but Rowan was the complete opposite. She’s intelligent, capable, loves books, and consistently makes smart decisions. I appreciated that Reese gave us a heroine who could hold her own while still allowing herself to be vulnerable.
This book perfectly balances dark romance, suspense, obsession, and humor. The characters are morally questionable, the tension is intense, and the story keeps you guessing. If you enjoy stalker romances, morally gray men, protective obsession, psychological twists, and a touch of “what in the world is happening?” energy, you’ll probably have a great time with this one.
While the why choose trope still isn’t my personal favorite, the characters, suspense, and entertainment factor more than made up for it. Reese Wilder continues to impress me, and I’ll definitely be picking up more from her in the future.
“Our Little Ruin" is an absolutely addictive, five-star thrill ride that completely swept me away! From the very first page, I was hooked, desperate to uncover the secrets swirling around Rowan and the men who claim her. This book masterfully blends romance, suspense, and a deliciously dark edge, making it impossible to put down. Rowan is everything you could want in a dark romance heroine—strong, smart, and resilient, navigating a truly wild situation with an underlying dark side that makes her so compelling. I absolutely loved and adored her.
And then there's Declan. Oh, Declan. You fine fine specimen of a man 🤣. He's the ultimate unhinged, possessive, and protective morally gray hero you dream about, yet he still manages to be sweet and soft in his own twisted way. The dynamic between him and Rowan is electric, full of tension and undeniable chemistry that kept me rooting for them despite the danger. But what really sets this story apart is the multiple-stalker plot, especially the chilling mystery of the Black Feather Stalker. Every feather left behind ratchets up the tension, creating an atmosphere of thrilling uncertainty that had me constantly guessing. And let’s just say that this story proved once again that I am a why choose girly through and through 😏
This story is dark, emotional, and utterly obsessive, a true testament to the power of a well-crafted dark romance. It's a wild, fast-paced journey that will keep you on the edge of your seat, feeling every emotion from fear to exhilaration. If you're looking for a book that delivers an unhinged, possessive hero, a strong heroine, and a captivating mystery, and not 1 but 2 fine ass stalkers then "Our Little Ruin" is an absolute must-read that will stay with you long after the final page.
First of I would like to say thank you for this advanced arc copy to read and review.
Unfortunately for poor Rowan her life is turned upside down as her home doesn’t feel safe anymore like before, somebody breaks into her house and leaves a black feather behind, after she finds this she feels unsafe like she’s being watched and somebody is following her every move.
She then meets this guy called Declan who’s a police officer who helps her on this case but…….this officer is also watching her. He has 2 personalities the real him and the second has a fantasy side where he wears a mask. He’s very protective and obsessed as whoever gets close to his “little ruin”, he threatens them.
Roman loves to read books but with those particular books she reads she gets more than she bargained for as her fantasies go deeper than she ever imagined!, she does not know if she needs to be scared or have an obsession or whether to run from them or not…..her emotions is all over the place mentally and physically which includes her own sexual needs and preferences.
There’s so many twists and turns that I never expected this story to end in the way I thought it would happen. WOW, all I could say is Roman’s and their fantasies become more than they ever could have imagined.
This book is well written, had me hooked right from the start. If you like obsession, stalkers, sexy and spicy scenes, this will need to be on your reading pile.
Highly recommended and would love for a book two as it would be interesting to find out what happened to them down the line, whether things stayed the same or all their paths changed.
Our Little Ruin is the kind of dark romance that creeps under your skin and settles there.
From the very first black feather, the tension is relentless. The atmosphere is deliciously unsettling, wrapping every page in a sense of dread, obsession, and anticipation. I found myself constantly questioning who was watching Rowan, who could be trusted, and just how far these men would go to claim what they believed was theirs.
Rowan was an easy character to connect with. Her love of books and desire to disappear into fictional worlds made her feel real and relatable, which only made the danger surrounding her hit harder. Watching her navigate the line between fear and fascination kept me completely invested.
Declan was a walking red flag wrapped in a police uniform, and I loved every second of it. Possessive, obsessive, and morally gray in all the best ways, he completely stole the show. Then add the black-feathered stalker into the mix and the tension becomes absolutely addictive. The rivalry, jealousy, and obsession between them created a deliciously chaotic dynamic that had me turning pages way past bedtime.
The writing perfectly captures the dark, eerie vibe, while the romance is intense, twisted, and impossible to look away from. If you enjoy stalker romance, possessive antiheroes, love triangles drenched in obsession, and characters who blur every line between protector and predator, this book delivers.
A dark, addictive read filled with feathers, secrets, and men who are absolutely unhinged. I couldn’t put it down.
I'm going to be honest... I'm newer to Dark Romance reads and they are not usually my go to but I have been branching out and trying new things especially when I know it's from an Indie Author. Since this isn't my usual read I wasn't sure what to expect, if you are newer to this genre (like me) please first check your trigger warnings there are a lot of darker elements in this book.
This story had me hooked, I had to find out what would happen next and there were a lot of twists that kept me second guessing things that I thought might happen.
Some of the things that happened in this book were a bit on the too dark for me side but over all this was an enjoyable read I liked seeing how the lead characters developed a beautiful relationship (which was surprising to me considering how it all started) and I'm looking forward to reading more books from this author!
I think that if you enjoy dark romance with morally gray men, smart female leads, secrets revealed, twists and a lot of chaos you would enjoy picking up this one!
Thank you to the author for providing me with an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.
There are some books you enjoy while you’re reading them, and then there are books that completely consume your thoughts long after you’ve finished. Our Little Ruin falls into the second category for me.
I picked this book up expecting a dark romance, but I wasn’t prepared for how quickly it would pull me in. Between the suspense, the mystery, and the constant tension, I found myself reaching for this book every chance I got. I ended up finishing it in just three days because I needed answers and couldn’t stop turning the pages.
The atmosphere was one of my favorite parts of the story. There was this underlying sense of unease throughout the entire book that kept me hooked and made it impossible to predict what would happen next. I loved trying to piece everything together while getting lost in the characters and their complicated dynamics.
What really stood out to me was how addictive the story felt. Every chapter left me wanting more, and even after finishing the book, I found myself replaying certain moments and thinking about the characters days later.
If you’re a fan of dark romance, suspense, morally gray characters, obsession, and stories that keep you guessing, I highly recommend adding Our Little Ruin to your TBR.
This was an incredibly engaging read, and I can’t wait to see what Reese Wilder writes next.
If you’re looking for a dark, addictive read that will keep you glued to the pages, Our Little Ruin by Reese Wilder absolutely delivers.
From the very beginning, I was completely hooked. The obsession between the two men had me captivated, and the why choose romance was executed so well. Every chapter revealed another piece of the mystery, making it nearly impossible to put the book down. Just when I thought I had everything figured out, another twist would pull me right back in.
One of my favorite parts was getting to uncover each character’s backstory. Reese Wilder does an incredible job of making every character feel layered and complex, which made me even more invested in their journey. The violence and darker elements weren’t there just for shock value—they added depth to the story and fit perfectly within the overall plot.
And let’s talk about the spice… it was absolutely top-tier. It was intense, well-written, and perfectly balanced with the emotional and suspenseful moments of the story. It never overshadowed the plot—it enhanced it.
Overall, Our Little Ruin was an unforgettable read that had me constantly saying, “Just one more chapter.” If you love dark romance, obsessive heroes, a gripping mystery, why choose romance, and spice that absolutely delivers, this book deserves a spot on your TBR. Reese Wilder knocked this one out of the park, and I can’t wait to see what she writes next!
First thank you so much to the author for letting me read an early copy of this book.
This book was such a wild ride. Between the suspense, the obsession, and the constant feeling that something was about to go horribly wrong, I was hooked from start to finish. I stayed up late last night because I just couldn't put it down.
Declan completely stole the show for me. He is the perfect morally grey MMC. He's possessive, protective, obsessed, and just unhinged enough to make him impossible to resist. The man is covered in red flags, and I loved him for it. Underneath all the chaos, though, his devotion to Rowan never wavered, and that made me fall for him even harder.
I also loved that this was a why choose romance because sometimes one book boyfriend just isn't enough. The chemistry, tension, and dynamic between the characters kept me fully invested. Not to mention the spice because Wow.
What really surprised me, though, was the second stalker storyline (The Black Feather Stalker - no spoilers). I thought I had everything figured out, only for the book to completely pull the rug out from under me. That twist caught me off guard and added an extra layer of suspense that made the story even more addictive.
If you love obsessive heroes, stalker romances, mystery, spice, and plenty of dark, chaotic energy, this one delivers all of that and more.
This one was such a fun, quick, wild ride! I was hooked into this one from the very beginning constantly wanting to know what was going to happen next.
Stalker romances seem to be growing on me and this one worked so well! We didn't just have one stalker either...the black feather stalker storyline was very interesting!
I absolutely loved Declan, both sides. He is unhinged, possessive, protective, morally grey, yet also sweet and soft at the same time. No matter what, he was going to make sure that Rowan was safe and would be his. Rowan is smart, strong, and doesn't seem to let much rattle her, which says a lot with the situation that she is currently in. Maybe it is her love for dark romance and her underlying dark side?
I can't give away anymore without giving spoilers, but let's just say that we have romance, spice, tension, suspense, mystery, chaos, banter, some humor, stalkers, and all of it wrapped up together made for the perfect read! There were a couple of things that I just definitely wasn't expecting but worked perfectly! Huge thank you to Reese for the early copy to read!
I genuinely did not know what to expect going into this book… but wow.
Rowan’s story honestly broke my heart. The level of fear and trauma she carried throughout this story, and watching her finally take her power back, was probably my favorite part.
Declan and Colt, both of them… morally gray. These men were obsessive, possessive, controlling.. absolutely unhinged.
Declan gave me the protective energy that kept me fully invested every single time.
Colt surprised me more than I expected. I really liked seeing his shift from distrust into loyalty and something much deeper.
The lines between love and protection are ever so blurred. It's what kept me invested.
And the spice… lord, someone call the fire department because the spice level was OFF the charts hot. 🌶️🔥
That ending though… while some things are finally brought to light, there’s still so much left hanging. I’m excited to see what Ms. Wilder has in store for us in the next book.
This is a MUST read for Dark romance girlies like myself.. But please check trigger warnings.
I received this arc from the author in exchange for my honest review
can absolutely understand why readers have this author on auto click buy, she weaves a story so well, this black feather left behind became the main thing I needed disclosure on too, it definitely kept me reading and turning the pages. This was creepy, have you ever had the feeling someone is watching you? If you have you will know how creepy it feels and how you ask your mind if you are paranoid.
Declan, yep I guessed this policeman who was meant to look after her and her safety had some underlying element.
I do enjoy a dark stalker romance …what that says about me, I will let you to keep to yourself!
The writing was superbly done the characters well rounded however easily guessed instead of hidden in plain sight.
I enjoyed my time with this story and would 100% read from her again.
I had the pleasure of reading this as an Advanced copy which in no way influences my review.
Do you like dark romance?
Do you like books with stalking ?
Then this meets two of your preferences. Read less
I just finished Our Little Ruin, and I absolutely loved it.
Rowan’s difficult childhood immediately pulled me in. As someone who loves dark romance and connected with parts of her journey, I found her to be a very relatable main character.
Without giving away any spoilers, Rowan isn’t dealing with just one stalker—she has two. One of them is Declan, a police officer who is also investigating the mystery of someone breaking into her home and leaving black feathers behind. That suspense had me hooked from beginning to end.
This book had everything I personally crave in a dark romance: suspense, mystery, emotional depth, tension, and characters that kept me turning the pages to find out what happened next.
This is my third book by Reese, and I’m genuinely excited to watch her continue to grow as an author. If her future books are anything like this one, I’ll definitely be reading every new release.
I will definitely say, I needed to know more the second I got into this book! I needed to know more, and the whys and who?! If you like dark romance suspense mixed with stalker vibes, this is definitely your book to gravitate to!! But wait… it’s not just ONE STALKER… it’s TWO, yeah you heard me TWO! MFC is Rowan, she starts getting the feeling she’s being watched, her life starts to unravel when a stalker starts invading her personal space in unsettling ways. She constantly feels like she’s being watched and starts getting the feeling someone knows more about her life than she realizes. Rowan is a girl who is wanted, lusted over, and craved! Will she want that? Will she admire it? Will she be afraid? Will she crave more? Assigned to protect her is detective Declan, who is far more invested. Rowan needs to figure out who she can trust while confronting fears, and guarding her own secrets. Definitely get this book now to find out more on what happens!! 😉
This book had me HOOKED from the start, started off intense, and that didn't stop. Loved the language of the characters, as they way they spoke felt very natural and similar to myself. The MMC Declan is so funny, rough but extremely lovable, and the FMC Rowan is just a girl who loves her dark romance novels looking for her prince to become her masked man. Little does she know.... The second MMC Colt, is everything you'd want in a man! The pace of this book is written so well, some scenes slowed down and others slightly faster making you itch to keep turning that page to get to find out what happens! Cannot wait for this to be released on the 24th June 2026 so everyone can experience the wonderful things this book has to offer!!
Our fmc Rowan is a therapist who had a terrible childhood. Makes a lot of sense she would want to help people when she got older. I found her character very relatable.
Rowan meets Declan who is a cop. He is the grumpy to her sunshine. He is the dark to her equally dark? Yes you read that right.
Rowan and Declan meet Colt who is a paramedic. He’s the light to both their dark and the golden retriever we didn’t even know we needed or wanted.
This is for sure a ride you definitely want to buckle up and hold on for! Check the triggers but this one ticks a lot of my boxes that make me feral for a book.
5 ⭐️ 2 🌶️ (please know I read a lot of romance and for some this may be 3 or even 4 🌶️)
Arc read: I have typed and retyped this review but how do you put into words how much you love a book?! Our Little Ruin hit all the right tropes plus has amazing characters. Declan’s personality (well both personalities) was my favorite! I tried to slow my reading to enjoy the book longer but that was impossible. Page after page I was pulled in. I love a good mystery where you get feed small details here and there and you try to guess who, what, why. I enjoyed all those well done details in the plot. If you love a good stalker romance with some SERIOUSLY morally grey men this is definitely for you! As Declan might say… Be a good girl and read this book.
Our Little Ruin is a warped in the best way. Its got darkness, its got humor and oh yes its got some spice. I knew this would have some weirdness to it and it did but not at all in a bad way it reminded me of another book I read by the twisted sisters. The FMC is sweet and caring, and maybe just the tiniest bit disturbed. Our MMC is quite something, his dark side speaks to the part that loves a good dark romance and his light side is 100% golden retriever. The book has some unexpected turns and some fun with the tropes being used in ways you aren't used to. Overall a very good dark, spicy and unusual romance.
This story had the perfect balance of romance, mystery, who is the stalker, why choose, spice, suspense and tension.
It was a fun, fast paced read. Rowan had endured brutality at the hands of her father but it didn't break her or her spirit. Declan is a morally gray, obsessive, protective character. He fights for Rowan like no tomorrow. The spice in the story was spicing, very well written.
If you like your stories with a dark atmosphere/vibes, why choose romance, check this one out!
Trying to just live a calm life, Rowan finds herself being stalked by not one, but two people. One seems set on following her to protect her but also because he wants to be the only one to bring her pain. The other terrifies her as he leaves her black feathers.
The way that I devoured this book was unhinged. I couldn't get enough... each page, each chapter only drawing me further and further into the madness. I LOVED the intrigue and suspense mixed with deliciously spicy scenes.
Thank you, Reese for allowing me to ARC read this book. It was amazing.
I was lucky enough to read this arc from the author herself. I am a huge fan of her writing and this story is no different. It gave me all the possessive and unhinged vibes I love so much plus the golden retriever love interest I also love. Let’s not forget Reese’s banter that is a so brilliant at writing!! The only thing that left me sad was that I am already missing these men lol This was a 1000 out of 5 stars for me and omg; the spice??? 10,000 🌶️’s. This is a must read!!
She never disappoints! I have NO idea how Reese can get me reeled in with a completely unhinged male character, but she totally did here. Declan is beyond obsessed and I love it! Then she throws a second option at me with Colt, serious golden retriever energy, and I'm even more drawn in!! Top it off with a scene thats shows how unhinged the FMC is and somehow... it all just fits! Loved it from the start! Lots of fun spice
