Courageous Parenting: Biblical Parenting in Unprecedented Times

Rate this book
There’s a battle for your children's hearts. If you don’t win it in this season, you’ll likely lose their heart in the next.Imagine a family that stands rooted in God, intentional in love, and building a faith-filled legacy that feels almost radical in contrast to today’s Christian norm. Isaac and Angie launched the Courageous Parenting podcast to lift intentional parents and arm families with practical, biblical truth for the hard realities of modern life — and the book followed, expanding those conversations into a clear, actionable guide to Christian parenting in a world that no longer shares your values.

The world is changing fast. The Bible’s truth is steady—but applying it to unprecedented challenges takes wisdom. This book provides that clear, actionable guidance for the cultural shifts undermining traditional parenting rhythms and the persuasive, wayward philosophies pulling families off course.

Each chapter tackles real issues with practical steps you can use now, plus marriage discussion questions and challenges designed to unite spouses and cultivate alignment. Whether you have toddlers, tweens, or teens, these principles, when practiced, will reverberate through your family for generations.

No matter where you are in your parenting journey, it’s not too late to choose change. This scripture-rich guide is a wise investment in your family’s future—one that equips you to protect and pass on what matters most.

I found the Courageous Parenting podcast about four years ago after a dear friend shared it with me, and it has been such an encouragement to my husband and I ever since. When I heard that Isaac and Angie were releasing a book, I knew it was something I needed to add to my collection.

I’m only a few chapters into Courageous Parenting, but I already cannot wait to continue reading through it with my husband. Isaac and Angie remind us that parenting according to our convictions is a wonderful thing. They encourage parents to stand firm in what God’s Word says, even when it feels countercultural.

This book is thought-provoking, honest, and incredibly timely, but what I appreciate most is that it is rooted in Scripture. This is not simply their opinion—it is a call to look at Biblical truth and consider how we apply it to parenting in the world we live in today. There is no sugarcoating, only truth, and I am so grateful for that.

I especially appreciate the parenting questions at the end of the chapters that encourage you to stop and evaluate your own heart and approach as a parent. They challenge you to reflect, grow, and continually seek the Lord’s wisdom.

I am so thankful for Isaac and Angie’s obedience to the Lord in sharing their wisdom and pointing families back to Him. I cannot wait to keep reading!

I was introduced to Courageous Parenting podcast by another woman in a Christian moms group, and I have followed them ever since. Isaac and Angie Tolpin are convicted in their beliefs and bring scripture to accompany them in defending the choices they make and recommend. I admire them as a beacon of light in an increasingly dark world brimming with confusion and chaos. As parents, our job is to guard the hearts, minds, eyes, ears, mouths, and souls of our children. I am so thankful Isaac and Angie created this resource for parents to help guide us through all steps of parenthood for such a time as this.

Courageous Parenting Review
Short version: Authors are Christ-followers. Biblically based. More of a handbook than a one-time read.
Challenging the "status-quo Christian parenting" and calling us to courageously and intentionally parent in these unprecedented days that we have been called to live in. A call to action with support and exhortation along the way.
Long version:
From the start, Isaac and Angie tell you the intentions of their book: "We are Bible-believing Christ-followers and wrote this book for like-minded intentional parents to encourage a Biblical approach to parenting in these unprecedented times. Our hope and prayers are that as you go through these books, you would grow in the Lord and be encouraged to proactively parent Biblically. We desire that you experience unity in your marriage and be strengthened as a team in your parenting journey!". On top of that, they make sure to note that this book can be great encouragement for single parents too.
There are lots of parenting books out there... but how many of them are written in a way to not only encourage and instruct, but also help you converse with your spouse and apply the principles to your life/parenting? In their first "how it works" chapter, they explain that in each chapter of this book there is a topic/parenting decision/biblical teaching explored with scripture for deep study, questions to reflect on one's own parenting, a prayer, and a challenge to help implement what you have learned. On top of that, in each of the four sections, there are date night exercises to stir up conversation, and encouragement, and to bring couples onto the same page. They even have links to their specific podcasts that go along with the different topics that could be helpful. This is meant to be more of a handbook rather than a one-time read.
I love the Tolpin's unapologetic call to seek the Lord and His Word. They realize that we are raising and launching our kids into a world that is much different than the one we grew up in. They know that we cannot rely solely on churches and youth leaders to reach and keep our kids, but that we must INTENTIONALLY parent through the wisdom that God gives through His Word and by His Spirit. There is a battle for our children's hearts. They give hope - that it's not too late to start if we haven't been intentionally parenting our children in a biblical manner. They lay out the ground work for getting started. They don't sugar coat it. They don't say to do it all. Repent. Start small. Stay consistent.
I'm sure I will be challenged as I continue to read the rest of it!
I will leave you with a quote I enjoyed: "Don't let yourself be pacified by your environment, meaning, don't let your standards be lowered, don't go along to get along when the spirit is prompting you to do something different. Don't operate in fear of others..." but parent courageously and trust God!!

I finally found a parenting manual! This book calls parents to raise children with purpose while keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus. Isaac & Angie emphasize understanding what we believe and why we believe it, and then actually genuinely living it out in our day-to-day lives and in our home.

Prayer is one of the most impactful themes in this book. The number one way to radically transform a family for Christ is regular, consistent, relational prayer. Prayer is depending on Christ Jesus to take control over things that we cannot control.

Character is another major aspect, and is so much more than just managing your children's behavior. Practical, convicting, and rooted in scripture, the ideas and encouragement from this book are quite heartening.

Even though this is a parenting book, anyone who influences children can use it. (Married parents, single parents, grandparents, foster parent, mentors, children's ministry leaders, etc.) Parents with grown children can benefit! Discussion questions, parenting challenges, podcast recommendations, and prayers accompany every chapter to support further study and discussion.

The witty stories and encouragement made me laugh sometimes, and reflect on my own parenting. It carries conviction in the best possible way as well. But most importantly, it points families back to Jesus, and reminds us that we aren't here to raise perfect children, we are chasing after our children's hearts, and fostering their relationship with Christ so they can come to know, love, and serve Him.

What an encouragement to realize that many others are still willing to raise children God's way! This is the mission Isaac and Angie set out to accomplish in writing this book. I had the privilege of previewing parts of the book before it was made available to the public, and I cannot wait to receive my copy. I have been listening to the Courageous Parenting podcasts, and it is life-changing! I know this book will do the same. I highly recommend this book to any parent seeking guidance rooted in Biblical principles. Parenting today is challenging, especially when it's difficult to find others who share your values and principles. This book offers practical encouragement by consistently directing readers back to the Bible. Isaac and Angie equip parents to stand strong and confidently resist unhelpful trends in modern parenting. The included discussion questions make this book ideal for group study and community-building among like-minded parents. References to related podcast episodes also provide helpful opportunities for further learning.

We had the blessing of being introduced to the Tolpins at a recent conference where they were speaking. As we listened, the real and transparent manner in which they talked about their relationship with Jesus and how He guides their marriage and family caused the spirit within us to leap. We attended every session we were able to catch at the conference and knew we must have this new book. It is written just as they speak - honest and lovingly blunt. They have such great insight from their journey with Christ and a powerful gift of making it relatable to others. We are thankful for being able to "take them home" through this book and are excited to delve into more of it through our study through it together as a couple. We have no doubt that the influence on us already through the Tolpin's teaching and now the reading of the book will be something that God uses to make our famliy even stronger. This is one of those books that is a "must have" for any parent wanting to leave a legacy of Jesus in thier children's lives. We are so thankful to have found it!

It packs a punch, and the good kind! My husband and I wanted to enjoy healthy relationship with our kids and for them to have that with God, for their whole lives! This book is spot on in growing those very things getting to the heart of our kids so we can cultivate faith in them that lasts. It goes for the jugular dismantling how the enemy is using new tech and current culture trends to attack our homes- and then offers powerful biblical truth to counter and even cut off those threats! I'm super grateful for the realistic and applicable advice provided! It's not ovewhelming but it is "meaty" and provides specific intentional actionable steps that impact same day and long-term. The end-of-chapter parenting challenges help facilitate real conversations between my husband and me. The authors were so intentional with this and it shows. If you are serious and hopeful about planting deep roots of lasting faith and steadfast fruit in your kids' lives to impact generations, you will love this. It's so good!

Are you looking for a book that will encourage, convict, and motivate you to biblically parent your children? Then, I highly recommend reading Courageous Parenting by Isaac and Angie Tolpin. The book is organized in 31 easy to reach chapters broken down in 4 sections: Ready to Stand Firm in the Faith, Instilling a Differentiating Character, The Skills for Thriving, and Spiritual Maturity and Battle Ready. At the end of each chapter there are questions to ask your children, a challenge for parents, and titles of Courageous Parenting podcasts you can listen to for more information. My favorite part of the book is the Marriage Challenge included after each of the four sections. These are designed to lead to in depth date night discussions and vision casting to “encourage couples in communicating and parenting in alignment as a team.” My husband and I are looking forward to using these during our date nights this summer!

This is an easy and engaging read but packs a huge punch of encouragement, rooted in applied biblical truth, great reflection and questions to bring about meaningful application. 31 relevant chapters allowing for intentional application and you will be changed, regardless of where you're starting. Issac and Angie write with wisdom, clarity and grace offering truth that uplifts. It’s a call to be resilient against the forces of deception and be courageous men/women who lead. This book is a great read, a manual and a guide for every parent. Each chapter encompasses: practical questions, a targeted parenting challenge, reinforcing podcasts (for auditory learners), and a guided prayer. Don’t skip these -- this is where lasting change begins. I’ve never read anything quite like it. It’s an investment in yourself, your marriage, your family and the legacy you're building for future generations.

Although I’ve only recently started reading it, it has not disappointed. From the very beginning, the book challenged and inspired me to become a more intentional parent. It includes thoughtful questions that encourage self-reflection and help parents evaluate how they are discipling their children.

What I appreciate most is that the book is firmly rooted in Scripture. The Tolpins repeatedly point readers back to God’s Word and emphasize the importance of discipling our children now. They also challenge parents to think deeply about the legacy they are leaving behind. One quote that particularly stood out to me was, “The legacy is to know Him and make Him known.”

If you’re looking for a biblically centered parenting book that will encourage, challenge, and equip you to lead your family with greater purpose, Courageous Parenting is well worth reading.

Courageous Parenting is an absolute must have for these times. I have been following Isaac and Angie since 2019 and have been tremendously blessed by everything they share. As a new mom back then I knew God was calling me to raise not only Godly children but also to have an approach that was based on the bible. When I found Courageous Parenting it changed the way I thought about parenting. It has 100% shaped the way my husband and I raise our kids. All I can say is that this book is FULL of Godly wisdom to raise warriors for the Lord. All the things Isaac and Angie share is exactly what our kids need in these crazy times we are in. Get your copy! It is the BEST $20 you will spend, hands down.

This book is a wonderful read. Very inspiring as a parent! It will help you consider how to parent in unprecedented times. I love how they address issues that not a lot of people are talking about with things like AI. And they do it all with a biblical worldview, which is so important to me. I am so grateful to have this amazing resource. I think it is important to note that they have other resources as well that can help you with parenting, like their parenting mentorship program that my husband and I went through, which literally transformed our parenting. We are so grateful to Isaac and Angie; they truly care about the future and building Christendom.

I am loving this book! It is a roadmap with clear markers for how to help you raise God fearing children. Not in a fire and brimstone way, but in a “drip, drip, drip” kind of way. I can almost hear Issac & Angie cheering me on as I read through the parts that sting because they are true in my own parenting journey. They are quick to say “if this is true for you don’t be discouraged..” and then they offer a nugget of wisdom to help you. I will certainly be nominating this book to read in our book club.

I love the experience Isaac and Angie share, and that they aren’t afraid to step on your toes a bit to say what needs to be said. I can’t wait to share it with my husband, my siblings, and my mom friends!

This is a phenomenal book and so needed for parents and grandparents in today’s uncertain world. Isaac and Angie teach biblical truths through actionable steps. They were personal mentors of mine as a young adult, and I have seen the fruit on their tree for years. I love listening to their podcast and I’m so grateful that they now have a book to put their teaching into writing. I also love how each topic links back to some of their podcast episodes and that there are opportunities for spouses to work on things together after each topic. Highly recommend!!

The Courageous Parenting book is amazing and a must-read for every parent. Parenting can be tough, but this book shows that when you parent biblically, the results differ from the world's methods. I've been parenting for a long time, and this book is challenging me to work on some areas. I am trusting God that as I read this book, I will become a better mom and grandma by applying what the Tolpins have taught. This book is full of scripture, challenges, questions, applications, podcast suggestions, and prayers. It's one to read, reread, and share with others.

This book is amazingly good and helps to remind you that every kid is different, and God has made them different in a good way. So keep trying different Godly principles with them and not to give up. Which has helped me because I was about to pull my hair out with a kid and was wondering what I was doing wrong in my parenting.

It's never enough to just listen/read it, but we have to do it. This book will challenge you as parents to think past the status quo and be intentional.
