Was this a quick and easy read? Yes.
Will I potentially read more in this series? I think I might.
Did I love it? Unfortunately, no. While I didn't hate it, there were simply too many parts of the book that I didn't care for. It started out strong and then ended really poorly in my opinion. And I hate saying that. Authors put so much into their work and it takes a lot to put words to paper, but by the time I got to the end, I almost didn't care anymore.
I will say, that I was at first hesitant about picking the book up due to it being advertised as a "clean romantic suspense." I'm not always a huge fan of books that are labeled that way only because a lot of authors use allusion in an effort to keep from being too explicit. That doesn't always work for me personally, because I have the tendency to miss the allusions when reading and then I end up confused and missing details. This book though, did a good job of keeping it clean but also adding enough detail that I didn't feel like I was having to solve a puzzle to figure it out. I really appreciated that.
While I did enjoy it overall and I believe others will, I'm gonna get a little nitpicky here. And it's not my intention to destroy the book, it's just what I struggled with the most.
-I didn't like Hannah as the book went on. I felt her character was too contradictory. I completely understood her lack of trust in herself and others, yet despite her past she was still too naive and trusting. And it's even mentioned in the book that she's too trusting. But this contradicted what we are told over and over, and that is that Hannah doesn't trust others and that Luke helped her learn to trust again. It didn't make sense to me. Do you trust others or do you not? And jumping into bed with Luke within two weeks of meeting is not an example of him breaking down your walls and learning how to trust again. They barely knew each other. It just didn't seem to make sense for Hannah's character. If she really struggled I'd think she'd have taken longer to feel comfortable around Luke. Unfortunately, the rush into a physical relationship made her come off as more desperate than trusting. And I didn't like that, and I know that's not what the author intended.
Hannah also insisted on putting herself in harms way and instead of letting Luke do his job she had to go with him. That's not helping the situation when he now has to worry about you too while trying to sus out the situation.
And I hate to say it, but the ending...
-Luke didn't really seem like he knew how to do his job. He barely canvassed the health center when And when he checked Hannah's house he only checked the interior and not the exterior of her home.
-I was able to figure out the identity of the stalker fairly easily, and unfortunately if Luke, the security team and the police knew how to do their jobs they'd have picked up on it too. What I don't like about obvious mistakes is that it makes your characters look incompetent.
But, enough nitpicking. If you overlook the flaws, it's a quick and easy read and something to help pass the time. I am interested in giving this author another shot, whether it's with this series or another one.
