One night. No names. One very awkward board meeting later…
Maddie Rutherford knows exactly who Caesar Ashford is the moment she meets him at a masked ball.
Billionaire heir. Professional rival. The cold, cynical face of the family company her grandfather is desperate to partner with.
Which means flirting with him is a terrible idea.
Having one reckless, unforgettable night? Absolute disaster.
Maddie panics and disappears before Caesar learns her identity, convincing herself it was just one impulsive mistake she can leave behind.
Except weeks later, she’s sent to negotiate a high-stakes partnership with Ashford AgriTech… and comes face to face with Caesar in a boardroom.
The worst part? She’s eight weeks pregnant… with Caesar’s baby.
Caesar is stunned that the mysterious woman he couldn’t forget is Maddie Rutherford, granddaughter of the man he trusts least in the world.
Although he’s determined to keep his distance, being stranded with Maddie on a remote countryside farm makes forgetting her impossible.
Now Maddie must decide whether to tell Caesar the truth about the baby… before he discovers it himself and assumes that everything between them was part of her grandfather’s plan.
But the deeper Maddie falls for him, the more terrified she becomes that Caesar will never trust that she chose him for herself, not for her family.
USA Today bestselling author Serenity Woods writes emotionally warm billionaire romance with luxury, escapism, and breathtaking New Zealand settings. Her books combine warmth, wit, and wanderlust with unforgettable happily-ever-afters.
Maddie R is an accident waiting to happen. She is more comfortable on her farm in t-shirts, jeans and boots. Caesar A is the eldest of 3 who work for their Ashford company. Maddie trips going into a holiday party thrown by the Ashford family. Caesar is there to catch her. This party is a masquerade ball so each has a mask hiding their faces. Caesar wishes that woman were interested in him and not his family money. Caesar and the mysterious lady go get a drink. And even though Maddie knows who Caesar is she does not admit to it. Nor does she give him her name. He names her Cupcake since she ate one and had frosting on her lip.
They end up hooking up but Cupcake walks away after and Caesar already misses her. After the party he reviews all the names on the invitee list to see if he can find her name but is unable to. As time passes he cant seem to forget her.
Meanwhile Maddie goes back to her work as a soil scientist and finds out that she is pregnant, even though they used a condom. She is in a quandary as to if she should tell Caesar.
Maddie's grandfather has been trying to buy the Ashford group but they have said no. So Rutherford proposes a partnership. And request both his granddaughters to attend the meeting. Maddie will provide answers to any science questions needed. Maddie knows that once she goes to this meeting that Caesar will know who she is and hate her.
The Ashford meeting begins and Brielle is there but Maddie is in the bathroom throwing up. When she walks in Caesar identifies her by the small mole on her lip. He is pissed not only at her but at her grandfather for his manipulation. In the end Caesar goes on a fact finding trip with Maddie to her test farm.
Needless to say they are thrown together in a small cottage with one bed and a couch. Maddie takes Caesar on a walkabout on the farm and talks about her project for soil restoration which interest Caesar more than the AI project pitched back home.
One thing leads to another and the 2 of them are in each others arms for the time they are they. Once back home Caesar find out from his sister that Maddie is pregnant from someone in the Rutherford camp. He is livid and goes to confront her. She finally admits that she is pregnant but the baby is Caesar's and not her former boyfriend.
Needless to say there is an HEA. Maddie is insecure due to her albinism yet it does not bother Caesar. He over thinks things due to his past history.
I loved this gorgeous new romance from Serenity Woods. Like most of her books it is set in New Zealand, which happens to be my adopted second home, & is always a good reason for me to read her books! I love her descriptions of places, which conjure up images of the settings. The Mysterious Billionaire is set in Auckland & high in the hills above Queenstown on South Island, (a new place to me), where the scenery is beautiful in the sunshine but bleak in the middle of a thunderstorm without somewhere warm & cosy to shelter.
Main characters Maddie & Caesar may have more in common than they realise at first. Both are from wealthy families. Caesar is one of the hottest (& richest) single men in Auckland; he works in the family business, Ashford AgriTech which was started by his father. Maddie is part of the Rutherfords - a rival family business in a similar field, started by & still controlled by her grandfather. Rutherford have just put in a hostile bid for Ashford AgriTech, & Maddie is about to find out just how manipulative her grandfather can be. She meets Caesar at a masked ball organised by Ashford AgriTech, & they share a steamy evening together. Behind the masks both are fairly confident of anonymity, Caesar enjoying the novelty of not being pursued for his money & status, whilst Maddie takes on a new & more outgoing personality than her usual quiet & timid self.
Maddie’s a lovely character, & I really liked that she was able to laugh at herself & her clumsiness! I really warmed to her & could identify with her diffidence & lack of self confidence. I felt her natural warmth & humour shine through as she responded to Caesar’s caring nature & I loved that Caesar eventually recognised & encouraged her full potential as a human being & in the business. They both have a lot to learn about trust. Maddie is quite naive, not realising the extent of her grandfather’s control over the business & family; & with her distinctive violet eyes, I’m not sure how she thought Caesar wouldn’t recognise her across the boardroom! It’s a lovely heartwarming & hopeful story, & I’m already looking forward to the next in this lovely series.
Thanks to the author for the opportunity to read an arc of this book, which I have reviewed voluntarily.
Firstly: I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. Just so we're clear LOL
I always enjoy a new Serenity Woods book, no matter what the story actually turns out to be, because - and this is a big because - the author writes BEAUTIFULLY.
At this point I'm convinced she could write the next phonebook and I'd read it LOL
On to the actual story!
I'm enjoying seeing these farmers-turned-billionaires running around New Zealand, I really am. Caesar is the kind of MMC I can absolutely get behind, and I actually feel he didn't chew Tom Rutherford out ENOUGH. Sometimes you can take the high road, and other times you can just smack someone, it's more vindicating, especially in a book haha. Not that I imagined him actually hitting Tom, mind, but you get the drift.
Maddie, for some reason, just keeps lying a whole lot, all through the book, and it brings her nothing but trouble. You'd think someone moving towards 30 and out of their 20s, would figure out the first few times they need to change course, but she just ... doesn't!
Also, I really, really wanted a confrontation scene between her and her grandpa Tom. I feel like that would have elevated this book to a 5 stars for me, rather than keeping it at 4 stars. I mean, she literally learns the man USES her, for most of this book, and it never goes anywhere.
That's actually something I've noticed in the past few books Ms Woods released, actually, and I'm not saying it's a bad thing, only something I noticed: confrontations that don't happen. In Spencer and Marama's book, we don't get to see Marama confront her family over how they treat Spencer, for example, as one thing I can think of. Like Maddie confronting Tom, too.
It's not that it's missing, exactly, it's just that an inclusion of it would clear a whole lot more, I think, as well as give additional insight into one of the main characters.
Overall, however, I enjoyed the fact Caesar couldn't stay away, but remained true to his personality in that he needed a little time to trust from how it was broke before. I loved how Maddie was such a nerd, and cutely clumsy. I think they work very well as a couple together, and hopefully he can help her with her mindset about her condition, as well!
I enjoyed this book overall, though I'm starting to feel a little burned out on the billionaire romance genre. I find myself being more interested in stories about ordinary people who are building a business, chasing their dreams, and trying to make their way in the world without unlimited wealth. I don't even mind characters having some money or not struggling, but the never having to worry about having enough resources is kind of stale.
Maddie was easy to like. Her enthusiasm, intelligence, quirkiness, nerdiness, and occasional clumsiness made her an endearing and relatable character. I liked Caesar as well, despite his strong dislike of her grandfather. It wasn't the dislike itself that bothered me so much as how completely it consumed his views of almost everything. He seemed to have tunnel vision whenever Tom was involved. That said, I loved how supportive he was of Maddie and her vision.
I especially enjoyed Caesar and Maddie together. Their banter was fun, they genuinely seemed to enjoy each other's company, and I loved that they shared a passion for the same project. Their relationship felt natural and engaging.
I also felt for Maddie and her insecurities about her appearance. While it was frustrating to see her doubt herself, it was understandable given how often she seemed to be dismissed or overlooked by her family.
One thing I wish the book had included was a confrontation between Maddie and her grandfather. I wanted to see her call him out for constantly using her and for dismissing her skills, intelligence, and scientific accomplishments. I also wish her father had stood up for her more. If he had her back in the last meeting, it wasn't very obvious. I wanted someone in the family to challenge her grandfather's behavior. An epilogue also would have been nice as the ending felt a bit abrupt.
Overall, this was an entertaining read that I finished in a single sitting. It struck a nice balance between romance, heat, attraction, and emotion. I'm definitely looking forward to Luke and Aurelia's book.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
The Mysterious Billionaire by Serenity Woods The Ashford Legacy book 2
~ Mystery surrounds Caesar and Madie during their masquerade encounter that sizzled for a no-names-shared sizzling steamy hookup ~ Great addition to the series ~
What I liked: * Madeleine “Maddie” Rutherford: scientist, inventor, PhD graduate, works for her grandfather’s conglomerate, dislikes her albino coloring, reserved, unlucky in love, dreams of feeding the world, attracted to Caesar * Caesar Ashford: scientist, works in the family agricultural business, wealthy, has trust issues, swept away by the masked woman at the masquerade and fell hard, dislikes and distrusts Tom Rutherford/Maddie’s grandfather, wants to maintain control of the family business * Maddie’s ability to communicate her needs and desires to Caesar while masked and later when with him on their field trip to the farm * Watching the relationship develop between Maddie and Caesar * Watching Caesar work through his trust issues and how it worked out positively to further the romance between him and Maddie * Brielle Rutherford: Maddie’s older extroverted sister, influencer, represents the company, wonder if she will get a book of her own * Aurelia Ashford: sister of Caesar and Marcus, works in the family business, social media savvy, will be starring in the next book of the series * The compromise that was achieved by Rutherford and Ashford companies and looking forward to how it plays out in the future * That I liked and cared about Maddie and Caesar and could see them happy together in the future * All of it really except…
What I didn’t like: * The way Maddie was sidelined and in some ways made to feel “less” by her family though her input was what they should have been promoting * Having to say goodbye to the characters
Did I like this book? Yes Would I read more by this author? Definitely
Thank you to the author for the ARC – This is my honest review. 5 Stars
I can understand how Serenity Woods became enthralled with the Ashford family when they first started appearing in her brain. I don't know how her writing process usually works, but I know the books in this series are coming out fast and furious, so these characters must have popped up fully fleshed out! And I am amazed as always, at how these stories involve such varied characters. In this book, klutzy, usually wallfloweresque Maddie takes advantage of a superb disguise at a masquerade gala to find her inner sexy vixen and ends up having a fling with the main sponsor of the event, straitlaced, usually very cautious, anti-fling Caesar.
Again, as in many of Serenity's books, "technology for good" becomes a character. This time it is two different technologies and processes that are controlled by each of the lovers' families that could be integrated to greatly increase yields to "feed the world". Whether these processes actually exist or are a product of Serenity's imagination, I am amazed at the in-depth fictional research covered in the book.
But it is a romance, and yes the sex starts fairly quickly, but there are a lot of bumps and twists on the way to the HEA, and as with almost all of Serenity's books, I had to read all the way through without stopping--the first time. Then I woke up the next day and had to reread a couple of sections that had made me laugh out loud just to see if they were as funny and memorable as I thought. They were. Mainly I can say this book made me happy, and I truly enjoyed Maddie and her totally coming into her own helped by her growing feelings for Caesar, even when he was being the tightly-wound, mistrustful self he usually was before his encounter with his mystery lady at the masquerade. I received an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.
This is a lovely story from Serenity Woods and, although ultra wealthy, the characters are well rounded and likeable. Madelaine and Brielle are sisters, unlike Brielle, Maddie has body image issues due to the albinism that they were both born with, and the humiliation heaped on her by a previous boyfriend. A masked Christmas ball given by the Ashford foundation was the ideal opportunity for Maddie to put on a disguise and throw her inhibitions to the wind and she had handsome Caesar Ashford in her sights, a raunchy one night stand, he would never forget and he would never know who she was..........except for her mesmerizing violet eyes. Maddie and Caesar both came from wealthy New Zealand families, Caesar was heir apparent to Agritech, a multibillion dollar company, Maddie is a scientist working for her grandfather's rival agricultural technology group, unlike her sister, Maddie was happiest in muddy boots at the Sheppard's hut high up in the mountains, testing the soil rotations. The chemistry between Maddie and Caesar is off the charts, the banter is witty, but has Caesar been fooled ? he hates Maddie's grandfather with a passion, had she been sent by her grandfather to soften him and pave the way for a takeover ? As in all Serenity Woods books, this story is pure romance with just the right amount of angst, there are trust issues, there are self confidence issues, the journey is a short one but the hurdles are high, can Maddie and Caesar work together to overcome them, will both companies survive ? This story will make you smile, it will make you frustrated and it will bring a tear to your eye, an enjoyable read I received a free copy of this book and my review is totally voluntary
Although this book can be read as a standalone, if you haven’t read The Wrong Billionaire, I highly suggest you do.
Caesar Ashford is the most cynical person out there, though seeing how happy his brother Marcus and his wife Wren are makes him wonder whether he could find what they have. Natural, clumsy Maddie walks straight into a human brick wall at the Ashfords ’ fundraiser and masquerade ball, but soon realizes to whom the sexy wolfish grin belongs. And there is no way she can make her identity known to him, because she is Rutherford, and her grandpa just made an offer for their company. The very man Caesar dislikes and doesn’t trust.
Maddie becomes Cupcake while they share an unforgettable time, and he can’t stop thinking about her. When Maddie, her sister Brielle, and her grandfather arrived at the Ashfords’ offices, things took an unexpected turn. Although Brielle and Maddie resemble each other, it is the fact that Maddie was a bit late to the meeting, being her clumsy self, her exceptional eyes, and the small mole that has Caesar all in a twist. Of course, he thinks he has been played. When the two of them have to spend time over Valentine’s weekend on one of the Rutherfords’ farms, Caesar becomes a little less cynical and more relaxed as the weather and Maddie’s clumsiness ensure romance and laugh-out-loud moments. Still, it is her scientific brain that is a huge turn-on for him. All while she is once again hiding a secret.
Of course, there is drama, and Caesar believes that again he has been played and pushed, so he will make some decisions, which lead to some heavy, sad, and emotional scenes, but after some brotherly advice from Marcus and introspection, the mysterious billionaire ensures a great solution for both companies and an HEA.
The Mysterious Billionaire = a new comfort read unlocked.
Serenity has long been one of my go to comfort read authors, and when she launched this series with The Wrong Billionaire, I couldn’t believe she’d given me a new favourite leading man over Damon (I still love him though !). But book besties, Serenity and this series is the gift that keeps on giving because Caesar has been introduced into the equation and, much like Maddie, I simply can’t see anyone else.
I’ve been impatiently waiting for Caesar and his mysterious girl’s romance and it did not disappoint. The Mysterious Billionaire had all my favourite tropes:
✔️ Billionaire
✔️ Forced proximity
✔️ Hidden identity
✔️ Enemies to lovers
✔️ Workplace romance
✔️ He Falls First
✔️ Touch her and die
So I was invested before even opening the book. In Serenity’s trademark style, Maddie and Caesar had a chemistry (not just scientific) that was electrified by the emotion and angst between the two of them. Their banter, tension, and undeniable connection made every scene together impossible to look away from, and I found myself completely addicted from beginning to end.
This book is one of the reasons why the phrase “just one more chapter” exists but piece of advice.. When you read this book, make sure you have all your reading essentials and are comfortable. Once you start, you won’t stop until there’s no more pages to read even if it makes reading until the early hours.
If you’re looking for a swoony, feel-good romance with characters you’ll quickly become attached to, The Mysterious Billionaire is one I’d highly recommend. A definite comfort read and a new favourite from Serenity.
Warring Families and Deception I don’t think I’ve read a story where one of the main characters has albinism for many years, so this made the heroine’s character a bit different. Though apart from a mention early on about wearing sunglasses due to photosensitivity, we never see Maddie applying sunscreen or covering up her skin and I was surprised that her choice of hat was a baseball cap, rather than a wide brimmed hat giving her more protection. Whilst I could understand Maddie concealing her name at the party she attends, as she was enjoying her time with Caesar, I was uncomfortable with her taking what she wanted from him with their one night stand when she knew he would never have entertained it if he knew her relationship to Tom Rutherford. Would have liked an epilogue, not only as this story has a HFN ending, but because whilst the characters have chemistry, they have such completely different lifestyles. Maddie lives in jeans and tees and is happiest in the coolest (because of her albinism) and remotest areas of New Zealand with as little interaction with others as possible. Caesar, on the other hand, is gregarious, a figurehead for his company and is happiest in designer suits, five star luxury and warm sunshine. I found it difficult to see how they would combine their lives and be happy. Though with Maddie’s new appointment it seems she will have to be the one to change, but how happy will she be? I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I'm so in love with Ceasor and Maggie's story. Right from the beginning there is an heated connection between the two that creates a multitude of issues for them both.
Ceasor is every woman's dream. Wealthy, sexy, with a sense of humor and grumpy too. He doesn't believe in love and his job seems to be his only life.
He meets Maddie at a masked ball and becomes infatuated with her but loses her before the ball ends.
The story is full of warmth, humor, and two very different families trying to merge their empires under great pressure and power struggles.
Maddie and Ceasor are caught in the middle and it makes for a very complicated dynamic for the pair.
Maddie is sweet and nieve and Ceasor is rough edges and sarcasm. He has trust issues and Maddie sees rainbows.
I'm always amazed how Serenity researches her subject and goes into great detail about how mechanics and projects and science intermingled with her main characters. It's always so interesting to me.
Maddie and Ceasor are wonderful written characters. Even though Ceasor is a billionaire, it is never about the money. He is kind, gentle, supportive and so sweet with Maddie.
Maddie is such a sweet thing and I love her optimism and sense of humor. Their love story is burn up the pages hot with a lot of turmoil, soul searching and learning to trust
A very sweet story. Caesar Ashford’s father owns a very successful global agricultural technology business, all three of his children work for him. On the day they were holding a charity masked ball Caesar’s father Edward , together with family and board members had a meeting with Tom Rutherford and members of his family, making an enormous offer to buy his company. Tom is a ruthless and unpleasant business man and Edward is very proud of his company and knows if the Rutherfords invest his family will be pushed out, he doesn’t want to lose it. He tells his family they must settle down, be married soon, or they won’t be able to stop the board of Directors from agreeing the deal.
At the ball Caesar meets a very intriguing woman in a mask, and also he thinks she is wearing a wig, they flirt, and one thing leads to another … ! Caesar has to meet various people so he has to go back to the ball, and later on when he looks for the woman she is nowhere to be seen. Some time later Edward asks for another meeting to discuss a counter offer, Caesar, who particularly dislikes Tom is absolutely appalled to find that his mystery woman is Madeline Rutherford, Tom’s granddaughter. He is absolutely furious! He has been played for a fool! Maddie takes over the meeting, explaining what she does. Edward is impressed and agrees that Caesar, being the most sceptical of the family should accompany Maddie to her family farm on the South Island to see the work she has been doing there. He refuses, but his father insists, they will be spending a long weekend together on the South Island.
And so their relationship begins. He is very impressed in the work she has carried out and monitored, realising she is not the social butterfly he imagined, but he still thinks that he is being manipulated by her grandfather. There are many twists and turns, and they end up on bad terms. It takes a long discussion with his brother before he see possibilities in the deal. At the next meeting he takes the chair and states exactly what his company counter-proposes, and Tom very reluctantly agrees. Caesar and Maddie are a couple from that day on. It has been quite a whirlwind to get them there!
These days I'm a little bored by billionaire books and in this author's books it seems that everybody in New Zealand is a billionaire. Does their currency have extra zeros? is it easier to become a billionaire in New Zealand money? But these people talk dirt and wear muddy boots so they seem a little more down to earth than some of the book billionaires that I've known in my day. (This is a good thing.)
Anyway, the story is that Maddie and Caesar had a half-anonymous one-night-stand. Half-anonymous because she knew who he was. She's an agricultural scientist with self-esteem issues because of her albinism. Her family are interested in a business partnership with his family, but things get complicated because she gets pregnant, and because he can sense she hasn't been completely honest with him. He hates her grandfather with an intensity that left me a bit curious. Grandpa is a ruthless businessman, sure, but Caesar's experiences with him were limited and I wasn't sure what exactly happened to make Caesar so passionate about disliking Grandpa.
It was an easy read that I finished in a day. What I like about this author's books is that everybody is basically good people, and they have cottoned on to the fact that talking is a way to solve disagreements.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book and am leaving a completely honest review.
Book two in the Ashford Legacy series doesn't disappoint. I was very curious about this one after the lead in from book one. Who was this mysterious woman?
Dr. Madeleine 'Maddy' Rutherford. Granddaughter of the Ashfords' biggest rival Tom, is exotic, shy, clever and a bit clumsy. She comes across Ceasar at a masked ball.
“Oh yeah. My family refuses to be seen with me in public because they know I’m going to show them up somehow.”
Ceasar Ashford is heir to Ashford Agritech and dislikes Tom Rutherford with a passion after he was humiliated by him when he was starting out. He is an eligible bachelor with definite trust issues.
"Maybe it’s because I’m the eldest, but I’ve always been the one people turn to when they want something. I’d never admit it to anyone, but it’s been a lifelong struggle to be seen and liked for myself."
With shades of Romeo and Juliet this story is about trust and honesty. All with a fabulous New Zealand backdrop. Beautiful Queenstown is the extra character in this story. I swear that Serenity does more for New Zealand tourism than the tourist board.
We've now had Marcus and Ceasar, I'm very much looking forward to the final book in this series when their sister Aurelia meets her match.
There will be some spoilers so beware! This is the second book in the Ashford Legacy series: The Mysterious Billionaire. It starts at a masquerade ball where our two characters "meet". They end up having a quick tryst and then part ways, much to the chagrin of our main character (Caeser). Their identities remain a mystery. However, one character (Maddie) is aware of who the other person under the mask is. This is where it gets complicated. This story takes place in New Zealand, not in the cities, but for the most part, at a farm where Maddie is trying to revolutionize productivity. Caesar is trying to prevent his company from being taken over (by Maddie's grandfather) after just patenting a way to predict pasture growth. Can these two characters form a partnership that will be beneficial to both of them? Can they get past their trust issues? If you are into conservation, technology and improving farming conditions to "feed the world" you will find this book fascinating. Of course, there is a lot of angst, a bit of spice, a connection both physically and intellectually with the main characters and a HOA. My only problem (here's the spoiler) is that I don't know if I could be so forgiving: a lie by omission is still a lie. How do you move on from that?
The Mysterious Billionaire The Ashford Legacy #2 Serenity Woods ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
What an emotional roller coaster…. How does a man with so much arrogance, stealth and sexiness turn into a man whom ever reader will love…. Welcome Caesar Ashford. The man reeks of alpha, he pulls no punches and wears a suit like no one else. But this ice king might of met his match with Maddie Rutherford.
One night, no names no information, that was the intention for the queen of uncoordinated, Maddie Rutherford. She can literally walk into anything, but walking into and sleeping with Caesar wasn’t intentional. Their families are fierce competitors in the agricultural world of New Zealand. That single night will change the whole trajectory of a hostile takeover and the lives of Maddie and Caesar.
Now she pregnant and the takeover is more prevalent then ever, this pair take a journey of lies, fear, rules, emotion, and love. Never the journey planned but the best one ever. Maddie and Caesar share an explosive chemistry seen in the bedroom and the boardroom, while Caesar is the heir of Ashford he shows his alpha side, where Maddie is the quiet scientist, the little mouse, but her intelligence makes her smart and beautiful.
Join Caesar and Maddie is this next instalment of the Ashford legacy. I’m loving this series.
Ashfords legacy book 2 gives us the story of grumpy eldest Ashford, Caesar. Set to take over, he’s the billionaire heir fighting off takeover bids and keeping his company. They have a long standing rivalry with the Rutherfords who are making a fresh bid, and unknown to both, Tom Rutherford, the patriarch, is using his own granddaughter to get what he wants. Caesar and Maddie’s first encounter is at a masked ball and they share a passionate hook up, with Maddie adamant to remain a perfect stranger. Weeks later, they finally meet again in the board room and Caesar is so angry, he all but pops a vain! Forced proximity and fighting an undeniable connection, Maddie and Caesar burn hotter than the sun, but she’s hiding a secret that will tear up the relationship when he’s already sketchy about her true intentions. Angsty because Caesar is a grump and Maddie can be quite sassy but it all unfolds access the board room. Deliciously steamy book 2, a standalone with interconnected characters, can’t wait for the heat to turn up a notch when it’s time for Baby sister Ashford to take the limelight.
I voluntarily reviewed a free advance copy of this book provided by the author. The opinions expressed are my own
Caesar Ashford and Maddie Rutherford fit together the moment they meet. Their banter is TERRIFIC and FUNNY especially Maddie’s quick wit and responses! After one meeting they both feel the tug towards the other, but alas it doesn’t happen until a meeting is held between the Rutherfords and Ashfords. Ruthless Rutherford as I call Maddie’s grandfather Tom wants Ashford Agi. If you read the first book in the series you get it. After that meeting, it is up to Maddie and Caesar to do their homework if a business deal between the two rival companies will benefit both or only Rutherford. I adored the chemistry between Maddie and Caesar, but their conversations were the best! They “click” on so many levels: Interest in agriculture and science, mundane everyday things, growing up with wealth and the challenges of finding someone who wants them for themselves, their love of the land- Ashford’s farm and Rutherford’s research site Blackridge, Caesar sees Maddie for her qualities, not her unusual appearance, Maddie sees through Caesar’s gruff exterior and sex to name a few. Enjoy this wonderful book and addition to the series. As always, Serenity nabs you on page one and you cannot put the book down!! I received an Advanced Reader Copy for an honest review of this book.
My dive into romance novels, the literary variety with real substance, started with The Vineyard by Barbara Delinsky. Subsequently, I read her entire catalogue. She was moving toward more mature style of writing that I especially loved. She began a series of books that took on a topic such a maple syrup production or angora rabbit fur yarn making and wove it through the story. Added dimension was given to the book, and I loved coming away having learned omething new.
This novel gave me echos of that writing styles. Not that this author has not provided such education in her works, but I feel like I now have a working knowledge of soil restoration and pasture science. I love that. To give the author her due, I have learned a fabulous amount about New Zealand, the Mauri language, etc.
Maddie and Caesar are a precious couple. I had fun spending several days with them, reacquainting myself with Marcus, and meeting the rest of the Ashford family and the Rutherfords. So happy to see that book 3 of the series is in the works. If three is as much of a character study the these first two books have been, the author may need to add a fourth book to let us set how this generation and their families become a new generation.
Ashford's Legacy, Book 2, tells the story of Caesar, the grumpy eldest Ashford and billionaire heir. He is fighting off takeover bids to protect his company, which has a long-standing rivalry with the Rutherford family. The Rutherfords are making a fresh bid, and unbeknownst to both families, patriarch Tom Rutherford is manipulating his own granddaughter, Maddie, to achieve his aims.
Caesar and Maddie's first encounter is a passionate, anonymous one at a masked ball. Maddie is determined to remain a perfect stranger, but weeks later, they meet again in the boardroom, much to Caesar's fury. Despite their forced proximity and an undeniable connection, their relationship intensifies. However, Maddie harbours a secret that threatens to destroy everything, especially since Caesar already doubts her true intentions. Will he believe her? Can they make it out the other side?
This angsty, deliciously steamy standalone features a grumpy Caesar and a sassy Maddie, with much of the drama unfolding in the boardroom. With interconnected characters, Book 2 promises to turn up the heat, setting the stage for baby sister Ashford's story.
A love story begun on secrets, lies and a family feud. Billionaire Caesar has despised Maddie's grandfather for 10 years. A merger of their family companies is very unlikely if he has a say in it. At a masquerade ball, Caesar helps agriculture scientist Maddie when she stumbles. But, while she recognizes him, Maddie, in disguise, knows she can't tell him who she is. But, their one night stand changes everything. Caesar is obsessed with finding out who his mysterious beautiful lover is. Maddie must make a life changing decision. Lies and deception, even though unintended, mean distrust. Travelling together from their wealthy Auckland neighbourhoods to the South Island back country near Queensland, opens Caesar and Maddie to possibilities. But can Caesar trust Maddie?
This is a lovely story about a uniquely beautiful insecure woman falling for a man she believes will never trust her. As usual, Serenity gives us just the right amount of sexual tension. Read in one evening as a I couldn’t put it down.
The Mysterious Billionaire is Dr Madeline ( Maddy) Rutherford and Caesar Ashford’s entertaining and at times emotional story. It’s book two in the Ashford Legacy and It didn’t take me long to become invested in this couple and their journey. Maddy meets Caesar at a masked ball and from the moment she bumps into him sparks fly. One thing leads to another and they sneak off for a passionate moment but would Caesar have got close and personal with Maddy if he knew her surname…….. The Rutherford are the enemy as far as Caesar is concerned and when he meets Maddy in a meeting for a partnership he is determined to forget their shared moment but what happens when two pink lines turn up on a test, will he step up and admit his feelings or will his distaste for Tom Rutherford ruin his chance of happiness with Maddy. This is a beautifully written story with characters I fell hard and fast for. I smiled, I swooned and I held my breath as I cheered this couple on.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book and this is my honest opinion.
Let's face it; we love to fantasize about being a billionaire and enjoying all the perks that come with it. That's only one reason I love the billionaires in Serenity's books. And no matter how much money they have, they still have the same problems and worries that we ordinary folks share. In The Mysterious Billionaire, I loved the flirty dialog and sparks that fly between Caesar and Maddie. They have great chemistry. The masked ball in the beginning was fun because the wig and mask and disguise gave Maddie confidence and self esteem that she lacked in everyday life as she seduces Caesar. She is clumsy, funny and brilliant and soon finds herself in a tangled web of secrets, deception, family conflicts and romance. The secrets and surprise that roll out are juicy and sexy. And as in all of Serenity's books, her love for New Zealand is obvious as she paints beautiful pictures of all the exotic locales. I can't wait for the third book in the series which should complement the first two well. I volunteered to read and review an early copy and I am so glad i did! Read it!
Ooh, Caesar and Maddie's story immediately got my vote with not one, but TWO of my favourite tropes: surprise pregnancy and forced proximity. Usually the other way round, but this worked a treat.
Maddie and Cooper have an immediate connection, so much so that they need a hotel room IMMEDIATELY. No names exchanged, just sharing themselves and falling a little bit in love. Maddy however knew who her mystery man was while Caesar had no idea that he had just been with their rival's granddaughter. The story proceeds with them spending a few days on a farm far from civilization where they continue to fall in love.
I love how Serenity's heroes always see far more than anyone ever has in the shero. She empowers women in her stories and always investigates real medical physical or psychological conditions for her characters. After reading one of her books, you not only have the Happily Ever After fuzzy feeling, you are also better informed about a medical condition and can talk about it with more empathy than before.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. This latest addition to the totally bingeable “Ashford Legacy” series is an emotional roller coaster. Unusual for her, Maddie Rutherford has a one night stand with the heir apparent of a rival company, Caesar Ashford. When she’s later sent to soften him up for a takeover bid, things don’t go quite as planned. I absolutely love the banter between the two protagonists, and the caring and compassion shown by Caesar when interacting with Maddie. When their burgeoning trust is threatened, he proves to be a safe hero who will always elevate her needs and desires above his own. The story is driven by complex and realistic characters who the reader becomes emotionally invested it. While each of these books is a standalone, I highly recommend the entire series because they are all beautifully written, escapist stories that bring the reader on a journey of love and connection.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book, and I'm so pleased I did - it's great! Serenity's writing fills you with warmth, and as you get to know the characters, you are urging them to realise what a great relationship is developing. Of course, there is a happy ending, and as you would expect, there are ups and downs along the way. Especially as Caesar and Maddie's family aren't friendly. Despite that and knowing it won't be easy, their connection is too strong to resist. You are taken on an emotional journey, made all the better for the setting in New Zealand. I've only been there once, but I feel I can picture the settings. Serenity always brings a different setting or knowledge to her writing, and, in this series, despite the wealth, they are farmers. Additionally, both Maddie and her sister have albinism. My only criticism is that it ended too soon- luckily, there are other books in the series!
What happens when the scions of two heated business rivals indulge in a steamy romp at a masquerade? Madison Rutherford recognizes Caesar Ashton, son of her family's arch enemy, but he hasn't a clue about her identity. Flattered by his attention, she throws caution to the wind for an amazing one night fling. No one will know, right? Only 8 weeks later, she's sitting across a boardroom table from him …… secretly pregnant with his baby!
This second in Ashford series does not disappoint! The connection between Maddy and Caesar is deliciously steamy. Their journey to learning to recognize their own lives need not be dictated by their families is exasperating, heart-wrenching, and ultimately satisfying. You could read this as a stand-alone, but why not get the whole experience? I can't wait for sister Aurelia's story in the next book! I did receive an advance copy from the author, but it was my pleasure to volunteer my review.
I really enjoyed *The Mysterious Billionaire*! This book had the perfect mix of romance, drama, and secrets that kept me turning the pages. The mystery surrounding the hero kept me hooked, and I loved uncovering his story bit by bit.
The chemistry between the main characters was undeniable, with plenty of tension and some seriously steamy moments. I found myself invested in both their relationship and the challenges they had to overcome to be together.
I also loved getting more of the Ashford family and seeing the overall series continue to develop. The characters were easy to connect with, and the story kept me entertained from beginning to end.
If you enjoy billionaire romances with secrets, drama, and lots of chemistry, this one is definitely worth reading! I can't wait to see what happens next in the series.
The Mysterious Billionaire is Maddie and Caesar’s story and book 2 in the Ashford Legacy series. Caesar is the grump to Maddie’s sunshine, she is also a little accident prone and naïve when it comes to her Grandfather, Tom Rutherford. As with all of this author’s books I found it to be an emotional rollercoaster, full of angst and plenty of spice! It’s always an education reading Serenity’s stories whether it’s about New Zealand and its culture or the topics that weave through the books. There have been many times when I have done a little research to learn more about what is being discussed and this story was no exception. It was also interesting to learn about Albinism. I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of this book and thoroughly recommend it. I’m now looking forward to Aurelia’s story.
Serenity Woods' second installment in the Ashford Legacy series does not disappoint. It's a modern-day Romeo and Juliet story filled with romance, family rivalry, and forbidden attraction. Maddie, sweet, awkward, and endearingly clumsy, meets Caesar at the masquerade ball of the season. She knows exactly who he is, but he has no idea who she is behind her mask. Their families are fierce business rivals, making any relationship between them off-limits.
Keeping their identities hidden, they share one unforgettable night together. Caesar wants more, but Maddie insists it can only be one night. Of course, fate has other plans.
This is a sweet, engaging romance with lovable characters and a satisfying happy ending.
