Lavender’s Lost Duke by Brooke Hampton is a charming historical romance filled with tenderness, gentle humor, and a lovely sense of emotional warmth. Lavender and Thomas make a wonderful pair, and I enjoyed watching their relationship develop through thoughtful conversations, quiet acts of care, and unexpected moments of sweetness.
The tree-swing scene was delightful, and I especially loved the tender way Thomas cared for Lavender after the bee sting. The flower theme woven throughout the story added another lovely touch.
Alongside the sweet, clean Regency romance, the danger involving treason gave the story excitement without overwhelming the relationship at its heart. Lavender and Thomas’s journey held my attention, and I was very happy with their happily-ever-after.
This was a five-star read for me. I own all three books in the series and have loved them! I enjoyed this one so much that I also purchased a physical copy for my collection.

I simply adored Lavender’s Lost Duke, another fantastic Regency romance from Brooke Hampton! I love this series & couldn’t wait for Lavender’s story. She’s the third daughter, easily overlooked & always in the background. Like her namesake, she’s seen as a supporting flower in her family’s dynamics. I absolutely loved her getting a chance to shine & find true love.
With Lady Lavender Gardner’s father lying on his deathbed, her parents are determined she marry quickly before he passes. Always the pleaser, Lavender agrees, even though she’ll be sponsored by a virtual stranger. Though she longs for love, after being jilted by the man she hoped to marry, she’s determined to marry for convenience. But when she meets the handsome servant who truly sees her, she’s torn between following her heart or obeying her parents’ wishes.
The Duke of Fenleigh, Thomas Monteclare, wasn’t the same after his father died & has become prone to drinking to excess. When his crafty cousin accuses him of treason, Thomas hides at a friend’s estate to kick his addiction & clear his name. Posing as a servant, he finds new purpose in hard work & gains unexpected friendships. But when he meets Lady Lavender, who appreciates him despite his supposed station, he vows to be worthy of her, especially when his conniving cousin begins to court her.
Full of intrigue, swoon-worthy romance, dastardly villains, & twists, Lavender’s story completely captured my heart! She’s kind & compassionate, used to being the wallflower & most comfortable in a library. Suffering from emotional & physical scars, I loved seeing her gain some spunk. Her mother is completely awful, & I may have been cheering for her to get her comeuppance.
I adored Thomas! He’s such a charming, lovable character. I enjoyed seeing his growth as he sees life through a servant’s eyes & loved how he teaches his fellow servants to read. Jack, the Dowager Duchess, & the other side characters made this even more delightful. And, I couldn’t wait to see Lord Chilcott finally get his dues!

4.25 stars: This was a lovely sweet Regency romance that could work as a standalone, although it is third in a series. I really enjoyed getting to see Lavender, who has often felt sidelined in her family as the third daughter, take center stage here. Her father's ill health and her sister's pregnancy have caused Lavender to need to be sponsored for a rushed Season in town by a family friend rather than by her own family. This unprecedented freedom gives Lavender the chance to act as she likes day-to-day, but she still must guard herself against bee stings (as she is particularly susceptible) while finding the security of a husband as quickly as possible (per her family's wishes). At the same time, Duke Thomas Monteclare has been accused of treason by his grasping cousin and is trying in vain to get rid of his alcoholism, so he decides to take advantage of the kindness and discretion of a friend and fellow Duke acting as a footman for him...a Duke whose wife is the family friend sponsoring Lavender's Season. Naturally, Lavender and Thomas are able to spend time together here, but it is complicated by his deception and the fact that his cousin has decided to court Lavender.
I never really understood why the cousin was so insistent on choosing Lavender to court, or why we didn't get to see her have a true Season with events that mattered; almost every scene was her in the garden with Thomas. It was interesting to consider the upstairs/downstairs dynamic, and how Thomas realized that his life could be more fulfilling and less lonely by choice. I loved how tender Thomas was with Lavender, and I was definitely rooting for their relationship. It was pretty crazy of her to invite herself to his house, but I guess it worked out for them lol. I had a fun time reading this!

Enchanting- pure and simple Regency magic. This is book 3 in the series- I have not read books 1 and 2.... YET. Oh, the power of yet. Brooke had my attention quickly and I couldn't read quickly enough to find out what was going to happen. Yes, it had all of the regency swoon, proprieties, and expectations, but it had so much more:
* A quiet FMC turned spunky (my favorite quality in a character)
* An overbearing mother that maaay get put in her place
* The mean girl- sigh, why oh why is there such a thing in real life or fiction?
* the Duke- and of course he's handsome
* Hidden identity- but I'm not telling who
* The aunt and uncle's sponsorship of her season
* A conniving relative who wants the property and the glory- and will stop at nothing
*Lots of humor, lots of banter
He had to find himself and took drastic measures to do so. She had a promise to keep before the death of her father. Their stations are worlds apart- but she is not bothered by falling for a servant. I don't want to give away too much- so just READ IT! I will certainly be going back for more in books one and two- I just need to meet and understand even more of the Gardner family. Another Regency romance crafted to perfection by the amazing Brooke Hampton!
The premise of this is fantastic! You take a duke deep in his cups and throw him into a self-imposed undercover-esq position as a servant- in a household of a lady he'd love to court. Throw in a bit of suspense with some false accusations leveled at the Duke, and you've got the makings of a great story.
Lavendar was so likeable and relatable! She coped with her overbearing, ridiculous mother by becoming a people pleaser and a peacemaker. I loved her personality and that she was kind, quiet, and sweet but with a secret backbone and assertiveness I appreciated. The symbolism with her name was fantastic as well!
And Thomas! He really redeemed himself from his rather dismal beginning, and I loved having a bit of secret identity trope in it. I loved his likeability and willingness to change. The mini supsense plot was also super fun.
If you liked Anneka Walker's The Stranger I Loved or Laura Beer's Courting the Unconvential series, then then this book is for you! It will keep you reading nonstop for what happens next. You don't need to have read the others in the series to read this one, but it definitely makes you appreciate the side characters more. Overall, a lovely read!

The Brief: The Duke escapes unfounded accusations and hides at his friend’s house. Lavender wants to fulfill her father’s wish to be married. And they meet. Sort of.
The Debrief: Ok. Lavender is my favorite. Throwing that out there @authorbrookehampton and I’m not taking it back. I’ve loved this series and how each sister has traits similar to their namesake. But Lavender. She had this quiet way of making her presence known even while feeling overlooked. Her growth to total boldness made me all kinds of proud. Fun. Loyal. Lovely.
And Thomas. Talk about an easy fall. Watching him become more aware of who he wants to be while also stepping in manure - it all just looked good on him. And his treatment of her. Melty. The entire ending charmed me. It’s a story about finding the person who sees past the outside to the squishy gooey stuff inside. And then adds a scoop of ice cream.
The Rhyme: Lavender is falling, but not sure the man will fit into her life. Can Thomas prove his innocence and have a chance at a lovely wife?

Lavender Gardner was named after the flower and her mother has always told her that she was to bring comfort to her family. She is happy to do so, even fading into the background so her sisters can be seen. But what a great price to pay! Thomas Monteclare truly sees Lavender for who she is—a caring, compassionate young lady who puts everyone’s needs before hers. Their developing relationship was one that was filled with encouragement and standing by one another.
My favorite scenes in the book were Thomas (aka Tom) learning about gardening and getting to know Jack, a funny, quirky, likable household servant of Thomas’s friend, Sam. He makes up saying about animals and I smiled every time he said one.

My thoughts: I really think this is a me problem 😅 I just wasn’t in the mood for this I think, but I went ahead and read it so I could be ready for release day.
I’ve enjoyed a couple of Brooke Hampton’s other books (book 1 in this series, as well as An Unrivaled Match) and I think this one would be enjoyed by many! So if you’ve read any of her others I would for sure consider this one.
I felt like some of Lavender’s mental conversations were too circular/repetitive for me.
I really enjoyed Thomas’s POV and all of his interactions with Jack as he tried to learn to be a servant. I also cracked up anytime his cousin was mentioned 😂
The burn, the bee sting, the swing—so many great moments!

If you're looking for a sweet, clean, adorable regency romance, this one is for you.
I absolutely loved the friendship that was formed between Lady Lavender and "Tom" the disguised Duke of Fenleigh. He was absolutely smitten with her and she brought out the best in him.
Not only was it a sweet romance but we also have a conniving and spiteful cousin seeking to ruin Thomas and Lady Lavender which added a touch of drama to the story.
While I did like this one and would absolutely recommend it, I would have liked to see a little more depth and background in some areas. Some chapters and thoughts felt repetitive and it took a while to get to any real movement of the story.

What a beautiful book. I loved the characters. Thomas, Lavender and the whole supporting cast surrounding them. I loved the growth that takes place in their lives.
Thomas and Lavender both have some healing and learning to do. I loved watching Thomas grow through his time as a gardener. He not only saw how hard they worked and how much they were overlooked, but he also saw their happiness and felt the sense of accomplishment at the end of the day.
Lavender has always been in the background. The one who helps others and brings peace. I loved watching her take charge of her life and be a bit bolder.
Jack was a super fun character that added humor and friendship throughout the book.

Thomas has lost him self in trivial pursuits and drinking until he sees how much happier his servants are than him and he decides to go into hiding to escape rumors.
Their story is one of friends to lovers forged over time and through trials. The villain of this story was well done and I could not be happier with the ending.

This story stole my heart. What a beautiful and lovely read. I adored the first two books, but this one stepped up as the winner.
Thomas. False accusations with dire consequences lead him to step away for a bit. Rediscovering himself. And he finds Companionship, love, and lasting friendships. Disguised as a Gardner he learns the satisfaction of hard work, but being able to court the Lovely Lady Lavender leads him to desperately find evidence to prove his innocence.
Lavender is tasked with finding a husband, her father’s last wish and Lavender is one devoted to pleasing and never causing grief. Her kindness and virtue out-way her scars that her mother forces her to cover up. Willing to settle for a less than desirable man, I was so thankful Thomas came into the picture and fought for her.

Beautiful story full of romance, hidden identity, character growth, and healing.
I loved the romance between Thomas and Lavender. The strength of character, willingness to grow and change, and the sweet moments together were all beautifully written. However, I will say that Jack and the Dowager Duchess stole the show. I adored their characters and the light and joy they brought to the story.

I loved this book! I finished so fast because I couldn’t put it down. I was rooting for the main characters the whole time and enjoyed watching them grow and become more complete versions of themselves. I thought all the side characters brought lightheartedness and always made me smile. So Good!

Oh my goodness, this book. 😍 I absolutely ate it up! Both main characters were the kind of people you can’t help but root for and want to see get their happily ever after.
I loved Lavender and her kindness. She had a desire to make others feel seen, no matter their status. Thomas was admirable in the way he wanted to learn how to work hard. He gave himself a fresh start while still making sure his people were taken care of.
The romance was so tender, and it was such a delight to watch both of them find love.

Hidden identity sweet regency romance
Loved it! I love a good hidden identity/mismatched station historical romance and this one did not disappoint!
Thomas is lost, he has some bad habits and rumors about him abound so one night in a drunken state he decides to run away and hide from his problems. He finds work as a servant and there meets Lavender.
After years of everyone only wanting him for what they can gain it is refreshing for Lavender to become his friend when she thinks he is just a servant.
I would definitely recommend this one!

-My dear friends, first off, The Gardner Family Romance Series by dear @authorbrookehampton is simply delightful. It is a series best read in order for full enjoyment I think. Lavender’s Lost Duke is Book 3 and is such a heartwarming story. Oh how I adore this dear story and the endearing cast of characters, but especially Lavender and Thomas. Their journey is full of such heart, goodness, and shows beautifully the difference love makes for the better. I absolutely loved how this beautiful story shows the importance and the beautiful tender difference of seeing a person completely for who they are. This matters so greatly! Oh the humor, swoon, growth, depth, and beauty amid the obstacles and surprising plot twists held my attention from start to finish, and I loved seeing love bloom so delightfully within for such deserving characters. Do not miss out on this dear story snd series. They are book treasures of the heart and are worth reading! 💜📚‼️✨
•Content: Some strained family relationships, severe allergies to bees, a “ wanted criminal”, struggles with alcohol, scars from a fire, shady activity from side characters, family member deathly sick with consumption, some feelings of loss, grief, not bring enough/seen, gossip of society, secret identity, some mystery, no language, no violence, kisses only!

Another book to absolutely love by Brooke Hampton! I absolutely adored this book. Lavender feels just like her namesake, just someone easily overlooked. There are rumors of treason about Thomas, so he disappears and goes undercover. Their love story is so adorable, I’m definitely going to keep thinking about it for a while. Other things to love:

Another fantastic book by Brooke Hampton!
In this story the youngest Gardner sister has her moment. The fellow book worm, peace keeper, and wallflower has her moment to shine. Lavender is able to find her power, so to speak, and come out of the shell she was forced into by those around her (overbearing mother?)
Lavender falls in love with someone who would not benefit her family at all but she can’t resist those storm grey eyes.
Our Duke is lost as his cousin is out to take down his good name and wants to label him a traitor to take his title. What does our Duke do? Well he pretends to be a servant in his friend’s home. Learned a lesson or two from that.
Truly enjoyed watching the love blossom and everything tied together nicely in the end. Who doesn’t love a happy ending?

LOVED this book!!
This series has been an absolute joy to read, and I am officially desperate for book four! I binged my re-read of the first two books right before diving into this story, and trust me—reading them in order makes the payoff so much sweeter!
I loved the twist of our MMC taking on a secret identity! Watching him navigate a totally new social status—and the chaos that comes with it—was so fun, and his journey alongside the side characters kept me completely entertained. Jack and Mrs. Bitters stole my heart, and seeing familiar faces from books one and two felt like a mini reunion.
Then there’s Lavender! Watching her blossom from a wallflower into a woman with quiet, unstoppable confidence made me fall in love with her character even more. I teared up multiple times with the pain that she has suffered and to see her grow the way she does is incredible.
The sweet, secret moments between Lavender and Thomas in the garden are some of my favorite moments! They dialed up the slow-burn romance to perfection and made their connection feel so real. Add in a dash of mystery surrounding Thomas's past, and I was hooked.
I cannot recommend this series enough! If you love hidden identities, a bit of mystery, forced proximity, and a sweet swoony Regency romance this book is definitely for you!
