Sandpiper Dreams: Sequel to "The Inheritance"

Rate this book
In the sequel to The Inheritance, we meet the beautiful Carlita Mendoza of Belize and share her journey of love and painful loss; we travel the tunnels of abandonment and depression as Carlita longs for the return of her first love, Devin Andersen. Sandpiper Dreams is the story of a frightened young girl who eventually evolves into a confident and intelligent woman and manages to break through the veil of sadness. All the while, Eduardo Calderon, a private investigator, relentlessly searches for Devin Andersen, and Carlita dares to love again after a chance encounter with a childhood friend. When the lives of Carlita Mendoza and the Andersen family intersect, Devin Andersen’s exploits are finally exposed. Sandpiper Dreams is a beautifully rendered novel set against the exotic backdrop of the Belizean shoreline, where the little sandpiper birds flutter along in life much like their human counterparts.

Did the book really have to end????

Buckling down I want to say that first of all I never had a chance to read the original book but will be in the future (thanks Carol!) while I am fascinated to know what that one is about. And as a result that I hadn't read the first one I had made mention I would be reviewing the fact whether this book could or couldn't be also a standalone if one were in the same predicament. In my honest opinion is there wasn't a special emphasis on the fact that it is a sequel you would never know there was a book previously done since the author does a wonderful job of catching you up before starting off on her story.

The characters had life to them and they didn't stay the same but beautifully grew as you read about them. They had some of the same passions, struggles and beloved victories that we face in life while it didn't seem that any character was truly left out as most times they are when there is such a large cast. Where the book goes unusual on the cast is towards the end when the story leaves from Carlita's family back to the Andersons, which is more than likely the sequel part.

Another thing that I will give to those readers who are like me (I will go to bed or clean up the house after I finish another chapter) this book will not give you a break. The chapters have beautiful names that describes the importance in the timeline while they are so short that most time my one chapter ended up being a few more before I could drag my pleading fingers away from the book to do what needed to be done.

And another thing that amazes me with Carol is the beautiful rhythm of the story and the easy flow. This book takes place over years but you aren't lost or overwhelmed for the author does an amazing thing that one rarely sees or is carried out properly. Her story is like the sandpipers on which it is focused for it darts forth in spots reading to you so you can pick the treasures of the future from the pages and then makes a retreat back into the past when it seems to get to be a bit overwhelming so it can catch you up. Definitely loved this part of the story.

Finally my last praise to the book is how the author used her characters wisely to have them interacting with each other, to make the story a cohesive piece that lead not only to the healing of the heroine but to other people such as Eduardo and his wife while he was working on the case. We so little know our impact on each other and how our responses can influence each other but in the end with work it can pay off. It is the emotional depth within the pages that makes me cry chick-lit on this one....

So if so many good things then why not five stars? There were a few blunders but then again I know many books have a few spots that you can catch up. In this case there were two instance where the wrong name was used, there was a bit of a repetitiveness at the start, a name was missing the first letter and also a paragraph that I was reading towards the end seemed out of place to me.

Otherwise the simple writing, the beautiful description of Belize (I now want to go) and the easiness of the letter formatting is all a keeper. I would definitely recommend this book for anyone who wants an emotionally deep story that is a romance but at the same time so much more....

A wonderful follow up to the Inheritance. The reader gets to learn what exactly what Devin Andersen was up to when he was flying out of the country to Belize before he was incarcerated for embezzling from his deceased father's business. Devin was quite a selfish man. Only looking out for his own interests and whatever makes him happy. He never realized how his selfish actions would affect other people. People who were supposed to be dear to him. In death, he reached out to Carlita, the woman that he promised the world to on his last trip from Belize, and explains to her all the things that he never told her while they were courting. Devin asks her to reach out to his twin brother, Darin, to have contact with the Andersen family. After all, Isabella, Carlita and Devin's daughter, deserves to know not only her half brother but the entire Andersen clan.

In sandpiper Dreams we met Carlita our female lead. Se is dealing with the loss of her first love named Devin Anderson. He has abandoned Carlita and left her broken hearted.

As this story unfolds before us and Carlita grows into a beautiful and strong woman. We also see her daughter grow up. We also soon learn that Devin isn’t who he says he is and has many dark secrets. Through all this we see Carlita make a life for herself and her daughter. She also finds love again in an unlikely place.

Over all I found this book to be very good. Even though I had not read the first book I was able to follow along and get a feel for the characters. It was well written and held my attention through out. I would definitely recommend this as a good read.
