From Kamery Solomon, #1 bestselling genre author and creator of the bestselling series The God Chronicles, comes SWEPT AWAY, a time travel romance fraught with danger and secrets on the high seas!

Dead men tell no tales...

For more than 200 years, the Treasure Pit on Oak Isle has baffled treasure hunters, engineers, and the common man alike. When Samantha Greene arrives, she finds her estranged father has spent years funneling energy and finances into the endeavor, finding nothing.

When an accidental death occurs in the pit, fulfilling the prophecy that seven lives must end before the treasure can be found, the search kicks into high gear, with more than one party vying for the secrets that lie below. Finding herself the closest to the treasure anyone has ever been, Samantha throws herself into the work, landing among the coveted prize. Just as she's about to discover what's truly hidden beneath the island, the pit begins to flood with ocean water, sweeping her away despite her attempts to swim to the surface.

Upon awaking, Samantha discovers that, not only did she not drown, but the year is 1695—one hundred years before the Treasure Pit was even discovered. Carried off by the pirate Tristan O'Rourke, a rouge Irishman with more than his share of secrets, she soon finds that there is much more than she realized in play. Will she discover the secrets of Oak Isle, or will an unexpected love keep her from finding out the truth? Will she ever make it back to her own time? Perhaps the real question is this; will she want to?

When I saw the description indicating that this book was described as a cross between Pirates of the Caribbean and Outlander, I was in! And what a fun ride it was!

The story opens in modern times with Samantha on her way to meet her estranged treasure hunter father after her mom's death. Although she doesn't quite believe in his work, she finds herself getting caught up in the excitement and eventually joining the hunt too. When a rival treasure seeker pulls out all the stops to try to take over the Pit and succeeds, Sam makes one last ditch effort to find something real before being kicked off the site. And oh boy does she get more than she bargains for!

After nearly drowning, she awakens on the beach of Oak Island surrounded by men in period costume and a replica pirate ship anchored in the cove. Distressed, she quickly realizes those are no costumes and the ship is all too real but she has no idea how or why she is waking up in 1695 instead of 2015. Her only savior is the ship's 2nd in command Tristan O'Rourke but there is only so much be can do to protect her from the mean drunk of a captain. Tristan offers her his own cabin while she is onboard, finding her clothes and food, and generally acting as her protector. The more they talk, the more he realizes there is something different about her and she starts to realize he is no ordinary pirate. When the time comes to part ways, Tristan tries to send her to the safety of a relative's home but Sam has other ideas. Granted even she acknowledges it is one of the worst ideas she has had, but she tries to sneak onto and hide on a merchant ship bound for America. A priest sees her and takes her onboard with him, and she finds a friend in Father Torres who helps her hide her identity.

Of course Tristan pops back into her life and she finds herself once again back aboard his ship but disguised as a boy this time. She begins to learn Tristan's secrets and she shares some of hers with him as they both try and fail to fight the attraction between them. But the question remains: how does she get back to 2015, and more importantly, does she want to?

There are colorful scenes throughout this story with sea battles, interesting ports, shipboard gossip and personality clashes. Along the way Sam and Tristan find themselves in each other with a heartfelt connection that leaps off the page. Danger is never far away between threats to Sam's wellbeing in the forms of the captain and ship to ship battles and to Tristan's mission in the form of a disgruntled crew member. Although this is a standalone read, there is easily more story waiting to be told based on the way Swept Away ends and I an hoping that story finds its way to us soon! If you love a good adventure with a great love story, grab yourself a copy of this book today.

For real, what did I just read?
Since the beginning, this book was a complete mess. In between the pirates, romance, time travel, templars, greek gods, betrayal, etc... I really didn't felt like I read any story at all. I got the sensation that after 365 pages I still wasn't understanding anything. First, we are in the present then we time-traveled to the past, some months later we are over there and some other months later we are back to where we began. And I know some action happened in between all that, but with the cringy plot and the completely horrible, boring, and unnecessary insta-love, I wasn't able to focus on that. Overall the plot was everywhere without actually telling you something. The only good thing I can say right now is that this book is an incredible page-turner, cause even if you don't understand anything you still pass the pages looking for something that actually has sense. This is so disappointing because I really love time travel books, who would have said it was so difficult to find a decent one. But lucky me, this book was free on kindle and I didn't spend a single coin of my money to read this. Nothing else to say, but I definitely don't recommend this to anyone.

The protagonist, Samantha Greene, helps her father excavate the Treasure Pit on Oak Isle, and, in the process, travels back in time to the 17th century. She finds herself rescued/abducted by pirates, disguised as a man to be part of the pirate crew, and, finally, engaged in a mission to protect Templar secrets. Along the way, she meets, and falls in love with, pirate Tristan O'Rourke. Does she stay in the past to be with him or travel back to her present to the life, and time, she knows?

I really wanted to like this book, and I did, at times. Unfortunately, the setup was too long and mostly unnecessary, and the end felt unfinished. If it was left on a cliffhanger for a sequel, I'm surprised there is no mention of a sequel anywhere.

The tension between Samantha and Tristan was great, and I liked their relationship...except when they were together. There seemed to be a big build-up that didn't really go anywhere, at least on the page, and, while I understand the reasoning in their big "fight," it didn't exactly work for me. It seemed a bit childish and took longer to resolve than it should have. And, once it was resolved, it was glossed right over. My biggest complaint, though, is that there were too many things going on: time travel, pirates, Templar Knights, Greek gods, ancient artifacts, treatment of women, cross-dressing/disguise, loss of parents... I'm not easily confused, but I still don't fully understand the logistics of the Treasure Pit or how the vase works.

Overall, I liked the book. There aren't many (new) pirate romances available, especially ones with time-travel, so it definitely fills that hole. To say that it is Outlander meets The Pirates of the Caribbean, though, is a bit of a stretch.

I didn't care for this time-travel/treasure hunt/love story/pirate adventure. It had some interesting elements but it all just didn't gel.

The Samantha and Tristan love story was unconvincing, and honestly Samantha was an annoying character. Many of the scenes of pirate battles were quite violent and gory. There was a lot of talk about a booby-trapped treasure pit at Oak Island that didn't make much sense to me; plus the Knights Templar figured heavily in the story. My brain just seizes up when the Knights Templar make an appearance in a book I’m reading, which happens with surprising frequency. I don't really understand what they were all about and I just don't find the subject interesting enough to research it.

So anyway, there was an obvious cliffhanger/seque into the next one but I won't be continuing with the series.

Pirates? Yes. Time traveling? Yes.

The beginning was painfully slow, I slightly had to force myself to get over it. I understand that the author had to show us the backstory of Samantha, but she could have skipped some parts. It would make sense even without them.

The protagonist, Samantha Greene, after her mother's death, travels to meet and later on help her treasure hunter father explore the Treasure Pit on Oak Isle. In the process, she travels back in time to the 17th century. She ends up on a pirate ship, Adelina, where her journey begins. As the story evolves she falls in love with Tristan O'Rourke, a rouge Irishman who is more than it seems and hides lots of secrets. Will she stay with him or travel back in time, home?

The only character that got my attention fully was Padre Torres, he was a gem for me in this book.

This book has so many twists and turns that you will either keep reading or.. keep reading. ;)
The story was good and the characters were all right as well, the only thing that bothered me were the typos that were slightly distracting me sometimes.

Also, Greek Gods? OH WHY..!?

Never have I read (or tried reading, to be more precise) a book that said so little on so many pages. No matter what was said, it was glossed over without any depth or substance.

It felt as if the writer did no research whatsoever about the time she wrote about; none of the characters found Sam's weird language or expressions mysterious. On the contrary, the understood it all. Let me put it in words;

Sam: I'm just you regular next door girl, I'm not phased by all these cultural differences, you unwashed men.

Tristan: Arrrr, aye lassie, shiver me timbers.

I mean really.

I tried really hard to like this book, but halfway through I had to stop reading simply because my eyes were about to roll out of my head. If I can't find myself caring for any of the characters after so many pages, it's really not worth it.

This book is overwhelming.

Solomon tries to do a lot. Very little ends up done well. Time travel, pirates, knights Templar, treasure, Greek gods... And that's in addition to all the backstory and romance. Oh and of course there's more than one villain.

The story is good, though at times Sam is TSTL. This book probably wins the award for "most people to know the heroine has time traveled" because whoa boy did a lot of people end up knowing. I did appreciate her cursing her English major and wishing she had some other, more relevant degree.

I'm rating this a five for a few reasons. It was very difficult for me to feel hooked at the beginning of this book, but once things picked up, I was....swept away.

Tristan? Swoon. More love interests like this, please and thank you. Wonderful relationship dynamic and development, as well as a fast-paced plot that kept me reading until far past when I should have been sleeping on more than one occasion. I won't soon be forgetting this one, though the ending really snuck up on me -- I wasn't expecting it to end so soon! I am so ready for more.

"Ooooh! a time travel book!" *grabby hands*

"Yeah, but wait, it's a Romance" *ugh*.

"But....TIME TRAVEL!"

....."Romance".

What to do, what to do?

I MIGHT like it...might not - all depending on how Romancey the romance part is.

"Hey! the Kindle version is FREE!"

3/5

As far as kindle freebies go, this is one the of the betters ones out there. It has a good pace, decent writing, and doesn't end on a ridiculous cliff hanger that would force you to pay for the next installment to see what's happening.

Swept Away plays into one of my favorite urban folklore/fantasy tropes: The Curse of/The Tale of Oak Island. Our protagonist, Samantha, gets sucked into the world of Oak Island and its mysteries following the death of her mother. When working on the infamous Treasure Pit, Samantha gets "swept away" (see what I did there) back ~300 years to the origins of the Pit. Solomon has provided her version of answers to the mystery of Oak Island in a fun, pirate adventure that has a bit a romance in it.

As far as time travel romance goes, the following tropes are included:
- roguish, yet kind man
- independent woman that keeps her modern values in the past
- marriage of convenience
- gender bending/gender swap (costumes, at least)

However, I gave the novel a 3/5 because there are two plot points that DROVE ME CRAZY and I thought had absolutely no place being there. The witch's hallucination/drug induced hallucination AND the whole greek gods influence/power elixir thing. Just ridiculous. .

Fun beach read, but I don't think I will pick up the rest of the series.

I loved this book! I enjoyed the many different elements interwoven. I read a lot of free kindle time travel historical novels and most of them are pretty predictable at this point. This book, however, was not. The only thing I was sure of was the love interests reuniting but I wasn't quite sure how. It came together very well. I liked the twists and turns this novel utilized. For me, I know this is a good book when I would be willing to purchase it. I will be saving my Amazon credits to purchase book 2. One of the unique parts of this book was the length of the intro, it gave a lot of character development to the main character to show transition. Toward the end of the first part, it did gloss over a bit before the time travel part. I do so love the love story. If someone has not personally experienced a love like that, they would have a challenging time relating. Although this is a historical romance/time travel book, it is also an adventure story. Keep up the great writing! Thank you for this lovely story.

A delightful time travel romance

This wonderful time travel story is built around The Treasure Pit on Oak Isle.

Samantha Greene's father left when she was a small child to devote his time, money and effort to digging to the bottom of The Treasure Pit on Oak Isle. When Samantha's mother dies, she directs in her Will that Samantha go to her father so they can scatter her ashes together.

While Sam is there, she is bitten by the treasure bug and helps deepen the pit. One night she is in the pit alone and does something that causes the pit to flood. When she regains consciousness, she has been fished out the ocean and is in a pirate ship in 1695.

This is Book 1 of a promising series.

This book definitely had a lot going on. I really liked the historical time travel aspect of it and the relationship between Sam and Tristan (Did anyone think Outlander vibes?). I feel like the author put too many genres in the story that made it seem too convoluted. I was on board with the pirates and the buried treasure but when Sam was taken back to 1695, the Knights Templar became a big role and then greek mythology with Zeus and Pandora's Box. It was a little too much genre and history mixing for me. I probably will read the next book in the series to follow the pirate hunt and see Sam and Tristan's relationship develop but might not continue the series.

Pretty fun read but was just lacking in some parts for me

While I really did love the setting of the story and I do want to watch the History channel show about Oak Island now the book was just packing for me when it came to some of the other elements mainly the romance the first half of the book has the two protagonists interacting but not enough for to read to me as epic romance.

Even though I did enjoy this for the action which I will say is written extremely well I just don't see myself finishing this series.

Living in History

This is a fascinating story about how Samantha was helping her father in a dig in Oak Isle. She stumbles on a skeleton and does something that causes a flood in the private is searching. She is overcome with flooding and cannot breathe. Seemingly a second later she awakes in a land of pirates and says of yesteryear. The adventures that happen next are unbelievable and will keep you reading fast.

This book is weirdly paced, the story is not particularly engaging, there's a bit of Insta love, and a few plot points that I couldn't get on board with.
Could also do with some serious editing. Mistakes occurred too frequently and jarred me out of a story that I was already struggling to engage with. Did not finish at 40%

This book was so amazing, I couldn't put it down and read it in one sitting! Hands down, this is now one of my favorite books. I didn't know what to expect, as I had picked a book to read at random, thinking it was about mermaids. Treasure hunting! Time-travel! Pirates! Knights! Adventure! Action! Romance! Ugh, swoon. It has a Pirates of the Caribbean vibe that I loved, with an exciting and unexpected twist.

In the year 2015 Sam, short for Samantha, loses her beloved mother to cancer and flies from Arizona to Maine to spread her mother's ashes with her "crazy" father who had run off when Sam was just a little girl, to dig for treasure in The Treasure Pit on Oak Isle. The Treasure Pit was discovered hundreds of years ago by children who noticed a sinking in the ground, and the locals assumed it could only be pirates buried treasure, so treasure hunters from all over flocked to dig the pit. What was discovered proved to affirm their beliefs, for only a pirate would go to such great lengths to hide something with layer upon layer of rock for hundreds of feet, flooding systems connecting to the sea, and deadly booby traps.

She quickly becomes entranced with the mysteries of the pit, staying with her father on the island longer than intended, feeling in her bones that they were on the brink of a grand discovery. Sam's father had finally found a way to work past the flood system and drain it faster than it filled, enabling their crew to descend deeper than ever before. However, there was a fatal explosion costing him his life that day, leaving Sam an orphan determined to carry on her father's legacy. Shortly afterward, a rival treasure hunter who had been after her father for years undermined Sam and her crew, sharking the land rights out from under them. Desperate to make the discovery before him in respect for her father's life work, she descended into the pit one night with nothing but a shovel and some glow sticks to light her way, and dug away at the rotted wood, exposing a room.

Read further if you don't mind spoilers.

I won't explain much of the story from here because it would ruin it, and this book is SO DAMN GOOD, you definitely want to be surprised. The writing, setting, history, characters, relationships, secrets, action - everything is delicious. I'm impatient to continue reading the rest of this series. If you enjoy time-travel, pirates, treasure hunting, romance, action - read this book, like now!

Gah!!!!

This is hard to rate. I realllllly liked it until about 60% in, and then it became a chore to read. I’ll explain.

I’ve probably had this on my phone for 2 years, but I didn’t move past the prologue because it felt like it was going to be wordy. I’m so glad I finally decided to read it, but I’m disappointed at the character arc of Samantha. Since she’s the main character, it’s kind of hard to get past.

The beginning is slow and a little tedious, and honestly, you don’t learn much or see any major character development. I wish there had been more of her and her father.

I liked Samantha for the most part - at least until 60% in when she started acting TSTL and like the first half of the book never happened. One of my major pet peeves in a story, I mean one thing I just cannot get past as a reader, is when a character endures all manner of major, life-changing trauma like the loss of both parents in the same year under the age of 25, time traveling, surviving a sexual assault, surviving physical abuse, killing people - ummm...you get the picture - and then is just ok? DRIVES.ME.NUTS.

I know it’s fiction, but I want to see a person on the page, not a character. Samantha only feels real to me a handful of times in the whole book.

1. she talks to her mom/urn
2. the ship goes on its first “hunt” and she’s terrified below deck
3. the entire sexual assault scene

That’s it.

The rest of the time, she feels like how a person in this kind of story is supposed to act. She’s supposed to become swashbuckling, fearless, and strong, murdering men with the best of them and feeling nothing in general except love for her pirate crush. There’s no fallout afterwards. The only time she even feels bad about not feeling bad over murder is the one time it’s totally ok to WISH DEATH ON THE DUDE THAT TRIED TO RAPE YOU. And she didn’t even kill that guy!

I don’t know why her argument about being equal bothered me so much, but I think it’s because Tristan never treated her like a typical man (especially pirate!) of the time would have. He was decent and kind. He protected her from the beginning because she needed it. I don’t think that makes Tristan sexist or Samantha weak, but that’s just me. It seemed fitting for the time period and storyline.

And another thing - strength isn’t being stubborn. It’s one of the worst tropes out there and I’m over it. Technically, the only reason they survived the sinking ship is BECAUSE Tristan tossed her out on the longboat. If that longboat hadn’t been on the water, the survivors wouldn’t have had a boat to escape on, so it kind of worked out.

But Samantha - who wasn’t bothered at all by the constant murder of blue collar 17th century shipmen on merchant ships - was apparently so strong and powerful with her minimal sword/knife skills and lack of moral compass that she had the right to throw a hissy fit about not being able to murder more.

All in all, I did like the book. The Knights Templar are awesome and I liked the weaving in of mythology. I felt like there was so much done really well, but Samantha’s general inconsistency and silly freak out causing the big “fight” seemed so childish that it pulled me out of the story and I never fully recovered my interest.

This book is well written. I managed to read it whole. It starts off in the present and it starts off well. The author examines relationships in a family that experienced a divorce 15 years ago. She shows the mother's, father's and daughter's perspective and reveals their mutual feelings. She also lets the main protagonist experience other critical points like a parent's terminal illness and the death of both parents. The author deals with all these big themes with sensitively. The time traveling business seems to be well handled. (Through magical powers of an old vase that was buried under the ground for hundreds of years and belonged to gods) However, when the main character gets into the past, the reader is confronted with one stereotypical character after another: pirates on a ship, an exemplary bad guy vs. a flawless good guy saving a lady...The only character who spiced things up was the humorous "padre." The story revolves around Knight Templars' treasure and that's a really unique twist in a time travel novel. The most interesting part for me is the moment when the main male character embraces 17th century perception of women and the 21st century female character feels betrayed. "I have proved myself so many times it seems, and yet, you are still looking at me as the helpless little girl washed up on the beach." The reason I gave this book only two stars is that the story did not quite draw me in. I missed a better focus on the romantic relationship in the story. I had a feeling it was rather shallow.

Great Book!
This is a great book! This book has it all a wonderful romance, mystery, and time travel. The author Kamery Solomon did a fantastic job with this book. Once I started reading it I couldn't stop reading it until I was finished. Samantha is not close to her father because when she was growing up he spent all of time looking for buried treasure. Her mother’s dying wish was for Samantha and her father to have a relationship with each other. Once she visits her father he asks her to stay so they can get to know each other. Samantha can’t help but get pulled into the possibilities of finding this buried treasure in the treasure pit on Oak Isle. Samantha ends up finding a box in the treasure pit and once she touches a vase inside the box she finds herself drowning in the water that is filling the pit. She awakens to find a sexy pirate above her and soon realizes that she has somehow traveled through time and is now on board a pirate ship. This book has so many twists and turns that will keep you reading all night long. I love the characters and the mystery. The author does a fantastic job weaving every part in this story that will leave you wanting more. Some characters had me rooting for them and others I wanted to see drown in the ocean. I sure hope that the author does another book in this series. I highly recommend this book!

5 Stars *********** (or more)
Marvelous, wonderful, awe-inspiring; these are just a few words to describe just a fraction of the awesomeness that is this book. Kamery Solomon has out done herself; this is her best book so far.
In this book, Samantha goes to visit her father to fulfill a wish by her late mother. Her father is a declared treasure hunter that is spending his life and money on this one endeavor that has yet to produce any treasure. As Sam stays with her father to try to have a relationship, she learns more and more about her father and his mission at the treasure pit on Oak Isle. It becomes addicting to her to help her father and to find what is at the bottom of the pit. But something spectacular happens and Sam finds herself out of her element and without a clue on what to do. This is the time that she meets Tristan O’Rourke. Mr. Tristan “Swoonworthy-sexy-want-to-have-all-to-yourself-and-never-give-up” O’Rourke.
This book is beautifully written. You will get pulled into this book and not want to stop. Even when the book is over you will want more. This story does not end in a cliffhanger but you will still wish there were more chapters to read. The characters are well developed, and the plot has the perfect amount of twists and turns that you will fall in love (with the story and with Tristan). I would highly recommend this book to every and anyone.

Like potato chips

This book reminded me of a bag of potato chips. This is a fairly routine historical romance, mixed with a somewhat superficial time travel thread and a pretty good adventure story. But... I can't stop reading it. Just like potato chips, when you know that they're not good for you, you know you shouldn't have another chip, and yet you keep reaching in the bag. So I kept thinking, just one more page, just one more chapter, just one more book... And let the record show that yes I did in fact buy the sequel to this novel. I just had to know what happened next! And from what I've seen of the teaser chapters of other books, this isn't the only series by this author that has that effect. I just can't explain it. I mean, there are parts of this book that are just simply outlandish. And then... there are truly touching moments, for example when the hero rests his forehead against the heroine's. A simple thing, and yet so sweet. But whilethe characters were interesting, I wasn't really engaged with them. Still, I had to know what happened next and, when I found out, it seemed to fit in okay with the rest of the book. So I don't know how to explain it, except to say that if you like potato chips, and you find it hard to stop with just one, you'll probably love this book as much as I do.
