Jamie Gregory’s self-illustrated comedy fantasy novel for readers aged 7+ (the first in a series) has some laugh out loud moments (especially due to Mort’s outrage at Demise’s comments about him) that the illustrations really enhance. That said, the humour does get a bit samey towards the end and I hope that Gregory can switch gears in future books, especially as there’s plenty of scope here for Demise and Mort to have more misadventures.

This is loads of fun! I love a diary style book. Even better when it’s a bit of mythology, gorgeous illustrations, a really funny dual narrator style and brilliantly readable. If you’re after something that’s going to make you laugh, give this a crack!!

I read this book with my 10 year old son and we could not stop laughing! It's a really fun easy read, diary style with fun illustrations.

We're very much looking forward to the next installment and hopefully more antics from Demise!!
