There's a bad moon on the rise for Abby Craig. Nothing is as it seems. And it's going to take more than Southern hospitality to survive the night. A lot more.
Jools Sinclair lives and writes in the in-between world of Bend, Oregon, where sunlight kisses snow, mountains reach for the desert, and long summer days cascade into night. She watches it all, perched atop her butte, with her giant orange cat.
This series seriously took a turn for the ridiculous and boring after Abby went on the run. She should've stopped after book 10. This was so bad that kept skipping ahead until it was the end. I used to love this series. It was always pretty hokey but it was always entertaining. I have to finish out the series because I'm compulsive but I can't imagine it's going to have an interesting ending.
This is almost a filler book - more about Abby's personal growth than moving the storyline. But it was good to get back to strong Abby. And finding out that the next book would be the last ... it's kind of like the calm before the storm.
Having long loved the 44 series I have been worried that the further on we get with these books it could begin to feel watered down or like the author was struggling for ideas but thankfully I have found that I have continued to love these stories and the latest offering continues this trend. The author manages to bring a character you have been on many journeys with and thanks to good character development you truly are rooting for her to have a great outcome in life so as the latest book continues to see her going through more twists and turns on her journey it is great that I continue to find myself drawn in and wanting more.
A great author and another great book in the 44 series. Check out her work.
This is book 12 is this series. These are usually pretty quick reads for me, but I absolutely love them! The author does a great job keeping you on edge of your seat.
Abby Craig was in a car crash and was dead for 44 minutes…she now sees ghosts and has been helping them. In order to understand everything you’ll need to read the first 11, so if you haven’t, there will be spoilers in this review…you’ve been warned!
Jesse is Abby’s best friend and was in the accident with her, unfortunately, he wasn’t as lucky as her and died. It took her until the end of book 1 to realize this, because she can see ghosts but didn’t realize it at first so she didn’t think anything of it.
“Did you ever spend much time in yours?” I asked. “Your coffin?” “Not a second. I just stood next to my dad, trying to tell him I was all right. But he couldn’t hear me.” “I’m sorry I wasn’t there,” I said. “You didn’t miss much. Besides you were still in the hospital and under the impression I was alive, remember?” “I remember,” I said. “That was very special, what you did. Not telling me until I was ready.” “Don’t mention it.” I went over and kissed him on the cheek.
We met the Mortimer brothers earlier in the series…they are actually a pretty big, and important part. Nathaniel is crazy…he died, but never moved on, then he took over his brother Ben’s body. Nathaniel ended up killing Ben, but since he’s a ghost and no one can see him Abby gets blamed, so she runs to avoid murder charges.
Abby has/had this great amazing boyfriend/fiancé Ty, he even understood all the ghost stuff. When she ran because the murder charges he was crushed. She misses him, but is afraid he hates her but she still loves him. We get to kind of hear how he’s doing when she talks to David (one of her besties)!
“How’s Ty doing?” There was a long pause. “Do you want me to tell you the truth or should I just lie?” My heart dropped hard like a watermelon falling off the back of a truck. “Is he bad?” “Girlfriend, you were the love of his life. He’s not good, I’ll tell you that much. But I think he’s getting better. Man, if Sista Kate knew I was telling you…” “Telling me what?” “Well, really, there’s not much to tell. Except that…” “Except what?” “He’s gone, Abby Craig. He’s back in Montana.” I didn’t know why it hurt hearing that, but it did. “He’s been in bad shape since you left. I mean, beyond bad shape. He even managed to get himself fired.”
We met Samael a few books back, he told Abby he’s a fallen Angel who is trying to atone for his sins. After book 11 we still aren’t sure if he’s good or bad, he just comes and goes but does seem to be helping Abby get ready for her final show down with Nathaniel. This book is about her trying to get better physically, mentally, and spiritually.
At the very end she has a vision of Samael with a demon, kissing his hand…hmm maybe he isn’t good at all…I guess we’ll have to see in the series final book 13…
"An icy shiver passed through me as I realized who it was that Samael was kneeling before. A spirit even darker than Nathaniel. The darkest of them all. The original fallen angel. Lucifer."
I have loved all these books, and I highly recommend this series!!
Craigers! I have missed you. Must have been some psychic connection because it was just a week or so ago when I went onto Amazon to see if perhaps I'd missed a notification from Sinclair. I was hoping to see #12, but no such luck. Fortunately, I got an email notification just the other day and immediately 1-clicked it.
So how do I feel about this latest in the series? Loved it of course! Father Carmichael and Samael are the primary supporting characters in this one, though we hear from big sister and one of my favorite characters ever, David. He's such a Hoot! What about the "men" in her life? Well gorgeous ]essie is around to support her, poor Ty is in a really bad place and that darn Nathaniel is constantly creeping around!
Escaping the chile fields as the cops approached, Abby Craig is now tucked away safely at a monastery in the oppressively warm and humid New Orleans area. Her task is to regain her strength, both physically and spiritually, because when he comes for her the battle will have importance beyond her own mortal soul. Nathaniel and his ghouls with white eyes are coming for her. She turns to running to train her physical self, meditation and reading books recommended by Samael for the rest. Of course, there are ghosts to contend with and a mysterious man of the collar with dark, bloody secrets. She must conquer the obvious obstacles and the more difficult, unseen obstacles to prepare for the epic battle to come.
Jools Sinclair hit the ball out of the park with this one. Kept me on the edge, couldn't put it down until I finished it. Good thing I didn't have to work today. I've followed the 44 series since my daughter gave me the first book. Yes book. Now with the e-reader I can just buy book after book. Don't know if that's a good thing but..... if your a lover of paranormal, mystery, a little bit of heart warming love then this is the series for you. Jessie and Abbey teenage friends take a wrong turn that will never end or be forgotten. Abbey can't let go of Jessie even tho her heart loves Ty. But the ghost or spirit that wants Abbey won't let her go won't let her live in peace. She is now at the place in her life where it's do or die and maybe both. Nathaniel is waiting is she ready. Abbey hopes to God she is.
Jools Sinclair please hurry with book 13. I can't wait to see what happens next. Thank you for giving me Abbey and all her family and friends. Y
It says a lot about the quality of the writing that I have been worrying about Abby since the last book. At least in this book she is recovering physically and emotionally from what happened and is getting ready to fight. It feels like some breathing space for the reader too while we prepare for the series to end. Abby does what she does best and her powers continue to grow. The suggested solution to clear Abby's name seems a bit weak but if I am suspending disbelief in general to get into this story then I guess I can go with it. My only complaint is that it was far too short. This series is like your favourite chocolate, you try to savour it but can't help reading it too fast to find out what happens. I can hardly wait to the last book but at the same time I will be sad that it is over. Highly entertaining and enjoyable.
I almost stopped after the first one. I not a fan of high school angst even wrapped up with a paranormal ribbon. I am so glad I didn't. This series is so much more
I am a huge fan of the 44 series. Book 12 was another great addition to the story of Abby and her unpleasant circumstance. Book 12 felt a little shorter than others, but I couldn't put it down. My dad and I have faithfully followed the story and are going to be sad when it comes to a close. We've googled the Bend and think we'll drive through one of these days. I recommend this book and this series to anyone and everyone!
I love the Forty-Four series. Jools does a great job of getting us involved in "Craigers!" Even knowing that there would be one more book, I was holding my breath at the end of the twelfth book. I've been thinking a lot about how Abby's going to save the world and what kind of spectacular end Jool's will weave. Really excited about the experience and will be sad to say good-bye to "Abby Craig".
I love these series!!!! It's written to where at the end ur on the edge of your seat wanting more. She has written so well that I feel I'm inside the book. Can't wait till book 13 but sad at the last one. I will miss Jesse and Abby!
I love that this series has 12 (13 coming soon) books. I hate that it is coming to an end. It feels like a part of my life if leaving with it :( I really hope Abby ends up with Ty. And she doesn't die.....
I have read EVERY book in the series and I'm just more and more impressed, even when I thought they couldn't get any better! Simply amazing. The Abby Craig story is not your average mystery. It's so much better! Thanks Jools for keeping the story interesting. You ROCK!
Fourth Four-book 12 was as fantastic as the first 11. Gripping and fast paced. I am sorry to hear of the end of the series but I am anxiously awaiting whatever Ms. Sinclair will write next. A great read.
This was as great continuation of this series. Cannot believe there's only one more! I'll missed these characters when they are no longer taking me through the twists and turns!
I found this series by chance. I started with book one in 3 days I read them all. Abby and her "family" became real in my imagination. I hated to stop reading. They are quick, easy but most of all exciting and entertaining.
Again! Amazing, spellbinding a book / books they are so hard to put down. You always want to find out more...........Keep reading. The whole series is the best!
