WTF another one of these? Seriously. So whose POV is this one going to be the dog's, the bratty kids, the cafeteria lady who has to witness Travis trying to get his Troy on?
I honestly don't care. Since it will obviously be some variant on the same shitty story.
I can never get enough of Maddox. It left me wanting more. For those of you who wants to read the novella. This is the link via the authors website. Enjoy http://www.jamiemcguire.com/blog/2013...
“Perfection takes time.” “If you saw yourself in the morning, you would know that's not true.”
This was way to freaking short! Seriously though just 5 pages 😭? It was a complete and utter tease lol. There wasn't enough Travis Maddox, but when is there ever?! That being said it was very sweet and just another reminder as to why we all love this couple so damn much. Especially Travis!!! Always Travis! Although I'm kinda annoyed, Travis's gift was so thoughtful and perfect but we didn't even find out what Abby got him...
“It doesn't matter what it is, Pigeon. You've already given me everything I've ever wanted.”
When I saw that this was out and I had missed it for almost a year, I was a little mad at myself! I have to say...I love Abby and Travis! They changed my mind about contemporary romance and opened my eyes to this amazing genre and to this amazing author. And then once I was able to find it online to read, I was so freaking excited!
My only complaint with this story is that it is short and it leaves me with a question at the end. I really wanted to story to continue...
But...I loved it! I am a sucker for love and romance. Travis is so sweet with his rough edges that I can't help but simply swoon every time he does something so sweet for Abby.
The beginning was a little slow, but a back story was needed since it takes place a year into their marriage. I was happy to learn about parts of their life and that they are making their marriage work.
By the end I was teary at how sweet and wonderful this story was!
Any book/whatever you wanna call it, that has Travis Maddox in it, I'm game for! I love that Jamie McGuire is giving us snippets of their life after the conclusion of Beautiful Disaster. Even if it's only 9 pages..it's still better than nothing!
“Pigeon,” Travis said, almost the same time as he said the word in my memory.“This is where it all started.Where I saw you for the first time."
This story takes place 1 year after they've been married. It also takes place on Valentine's Day. Of course Travis being the awesome guy he is gets the perfect gift for Pidgeon!
~
Beautiful Disaster has always stuck with me. There's something about it that puts it so far above other books, and I'm betting nothing will compare for a long time. This "epilogue" just puts the icing on the cake. Also, what an adorable gift!! I want a charm bracelet from Travis Maddox.
“There’s room for more charms. These are just the beginning of our story, Pidge.”
0 OMG! I totally hated this book I literally struggled to get through and it's way too short so NONONO! This whole thing about them getting marriage in COLLEGE! not seniors by the way, and that suddenly way out if nowhere the main books all of that are literally bullshit, with that being said: They say they are financial struggling so why get freaking married? Whatever they do illegal things yeah! ILLEGAL THINGS! Why? Because and I quote "get better payment"... They have a reservation so he's like C'mon it's getting late (hurrying her up) and when they arrive they realized it's full like where are we going to eat? But I was like didn't you guys get reservations? And you must know because that restaurant is so popular that it should be so crowded well, he's like fuck up! We're leaving WTF? So they leave and go to OMG! A freaking burned place where the illegal fights where? Why just why? And he planned to do that why don't just go straight there without having to go to the restaurant? Well they don't care so much about gas I think He kind of decorated the place but C'mon a burned and illegal place to your first Valentine's Day? Uhm... Well he gave him a bracelet (so original) and that's basically it I would read it again? No totally trash!
And when a Maddox boy falls in love, he loves forever.
Queridos Travis y Abby:
More Abby & Travis!! How in the hell does McGuire makes me feel so much emotions in 3-4 pages?? I thought I was better than that! But I loved the Valentine's Day story... and Travis!!!
You know how I felt while reading the story? Like I didn't sign up for this, it's just a few pages long but nearly half of the book is about how Abbey is getting ready and some boring stuff about America and Shepley, I don't think a 'Valentine's Day from Abby's POV' should consist these thing. Oh, and here comes my favorite part:
I smiled. Coordinating our school schedules made it easier to carpool and to study, but I wasn’t clueless. Putting a ring on my finger let Travis relax some, but he hadn’t done a total one-eighty. Any passes made at me were few and far between, but Travis was Travis, and whatever respect he demanded toward me as his friend, and later his girlfriend, was tenfold as his wife.
I mean I guess it's totally okay that your husband wouldn't even let you go to class alone... it's not controlling not a least bit... it's kind of cute on some levels... yeah, definitely cute!
Travis gets home, a bit talking about the dress then they're ready to go! I was still waiting for the cute romance to kick in but as they sit down at the restaurant Travis decides it isn't good enough so he takes Abby to the place where they first met at Travis's fight. Romantic, huh? Not so much.
Now I would have accepted this if Travis had had the idea and I don't know just made the place a bit more romantic somehow... with blankets or candles or anything dammit. But bring Abby down there without anything...
Okay, so I thought maybe either Abby or Travis will say something adorable, at this point I wouldn't minded even the cheesiest thing because anything was better than this mess.
And then... Travis speaks:
"Where I saw you for the first time. When you turned my whole fucking world upside down"
"my fucking world" because he can't go without cursing even for the time of his great monologue in which he tells Abby how much he's loved her from the very first moment.
“For the time we spent apart. The darkest time of my life.”
Okay, fine that was kind of cute...
But at this point there was no going back to good-bookland (or even acceptable-bookland).
This was a pretty short read, probably no more than ten minutes max for the time that it took me, so I figured I'd reflect about it since it was a story that I saw linked to on its book page - I didn't realize this was a short story on a blog post, not a major release - so basically I changed my mind about reading it and dived in.
This was a read that left me neutral about it, and so I gave it a neutral rating. If I'm being technical, there are a few grammatical errors (you for "you're"), but nothing too major.
A year after Travis and Abby are married, Abby's preparing for a night out with Travis once he comes home from work. Abby has a brief convo with America over the phone, catching up with life details. It's more of a slice-of-life story that's supposed to showcase Travis and Abby's married life. It technically takes place after the events of "A Beautiful Wedding" if you're keeping up with the story timeline, so Travis doesn't fight anymore - they're not rolling in the big money since the club shut down, so they're living the way of normal with student loans and such (*rolls eyes* Welcome to the real world). For the most part, the character construction is consistent. Motivation, even in this short piece, is still a problem. One thing that bothered me was the note that Travis demands respect from Abby "10x" more since they are married - I wasn't sure what to take with the inclusion of that statement. It also bothered me that Abby had to get off the phone so fast with America because Travis would be home any moment.
But then I wondered - was that because she was eager to greet him, or is it that Travis possesses her just that much for control? Would he be mad at Abby for talking to America on the phone if he caught her? That really shouldn't have been an issue, and I'm not sure what to take from that detail. The ambiguity in the narrative gave me pause.
The rest of the story shows them going to a party and reflecting on past scenes that were in the original novel, where they met, when they were separated, etc. It's supposed to be nostalgic, but it didn't really do much for me personally. Fans of the series might find more value in it than I did.
This was a short 5 page story that takes place almost a year after they're married on Valentine's Day. It kind of updates you as to what they have been up to and shows Travis's romantic side. My only complaint is I wish it was longer. Can't ever get enough Travis! :)
-Nothing about today would be rushed. I would savor every moment with my husband.
