I would like to say that this book is be on terrible. I feel like a high school freshman wrote this in his creative writing class. I don't know how in the world is booked up publish. Thankfully, I'm able to read it for free. I would not pay two cents for this book. Great ideas but very poorly executed. Everything is too jumbled up and everything happened way too fast. Besides, half of it doesn't even make any sense. That a prophecy which in itself is typical. You also have a guardian who is supposed to protect this person a prophecy. The Guardian is taken away from her mother to be trained as an assassin my persons who are physically abusive. I'm top of all that, when the assassin finally meet her mother, she has no idea that this is her mother I know it seems you're paying attention or catching the clothes that these two are both related. I'm sorry, this book is really terrible. I can't even finish it

4/29 Finished the first book and it seems to seamlessly continue into the second. I liked it a lot but had a couple of questions. Athel had a group of soldiers that answered only to her. Did she just desert them to her crazy father when she switched allegiance to the Gate Keeper? How did the Queen know that Jade was chosen to protect the Gate Keeper? That was never addressed. Eric certainly seemed to handle the demon without much trouble. I know they are now going after a bigger and badder enemy but still, the first one could have put up more of a challenge.

*Spoiler Alert* So, if Athel had the ability to morph into an animal after an extremely stressful event, why did something like that never occur in the land she came from? Neither she nor her friends had ever encountered such an event.

The storyline seems to be getting sidetracked from locating where the demon will appear into dealing with new adversaries. Oh, and there's Eric's flying lizard friend.

Story is entertaining but I have too many other books queued to purchase the next three at this time.

Great Writing

Character development as the story goes along is great. The fast friends overcome multiple obstacles working together and then individually for the greater good. Some twists and turns are revealed, both good and bad.

I enjoyed it. It has a bit of the Wheel of time and Sword of Truth to it. Characters could be a bit less predictable but it was a fun read.

This book is very good. The story, characters and pace of the story keeps the reader "turning the pages" so to speak! Can't wait to get into the next set. Unfortunately I'm on a budget (fixed income) so must wait for the free option. Hopefully that will be sooner than later! Thank you to the author!
