I could not put this book down, always waiting to see what was happening next. Juelz's growth was amazing. Tasha's strength was admirable. And Shyann... **sinister smile**

Yes — keep the blackmail details because that’s the whole reason the premise falls apart. Here’s the revised version:
I wanted to like this book, but the main relationship did not work for me.
My biggest issue was the way the cheating was handled. Tasha’s so-called best friend blackmailed Juelz with hospital footage and threatened to expose Tasha unless he slept with her. The story tried to frame this as Juelz “protecting” Tasha, but I could not buy that. Based on how Juelz was written, he had too much power, too many resources, and too much ruthlessness for that excuse to make sense. He is supposed to be dangerous and feared, yet this one blackmail situation somehow left him with no choice but to carry on sexually with another woman? That did not add up.
Instead of feeling like a man making a painful sacrifice, he came across as a man who made terrible choices and then wanted those choices softened by his emotions afterward. The betrayal was even worse because Tasha was already dealing with serious health and fertility issues. She had enough pain in her life without being hurt by both her man and her best friend.
What frustrated me most was that the “protection” did not even protect her. The damage still happened, so all the cheating felt pointless on top of being cruel. I understood Tasha’s anger completely. What I struggled with was how the book seemed to want Juelz’s pain to outweigh hers. His spiral was written dramatically, but suffering after you hurt someone does not automatically make you redeemable.
I also did not like how the second chance romance was pushed. For me, the redemption was not strong enough to make the reunion feel earned. There were too many lies, too much damage, and not enough true accountability. I needed Juelz to fully own what he did without hiding behind “I was trying to protect you.”
The story had drama, but after a while it felt like trauma was being used to force the romance back together instead of letting the characters grow in a believable way.

I went into Color Me Broken with high expectations because I thoroughly enjoyed Camille V.‘s previous work, and I’m happy to report that she absolutely delivered.
This is one of those stories that reminds you how fragile life can be and how quickly circumstances, secrets, and difficult choices can change everything. Without giving away too much, the story follows characters who appear to have built a beautiful life together, only to discover that love alone isn’t always enough to protect you from life’s complications.
What I appreciated most was how realistic the relationships felt. The struggles, miscommunications, heartbreaks, and moments of joy never felt manufactured for drama’s sake. Instead, they felt painfully authentic. The characters made decisions that frustrated me, broke my heart, and occasionally had me talking to the pages, but they always felt human.
Beyond the romance, this story explores friendship, grief, infertility, addiction, betrayal, healing, and resilience with incredible care. The friend group deserves special recognition because they brought so much warmth, humor, accountability, and support to the story. Their presence reminded me that sometimes the people who carry us through our darkest moments aren’t always our romantic partners.

The mess in this book was wild… I feel like Juelz going to rehab and turn around to ask her to marry him was really rush. This couple deserves to be with each other because both of them love that toxic relationship. The FMC going through cancer and finding out Juelz cheated on her with her best friend when he could have just told her about the video and allow her to just lose her job..

Unfortunately this story fell flat for me. It was an okay read! I expected more as the previous book was beautifully written. The premise of the blackmail was too generic and unbelievable. If Juelz is such a killa with multiple resources then why did he go along with Shyann???? Then Juelz was immature and had a lot of audacity as Tasha was battling cancer. He could pop up at a dinner BUT not one of her Dr appointment..sigh!!! He never asked 1 time in this book how was she feeling? He was definitely chaos.. self centered and later became a junkie! Now Tasha.. she went out sad in my opinion! She was strong at first but 1 little funky date and a basketball proposal made you take him back??? After you were fighting for your life AND the ball player was there!!!! Girl bye.. matter of fact GOODBYE!!!

Okay so, this book irritated me so bad.. more specifically Juelz. MAN IF YOU DONT SHOOT THAT HO! Tf?! You not bout to be a fake friend to my girl, blackmail me to get me, AND threaten my girl license? See my favorite MMCs would’ve sent Shyann and her cousin to the upper room quickly. Shyann got what she deserved and I’m pissed it took as long as it did. Lack of love doesn’t turn you into that, that’s just who you are.
I do not condone cheating, but i do understand Juelz just trying to protect Tasha even though it backfired regardless. I think it would’ve been easier to just let Tasha know what was up and they could’ve figured out a game plan, but I understand this is fiction and we needed the drama. Tasha… Man I felt so bad for her 🥹. That was a lot to go through man, and the way she crashed out was 1000% valid. Team Tasha fasho. I also hated to see Juelz lose himself the way he did but at the same time, consequences of your actions.
Overall I was rooting for them and I’m glad in the end, things aligned how they were meant. Camille you had me a little nervous at the end girl why would you do that? 🤣

🎶Lost Without You Can’t Help Myself 🎶
Wowwww this book took me so many places but it was definitely a good book. Betrayal, love, attempts to move forward, hurt, lies, secrets, fear, loss, a hard life, sickness, depression I mean this book had it all. They were battling things together yet separately. Juelz allowed the streets and a freak yo to cause him to lose out on his peace by not being upfront. The song ain’t no sunshine when she’s gone and the saying ain’t no fun when the rabbit got the gun is all he experienced when Tasha had enough not to mention all of what she was dealing with too. This book was so passionate and tugged at so many feelings and emotions. You rooted for them both at different times. You were grateful that they had real friends to share with and talk too and encourage them to get right. I thoroughly enjoyed it 10/10

2.5 Stars. The whole blackmail situation was a wash. Juelz considered it being noble but nothing about that was for Tasha. Like his friend said, cheating was not the only option. How is he in the streets and is highly feared, but being blackmailed for sex...he could've done a number of things instead of caving to Shy. AND he went in with no plan - like if we do this you gotta delete the video, nothing - and the minute he didn't oblige, she still tried to ruin Tasha's life. I don't like that Juelz didn't take accountability for cheating, he was willing to die on that "I did it for you" foolishness.
Tasha went out sad. She left a man who seemed very genuine and intentional and not only safe but fine and paid to be with a man who didn't respect her wishes to process her feelings before proposing and making her be with him after he violated to the 10th degree.

September 9, 2026I got this audiobook from Simon Maverick. Lacey and midnight are a fabu combination that I always love to listen to.
I wanted to love this especially because the dedication was so beautiful. I really resonated with what camille described as such a strength from her sister.
But even your favorite voice actors cannot pull a book from being not for you.
Juelz from the very beginning irked me. I'm talking where in the dressing room, and he's complaining that she's bleeding longer than a normal period instead of being like baby you ok he's mad He can't get fuck.
And then the reason why he cheats is so flimsy for me, if you have all of this power, I needed something more and the best friend I just I can't.
Plus there was zero accountability. It was continuously, I did this for you.
I said I was in the mood for a cheating trope, which is rare, but I need a grovel. I need a. I'm gonna burn down the world to prove to you that I fucked up.
But i'm gonna give another camille book a try. Because the way she handled everything else was beautiful. I just hate this man bad

A lying, cheating MF, a scorned woman spiraling into a burn-down-the-house, bat-the-sh!t-out-of-his-car level of crazy, all while dealing with health issues AND a backstabbing BFF.
Her mindf#ck had me yelling, “Girl, GET IT TOGETHER!”
I was frustrated, entertained, and fully invested in this mess all at the same time. But hear me out: Once a cheater, always a cheater!

Color Me Broken by Camille V was an emotional rollercoaster. This story was raw, messy, and full of healing. But let this book be a reminder to watch those so called friends. Everybody smiling in your face isn’t rooting for you. Some people want your life, your peace, and even your man. Camille V kept me locked in from beginning to end, and I was rooting for love to win through all the chaos. Definitely one I’d recommend.

All lies and betrayal from Shyann was so unnecessary, and I’m glad Tasha dragged her for old and new. As much as this story broke me down, it also showed the strength it takes to heal and keep moving forward.

A book that has sensitive themes in it so check the trigger warnings. Something just didn’t click for me in the characters. I didn’t connect to our main characters love so I was indifferent to their reconciliation. Surely Julez could have thought of some other way to pacifist that tramp, he’s meant to be in streets but just rolled over for that troll??? Then the betrayal with Shyann felt hollow because we didn’t really see the depth of this friendship on the pages. Hence why the start and end of the book felt off - it didn’t feel justified or finished, kind of felt random to be honest. I started skimming through the chapters. This wasn’t the book for me.

When I first met Tasha and Julez, they felt like the fun couple. The couple who laughed often, loved deeply, and somehow found a way to make life feel lighter despite its challenges. What I wasn't prepared for was the emotional journey Camille V. would take them AND ME on!
Tasha and Julez are beautifully imperfect. They are flawed, messy, and carrying burdens that don't simply disappear because love enters the picture. Their struggles felt authentic, making it impossible not to become invested in their journey. Camille V. reminds us that healing is rarely linear and that love does not require perfection to be meaningful.
One of my favorite aspects of this story was how human the characters felt. Their pain, mistakes, and growth felt genuine. Even during moments of frustration, I found myself rooting for them because their journey reflected something many of us understand: healing takes time, and sometimes the people we love are also learning how to heal themselves.
My only frustration was the conflict that kept them apart. While I understood its purpose, I felt like Juelz rationale wasn’t good enough. But read the book and come to your own conclusions.
By the end of the story, I fully understood the significance of the title. Color Me Broken serves as a beautiful reminder that broken crayons still color. Broken love can still be beautiful in its own right. Love isn’t perfect. Love isn’t transactional. It’s healing. We are all carrying scars, healing in our own way, and living somewhere in the colors between brokenness and wholeness.
And then there was that epilogue…let's just say Camille V. wanted to tap dance on my nerves one last time.
If you enjoy emotional romance, flawed but lovable characters, stories centered on healing, and relationships that feel real, Color Me Broken is a journey worth taking.

This was a 3.5 star to me.
Juelz and Tasha had it all until they didn’t. A poor decision made by Tasha led to Juelz being blackmailed and doing the unthinkable at a time where Tasha needed him the the most. While I understood Juelz thought he was doing the “right” thing he could have handled that situation way different so that the price he paid wasn’t so damaging. I felt Tasha’s pain and betrayal. With so called friends like Shyann you do not need enemies because she was wild and so wrong for what she did. Tasha was fighting her heart and her head; she went through a lot but the support from her family and genuine friends helped her navigate. In dealing with all this drama, Camille brought some heavy topics into the fold when it came to Juelz’s character which can be triggering to some so definitely take care of yourself while reading. What Juelz went through helped him get himself together to be a better man not only for himself but also for Tasha. His boys were some real friends and it was nice seeing male friendship portrayed in that way. When it came to their relationship, Tasha really needed to take a step back from Juelz before she was able to see that he was the one she wanted to be with. It was nice seeing Juelz come correct for her to try to get her back while she did that. Now, there were times where I wasn’t quite sure of the timing of some events which threw off the flow a little for me but overall Camille did a good job at keeping me engaged and wanting to see how certain things were going to go and if/how things would be worked out. I also felt a wide range of emotions while reading. Even though the book was heavy at times, Juelz was a character and I was laughing at his antics. Overall, I enjoyed this read and if you enjoy second chance romances, this is a good one to check out.

I just finished an ARC read of Color Me Broken by Camille V. and this book definitely kept me emotionally invested from beginning to end.
The story follows Tasha and Juelz, a young engaged couple who appear to have the perfect life, successful careers, love, loyalty, and plans for a future together. But behind closed doors, secrets, betrayal, and outside manipulation begin to test everything they thought they had built.
Without giving too much away, one shocking betrayal changes the course of their relationship completely. As hidden truths start piling up on both sides, the story dives into love, trust, heartbreak, jealousy, and the emotional weight of keeping secrets from the people we care about most.
One thing I really enjoyed was how emotionally layered the characters were. Nobody felt perfect, and the author did a great job showing how pain, envy, fear, and love can all collide at once. There were moments that made me frustrated, emotional, and rooting for the characters all at the same time.
I also appreciated that the story touched on real-life struggles and heavy topics while still balancing romance and chemistry throughout the book. The emotional scenes felt raw and believable, and the tension kept me wanting to know what would happen
If you enjoy emotional romance dramas filled with secrets, betrayal, complicated relationships, and characters who make you feel everything right along with them, I’d definitely recommend adding this one to your reading list. Some wounds run deep… but love has a way of fighting its way back when you least expect it.

Who needs enemies when you have friends like Shyann & Kenya! Instead of forcing her to go downstairs and see a doctor- yall imbeciles plotting on her man! When Tasha had that dream that she was beating Shyann into a pulp- I was cheering on her like Mimi did Joseline when she was beating up Stevie J! When Tasha saw those messages and video- that lady received the strength of all of the avengers lol! Shyann how you get beat up by someone fresh out of a surgery?? That lady tore you out the frame and it was well deserved you raggedy hoe!!
Now Tasha- holding back your cancer diagnosis had to be the dumbest thing you could’ve done! Why did you do that??? Ju would’ve and should’ve been there for you! Other than that you did no wrong my baby. You were too good to Ju and I’m glad you left. Kenji was a good look and I’m glad you got to experience some love without hurt!
Kenji going into his Tae Kwon Doe stance was soo funny to me!! Those homeboys had no chill!! Them fools joked about anything and everything but when they saw their boy drowning they went into action! Unlike them hoes Tasha had in her corner!
That showdown in the restaurant was a hot mess! Tasha slapping on her coochie like Evelyn Lozada did OG on basketball wives and Ju saying that God awful thing about her uterus!! How you made at her when you were slinging peen to every hoe who came by! Instead of just telling Tash about Shyann you went with her awful proposition- should’ve done like Sin and off with her like he did with his hoe!
After a few months of separation- both of them come back together. Jules did the work and got his girl back! He ain’t never making that mistake again!

Camille V. really knew how to make me question everybody in this book because I was side-eyeing Cheyenne from the moment she showed up. 😂 The more I learned about her, the more I was like, “Oh, so you really are just LOONEY.” She had so many opportunities to leave well enough alone, but instead she kept pushing things further and further. I was definitely waiting for somebody to finally catch her in her mess.
Tasha and Juelz were another story because whew, these two had A LOT to work through. There were so many secrets and misunderstandings between them that I wanted to shake both of them at different points. I understood why Tasha was struggling to trust him, but I also wanted Juelz to just TELL HER THE TRUTH already! Their relationship went through so much, and I liked seeing them have to confront what they actually wanted instead of continuing to run from it.
I really enjoyed the supporting characters too, especially the people who refused to let Juelz completely fall apart. His friends showed up for him in some really important moments, and I loved seeing him have people around him who could call him out while still having his back. I also appreciated seeing him work on himself because sometimes loving someone isn’t enough if you haven’t dealt with your own issues first.
Overall, Color Me Broken gave me the kind of relationship drama that kept me wondering how these people were going to make it through everything thrown at them. There were definitely moments where I wanted to fuss at everybody, but I was invested in Tasha and Juelz and wanted to see them get their happy ending. And Cheyenne? Girl, you were doing entirely too much. 😂

Aight so hear me out, what would have happened if they just told the truth!! After all the chaos I’ve been reading lately, this book honestly felt like a little emotional palate cleanser. Still heavy, still heartbreaking but the kind of emotional ride that had me thinking more than screaming at my Kindle. Juelz and Tasha really had me asking myself the entire time WHAT IF Y’ALL JUST COMMUNICATED!!!!
Stank, your backstabbing so called best friend is trying to blackmail me and make you lose your job. Juelz, I know we’ve been trying to have a child for years but I just found out I have ovarian cancer. THAT’S IT! THAT’S THE CONVERSATION!
I understand that fear, shame, guilt and grief can make people keep things to themselves but baby omission is NOT protection. Sometimes you think you’re shielding the person you love when you’re really making decisions for them without giving them the opportunity to stand beside you. That’s what hurt the most. These two loved each other deeply but instead of facing the hard truth together, they carried separate burdens in silence until those burdens became too heavy.
This was definitely an emotional ride. There were moments that broke my heart because you could see how differently things might have unfolded if they had simply trusted each other enough to have the uncomfortable conversations. Sometimes the truth hurts. Secrets have a way of taking the pain, putting it in a blender and serving everybody a bigger portion.

I recently finished reading an ARC copy of Color Me Broken by Camille V., and it was a story that kept me emotionally invested from beginning to end.
I should mention that I read this book without first reading The Weight of Us, but the story flowed so well that I never felt lost or confused. The author did a great job providing enough context for new readers while still delivering a compelling story.
Color Me Broken centers around Tasha and Juelz, an engaged couple who seem to have everything going for them—successful careers, a strong relationship, a bright future together.
Their story highlights how hidden secrets, outside influences, jealousy, and unexpected betrayals can slowly destroy something that once seemed unbreakable.
What I enjoyed most was how realistic Tasha and Juelz's relationship felt. Their story could easily be anyone's story because it reflects real-life struggles that many people face. Throughout the book, secrets, jealousy, and betrayal all play significant roles, while also showing the lengths people are willing to go for the things—and the people—they truly want.
I highly recommend adding this book to your TBR. Just be prepared for an emotional journey that will take you through heartbreak, frustration, hope, and healing before bringing you back again.

This book hurt in the kind of way that sits heavy on your chest.
Color Me Broken is betrayal, addiction, sickness, survival, and Black love all tangled into one emotional storm. Tasha and Juelz were supposed to be forever the kind of love that was loud, protective, and deeply rooted. But love gets tested in the ugliest way when Tasha is caught stealing some pills while on duty puts everything at risk, and her so-called best friend Shyann uses that weakness to blackmail Juelz.
And Juelz? He loved Tasha so much he made a devastating choice trying to protect her… but that choice shattered the very woman he was trying to save.
Tasha is fighting cancer while also fighting heartbreak? Whew. That broke me. Her pain felt raw. As a cancer survivor, I knew how she felt. Her rage felt earned. And when she beat the brakes off Shyann, after learning about her and Juelz. Shyann deserved every bit of that ass whupping.
Losing Tasha causes Juelz to spiral and he starts using his own product. That point in the story shows how broken love can make a person when guilt, grief, and regret take over. But at the heart of this story was healing, messy, painful, imperfect healing.
This book was emotional, heartbreaking, and heartwarming all at once. It showed that love can break you, betrayal can change you, but survival can color you whole again.

Just when it seemed like she was carrying more than anyone should have to endure, she was hit with the ultimate betrayal discovering that her fiancé and best friend had shattered her trust in the worst possible way.
What made this story even more powerful was the beautiful second-chance romance woven throughout the heartbreak. As the FMC struggled to heal from her losses, she unexpectedly found an opportunity to open her heart again. Watching her learn to trust, love, and believe in happiness after everything she had endured was both emotional and rewarding.

Camille V pulled me into this story from the very beginning. The emotional tone is set in the prologue, and I immediately knew I was in for a journey.
Having previously read The Weight of Us, I expected an emotionally charged romance, and Color Me Broken delivered. Juelz and Tasha are flawed, complex characters who face real challenges in their relationship. Their story isn't always pretty, but that's what made it feel authentic. The messiness, pain, and healing all felt genuine, creating a romance that was easy to become invested in.
One of the things I appreciated most was how realistic the relationships felt. The characters make mistakes, carry emotional baggage, and have to work through difficult situations rather than simply finding easy solutions.

Color Me Broken was a beautiful emotional rollercoaster! If you read “The Weight of Us” then you know Camille V hits you with a few jaw dropping moments that will have you missing a few hours of sleep! This one is no different, I actually liked this one better! We met Juelz and Tasha briefly in the debut novel … but this one goes deep within their story. Juelz is still a nut and Tasha is one tough cookie! Their love story is raw, real, emotional and passionate. You’ll get some jealousy, betrayal, heart break, redemption and a whole lot of mess! Even the epilogue almost took me out! Read those trigger warnings!

Tasha and Juelzs relationship started off chaotic in The Weight of Us, so we shouldn't have expected anything else. From beginning to end their relationship was built on nothing but absolute chaos,lies, and betrayal. And everything could've been avoided if they were both honest with each other. The blackmailing that Shyann started was crazy but Juelz was doing what he thought was saving Tasha,which ended up doing more damage to them.
I didn't agree with Juelzs "pain" outweighed Tashas. Tasha was going through a sickness, infertility and him cheating on her with one of her"friends" and that was overshadowed by him not being able to face his own lies. Although they ended up getting their happy ending the journey to them getting there was exhausting to say the least.
Overall I rate it a 4⭐. Will I read more of Tasha and Juelz if Camille V writes about them again? ABSOLUTELY!!

Everything started okay but 20% into it just pissed me clean off. So the MMC is supposedly this big time street nigga who has no qualms about ending lives yet a tiny blackmail plot had him caving and sleeping with her best friend??? All the while, she’s going through fertility issues and cancer. I just found it all quite stupid, especially for someone who is supposed to be a street nigga. Then he gets mad at her when she moves on and starts dating a baseball player. Niggas will always have the audacity, especially when they mess up first. I just hate so much when these authors put all this trauma on the FMC and it takes nothing for him to win her back. It’s pathetic. And of course in this book, she doesn’t choose the healthy option, but instead she takes the toxic nigga who broke her heart back. I’m over it.
Maybe this author just isn’t for me. This is the second book I’ve read by her where I’ve felt underwhelmed by the story.
