The relationship between Lyric and Atticus feels incredibly rushed in the beginning, which made it difficult for me to believe that there’s a genuine connection between them - “but you hardly know each other” is probably my most used annotation throughout the book. That in turn made it difficult for me to really get into the story, and that feeling sadly stuck around for the majority of the book. I feel like the story could have benefited from a lot more build-up to Lyric and Atticus’s relationship.

There were a few things that annoyed me that I can’t get into detail about because it would spoil parts of the book, and I didn’t really get invested in the story until… approximately the last 15 pages.
I have to admit that the ending does make me want to read the second part of the duet, because I do want to know the details of how they got there and what they’re going to do next.

This curiosity sadly does not undo the fact that I personally didn’t enjoy the majority of the book.

(I received this book as an ARC and I am leaving this review voluntarily.)

I genuinely did not know what to expect going into this one, and I think that ended up being part of the fun.

Because there were several moments where I just sat there thinking what the fck am I reading?

And then immediately kept reading because obviously I needed to know what happened next.

Haunting Goats is Decay B.’s debut, and while there were a few places where the story felt a little disjointed and I wanted the flow to be smoother, I was honestly surprised by how much I enjoyed it.

Especially Lyric.

She has spent so much of her existence being beaten down by other people that she doesn’t really see herself clearly anymore. She’s plus sized, neurospicy, feisty, and underneath everything she survived is a woman who has more strength than she realizes.

And that’s where Atticus really got me.

Yes, he’s protective and possessive and gives me all that “who did this to you?” energy that we already know I have absolutely zero resistance to. But he doesn’t just want to swoop in and save Lyric.

He wants her to see herself the way he sees her.

“If I can’t be your hero, I want you to be your own.”

Yeahhhh. That one got me.

There was something really beautiful about Lyric getting the chance, even in death, to discover who she is outside of everything that was done to her. And having Atticus beside her, believing in her without trying to become the source of her strength, made me love their connection even more.

Of course, we are still talking about Haunting Goats, so while I’m over here unexpectedly having feelings, there is also vengeance, spice, ghosts, and some truly WTF moments.

This book goes places.

There were things I absolutely did not expect to contemplate about the afterlife, and Decay’s descriptions were so vivid that occasionally I swear I could smell the page.

Which was impressive right up until it became: MA’AM. THE STANK.

But I loved that Decay wasn’t afraid to commit to the story she wanted to tell. It’s dark and strange and spicy, but there’s genuine heart underneath all of it.

For me, the missing star really comes down to the flow. There were transitions that pulled me out of the story and places where I wanted a little more development or connective tissue. I think tightening those pieces would have made everything else hit even harder.

But for a debut?
There is absolutely something here.

And then I reached that ending.
Excuse me?
WHAT. THE. FCK.

You cannot just leave me sitting here with THAT. Where is book 2?

So yes, four stars.

I expected ghosts, vengeance, spice, and a whole lot of paranormal WTFery. I didn’t expect to care quite so much about Lyric and Atticus along the way.

And honestly? That was my favorite surprise.

Huge thank you to Decay B. for trusting me with an ARC. All thoughts are completely my own.

Haunting Goats is the stunning debut dark romance novel from new indie author, Decay B. I knew the moment I saw the cover of this book pop up in my feed that I absolutely HAD to read it. I followed Decay right away and made my interest very clear! 😆 I feel truly blessed that she noticed me and decided to reach out and invite me to her street team, allowing me to read HG early! It was such a good read, the kind that made me feel ALL the feels. I laughed, I yelled, I cheered, I raged, I gagged a little and I cried. I ate it all up and I absolutely loved it.

Decay captured my attention right away with Lyric, or Lyr, our plus sized, feisty and vulnerable FMC. Her vivid descriptions of people and places made me feel like I was living inside Lyr's world, walking beside and experiencing everything with her. From her first moments with Atticus, or Attie, our obsessed, possessive, ghostly MMC and giant teddy bear of a Daddy Dom, to the very final word of the book, I felt truly immersed in the rich world our talented author has created. That said, it's a world that is as dark as it is vivid. Lyric goes through some very traumatizing things, in both her past and the present, which is where we pick up the story, just moments before she takes her final breath. There are a LOT of twists and turns within these pages that I wasn't expecting, as well as...

🩶 A Morally Gray FMC & MMC
👻 Spicy Ghosts
🩶 Him Falling First & Hard
👻 Forced Proximity
🩶 " Who did this to you?" Vibes
👻 Touch Her & ☠️ Vibes
🩶 A Little Bit of Blood & Gore

...and an ending that left me silently screaming at Decay B. Which I definitely told her, too! Not only did that ending leave me silently screaming, it also left me dying for book 2 of The Human Address Duet. Which I will be recommending to anyone and everyone I come across. I'll also telling anyone I recommend it to to please check out the trigger warning and content lists because there's some really dark moments and themes in this book. Your mental well-being is more important than reading a book that might put said well-being in jeopardy. I hope that after checking those lists out you will still want and be able to read Haunting Goats, because it is just, in my not so humble opinion, a wonderful and so beautifully written debut. Decay has created a lush, living, pulsing, breathing world that I cannot wait to dive back into!

Story : ✔️✔️✔️✔️✔️
Blood & Gore: 🩸🩸🩸

"Just pretend we’re creating a '90s montage instead of being mediocre and unoriginal.”

Lyric thought the worst was behind her, fleeing from her abusive relationship, with no memory or how she got there, currently trapped in the In-Between, which is a peculiar place between life and death. But there's only one person who is inclined to help, his name is Atticus. Lyric tries to find peace as Atticus helps her navigate through the unknown answers unveiling the ominous truth about Lyrics death. In order for Lyric to evade the In-Between she has to come face to face with the people who dismantled her life, unravel the truth and what she's willing to sacrifice for revenge.

"Everything has a place—and if it doesn’t, it becomes Forky from Toy Story 3—immediate trash."

This book had incredible depth of emotion, character building and immersing you into a world of the unknown, murky waters of darkness and the what ifs. As someone who is scared of death, this gave me a new inner perspective and angles from the standpoint of someone who is. Lyric is anxious, questionable and unsure of herself as she has taken head on the unimaginable, broken family and abusive boyfriend. Lyric and Atticus cross paths and Atticus will do whatever it takes to comfort and show Lyric love, protection and the attention she deserves. Their endless banter, connection and how their spirits are in tune within one another is magical. Yes Atticus is a good looking fella, maybe a bit possessive and obsessive but has good intentions and devoted to Lyric through the thick and thin. From start to finish you'll be feeling every emotion, the journey is filled with ups and downs, finding yourself and seeking the revenge that you deserve when everything has been taken away from you in the worst possible way. The ending made me do a double take and I had to go back and re-read it, no kindles were harmed in the mist of my epiphany. And the flare of pop culture and dark humour that was throughout the book, I see what you did Decay and I'm here for it!

Haunting Goats by Decay B. completely caught me off guard.
By the time I reached the ending, I was genuinely just sitting there... staring at the wall trying to process the absolute curveball that got thrown at me. I thought I had things figured out, and then the book said, "Think again."
If you loved Pen Pal, this one should absolutely be on your radar. It has that same unsettling, emotional, "what is actually happening?" feeling that keeps you flipping pages.
One of my favorite parts was Lyric's journey. She starts as someone crippled by anxiety, constantly second-guessing herself, and honestly, I related to that so much. Watching her slowly come out of her shell, find her voice, and become the one taking charge made the entire journey worth it. Her growth felt earned, and I found myself rooting for her every step of the way.
And then there's Atticus. My heart honestly broke for him. He spends his entire life trying to control everything and save everyone because of the weight of his past. No matter how hard he tries, it feels like it constantly backfires on him, which made him such a tragic and compelling character. But in the end... he still managed to save the person who mattered most.
This book doesn't shy away from difficult topics. Please check the trigger warnings before diving in. It contains:
On-page sexual assault
On-page abuse
Murder
Your mental health matters more than any book, so please read with care.
Overall, Haunting Goats is an emotional, haunting story filled with obsession, trauma, healing, revenge, and twists that will leave you questioning everything. I'm still thinking about that ending.

I have received this book as an ARC from the author and leaving this rewiev voluntarily.

Okay... I genuinely don't know what I was expecting going into Haunting Goats, but it definitely wasn't THAT. 😂
This book had me questioning what was going on basically the entire time.
I thought I had things figured out, and then nope. Absolutely not.
The twists kept throwing me off, and that ending??? I was just sitting there like... excuse me??? 😭
I NEED BOOK 2.
I really loved Lyric's character arc, too. She starts off so anxious and unsure of herself, and watching her slowly find her voice and become stronger was probably one of my favorite parts of the book. I actually cared about what happened to her and found myself rooting for her.
And Atticus... 🫠 This man is definitely something. Obsessive, protective, morally gray, a little terrifying, but also somehow a giant teddy bear when it comes to Lyric. Their relationship is definitely unconventional, but I was completely invested in them.
Also, this book is DARK. Like... REALLY dark. 😍
There were definitely moments where I had to take a second because the violence, abuse, gore, and everything else were a lot. So please, please check the trigger warnings before reading.
But somehow there are also funny moments mixed in with all the darkness, which I really enjoyed.
Overall, this was such a weird, twisted, emotional ride and I honestly had no idea where it was going. I'm still thinking about that ending, which is always a good sign for me.
Now excuse me while I go yell at Decay B. about book 2. 😂👻🐐

Disclaimer: I received a review copy for free by the author, and I’m leaving this review voluntarily.

Decay B has written a book I thought I had figured out along the way, but the unexpected plot twists towards the end took me by surprise. The plot was fairly easy, with Lyric and Attic, and their life together seeking revenge for Lyric.

I loved Lyrics development throughout the story. She started like an anxious woman that let others trample over her in abuse, and ended as a strong woman with own opinions and thoughts thanks to her relationship with Attic. Attic was sometimes so sweet and caring towards her, and other times he was irritating me with the way he saw the situations or treated her. I also felt the spicy scenes came at a bizarre timing in the story, and it seemed that some of them were thrown in there just for the sake of being there. Their romance felt a bit rushed, and I took myself in thinking that they didn’t really know each other even at the end. That being said I’m curious to see how the plot plays out in book 2.

I highly recommend to read the trigger warnings before this book, since some topics were quite heavy loaded with rape, abuse, grooming and gore to mention some. This book ain’t for everybody and that’s okay. This book is a good fit if you are okay with all the trigger warnings and you like dark romance, paranomality, gore, murder and mental health in a wicked plot.

Arc review

I give this book 5⭐️ for it is well written, with fluent characters and storyline, with a unique concept.
The genre took me by surprise: i don't usually read the trigger warnings, just the blurb, and it seemed a book I usually read. However, it took me by surprise with the darkness, the violence, the gore torture and ... everything!
This is by far the bloodiest book I have ever read! But! It is not all that: Lyric and Atticus are an unexpected couple. By what they are and who they are, how they came to be togather and by the way their fate leads them.
Attie is absolutely perfect: he is a morally gray biker guy, totally devoted, who loves with a deep burn, who respects the woman he loves, protects and does everything in his power to make it better.
Lyr is an ultimate victim: fallern into an abusive relationship with a horrible man, from a horrible family where she was abused in all the possible ways. And fate gives her Attie.
The book begins and ends in the same point in space, different time and different experiences. I have never immersed into such dysfunctional families! This whole book felt like a Tarantino movie! Even the name of the book is absolutely brilliant!

This book took me by surprise, and is definitely something new to me!
Thanks, Decay B. for this book, excelent book for the Halloween seson!

I have received this book as ARC from the author and I am leaving this review voluntarily!

This book started out with an amazing story line. Had me hooked right away. The backstory about Lyric was heartbreaking and definitely a rollercoaster ride. You just really felt for her and rooted for her. Atticus had a different background which I was excited for because this I was hoping would be Lyrics Ying to her Yang. Their romance was super fast and rushed. At times I was asking myself if more time had passed because of the wordage used referring to behaviors. But I think it was a short time. I don’t know….But let me say this, there were times I actually hated Attie. Sometimes his behavior towards Lyr had me pissed off. I just was hoping he was going to be her savior, that safe place always for her. There were times I was saying to myself he’s an asshole. But then he’d turn around and be that safe place for her. Ugh!!! There were times the sex scenes would happen for the sake of happening at the most bizarre times. I love dark romance but something didn’t hit for me here. The ending was wild. I did enjoy the close of this story. I will read the next one to find out more. It was an entertaining story and I would recommend if someone is wanting something easy to read.

I was chosen to be a arc reader for this book, and honestly i’m in love with it. Yes the relationship for atticus and lyric go by fast, and I feel like that’s what hooked me onto the book. So if you like slow burns you may not enjoy this book as much. but i recommend giving it a try. Obsessive man is always the way to go!

Her past was sad I will say that, and the way she died. When she finally felt like she escaped that horrible life just to find out it was the reason she died. At first it did not click to me but once I read more and realized why Jake was so shocked that night made total sense. I was so shocked to find out more about Jake as I did not expect that, and her own parents knew.

When we got into Jake's motel it was horrible! How could he live like that, that horrible smell? How did nobody question him or called the cops. How did he manage to get away with it that long!

Once I got to the ending I honestly can’t believe the book ended that way. It was just a big shift, so unexpected. I was expecting a happy ending for both of them. I honestly felt like I was being left on a cliffhanger.

ARC Review
Wow. This book was really nice. I do not read much paranormal romance and this is the first time I’m reading a romance about dead people and the concept of the in between. I loved the it!!!
The plot was really nice. It was so happening and I could just feel the rush of the moment all the time.
Coming to the characters. I really like Lyric and Attie. They were such good characters and the way Lyric just navigates and processes what’s happening was described really well. How Attie supports her through her journey was also shown really well.
And Dee,I know she’s such a red flag but there is something about her that Im just drawn too . I totally understand why Lyric also felt that.
Honestly all the characters other than the MCs were so horrible🙄. All of them deserve to die. Like genuinely😤. It is so satisfying when she takes her revenge🔥.
And I was so not ready for the plot twist that happens. Like my jaw dropped. I was like WHAT in the world is happening? And after that the plot just went insane.
THE CLIMAX Oh my God. I did not see that coming. It was so good😍.
I definitely enjoyed reading this book and thank the author for giving me the ARC copy🫶

Haunting Goats was a quick and run read. It's edgy. Spicy. Dark in just the right places. My heart wept for Lyric, and my hate fire burned for Atticus. It's hard to imagine enjoying a book with such a dislikable MMC, yet, here we are.

Decay B.'s debut explores the broken mindset of a woman who has spent her life made to believe she's worth less than dog poop on a shoe. Her ex is literal human trash. Her mom--just as awful. What makes it better--she's three weeks into this journey and falling for a man who, despite being obsessed with her, is possibly the worst kind of abuser. There's no question Attie cares for Lyr. But the reader has to ask--at what point is that not enough? Can Lyr escape her past? Will she find her freedom? And if she does, will she want it?

I can't wait to see what Decay B. does next.

Haunting Goats is everything you didn't realize you need in a book. Atticus only wants what's best for Lyric- to move on. But Lyric is just looking for "home". Sometimes home is a feeling, rather than a place and you need to read to see how they figure that out.
I had the absolute pleasure of reading this previous to it's release and I died laughing when I figured out why it's called Haunting Goats. Then, the ending?! Better believe that I was right in Decay's inbox screaming for the next part!
The characters go through so much development, and maturing- even though they're dead. The bad guys get EXACTLY what is coming to them. This is a must read for anyone who needs some tension, a few laughs and a dang good time going through some sh!t

Lyric and Atticus meet at one of the quietest places. There is an instant connection. And from that moment on we went on one of the craziest rides ever. Lyric is brat and Atticus is a brat tamer. She is so sassy tries to mouth off and Atticus is like yea no we’re not doing that. These two take off on the crazier adventure ever. Oooops I almost forgot to tell you Lyric is dead. Yea I know. I will say it did take a minute to get into the writing because at times it would feel a bit rushed and I felt like I missed something. I would go back and reread it but it didn’t take away from the story. Despite that Decay’s writing was very engaging. This was a fast paced story. There were plenty of oop moments. I don’t believe I’ve ever read a book like this(one that was similar). I truly enjoyed it.

Advanced reader copy received from author.

I struggled with this book as there were parts I enjoyed and the story drew me in and then in the next breath it lost me completely.
Lyric's and Atties story was completely rushed to me, they met and then they were a full blown couple within a few chapters, it would have been nice to see their relationship develop. It's not even that I like a slow burn it was just too quick.
I think there was more focus on the spice than the character/relationship development.
If felt like there was spice for the sake of spice to fill in gaps rather than going into the storyline.

Attie also really confused me with the way he treated Lyric, one second he was nice to her and protecting her and the next he spoke to her like trash - it was very confusing. I don't think he was a likeable MMC at all.

This was a waste of time to read. I can see that it had so much potential but the author had just put in a load of badly written smut to make it longer and the smut was a bit disturbing it made me cringe a bit and gag with the wording and how it was wrote.

The writing on a whole I've read better and I've read worse the characters were more like badly written teens than fully grown adults who seriously need to go to the doctors because no one should be creating pools when they come or get wet so I'm pretending it's ectoplasm to keep my sanity. The chemistry between characters didn't really react with me it didn't feel natural.

I don't really have much words for this but it had a real good base as a storyline but it was just written wrong and the ending made no sense to me at all.

Haunting Goats is one of those books that you pick up and can’t put down. I read it in 4 days. Decay has a way of making you feel like you’re living in the characters worlds and feeling all of their emotions. She captures your attention right from the start making you not want to put this down. It takes you into an imaginary world of the “in between”. Can there be love after death? The ending was not what I expected, that twist still has me wondering…..was it all real? Love, Attie

The book does have some trigger points so if you’ve been through domestic violence, murder, or don’t love gory scenes, this one may not be for you.

My heart absolutely broke for Lyr. I would have wanted to protect her as much as Attie did. So i completely understood his need to dominate and be there for her every step of the way.

Their bond did feel a little rushed but in the in-between i am sure our souls dance a little different and the pull is stronger. But I also at times felt like Attie choose her because the other choice wasn't viable.

Over all i really enjoyed the story line and the twist in the end was a good enough addition for me to be excited for book two.

Oh and i finally understand the "goats" partof the title. Slightly disappointed there were no actual goats 😂 but i guess I'll live!!

I truly love this book. It was a wild roller coaster of romance and revenge. Haunting Goats is for those who love a fast-paced, minimal world-building book. This book also contains gore and other triggers, so please check the trigger warnings before reading.

Now, the reason why I gave Haunting Goats a 4-star rating is that, as I said before, this is a very fast-paced book, so there is not a lot of information or background given. For me, I love when I get to know characters better and get a better understanding of how the world works. This book is definitely a book you would want to read if you like quick reads or are looking for a spooky and revenge-filled Halloween.

This new indie author’s debut dark romance truly delivers. Lyric is this dynamic, spunky emotionally vulnerable plus size heroine. Atticus is the MMC who is an obsessed spirit who is possessive daddy dom. There are so many twists, turns and traumas past and present. Hold on tight with this one because you’re going to want to jump right into book two. I was totally immersed in this world. This was a beautifully written debut and I’m so looking forward to more from this author. Thank you for my ARC of this book.

I really liked Lyr's struggles. The abuse and neurodiversity and trust issues were very well portryed and build a repor with the reader. The premise of the book was intriging.

For me the attraction between Lyr and Atticus was too quick and I feel the spice was put in all over just to be spicy. That being said it was an easy read and if that's your vibe you will certainly enjoy it.

I’ve never really thought about how I would handle myself in some of these situations for Lyrics found herself in.

Really had me laying in bed, holding my tablet and staring at ceiling while pondering the meaning of life and the afterlife.

But that ending?? Now I have MORE questions!!
