With a nod and credit to the amazing Agatha Christie and her somewhat stuffy and all knowing Belgian detective, Hercules Poirot, Ruch Fuchs has drawn a somewhat puffed up elven version and inserted her detective into a somewhat bastardized version of a beloved fairy tale. Hi Ho, Hi Ho, there are dwarves aplenty who work in a mine, a Queen with a magic mirror and a very dead princess. Enter the very brilliant Erkule Bwaroo who is tasked to find the murderer of the dwarves’ beloved princess - the beloved part is a story in and of itself. We are invited to watch as this elf detective, with his shiny patent shoes, handsome mustache and admirable wardrobe uses all his grey cells to parse out the sequence of events and characters who, maybe, could, or definitely could not be the most evil of them all.

This was a clever little mystery, and while not profound or exceedingly challenging, it did provide a entertaining time reading, despite the formula or inserting this while removing that, et voila there is a story that worked.

I was a First Read Winner of this book, and I sure enjoyed it. If the name sounds familiar you might be thinking of Hercule Poirot, let's meet his Elf counterpart Erkule Bwaroo and he and his trusted grey cells must solve 2 murders. What a fun and interesting way to put the "fairytale" into a murder mystery. I can't wait to read more books by this Author. It had great characters and every time I was certain I had figured it out, I was wrong. If you love murder mysteries with a magical twist give this book a try. What a fun read.
